Updates on 'Super 7' concert cancellation + Gil's withdrawal from 'Infinity Challenge'

I actually had no idea that this was such a big issue until readers started bringing it up. You guys requested a bit more updates on it so here you go... This was definitely the top ranking issue for the past two days. I'm sorry I can't explain anything or give you further insight as I don't really know what's going on, so I hope the netizens do a better job explaining.

Article: 'Super 7' concert completely canceled "We were not able to oversee what was most important"

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+1,612, -526] Through this ordeal, I couldn't help but question why the members of 'IF' have to give free concerts or at a cheaper price than others. It's like them going around giving people a dollar every day.. and while at first those people are thankful for the dollar, they later think it's definite that they should receive a dollar and get mad when they don't receive it...

2. [+935, -220] It's unfortunate that the viewers and 'IF' both lost without gaining anything...

3. [+407, -93] It's upsetting that people think anything regarding 'IF' should be free. There might have been problems with their promotions, but I'm sure that the concert itself would have lived up to the prices asked.

Article: Super 7 concert completely canceled, 'IF' members prove their genuinity

Source: Mediaus via Nate

1. [+781, -102] The members are now being forced to pay back the costs lost by the concert's cancellation, which is rumored to be in the hundreds of thousands. The concert itself was planned by Leessang Company and the members of 'IF' for the fans during the strike period. They paid out of their own pockets to rent a concert hall for their fans. That's why the concert was called 'Super 7', not 'Infinity Challenge Super 7'. The ones that connected the concert to 'IF' were the fans themselves.

Furthermore, to the two faced people that are hating on Leessang Company while defending 'IF', please just screw off and just admit that you hate Gil. Leessang Company had nothing to gain out of this concert. To those that are hating them, have you ever even been to a Leessang concert? Artists make barely any money from their concerts as it is simply just a way for them to connect with their fans.

Why do people expect everything from 'IF' to be free? Why don't you ask them to appear on TV for free too? Or ask Yoo Jae Suk to come sing at your wedding for free? If you meet one of them on the streets, ask them for a free meal while you're at it too! It's the same thing, don't you agree?

It's not T-ara we should be hating right now because these netizens are no better than T-ara. Netizens have only been on the receiving end of goods from 'IF' and now they think that it's something definite. For months on end, the members planned this concert and put a price to it to show that much more quality work, but now their efforts are now shattered. All because things didn't go the way you idiots planned.

2. [+743, -112] The guest line-up was amazing, the concert itself was amazing... Idol concerts cost $100 these days, I think that's more of a waste of money than this 'IF' concert could have ever been. You are all hating on them for the prices, but all they did was get rid of the $130 seats and increased the $99 seats and cut back on the cheaper seats so that their staff, guest, bills, and studio fees could be paid. Do you think the members need to work for you for free? Leessang's already busy with their nationwide tour but still worked hard to make this Super 7 happen, and yet you idiots are telling Gary to donate money on his Twitter ㅡㅡ This is why nothing should be given for free

3. [+635, -90] Ah!!!!!!!!!!! This is driving me crazy!!!!!!! I really wanted to see the concert, I waited so long for it ㅡㅡ How am I ever going to see another artist's concert now? I'm so angry and frustrated because I know that they have lost so much..

Article: 'IF' Super Concert cancellation brings hundreds of thousands in losses... Members to pay everything

Source: No Cut News via Nate

1. [+1,498, -152] The members of 'IF' are not a group under an agency but a collection of people that mostly own their own agencies. Each and every member has an incredible worth to the industry. The fact that the concert was not supported by a broadcast network means that they had to handle the production stages from the very beginning to the end, including all of the expenses. The guests were Leessang, Tiger JK, Yoon Mirae, Psy, G-Dragon, Sweet Sorrow, Hyungdon and Daejun, 10cm, and Bada... Is $100 really too expensive to pay to be able to see these people along with the 7 members?

The members did not want to use the name of 'IF' to their benefit and worked hard to make sure they did not put any harms way to their guests and staff. I heard that the concert did not even take in any advertisements. That means that they would have still been met with a loss even with their initial price of $130 per ticket. Leessang could not have made any money out of this concert. And even if they did, why would that have been a problem...?
Just because 'IF' has been performing for free and donating that to charity does not mean you are entitled to get everything for free.

Anyway, with the cancellation of the concert, the members have just lost their utmost effort, time, and money. How dare people say that they were blinded by money, that they were expecting to be paid as much as "true" singers... Are the supposed 'true fans of IF' disappointed by this ordeal truly their fans? Are they happy with these results?

