'Strong Heart' loses favor, named a 'trashy program'

Article: [SSReply] 'Strong Heart' Leeteuk special, why even bother inviting Sangchu as a guest?

Source: Sports Seoul via Nate

Editorial type article that points out how Sangchu is enlisting the army just the same as Leeteuk but Strong Heart only focused on Leeteuk, essentially making the episode an Leeteuk special.

1. [+776, -16] This show is an example of what a trashy program really is. The only type of stories told on here are either lies or about how they felt suicidal over a difficult time in their careers. It's a program that spotlights singers that can't sing and actors that can't act.

2. [+639, -13] This article is so true ㅡㅡ I was so embarrassed for Sangchu the entire time I was watching. Leeteuk isn't the only enlisting, why was Sangchu treated like an extra wheel... Must've been so awkward for him

3. [+403, -265] If Kang Ho Dong hyung was there, I bet the program wouldn't have been run in such a way. If Strong Heart is going to continue being trash like this, they should just get rid of the program altogether

  2. Well i thought it was because leeteuk's a permanent cast so to thank him for his dedication to the programme, they decided to give him a special episode. But yeah it might have been kinda awkward for sangchu though. Maybe it would've been better if they didnt invite him. Didnt know that netizens disliked strong heart this much though, i thought it is still quite popular in korea...

  3. Hah. Its funny that the majority of guests were sm artists and netizens thought it was trashy. Its obvious s.Korea hates leeteuk and super junior to a lesser degree, TVXQ is clearly irrelevant now as two, but I thought Shinee was well liked especially Taemin...guess even that wasn't interesting enough.

  4. Now I'm definitely not watching this episode, I hate awkward situations, and poor Sangchu to be treated like this must have been embarrassing.
And seeing as half the guests were idols from SME, it's safe to conclude that Korea really doesn't give two shits about SME or any of their artists.

  5. Don't know who Sangchu is....but poor him. That must have been awkward.

  6. That's messed up...but I think even Sangchu knew that this was going to happen but since he's not an idol like Leeteuk and he's not from an influential company like SM, he goes along with since every variety appearance counts.

Still, "Strong Heart" is wrong for that.

  8. ''It's a program that spotlights singers that can't sing and actors that can't act.''

this is a hater because a lot of great actors appeared on this show. Ji Sung was there just last week. And other famous actors too, this person just want to hate tbh.

  9. This strong heart episode was like

'we are going to miss you so much Leeteuk!''

''we like you so much Leeteuk''

    meanwhile SangChu

    ''Nobody is gonna miss him''
    ''People don't really like him"
    ''Not important enough''

It is so sad, why invite him....

  10. Why can't Leeteuk just go to the army humbly like Heechul?? -.-

  11. See, the thing about Strong Heart is that there are a LOT of people on every "special". I was skeptical over whether it would do well in the beginning because of this fact, but Kang Ho Dong and Lee Seung Gi just nailed it. Also, it was great in the beginning because the show was a great outlet for celebrities who wanted to clear up misunderstandings and to be honest about their past.. initially. But now.. not only are the MC's awkward, the whole show lost its overall aura of authenticity. Celebrities who do promotional runs go on the show frequently (some have been there more than 5 times now, I presume) and their stories are just blah. What once made top articles on media outlets - the stories of hardships, love, family etc. - is now forced, predictable, and trite. It's inevitable: the show has lost it's major "wow" factor, and definitely will be cancelled soon.

  12. Poor Sangchu they totally screwed him over. I miss him. Leeteuk im just happy he's gone.

  13. Whatever we won't be seeing him for TWO whole years! Bye bye attention whore Leeteuk!

  14. That's mean not whole packs. They mean Leeteuk who wanted to be in spotlight in help of Super Junior. They told about miss A's comeback promotion. :P

  15. You become star-crazed. That's normal case but you are to know that there are many who didn't get spotlight but are talented. If Leeteuk was not in SuJu, I wonder how people would treat him :D

  16. this show needed to be shut down since the day it became a pity party for all the idols.

  17. Dang... Sangchu could have used all those valuable hours he spent recording for the show with his family and friends instead... if he was only there to fill a chair with ppl paying little to no attention to him.. really.. what's the point of wasting his time.

  18. Oh yeah~ I'm definitely a fan who knows how it is to have talent but not get a lot of spotlight. I end up stanning a lot of groups like this xD

  19. Yeah I thought the same... Ji Sung was there not long ago and he is a good actor for sure, so not all the people who go there are bad but it's true that they focus a lot on idols and the stories seem fake (and not interesting...) most of the time =/

  20. Nobody cared about Sangchu since everybody was only concerned about Leeteuk. So much bias was on that program -___-

  21. Yet it was first in ratings and had an increase of like 2% from the prior week. I don't particularly like Leeteuk, but people were obviously interested in watching the show, so...I don't think the PD gives a damn. However, I feel sad for Sangchu, he must've felt awful.

  22. Somebody should make a petition to end Strong Heart lol

  23. I was annoyed by everyone / everything that talked about leeteuks enlistment, which should have happened 3 years ago tbh, while Sangchu went in with him AT THE SAME TIME.. ;_; So mean. I'm more sad about Sangchu being gone for 2 years than Leeteuk.. I hope the latter won't be in every show in 2 years again..

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's silly enough that there's even a special for enlistment, considering ALL Korean males have to undergo army training. I understand that being gone for two years can essentially break your career if you don't have a strong comeback, so this is like a goodbye-forever-if-I-lose-my-variety-skills-while-in-the-army thing, but it's so mundane and trivial when it becomes focused on one person.

Watching Sangchu in the Leeteuk special was like watching a joint birthday party, in which one birthday boy (Leeteuk) is showered with attention and gifts, and then after everyone's done celebrating, they remember and lukewarmly congratulate the other birthday boy, with an "Oh yeah, Happy Birthday to you too".

Honestly, I would've preferred it if Sangchu had just gone off to the army without a variety show appearance, like Lee Hyun did, because even that would've been less embarrassing than appearing as a side-guest to the Leeteuk special.

The Strong Heart writers weren't even trying to be discreet about it, considering they gave that whole replies-from-celebrities-to-Leeteuk corner to Leeteuk, and Sangchu got like, what, two minutes, to perform a quick letter from Shorry J.
