ReplyDeleteLove them or hate them, gotta give them credit for the positive contractual changes that were made in the industry after they spoke up. Whatever their motivations were, their actions have benefited all and future idols.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care about the whole 'past TVXQ was better than the present TVXQ' because it's just opinions and I don't really care either way (was neve a big fan of TVXQ), but I do agree that there were contract changes made because of the problems that JYJ brought to light with this lawsuit so I don't really understand those who hate them.
ReplyDeletePersonally, seeing that recent changes have been made to all artists' contracts that give more rights to the artists themselves, I'm thankful to JYJ for possibly helping make my bias' life a little better and a little more fair.
I think everybody deserves to get paid for the work they do. Even if you make enough for a comfortable life, if you're not making what you actually should be earning then it's not fair.

ReplyDeleteI doubt that JYJ's intention when initially filing their lawsuit was to make positive changes in artists' contracts of the future, but it was nonetheless the result of it (and for that I'm mildly grateful).
ReplyDeleteI admit though that I am saddened by the fact that they felt SM was stealing their money and taking away their rights more than having realized what the lawsuit might do to the other 2 members. I understand a business is a business, but I think everyone would not hesitate for one second to note just how incredibly close the 5 of them were.
It sucks that it came out to be a business decision, but 'tis life. Like Junsu, I do hope to see the complete TVXQ on stage at least one more time in their lifetimes.

The reason why they filed the lawsuit in the first place was BECAUSE of their contracts. Up until that point, all SM artists were under similar contracts. Look at Hangeng. The stipulations of his contract were eerily similar to the contracts that JYJ (and probably Changmin and Yunho) signed, and HE was in a totally different group that debuted later.
ReplyDeleteRemember that Junsu and Eunhyuk grew up together and that they were and still are very close friends. Knowing all the things that were fucked up about Hangeng's contract and JYJ's contracts... it stands to reason that other SM artists had to suffer the same way.
Whatever PERSONAL, undisclosed reasons JYJ had for filing the lawsuit, don't automatically assume it WASN'T for the good of their hoobaes. Don't underestimate the friendships they built as trainees (and later as idols) under SM. It's so disrespectful.
He doesn't need to used the name "TVXQ" to gain popularity. He was the main voice of TVXQ when they were a quintet and he's STILL recognized as a very talented singer under his own name and the name of JYJ.

Lots of people are actually really surprised that so many Koreans support Junsu, especially because among international fans there's a lot of people who think that JYJ is evil or that DBSK is evil or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is that the real "evil" in this entire fucked up situation is SM Entertainment for creating those contracts with those specific stipulations in the first place. What company thinks it's okay to make teenagers sign away 14+ years of their life? What company thinks it's okay to make these kids, who are barely adults, to work around the clock, every day, with barely any breaks... and then have the gall to hang the THREAT of being "fined" when they don't comply with their unreasonable demands?
JYJ's lawsuit changed that for SM's artists. Until then, those contracts were FUCKED UP and I'm glad their fight forced SM to change their fucked up ways.
When you look back at other SM idols of the past... H.O.T, Shinhwa, BoA, SES, Fly to the Sky... Compare how busy they were to the idols now. There is a vast difference in the way they are treated, and thank god for that.

i read when they started the lawsuit (that was when i was in korea studying), they actually want to make a new TVXQ group that ONLY consist these three members. This really strip my respect for them JYJ. How could they do that to the two other members?

Or do you think it was because they think THEIR contracts were too unfair that they couldn't stand being stripped of their hard-earned money anymore.
Like I said, I'm grateful because SM did change their contracts, but I doubt that Junsu was thinking of Eunhyuk (his childhood best friend) when he turned in his lawsuit... I mean, did he think about Homin? Yeah, I doubt that either.
The fact of life is that when making career and life decisions people don't think of their friends. In the future, if they had money problems....their friends from the same group would be having those same problems. In life you cannot rely on your friends only, and have to support yourself. Also, one day they will all have their own families to support....and where the hell would that money come from? Will they lend money to each other or something =___= In an ideal world, you always stay by your friends sides, but when you are at a crossroads you have to make the best decision for your own career and financial future.
ReplyDeleteDBSK5 were at this crossroad....and EACH side made decisions on what they thought would benefit them the most in the future.
One side knew from SME's past history, that SME could not be relied on....when they got older....they could be kicked to the curb like their seniors in replacement of their juniors. This was most evident when Shinee was being called the 'new DBSK' in SME press releases when they were going to debut. This side was also very ambitious and SME wasn't meeting their needs.
On the other hand, the other side chose to trust SME, and was grateful for what they already had. For them staying was the most profitable choice at the time, and so that is the choice they made to support their future.
Not all groups can be like Shinhwa...who had a semi-wealthy leader who helped the group members out in bad times, and even bought the name from SME. But, Shinhwa tbh is the most complete and best idol group. That is why they are respected by so many.
Where is this article? The only pieces of crap I ever read that even alluded to that were on anti-fan forum posts—which at least tripled when the lawsuit happened.

Babe. As far as I know (and I do know about JYJ situation very well). Initially ALL of them yes ALL meaning 5 of them wanted to file a lawsuit against SM, wanting to end their contracts BUT for some reason Changmin & Yunho dropped out.

They left SM for their mental & physical well being. They were basically been treated like their not humans, constant overseas flight, non stop activities & worked nearly 365 days a year/ 366 in leap years.
They have never used the name DBSK because that's a name they (JYJ) believed was used only when they are 5.
