[Editorial] Why do the opinions of netizens bear so much weight on the K-Pop industry?

You don't even have to be around in K-Pop for that long before you realize that Korean reporters are a piss poor example of journalism. Every single Korean entertainment article you read, whether translated or not, basically comes directly from the mouths of the companies involved. By now, you're aware of select entertainment companies manipulating the media or even paying up certain outlets to release articles in their favor, but what you don't probably realize is that it's not only those select companies, but everyone.

In my experience working for a Korean media outlet, I've come to realize that the entertainment media is completely controlled by the upper-ups, and reporters/journalists are only that in name because they really function as nothing more than the ctrl and c+z keys on your keyboard.

What essentially goes on is that Korean companies, big or small, basically draft what they want written about their artists down to every fine detail. They send these out as elaborate "press releases" directly to the inboxes of reporters, and what the reporters do is copy and paste the content and release it into our feeds. That's fine, that's how press releases work. Where the issue lies is that these reporters don't check the information they're being fed, nor do they question it. The company can basically make any statement, far-fetched or not, they want and it'll make it to the news simply because Korean journalism is crap.

How do I know this? I've had press releases come into my inbox, and in no more than 30 seconds - I kid you not - I see the article already out in my news feed from a competing outlet without a single edit from the original copy sent to us. There are variations of this laziness: some outlets will leave out paragraphs while others rearrange the paragraphs, but at no point in between do the reporters think to edit or cross check the information they're being handed.

There are two problems with this.

One, this has allowed companies to get away with controlling and manipulating the media to their favor. The companies that you're all probably familiar with have fine tuned this down to an art. What I mean by this is that it's not just the information that's being handed over. Companies will also include three to five titles they specifically want used as well as netizen comments they completely made up themselves to give the image/idea of positivity associated with their artist.

Two, they can get away with whatever BS they want in the actual content and it's going to make it to the press whether it's true and relevant or not. You think those sel-ca articles you see all the time are just fillers from bored reporters with nothing better to do? No. They were specifically sent out by the companies. Before the picture is even uploaded to the artist's Twitter, we'll receive a press release regarding said picture along with the titles and netizen comments they want used. They're essentially creating their own hype for the purpose of keeping their artist in the headlines and relevant.

That's manipulation, is it not?

Their control doesn't end there, though. For a few extra bucks, companies can buy out entire outlets, like what Kim Kwang Soo/Core Contents Media did with Newsen, and just pay them to constantly release positive press about their artists. Another fun example I like to use with anyone that asks is Park Jin Young/JYP Entertainment paying up Asia Economy to release back to back, nonstop onslaughts of editorials slamming Jay Park back when his scandal was at its height. Sidus HQ releases something good about Jay Park? Asia Economy follows up two seconds later with the release of yet another negative editorial to try and steal the spotlight.

Some companies go even further by buying out the entire portal itself. Netizens are already well aware of companies paying Nate to push articles regarding their artists into the top 10 whether netizens vote it up or not. Every once in a while, you see an article that jumps from rank #698 to #2 in the span of a second, and you know right then and there that the company paid its way up.

The company, in turn, can then go and brag that their artists are the top searched or the top ranking - all those key terms that K-Pop fans love to hear - and in turn write up another "press release" saying their artists are top ranking, therefore continuing the cycle...  It doesn't take much to turn a nobody into a top ranking artist provided that your company has the money for it.

So where do netizens come in with all of this?

Because there is no filter in the system at any point in the process, netizens have no choice but to take the role of the bad guy and QUESTION everything. Companies are trying to brainwash everyone about the images they're creating for the artists through all of this manipulation, so do you expect netizens to just sit there, nod their heads, and take it?

Can you see why netizens can't be anything but cynical?

Read an article about a group ranking first on so and so? Question it. Read an article about a solo gaining attention for some stupid nonsensical reason? Question it. Netizens have taken it upon themselves to be the filter and go the extra step that reporters skip by cross checking everything they're being fed and making sure that it's not just hype because 9 times out of 10, it's hype, and a lot of it too.

Remember that whole KARA issue and their Dokdo scandal? Netizens caught on pretty fast when they checked that it was released by Newsen and that reporters at the scene had purposely manipulated the question so that one, KARA wasn't even given an opportunity to answer before they were cut off and rushed along, and two, to create negative press to deflect T-ara's scandal.

