Article: 'City Conquest' producers argue "Rejected from KBS from government intervention" vs KBS "Unfounded rumors"
Source: Star News via Naver
Kim Hyun Joong's drama 'City Conquest' was originally scheduled for a time slot with KBS but was recently rejected for what the production company is claiming "government intervention". In a press release, they detail all of the demands KBS made, including switching out script writers, editing the scripts, switching out parts of the cast, etc, which they all complied with out of pressure.
In the end, KBS decided to drop the drama all together after a certain switch of power in the higher ups. "KBS officials told us that the reason they could not air the drama was because despite its superior content and business potential, the depiction of violence was not the right fit for a time when the government is making a new start."
KBS came out with their own statement saying that their claims are unfounded. "The drama features too much violence and revenge themes and makes a mockery out of the police. We thus felt that it was inappropriate for broadcast."

1. [+122, -23] Lately, I'm starting to think SBS is the only normal channel....
2. [+109, -12] If their reason is because of violence, they need to take Iris off air too then.
3. [+91, -11] I agree, they should cut production on Iris if they're really worried about all this violence... The drama's just full of gun fights.
4. [+83, -13] This is like a real life version of King of Dramas. The drama industry is so corrupted.
5. [+80, -13] Seems like the King of Dramas wasn't exaggerating...
6. [+70, -12] They should've gone to SBS... They have a lot of comics-turned-dramas like Daemul and stuff.
7. [+70, -12] Just turn everything into cable. MBC and KBS are too busy standing around on their knees for the government like little puppets.
8. [+61, -8] This is actually worse than what happened in the King of Dramas
9. [+38, -10] What a comedy... Since when did the government care about making sure all of the dramas were positive whenever someone new was elected.
10. [+29, -8] They should just give the drama up and let the actors go their separate ways... They're wasting their time holding them down for this long... They can't even do anything else while they're waiting.

Awhh.. This was a drama I wanted to watch. I'm a big fan of Jung Yumi and KHY is just delicious<3
ReplyDeletelol my first thought while I was reading this was, "this is just like King of Dramas."
ReplyDeleteGotta love all the KoD references, lol!
ReplyDeletei also call this BS, KBS didnt wanted to air the drama at first cause it was toooo expensive, then henecians and Triple S did a Trendic topic session on twitter and sended some pettions and i dont know what else so KBS decided to air it itr was meant to air once school 2013 was over but then suddenly KBS came with the "we decided not to air it because of the content issues" i was like WTF? is not like its a porn drama or somethign now they say its cause of the violence revenga and so lol then why City hunter, poseidon, Iris Iris2 athena and more dramas get aired?
ReplyDeleteDont care anymore this drama will air maybe in japan and other countries or maybe but i feel sooo bad not just for KHJ but also for all the cats members and crew they all worked sooo much for this
It is so funny about the reasons given by the KBS for not airing the drama.....what the hell they are talking about....IRIS 2 is coming & I think this is more violated than CC....
ReplyDeleteWhat would Anthony do?
ReplyDeleteI feel bad about all the actors tied down by this corrupt crap.
What the hell...!!!!!!bring my Baek Mir back..!!!!!!!!arghhhhhh...!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, damn. I was actually looking forward to this one.
ReplyDeleteKBS should have just said they don't want a drama with will have bad ratings, that is much more believable than revenge/violence excuse.....
ReplyDeleteLame excuses!!! Violence = Gaksital, Iris1&2, School2013. Revenge = Man from Equator, Sirius... Police mockery = Sirius and other dramas, i guess... :p
ReplyDeleteso its not going to air? T__T
ReplyDeleteThis does seem weird, but I remember reading an article saying that "City Conquest" was rejected by all three major public stations, it seems weird that not even a cable channel is willing to pick this up.
ReplyDeleteArgh! its so sad as well as infuriating how these k channels have so much dirty politics on it. Well so far seeing how manipulative korean big companies can be just lost my taste for it. It just happens everywhere and mostly on entertainment industry. And seeing the BS happening to KHJ just makes me wanna burn them. We were so looking forward to it and then what we got is this???!!!! Well air it in japan and china and globally, we love a lot of nudity , violence , crime and corruption themes! since reality has a lot of it anyway. Well maybe just maybe , they hate it for describing exactly what is going on in their industry. KHJ dont worry we will support you all the way !!!
ReplyDeleteIt's probably not all that great and has an unproven lead who can't really act. Drama politics are shady, but this not airing doesn't really shock me.
ReplyDeletehere is previous article of three major station kbs, mbc, sbs rejecting it http://www.kdramastars.com/articles/6804/20121214/kim-hyun-joongs-drama-city-conquest-rejected.htm ......but didn't know kbs didn't air it becoz of goverment intervation.....dirty politics.......
ReplyDeletesrsly
ReplyDelete" This is like a real life version of King of Dramas"
Wtf... I was looking forward to this drama.
ReplyDeletesaying openly that is because of government that they won't air it.... isn't it like putting government in a bad light anyway?
ReplyDeleteso they allow dramas/films with suicides, gangsters, rape, domestic violence etc, but now it's too violent ?
ReplyDeletethey try to hide the real korean society but they are actually showing it by their actions...
hmm why sound so familiar? lol
ReplyDeletemaybe its antagonist was plotted after some real life k political figure? so the station got pressured to drop it. the same thing just happened with a thai drama recently.
Just try putting it on cable, please.
ReplyDeleteIt's not weird it's Kim Hyun Joong that's why.....all networks are looking for that BANG to begin the year with and KHJ and BANG (in this premises) don't go in the same sentence......
ReplyDeleteJung Yumi! I love her!
ReplyDeletekhj right? they can just sell it as dvd, or air it in overseas. you know, khj.
ReplyDeletethe moment when a few articles ago: "Actor Yoo Oh Sung feels the government is using the entertainment industry"
ReplyDeleteLOL ok i know its a different thing but watevaaa
Maybe it was Kim Hyun Joong's awful acting...
