Article talking about how before, it was rare to have siblings in the industry so it was a great way for siblings to get their name out there quick and easy when they first debuted (Krystal, Thunder).. but now, there are so many siblings that it doesn't really impact your debut since the novelty factor has worn off.

3. [+210, -4] Isn't it obvious that it wouldn't matter if your celebrity sibling is a nobody or has a bunch of antis like T-ara? They have to be popular somewhat to get your name on the radar with netizens.
4. [+24, -0] You have to have an A class sibling like Choi Jin Shil, Choi Jin Young or Um Jung Hwa and Um Tae Woong to use their name to promote your own, otherwise it's useless..

ReplyDeleteYes and no, I suppose. People will undoubtedly compare their rap skills together and while both are much better than average, I think the general consensus is that Zico's better. As the older sibling, Taewoon will more often times than not be on the shorter end of the stick in those comparisons.

ReplyDeletelol Not going to comment about Stardom obviously but yeah, it sucks that Taewoon had to take a backseat and watch his brother shine. But that's no one else's fault but CCM's. KKS gave up WAY too early after that Kangho scandal came out and with Co-Ed School being MIA for over two years, very few people recognize them or care about their whereabouts. Obviously CCM is still trying to salvage whatever's left of Co-Ed School but he took SO long to finally get them out there. Now it's like Taewoon's starting over. I hope he does well though!

I feel bad for Wooram. She couldn't have debuted at a worse time. She even filmed some things before the controversy that when aired later made them both look bad. She is really gifted in songwriting and good at singing/dancing. I hope more people are able to look past the fact that Boram is her sister. You can't pick your family.

ReplyDeleteTaewoon and Co-ed weren't doing anything at the time Zico debuted so Taewoon's "popularity" was pretty much nil. Zico was able to become popular because of his skills and I actually would be surprised if Taewoon got more attention because of it.

I'm actually quite surprised at how badly they failed, considering their whole family are basically celebrities, and it's not even like their parents are entertainers who people have no idea who they are. In terms of SK citizens' ability to recognise someone by their faces as a judge of how well-known they are, their mother is probably more identifiable than the both of them combined together.

ReplyDeleteOn the other hand with Taewoon and Zico. Co-Ed was not popular at all. Block B debuted in 2011 and with their recent successes I think Taewoon is more known as Zico's brother than the other way around despite debuting before him.
Boram and Wooram. Are just unlcuky. D-Unit had the pleasure of debuting right after T-ara's mega scandal which totally brought them from Korea's number 2 girl group to Korea most hated girl group. It was unfortunate that D-Unit had to be affiliated with T-ara bought some negative attention to them.
And than Joo and Illhoon. The problem with that is Joo has been off the radar since January 2011 she does have her little stints at the JYP Nation Concerts but thats really. I was really shocked that they were siblings I just found like what 3 days ago. I actually watched all of BToB Diary and Btob B+ Diary as well and he never mentioned once. Illhoon is more known for his Kiyomi Player more than anything.
Celebrity Siblings are still quite an asset if the timing is right and how popular celebrity sibling is, who they are and what is their image. Lets say Won Bin had a sister who decided to become a singer debuted I assure that would cause not only a media frenzy but a netizen frenzy as well. See Celebrity Siblings still has its perks.