I'm not defending netizens. Yeah, there are a lot of extremists that try and push rumors that don't even make sense, but I do think it's important to see where netizens in general are coming from and why they're always so negative or cynical in their view of the articles that international fans generally take at face value.

International fans miss all of the inner investigations that netizens take with each piece because they have no reason not to believe it. Their bias group's comeback was the top ranking search term for the week? Wonderful! (But psst, where is that information coming from?)

Netizen comments play such a huge role in the entertainment industry for this sole reason. They're the ones that do all of the real work - the work that reporters should be doing. The average reader will believe the best reply over the article if contradicting information is presented. It's come to a point where if there are no best replies on a given article, someone is bound to comment, "I clicked on this article to check the best replies but there are none", and that will become the best reply because other people thought the same.

This is the context where terms like "media play" get thrown around because it's just so unfortunately prevalent in the industry that nearly all of the articles you're going to be reading are a form of media play.

Reporters don't just sit around drafting up original content or investigating stuff on their own because they don't have to. Their inboxes are always brimming with articles to copy and paste.

The only outlet that I've seen do any kind of original investigation is Sports Seoul, and they've received a lot of flak from entertainment companies for that. Sports Seoul isn't afraid to fly out reporters to exotic resorts overseas to catch celebrities in the act or get down and find the hardest witnesses to interview to create a case.

Dirty? Yeah... But I don't think the other media outlets are any better for playing it safe and keeping their slates clean.

Compilation of K-Pop's copied stage outfit designs

So with reports of KARA's stage outfits being a copy of another fashion designer coming to light (I didn't even know this was an issue until recently), netizens compiled a picture list of all of the other groups that have stylists copying their stage outfit designs from other designers. While some definitely seem like a direct copy, I'm on the fence about the others.

Compilation of girl group debuts from 1993 to 2012

A netizen (with a lot of effing time on their hands) kindly compiled a list of the total girl group debuts to date. The chart only counts up to August 2nd, so recent girl groups like EvoL are missing, but it's still a clear indication of the influx the industry is pummeled with each year.

The category goes from year, group name, member number, debut date, and company name.

Netizens catch on to Kim Kwang Soo releasing negative press about KARA

All of these nonstop T-ara updates call for an anecdote update, ANYONE AGREE? Anyway, here are the developments over the night.

Netizens have caught on to Newsen, a popular media outlet, being controlled by Kim Kwang Soo for media play. Newsen has released several articles about T-ara in the past that netizens didn't quite understand, like the one about a reporter just "coincidentally happening to meet" Hwayoung in the middle of the street and holding a heartfelt conversation with her.

Recently, Kim Kwang Soo has been using Newsen to release negative articles about KARA to obviously try and deflect the attention on them. Ever since KARA's comeback, Newsen has been the first to release articles on anything negative on the girls. Newsen released an editorial-like report on the Dokdo issue and slammed the girls several times for it.

Last night, KKS/Newsen has also taken to making jabs at anything KARA related they can be find, case in point the article below:

Article: [Photo Newsen] KARA's Goo Hara 'an awkward stage outfit between sexy and embarrassing'

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+331, -41] It's Newsen again~? Kwang Soo~ I heard that T-ara's coming back next week~ Will you stop it already~! Stop trying to bring down KARA with you~!

2. [+301, -43] There's nothing embarrassing about the outfit, what is the article trying to say? Ah.... I just checked the source and it's Newsen. Now I'm understanding it. I have no trust in Newsen anymore because all of the reports they release seem like puppetry by Kim Kwang Soo;;

3. [+288, -34] You can tell it's Newsen just from the article title, that failure of a media outlet.

Article: T-ara officials "Qri wrote the handwritten apology" explains suspicions

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+1,683, -48] They're lightning fast with coming up with explanations for issues like this... And yet they really don't f***ing say a word or explanation about Hwayoung's ostracization.

2. [+1,607, -49] So this is how they're making use of the member with the least presence, Qri ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ You can come out all you want but you're only going to be hated on. You guys have no shame, do you?

3. [+1,308, -71] Send them away!

Article: 'Comeback Announcement' T-ara, typo in their album teaser image?

Source: Sports Seoul via Nate

1. [+375, -10] How could they even think of making a comeback? Kwang Soo is doing just about everything he can to drop them to the ground as low as he can.

2. [+363, -13] Wow, they have no shame... Everyone! You know what to do, right? Boycott!

3. [+351, -15] Tsk tsk, they've learned nothing.

