So why all the hate on Yang Hyun Suk?

It's always a surprise for me when I see translated interviews of Yang Hyun Suk and all of the YG stans praising him to be their troll daddy or whatever, because the situation couldn't be more different with their Korean counterparts. I've never really seen any k-fans happy with anything Yang Hyun Suk does or says, and this post is an example of such sentiment:

A longtime fan of Seo Taiji and Boys, Yang Hyun Suk in particular, wrote up a long post on Nate Pann recently begging YG Entertainment fans to refrain from hating on the CEO.

I'm not going to translate the entire post, but she basically talks about how heart breaking it is for her to see VIPs especially talk hateful things about him for the way he runs his business, pointing out that the decisions of the company aren't solely made by him. She emphasizes that the company is made up of a myriad of staff, and that Yang Hyun Suk shouldn't take the sole responsibility for everything that goes wrong with the artists under it.

She includes a photo of Yang Hyun Suk where an anti dug out his eyes as an example of behavior she hopes fans will refrain from.

VIPs retorted to the post.

1. [+182, -38] Big Bang and 2NE1 sang "Lollipop" together but only 2NE1's name was listed in the artist section. G-Dragon was the one that won an award at a Japanese awards ceremony, but 2NE1 took nearly all of the stage performance time. Big Bang was practically a guest at YG Family concerts. VIPs came up with the idea for crown headbands, and YG stole the idea for 2NE1's fan merchandise. When fans asked to have merchandise made for VIPs, they were ignored. The special edition MV for "Don't Go Home" has still not been released. Big Bang was originally supposed to have Big Bang TV but they switched it to 2NE1 TV. YG did not promote "Heartbreaker"; restricted GD's performances on TV stages and made him do off side events. Fans were the one that reported albums that did not state Big Bang to be the correct artists for YG to fix, and yet there are still albums that have mistakes because YG failed to answer. VIPs were the ones that told YG about "Haru Haru" being plagiarized. YG doesn't let Big Bang go on variety shows in Korea, but they're all over Japanese TV. YG also said Big Bang would not be performing "Monster" in Korea, and yet they performed it live in Japan. Fans wouldn't have even been pissed if they just released it as a Japanese song instead. They still haven't changed the label for "This Love". They changed the official lightstick for Big Bang without consent or informing the fans. Big Bang's merchandise are unnecessarily expensive. Big Bang performed "Alive" in Korea three times, while they performed it in five cities in Japan and three in China. The only promotion GD got for his latest solo album was a countdown timer. All of the bus and subway advertisements are being run by his fans. GD had to promote everything himself through his own Twitter. There's more that I'm not writing because I can't think of it off the top of my head, but you have to admit that Yang Hyun Suk is lacking in his management with the boys even if he has other staff to do his work for him... Yes, I do admit the picture with his eyes cut out was going too far.

2. [+140, -21] I'm speaking as a full time VIP. There isn't a CEO in the world that doesn't get criticized for his decisions. Not only Yang Hyun Suk, but every CEO receives hate at some point or another. I'm grateful for Yang Hyun Suk because he's the one that raised Big Bang and he's the one that they respect. I admit that I'm thankful for him. HOWEVER, Yang Hyun Suk has not only done right. As much as his fans are upset with us, we've been upset with him too many times to count. It's just that our way of expressing it could be deemed as a bit severe. Yes, I admit this is our fault. His decisions might be born out of his desire for profit, but Big Bang is precious to us, just like Yang Hyun Suk is precious to you. I think Yang Hyun Suk needs to heed our advice and make some changes while we work to restrict our level of hate for him. I would also like to apologize for the disrespectful actions of other VIPs. I'm sorry.

3. [+115, -18] To all of the people hating on the CEO, put yourself in the OP's shoes. Let's say Big Bang sets up their own company, but the company's a bit slow in processing work. The fans of the company's artists then start hating on Big Bang... Don't you think that would piss you off as their fan? It's the same concept... Big Bang fans would then reason that it's not Big Bang making all of the company's decisions. This is exactly what's going on with the OP, so please put yourself in her shoes before just blindly hating on the CEO.

  1. LOL not to mention that one time when Yang Hyun Suk indirectly "dissed" every K-Pop artist out there through his statement: To make good quality songs, singers should sing their song once a week.

Yeah that explains the YG one-week rule thingy.

And you probably won't find the statement anywhere on English news sites but just ask maybe a handful of Korean fans to confirm it for you.

  2. @ Anonymous Lol.. how does that make any sense? A quality song is a quality song regardless of how many times you sing it?

