Article: Sunhwa is SECRET's first actress... cast in 'Advertising Genius Lee Tae Baek'
Source: Newsen via Nate
1. [+308, -17] Stop using idols in dramas, there has got to be a lot of rookie actors to use ㅡㅡ
2. [+221, -18] Another idol..... Sigh
3. [+212, -92] I find it hard to like Sunhwa... I just do...
4. [+32, -6] Sunhwa has too much of a strong variety image. They need to stop using idols in dramas. Please use more professional actors...
5. [+29, -6] Isn't it obvious that idols will get hated on when they're cast in acting roles? They should at least get their acting up to par with the rest of the cast... What do they expect when they suck harder than the children's cast?
6. [+21, -1] After watching a drama with an idol in it, I think I know why idols shouldn't be used in dramas. Their pronunciation and facial expressions are lacking compared to a real actor and their fangirls try to control too much of the drama while running around hating on the other cast members... Then they make sure they sweep up all of the awards at year-end ceremonies over real actors. It's a combination nobody wants to deal with.

Good luck Sunhwa! ♥
ReplyDeletehips don't lie <3_<3
ReplyDeleteWow I guessed the best replies as soon as I saw the title of the article on twitter lol.
ReplyDeleteCan they just give them a chance atleast once? If the drama don't make it then that's the time when these idols should be criticized. My bias will be in a drama as well but it's not as hyped as this one. Fighting Sunhwa.

lol jyj fans
Agree with the 6th comment.
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time. Idols have always been about more than just singing. They are always going to have some presence in the drama field.
I heard she's been wanting to act for a long time and have been persistently trying her hardest to do so. Why not give her a chance? She has potential from what I've seen of her skits in variety shows. It's not like this is an idol drama, it seems a bit more mature and low key and she has a minor supporting role. So dramatic, these people.
ReplyDelete"1. [+308, -17] Stop using idols in dramas, there has got to be a lot of rookie actors to use ㅡㅡ"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are, but this netizen knows Sunhwa's name and not theirs. That's the whole issue. Rookie actors don't have name recognition and so can't draw people to the drama. PDs figure it's worth it to cast less talented but more famous people to gain more press and more potential viewers.
netizens should know that idols are more than just singing on stage, theyre becoming successful other than singing eg. eunjung, yonghwa uee etc. i bet they havent seen her cameo acting appearances.
ReplyDeleteWell considering the decency of Reply 1997, I do think idols should be given a chance. But then of course, when you have delusional fangirls *coughjcoughycoughjcoughfanscough* it really doesn't help the reputation of idols in general.
ReplyDeletewhat hips?
ReplyDeleteehh.... i'm really dubious how she is going to be at acting. best of luck tho
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with #3