Article: T-ara, September 3rd official comeback "Apology for misunderstandings and discord"

Source: Star News via Nate

1. [+3,087, -52] Is being the most legendary hated group their goal? Look at how determined they are to receive hate

2. [+2,769, -59] Just open a press conference and bow your head in apology and announce your disbandment ㅡㅡ;; You guys have way too many issues outside of bullying and your image has already been so tarnished, there's no turning back for you. There are even rumors that people are going to throw rice cakes at you if you come on out TV. Have you guys ever been hit with rice cakes before?

3. [+2,690, -56] Nobody's going to care about their comeback, they'll only be hated on. Their determination to comeback despite knowing that is quite amazing.

Netizens suspect T-ara's apology letter was written by somebody else

Article: T-ara's official apology letter, swept in controversy over difference in handwriting

Source: X Sports News via Nate

The article basically compares the members' handwritings from Mnet's 'T-ara's Dream Girls' with their latest apology letter and claims that the letter matches none of the girls' handwritings. Netizens are suspicious over whether the letter was written by someone else in place of the girls. (The picture can be viewed in a bigger resolution at the source link, blogger resized it.)

1. [+137, -11] So they put up a letter that no one knows who wrote and now they're like, "See? We apologized. We're going to comeback so don't talk crap anymore." Did they think we'd reply back, "Ah~ okay~ Work hard on your promotions, bbuing bbuing!"

2. [+111, -11] Isn't it obvious it was written by someone else? The handwriting is obvious. From T-ara my butt ㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+102, -9] I knew this would happen ㅋㅋ And of course they'll just claim it's nothing but suspicions. Even their apology has no truth to it, just a way to get sympathy for their comeback, nothing more, nothing less

T-ara releases handwritten announcement of apology

Source: OSEN

T-ara's written announcement:

"We write this letter after much deliberation.
The past month has felt longer than the time it took us to debut and the time we've promoted under all of your love.
First, we would like to honestly apologize for making so many concerned.
We admit that we were immature in not being able to resolve our differences in opinions within the group and letting it out publicly, and we are all reflecting on it together.
We deeply apologize for acting without thought.
If we had understood each other, shared, and acted more maturely, none of this would have happened..
We think that thought every day in misery.
Looking back, we've always overcome any hardships together while chasing the same dream, and it breaks our heart to think that all of those good memories are being seen in a bad light.
We also think that Hwayoung must have gone through a hard time for being misunderstood as being ostracized.
We were all surprised at a result none of us thought or wanted and feel upset that we can no longer be together again.
We hope that Hwayoung no longer has to face any pain again.
We apologize to everyone for concerning everyone with this issue and disappointing those that loved our music.
This hardship was an opportunity of learning for us.
We are supposed to be the strength of many, and have now learned how much responsibility we have on our shoulders, as well as how responsibly we must act.
To our parents, who live for us, and our fans, who will remain by us until the end to love our music...
And to everyone we disappointed, we want to work hard so that our apology will be accepted.
We are genuinely sorry. We ask that you also give your everlasting support and love to Hwayoung, who must have had a harder time than us.
We will always support Hwayoung no matter what.

From all of T-ara."

1. [+712, -12] These girls are over now... I can already tell that they'll come on talk shows and start crying after making any type of excuse they can find.. Then they'll send a video message to Hwayoung. T-ara will promote as if nothing happened and smile on stage... Sigh

2. [+684, -12] They are so determined to receive hate, aren't they?

3. [+656, -14] I should prepare eggs and rice cakes for that dayㅋ

Article: T-ara overcomes hardship for September comeback, 'Music Bank' in discussion

1. [+874, -20] If producers don't want the set covered in rice cakes and water, they should ban T-ara from the show

2. [+875, -24] This might be the first time where an idol gets egged on stage during live broadcast

3. [+718, -53] Just go stuff your faces with rice cakes

Article: [Exclusive] T-ara opens up, "Reflecting on our immature actions..."

1. [+1,033, -45] Just f*** off

2. [+990, -46] ㅋㅋㅋ They must be so desperate now to release an apology now that they're making their comeback

3. [+958, -41] Then go on hiatus and reflect. Don't sit there and try to sell your emotions to win sympathy. Don't think that you can comeback in September and start crying on talk shows. You guys are criminals, don't forget that ㅡㅡ.

Hwayoung tweets about Eunjung and T-ara, 'Five Fingers' slams CCM

Article: [Exclusive] Former T-ara member Hwayoung "I didn't feel good about Eunjung's leave from the drama"

Source: Starin via Nate

1. [+2,434, -167] Looks like Kwang Soo forced her again...