  4. oh. i didnt know this about k-VIPs. but some i-fans do tend to think everything yg shits out is gold.
and yeah...yg stuff are seriously overpriced. considering that the fans who will most consume are teenagers and young adults who just started on w their lives.

  5. For Alive album, the budget was really huge.I mean,FB,Bad Boy,Blue,Monster + YG On Air shows...unlike other kpop artists they don't film their MVs just in colorful rooms. Those things demands really huge money.Everytime on tumblr,I read how much their sunglasses, hats, shoes expensive.YG invested cuz he trusted them while they were in an uncertain condition,Knetizens were discussing it was too early for their comeback.Remember his words on Kpop star "BIGBANG did it,they made it" those words made me tearful. For the 2ne1 things, they had talent, they were a promising group.Maybe that was the best choise to promate them with BIGBANG at first.I always hear their own words "YG FAMILY,YG IS FOREVER RIGHT..."For me YG is the best CEO in KPOP.After seeing many issues on kpop and how their CEO makes the situation worse.I can say proudly YG is the best with his mistakes. He is a good father to his sons and daughters :)

  6. And yet....YG singers are the richest in Korea. All other KPop companies singers have to 'save' money even to buy their parent's shops and they still live in dorms =___=

  7. Never liked him nor his "policies"

  8. @Echo, YG singers are not the richest in Korea. Taeyang and Daesung and Suengri/GD still live in their dorms, and so does 2NE1. GD is rich because of royalties, but not all of the other members. I don't know where you got the idea they are the richest from, but they're not.

  11. Isn't it sad that the best music in the world also has the worst fans in the world. Korean netizens are like a spoiled teenage daughter who gets a new sports car from her daddy and then wants to return it because the door handles aren't the right colour.

  12. Yes YG sucks, he doesn't invest enough on 2NE1 and invests more on Big Bang and yet K-VIPs are complaining -_- and international VIPs are no better than the Koreans. Big Bang's music is not even that good, 2NE1 have better songs.

  13. LOL VIPs are under the delusions that Big Bang make the best Korean music yet BB have some songs that really suck.
they think BB are the richest and are the best, they have too much ego, just like BB.
they should let 2NE1 have some fame, so what if they had a reality show instead of BB, BB get things that 2NE1 don't get, just compare their promotion to 2NE1's

  15. Oh wow, Netizens being really stupid and making dumb comments on a situation and judging people they don't know without any actual proper understanding of the issue. Wow, that's something new for k-pop ahem cough.

  16. The netizen in the first comment is a moron.

    1. "Don't Go Home" was not released as an MV because there were complaints about the lyrics of it being sexual or some shit. That's why there are only two(?) performances of it on music programs.

    2. GD's promotions for "Heartbreaker" were limited because of THE PLAGIARISM SCANDAL. Have they forgotten about that already?

    3. They should be jumping for fucking joy that Big Bang is so active in Japan because if they didn't have that money coming in, YGE would be tanking and there would be no concerts (because you need LOTS OF MONEY to even hold a concert in the first place), no new albums, shitty music videos, etc. etc. etc.

Most of the time, netizens are just being petty. But this is taking it to a whole other level. They're being arrogant about Big Bang being Korean idols and they're so fucking stuck in their little mindset of "Hallyu pride" that they don't realize that it's THAT very attitude that is causing Japan to literally reject everything Hallyu related.

So when the Korean economy gets even WORSE because they can't shut their fucking mouths and let idols promote in Japan in peace, they have only themselves to blame.

  18. K-Vips are so dumb and think so high of themselves. Bigbang has the biggest Comeback than anyone else in the Kpop world this year. Se7en, 2NE1 got nothing compared to them. 2NE1's promo was so cheap and painful, Bjs got pictures and audio, is it the right way to promote the 2nd girl group? yet k-Bjs never complained nor lucky seen.
Without YG, BB could be done with all of their scandals last year.

  20. YGE is like the best entertainment company in Korea. YG takes care of his artist really well I've read once that YG gives 60% of the money earned to the artist and only 40% goes to the company. While SM gives 40% to the artists and 60% goes to them. and JYP goes 50-50. Like come on people running a company is not that easy YG has a lot of people to talk to he's not the only one that decides and besides most of the things in the Japan are partly handled by YGEX if I'm right?. VIPs should be happy and proud that BIGBANG went to a world tour because damn that takes a lot of effort. They should be proud that BIGBANG sold out on most of their stops. Also, 2ne1 embarked on their solo world tour as well being an idol group that's been in the business for 3 years that's pretty cool. Let's not just look on the negative side but think about the things YG had done for BIGBANG and 2ne1. Okay I kinda talked too much.. haha..