^^ This is what I don't understand. How are idols going to get their acting up par with the rest of the cast when netizens does not want to give them the chance to. There is a saying, "practice makes perfect." Yes, idols should not be given lead roles. They should take lots of supporting roles and gain acting experiences. But netizens will not even allowed that to happen because has long as you are an idol that means you suck. Actresses like Yoon Eun Hye and Eugene who used to be idols became good actresses because they were given a chance.
Thanks to netizen buzz, now all your readers leave hate comments on jyj and their fans. Its funny how as soon as NB wrote that article undermining jyjs positive comments all these random people come out leaving shade behind...that weren't here before that.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is that majority of idols suck at acting their are the gems but most of them suck. And I rather see a rookie actor than can actually act than see an idol who may or may not be good.
ReplyDeleteLook at Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woobin seriously kicking some major butt in School 2013 now imagine if idol actors were casted in their roles I cringe at that fact.
There are schools that people go into to study acting. And most wannabe actors have to work their way to the top even with training so it's understandable how netizens would not like it if an idol gets a starring role without having done the leg work first like a lot of other inspiring actors. It's basically like getting a perk when you haven't deserved it.
ReplyDeleteI can understand how some people would be upset by idols having "perks" but I feel like for more serious dramas, they (rookie actors/idols) all go through the same auditioning process. I think some members of SNSD (yuri?sooyoung?) said they went through hundreds of audition to get a serious acting role, even though they're very famous. It's different for everyone, I guess. IMO some idols really worked hard (in this case, Sunhwa who waited 3 years for a drama role) to even get a role or be considered seriously for acting jobs.
ReplyDeleteYou mean YC ackgae fans hahaha............even JYJ fans are ashamed of those fans and so is YC =____= They are crazy and won't listen to anyone!
ReplyDeleteThere was no reason to throw JYJ fans under the bus to prove your point. I'm every fanbase has their dose.
ReplyDelete5. [+29, -6] Isn't it obvious that idols will get hated on when they're cast in acting roles? They should at least get their acting up to par with the rest of the cast... What do they expect when they suck harder than the children's cast?
ReplyDelete^This is messed up. You're criticizing children now?? Netizens have crossed the line.
i personally find sunhwa really nice and cool as a girl. I don't think it will be ground breaking, but if she really wants to act, i'll watch. We could come to fair grounds if they don't overhype the drama though. Let people watch it themselves to judge.
ReplyDeletehahahahah you coughed so much the actual words were pretty well concealed! but be careful with the cough there.. you might develop some lung problem.. the best way is for idols to silently appear in dramas.. no fuss no drama anything. Just act. If it's bad, people wouldn't kick up such a fuss cos it wasn't that publicized anyway..
ReplyDeleteI think they're saying child actors are better at acting than they are not that they're bad
ReplyDeleteSunhwa acts? Since when?
ReplyDeleteauditioning and actually playing the role are two different things. The idea that your first acting role would be to star in a primetime drama is just laughable and hurt other idols who want to become actors. if they want to get on par take smaller roles in dramas to get the hang of it.
ReplyDeleteI recall Taec saying he had trouble with dream high b/c he didn't know the lingo and filming terminology imagine how irksome that was to the cast and staff to have to explain every little thing to him, whereas if he had a smaller role he could have quietly learned as things went on,
I think that is the biggest problem with idol actors not that they want to transition from idol to actor but they make HUGE leaps while transitioning
I see what you mean. Interesting what Taecyeon said that about the filming process, I can only imagine the exasperation both the crew and cast went through with the new actors with lead roles. Yeah, I think it's rather good for idols to take minor roles just to learn how the industry works. Based on what I read from tumblr, Sunhwa and Ahyoung would have minor roles in this drama and they both stated that they would like to learn from their seniors so I guess that's a good start for them, at least.
ReplyDeletesm stan -- sulli, minho...
ReplyDeletelet me clear it for you: yunho
ReplyDeleteThey won random, small awards unlike Yoochun, who still sucks.
ReplyDeleteit's not like all rookies are that good, please(8 years as rookie and get known through idol drama )... yeah idols shouldn't been given lead roles in the first but still.. give them a chance.. if they flop all the time they need to stop. (yoona and suzy). it's not all actors/acress that good.. some are really bad and idol do much better but ofc actor>idol..
ReplyDeleteI can draw you a diagram if you like.
ReplyDeleteIdk, Yoochun's gotten a lot better (this is his third lead role btw, and fourth drama). I was honestly surprised when I watched clips of I Miss You. It would be sad if he hasn't improved.
ReplyDeleteidols can improve their acting as time goes on. watching siwon's debut performance was the most mind-numbing experience of my life, yet in his recent drama, i was really impressed by his acting skill and the portrayal of his character
ReplyDeleteSigh...I have such love-hate relationship with idol actors. If they're talented (Eunji, Siwon, Eunjung) than it's okay. But when they're really bad (Jessica in Wild Romance, Yunho) it's irritating because you know it's about money (but I'm sure it's about money either way). Casting popular idols almost insures Japanese investment. Which is why it didn't matter that bad dramas like Love Rain were bad because it had Yoona/JGS and it was going to be get sold to Japan (at record numbers) either way.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen her act but hopefully she's more like Eunji and not Jessica.
hmm who/what is advertising genius lee tae baek...? did i miss something?
ReplyDeleteoh sure idols can act, sure. it's not like actors like song seunghoon is better than dongho or minho lulz. and people will miss gems like eunji if they're not allowed too, but please debut right. every people has potential, but those idols got promoted fast with their hallyu status. and since they've took other aspiring actors' place, at least learn well in your acting school or leave it if you can't handle it.
I agree with the netizens to be honest.
ReplyDeleteyou might as well leave the paper blank considering she has the same amount of curves
ReplyDeleteooh burn wow impress brilliant comeback amaze!11!!