2. [+2,102, -100] It's not only the bullying controversy. T-ara has a lot of unexplained scandals, from Hyomin's greeting case to Jiyeon's webcam strip show and being lazy on stage... There's a bunch and yet they tried to conclude all of them with "determination" comments. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Too bad, the public's already turned their backs on you.

3. [+1,889, -152] It might be true but it's better to stay quiet at times like this.

Article: Former T-ara member Hwayoung confesses her feelings, "Differences in opinion, but distortion of bullying"

Source: E-News via Nate

1. [+771, -41] How is it that an article was released immediately after her tweet? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Try harder, Kwang Soo. T-ara's already over the more you try so just retire them.

2. [+700, -42] Smells like someone's forcing her from behind...

3. [+638, -42] Anyway.. No hope for T-ara anymore. They had good songs sometimes but.. Oh well, nothing that can be done anymore.

The reason netizens believe this is another media play is because the producers of Five Fingers called out Kim Kwang Soo several times telling him to stop the media play and stop lying to the public and that they'll sue him if he continues in this manner. KKS is about as known as JYP in the k-ent industry for manipulating the media and releasing articles to sway public opinion in the direction he wants, even if that means releasing lies. Korea has about zero journalistic integrity.

Article: Producers of 'Five Fingers' release statement: "Eunjung's agency must cease the release of false reports immediately"

Source: Kuki News via Nate

1. [+1,684, -24] CCM really seems like a psycho company.

2. [+1,432, -21] I'm really flabbergasted with CCM. What do they think they can earn by getting back into the drama? The more they drag this on, the more pathetic they'll look to producers

3. [+1,385, -23] These girls are causing a disruption everywhere they go, aren't they... If they had apologized immediately after the scandal broke out and gone on hiatus for reflection, none of this would've happened and they wouldn't be disrupting the work of others. I noticed senior Chae Si Ra trying to console Eunjung at the press conference, and now Eunjung's paying back her kindness by ripping on them in the media. tsk tsk

Source: Herald News via Nate

1. [+935, -14] Mr. Choi Siwon, I really hate Super Junior but I'm starting to like you now

2. [+876, 11] Choi Siwon just earned himself thousands of new fans with his Dokdo Island statement. Not only is his face legendary, but also his heart~~^^

3. [+850, -11] Japanese netizens are trying to hit a boulder with their eggs...

Article: Choi Siwon's Dokdo statement, Japanese fans are pissed.. Threats of egging and Takeshima placards

Source: TV Daily via Nate

1. [+1,526, -18] I've had a negative view on Super Junior, but I think Choi Siwon deserves to be praised. He did a great thing as a public figure.

2. [+1,273, -13] I'm sure that the Japanese netizens are not fans of Super Junior fans, but outcasts of Japanese society

Article: SuJu Choi Siwon, "Dokdo is our land" Japanese fans express anger, 'Let's egg him'

1. [+2,170, -97] Wow, daebak, aren't Super Junior Hallyu stars as well? Can't help but compare them to that other group....

2. [+1,826, -30] Proud.

3. [+1,684, -30] Nothing more to say other than amazing.

KARA back on the chopping block for parking their van on a handicapped parking slot

Article: KARA parks their van in handicapped parking... Did they think it was okay because they're celebrities?

Read the English article here if you haven't.

Source: Newsis via Nate

1. [+1,408, -66] KARA's actions deserve to be criticized. Whether it was the fault of their manager or not, the fact that they parked their van in a handicapped lot is the truth and there's no way you can justify that. How can public figures such as themselves commit illegal actions like this without a care?

2. [+1,251, -59] I do think they thought it was okay just because they were celebrities. Do they think that we don't park there because we don't want to or something?

3. [+1,004, -54] There are picture proof and witnesses, how can fans think to shield this? Do you think it's justifiable that these public figures parked their vans in a public, handicapped lot with that many people around and with their faces seen? You think all they need to do is pay the fine???? Shield what deserves to be shielded, not this.

Article: KARA... a week into their comeback, involved in 4 scandals already

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+445, 33] Let's be honest, they did wrong this time.

2. [+460, -58] I believe we can't let the Dokdo issue and the handicapped parking slide. I'm a girl and also a KARA fan, but they need to learn from Choi Siwon to be able to confidently say that Dokdo belongs to Korea. I think Hallyu stars need to be more proactive in the issue of Dokdo. They were also in the wrong with the handicapped parking... This will only harm their image as a group.

3. [+368, -95] tsk tsk They're becoming an issue in the past and the present. Do you want to end your careers alongside T-ara? tsk

Article: DSP releases official apology, "It's true that KARA's van was parked in a handicapped slot"

Source: Newsen via Nate

(TN: DSP admitted that KARA's van was indeed parked in a handicapped area at a Gongju rest stop for about 15 minutes. They apologized and promised it will never happen again.)

1. [+136, -35] It's good that they apologized right away. Don't do it again.

2. [+132, -38] Good that they apologized, unlike another group who's been lying with determination

3. [+100, -10] Let's be careful about everything next time...

So why all the hate on Yang Hyun Suk?

It's always a surprise for me when I see translated interviews of Yang Hyun Suk and all of the YG stans praising him to be their troll daddy or whatever, because the situation couldn't be more different with their Korean counterparts. I've never really seen any k-fans happy with anything Yang Hyun Suk does or says, and this post is an example of such sentiment:

A longtime fan of Seo Taiji and Boys, Yang Hyun Suk in particular, wrote up a long post on Nate Pann recently begging YG Entertainment fans to refrain from hating on the CEO.

I'm not going to translate the entire post, but she basically talks about how heart breaking it is for her to see VIPs especially talk hateful things about him for the way he runs his business, pointing out that the decisions of the company aren't solely made by him. She emphasizes that the company is made up of a myriad of staff, and that Yang Hyun Suk shouldn't take the sole responsibility for everything that goes wrong with the artists under it.

She includes a photo of Yang Hyun Suk where an anti dug out his eyes as an example of behavior she hopes fans will refrain from.

VIPs retorted to the post.

1. [+182, -38] Big Bang and 2NE1 sang "Lollipop" together but only 2NE1's name was listed in the artist section. G-Dragon was the one that won an award at a Japanese awards ceremony, but 2NE1 took nearly all of the stage performance time. Big Bang was practically a guest at YG Family concerts. VIPs came up with the idea for crown headbands, and YG stole the idea for 2NE1's fan merchandise. When fans asked to have merchandise made for VIPs, they were ignored. The special edition MV for "Don't Go Home" has still not been released. Big Bang was originally supposed to have Big Bang TV but they switched it to 2NE1 TV. YG did not promote "Heartbreaker"; restricted GD's performances on TV stages and made him do off side events. Fans were the one that reported albums that did not state Big Bang to be the correct artists for YG to fix, and yet there are still albums that have mistakes because YG failed to answer. VIPs were the ones that told YG about "Haru Haru" being plagiarized. YG doesn't let Big Bang go on variety shows in Korea, but they're all over Japanese TV. YG also said Big Bang would not be performing "Monster" in Korea, and yet they performed it live in Japan. Fans wouldn't have even been pissed if they just released it as a Japanese song instead. They still haven't changed the label for "This Love". They changed the official lightstick for Big Bang without consent or informing the fans. Big Bang's merchandise are unnecessarily expensive. Big Bang performed "Alive" in Korea three times, while they performed it in five cities in Japan and three in China. The only promotion GD got for his latest solo album was a countdown timer. All of the bus and subway advertisements are being run by his fans. GD had to promote everything himself through his own Twitter. There's more that I'm not writing because I can't think of it off the top of my head, but you have to admit that Yang Hyun Suk is lacking in his management with the boys even if he has other staff to do his work for him... Yes, I do admit the picture with his eyes cut out was going too far.

2. [+140, -21] I'm speaking as a full time VIP. There isn't a CEO in the world that doesn't get criticized for his decisions. Not only Yang Hyun Suk, but every CEO receives hate at some point or another. I'm grateful for Yang Hyun Suk because he's the one that raised Big Bang and he's the one that they respect. I admit that I'm thankful for him. HOWEVER, Yang Hyun Suk has not only done right. As much as his fans are upset with us, we've been upset with him too many times to count. It's just that our way of expressing it could be deemed as a bit severe. Yes, I admit this is our fault. His decisions might be born out of his desire for profit, but Big Bang is precious to us, just like Yang Hyun Suk is precious to you. I think Yang Hyun Suk needs to heed our advice and make some changes while we work to restrict our level of hate for him. I would also like to apologize for the disrespectful actions of other VIPs. I'm sorry.

3. [+115, -18] To all of the people hating on the CEO, put yourself in the OP's shoes. Let's say Big Bang sets up their own company, but the company's a bit slow in processing work. The fans of the company's artists then start hating on Big Bang... Don't you think that would piss you off as their fan? It's the same concept... Big Bang fans would then reason that it's not Big Bang making all of the company's decisions. This is exactly what's going on with the OP, so please put yourself in her shoes before just blindly hating on the CEO.

Things are still looking down for T-ara's Eunjung

KARA slammed for their silence on 'Dokdo Island' issue + outfit controversy

I know political issues have no place in K-Pop, but it's important to Korea and to Korean netizens, so please keep that in mind before placing your own cultural views on another country's culture and calling them out for it. Dokdo Island is an especially sensitive issue.

Article: KARA "Dokdo is our land" was it that hard to say?

Source: Newsen via Nate

TN: The article basically bashes KARA for not being able to answer a reporter who had asked, "If you receive a question regarding Dokdo Island in Japan, how will you respond?" at their comeback showcase. The girls remaining silent and failing to say that "It's definitely Korea's land" enraged netizens.

1. [+1,673, -234] I can understand somewhat because you're promoting in Japan but don't forget that you're Korean singers. I want you to say it confidently the next time you're asked this.

2. [+1,447, -311] Do you like the Japanese that much? Are you that crazed for money? What was so difficult for you to say that our land is our land? It's because our public figures give unclear responses on stuff like this that the Japanese are running around claiming it to be theirs. WAKE UP.

3. [+1,300, -200] It's definitely our land so why can't you say it? Say it loud and clear, because the more unclear you are on this, the more they start to think it's theirs. Dokdo Island. Is. Our. Land!

The rest are a compilation of articles on their outfit controversy as per request by a reader.

2. [+334, -168] Love it~~~~

Article: Eunjung withdraws from 'Five Fingers', how far is going too far?
Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+6,804, -245] Going too far is ostracizing someone in your own group for two years and laughing about it on a public platform like Twitter. The victim was kicked from the group, and yet they are still on TV shooting dramas. Isn't that going too far?

1. Kevin had a really hard time remembering what 'yubu chobap' was (seasoned rice wrapped in tofu pouches). When their manager asked them what they wanted to have for lunch, Kevin accidentally said, "Yudu chobap." (yubu = tofu, yudu = nipple)

2. When the coordinators are too busy, Kwanghee will sometimes do his own make up for his broadcast schedules.

3. Fans often spot Siwan at girl clothing shops.

4. Kwanghee wears whatever underwear he finds in the dorm so he gets in trouble often with Junyoung and Kevin.

5. At a fan meeting, someone asked, "What does ZE:A's mean to Junyoung?" and without hesitation, Junyoung shouted out, "My wives, my wives! I love you all!"

1. A fan told Sunye that she had waited for her in front of the JYP building for six hours. Sunye replied back, "I waited 19 years to be able to meet all of you."

2. A fan from Sokcho was waiting outside the girls' dorm one winter. Sunye came out and gave her an autograph and stuck something in her hands and left. It was a $30 hand warmer.

3. Yubin found a bunch of fans waiting outside because they didn't have enough money left to go home so she started digging through her pockets only to find a couple cents in change. She laughed really awkwardly and then went to find her manager to borrow money to send them all home.

4. When Wonder Girls got into their car accident, Sunye was said to have pulled Sunmi, who was sleeping in the middle of the van, towards her so that she'd take most of the damage. She has a scar on her knee because of it, which is a complex for her now. Yubin covered Sohee from all of the glass debris with a towel. After Sunye checked everyone was okay outside of the car, she prayed and thanked everyone for being safe. In a later interview, she said she was upset that she couldn't think of the taxi driver who had passed away in the accident because she was too preoccupied with worrying about the members.

5. Sunmi cried for an hour to her hair stylist after she saw the hair concept for the group's first album jacket concept.

6. A BMW honked at Sunye when she was walking into her dorm so Sunye turned around and shouted, "You think you're everything just because you drive a BMW?!"

7. A fan approached Sunye for an autograph when she had her hands full with some luggage and her cellphone. The fan offered to hold one of them for her while she signs the autograph, so Sunye gave her the cellphone instead of her luggage because she didn't want her to carry something heavy.

8. Sung Shi Kyung once mentioned that when he visited Wonder Girls' waiting room, they were all working on their homework.

9. When rumors of Sohee being an outcast in the group started spreading, everyone asked Sunye to close her Cyworld mini-homepage. Sunye refused, saying that if she did, she'd only be acknowledging the rumors. A couple days later, fans started noticing that the hateful replies were disappearing one by one. Sunye was actually reading all of them and deleting them herself.

10. When Sohee injured her knee and was hospitalized, Ye Eun stayed all night at the hospital with her and left early in the morning to pray for her at her church.

1. A fan caught Bom with a group of other people waiting to cross the street. She approached her for an autograph right when the signal turned to walk. Everyone in Bom's party was crossing the street and they were calling out to her angrily telling her to hurry up and cross, but Bom stayed behind and finished her autograph for the fan. She waited for the next light to cross.

2. When CL was coming home from her vacation in France, fans spotted Dara waiting at the airport with a piece of paper that had 'Poodoong' written on it, which is her nickname for CL because her hands are chubby. CL started laughing the minute she saw it.

3. A fan asked CL to remember her and told her her name and everything. The next time she went to see her, she was wearing a hat. When she asked if she knew who she was, CL crouched to see her face under her hat and rememered her name.

4. At an encore stage at a YG family concert, CL picked up a slogun a fan had thrown onto the stage floor. It was Se7en's so she looked around trying to find him but she couldn't so she put it right back where she found it.

5. Another fan spotted CL at a popular hangout and called her out saying she had a present for her. She gave her a placard that had Big Bang written on it and CL said, "This isn't mine!" and gave it back to her.

6. Seungri and Minzy went to the Han river to go for a jog but Seungri ended up leaving Minzy there and came home by himself ㅋㅋㅋ

7. A truck tried to drive by the broadcast hall one day and Minzy came running out shouting "Dad!!!!" in front of all of her fans. Fans were touched to see that she wasn't embarrassed at her age and with so many people around her.

8. At a YG concert, Bom picked up a placard that had her name and two pictures of her on it. She ran around and found Dara and started showing it off to her. Dara looked like she was really jealous until Bom walked around and found another placard that had Dara's pictures and name on it. She then ran around again trying to find Dara to give it to her ㅋㅋ

9. It always rains on the day of 2NE1's first public broadcast comeback so fans that attend the music shows get really frustrated but joke around saying that it's because 2NE1's always busting holes through the roof with their all kills.

10. Dara and Minzy gifted all their fans waiting for them at the airport with chocolate and pastries.

11. Managers are really strict with fans at airports and don't allow for any autographs for safety reasons. Minzy will wait until she gets in the van and then ask her managers for paper so she can hand out autographs to everyone who came.

12. Dara was chatting with people in the official fancafe. When it came time for her to leave, she said, "Good night! ^.^ Bbyong~ zoom~!" but stayed in the chat for a few minutes without leaving. Then she asked, "Wait, how do I leave this?" Fans told her to just press the X at the top ㅋㅋㅋㅋ.

13. Back when the girls had Cyworlds, Bom's most listened to artist was B2ST, Dara's MBLAQ, and Minzy's Yiruma.

[Rumor Mill] INFINITE and SECRET are dating?

With the confirmation of Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung's relationship last night, netizens are taking another look at the organization that spread rumors saying they were dating several months ago and trying to evaluate the truth behind some of their other rumors as well.

These are just rumors spread by the same people that predicted LBH and LMJ's relationship, so take them as what you will. When news of their relationship first broke out, nearly 90% of the best replies were talking about how they now believe in the 'Stock Market Exclusives', a gossip source for rumors on everything from the entertainment industry to the government.

Some say that it's controlled by reporters or government officials wanting to create headlines for their own benefits (hiding scandals, creating scandals, diverting attention, etc), but I don't know much more than that. Others claim it's spread by word of mouth from staff of the industry.

I do see their rumors come up in the news often but they use too much anonymity to make much use of it.

These rumors are CURRENT and mainly focused on idols. I will not go back for the old ones unless confirmed recently.

1. Famous actor 'A', who's notorious for not letting any co-star actress out of his grips, has been rumored to have messed with 'B'. Because of their vast age difference, even industry officials were initially suspicious when they heard about it, but 'A' did indeed manage to win over 'B'. As it turned out, 'B' was actually quite the player herself and they spent an "enjoyable night" together without any restrictions.

(a - Song Kang Ho, b - Shin Se Kyung)

2. The arrogance of actress 'I' is said to be able to reach the sky. She was recently chosen as a drama lead and has raised issues with the drama's title, reasoning that the drama is about her character's growth so it should include her character's name. She came up with 20 or so titles herself and texting them to all of the staff, which have all been promptly ignored. Industry officials feel that she should be grateful for even being considered an actress worthy of a leading role.

(i - Goo Hye Sun)

3. Girl group 'A' member 'B' and boy group 'C' member 'D' are currently dating.

The way they met is actually quite amusing, as they were intoduced to each other after the break up of member 'E' from group 'A' and member 'F' from group 'C'. E's relationship with F was said to have been a rollercoaster due to F's tendency to cheat, which was the cause for their break up. E was said to have spent many nights crying over the loss.

On the contrary, F started spreading rumors among idols about his relationship with E. Although E tried to get back at him, it never happened.

'B' and 'D' actually had no idea about the state of their relationship so when they started dating, they tried to include F and E in their dates.

(a - SECRET, c - INFINITE, Hyosung, Sunhwa, L, Sungjong - no one knows which one is b, e, f, d)

4. Top star 'A' is said to be enjoying scandalous activities since his rise to fame. After his concerts, he'll throw lavish after parties with his staff. After he gets drunk, he'll wave around a wad of cash and tell everyone that the person that strips the most will earn the money. The party then turns into a strip bar as everyone strips for the prize. Although A is loved for his innocent and handsome image, he's quite the player in the backroom.

(a - Jang Geun Suk)

5. Staff are feeling the stress due to the poor acting skills of actor 'E'. Because of his relationship to another famous celebrity 'E', F is on the smallscreen despite his poor acting skills. Not only that, but the industry also feels that he's not handsome enough to be on screen, let alone earn the roles he has played so far, so there is a lot of discord with his co-stars.

A manager of E's co-star mentioned, "At the film set, nobody treats E like an actor. Who would like someone who earned his role for being brothers with another celebrity and drops the quality of the drama with his poor acting?" Cue sighs of stress.

(e - Park Yoo Hwan, celebrity family - Park Yoochun)

Stars I left out: Yoo Se Yoon, Jang Shin Young and Kang Ji Sub, Ha Ji Won. The best replies are all just expressing shock over INFINITE and SECRET, as well as some claiming that there wouldn't be smoke without fire.

Dangerous 'T-ara Game' takes on popularity among elementary school students

This was the #1 fear for netizens since day one, and it's finally arose. T-ara's controversy has become a societal one, as it's been revealed that a new game called the 'T-ara Game' has been earning popularity among elementary school students, and it's anything but child's play.

Full article from the Chosun below.

Twenty-four year old college student 'A' was recently surprised when checking the smartphone of her nine year old niece.

While reading her niece's KakaoTalk messages, she found several correspondances with threats of ostracization and bullying, with comments like, "You're the outcast now so you have to do everything we say", "Hey, are you crazy? Reply right now if you don't want to die", and "You have to carry my bag tomorrow".

Shocked, 'A' immediately asked her niece what she was doing. The niece replied back, "We're playing the 'T-ara Game'. *** is the outcast right now."

When asked why she was playing such a game, the niece replied simply that it was for fun. 'A' immediately began lecturing the child on how hurt the other person must feel, but the niece only answered, "But if I don't do this, I'm going to be the outcast."

The game has taken widespread popularity among elementary school students. Children will pick one of their friends to be the designated outcast who must then be tortured by their friends through various means like hateful messages on KakaoTalk. Anyone that doesn't comply with the game is then chosen as the outcast.

MBC directs camera crew to film SISTAR's performance with "emphasis on their hips and butt"

So a netizen recently took a picture of the cue sheet explaining the line-ups for the '2012 DMZ Peace Concert' and made an interesting observation. The sheet is basically a line-up of the artists in performing order and special notes for the camera crew.

The yellow box points out SISTAR's "Loving U" performance with special notes asking the camera crew to film with "emphasis on the hips and butt".

I kid you not.

The concert was run by MBC, so that says a lot about the way they run things over there, and I'm now curious about what the other cue sheets look like for SISTAR, as well as other girl groups...

Netizens weren't all too surprised.

[+38] Their entire choreography consists of rotating their hips and shaking their butts, so what did they expect?

[+31] It's not just the broadcast company's fault. They're standing there asking to be filmed like that.

[+27] ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Ah, the broadcast industry is dirty indeed.

Not that anyone's complaining, of course.