2. [+1,226, -119] Since when was it law that 'IF' has to perform for free and always donate those proceeds?

3. [+1,135, -97] I am an 'IF' fan myself, but I feel like this was all messed up by the 'IF' fans without brains

-

Article: Gil announces withdrawal from 'Infinity Challenge', "The Super 7 concert is all my fault"

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+2,078, -288] If I were him, I wouldn't want to be on the show either

2. [+2,048, -468] Are all of the brainless 'IF' fans happy now? You guys are all trash. You all must be so happy now that your 'standard line-up' are the only members left.

3. [+566, -70] People are really so two-faced. Just yesterday, everyone in the comments were yelling at Leessang Company for trying to use 'IF' to make some money, but now that the concert's canceled and Gil's leaving, everyone's like, "Don't go~ㅜㅜ~".

Article: Leessang Gil "I've decided to leave 'Infinity Challenge'" withdrawal announcement after 3 years

Source: Mydaily via Nate

1. [+780, -97] Korea will fail because of the keyboard, you dumbas*es

2. [+735, -115] People are so cruel. The members worked so hard to show a high quality concert and all people can do is complain and whine about ticket prices and time. If you can't afford it or don't have the time, then don't go. These are not things you have the right to say to people who put months of work into this. Are you all happy now that the only people left are the original members you all wanted so bad?

3. [+708, -102] To all of the people who whined about tickets being expensive, are you all happy now?

Article: Gil, announces withdrawal from 'Infinity Challenge'.. 'IF' fans cry

Source: OSEN via Nate

1. [+125, -31] You worked too hard for the past 3 years to quit... Don't leave... An 'IF' without Gil is so empty.

2. [+115, -46] There's obviously so much he worked for.. so how upset must he be to leave that all behind?

3. [+101, -46] Everything is the damn fault of these keyboard warriors. The netizens are the problem to everything.

  1. This is so sad, glad to see some rational netizens. It's no wonder the concert market is so abysmal in Korea. You can't even get nosebleed seats for the price they wanted to pay for vip

  2. Korea will fail because of the keyboard...SO DAMN TRUE! netizens' words are having too much influence on the society!

Gil and gary, please come back to tv as soon as you can :((((

  3. I think people are angry because they expected this concert to be free of charge, but were mad when they realised the concert had NOTHING to do with Infinity Challenge (meaning they weren't going to broadcast in on TV - like with their past end of year concert) and they were being charged for tickets since Infinity Challenge has always been a generous show with donations & doing things for charity. Personally, I'm still confused as to why Korean citizens were so angry that Leessang has to stop all variety broadcasts. But this is just what I think...

I am so disappointed right now. Gil was the member who received the least love on the show and was insulted so badly for riding on the show's bandwagon to gain popularity. I thought he was pretty funny! Seeing him beat himself like this makes me really sad and upset as an avid viewer of the show. Same for Gary. So many viewers love watching him on Running Man (I do, too!) To see both of them leaving the variety world just makes me speechless and disappointed with everyone who complained.

I sincerely pray that Leessang, the Infinity Challenge & Running Man members, and everyone who's affected (such as Leessang Company members, PD님s etc.) will get over this soon! If the Leessang members think that leaving the variety world is the right thing, then I believe we should all support their decision even though their presence will be missed.

  4. Korean netizens are sure 2-faced. Just like the 3rd comment of the 4th article. Netizenbuzz usually post articles of the post-controversy, and the k-netizens in the top comments are , let's call them the "mature ones, the good people".
But then you have to remember that it's these few same bunch of k-netizens who fueled the controversy, adding this and that, becoming the "keyboard warriors" or what I would say, the "whinny ones".
K-netizens, I'm confused. Are the bulk of you the "whiny" ones or the "mature" ones. Because I thnk you have problems differentiating yourself too.

    1. Also, how can those k-netizens expect it to be free??! MBC is not sponsoring the concert. If the tickets aren't priced, the IC members/Leessang company would be suffering from a great loss! They have to try to at least cover their cost.
      These k-netizens sure are self-centered.

  5. What! $130 for the most expensive tickets? Kpop management companies sure know how to milk money frm the I-fans. I live in Singapore and tickets can be priced up to $300+ or $230+ (the mosh pit for beast's concert). Granted maybe they have to spend $ on plane tickets and hotels, but still! It's priced way more than their Western or Chinese/Taiwanese counterparts!
    tsk kpop management...

  6. i read some korean research before and some representatives also pointed out that since korea music industry is hyper competitive and people are also used to the current pricing standard...if artists set the price too high, no one would watch it. thats why the price of korea's concert tickets and cheaper than those oversea. and because of this, artists cannot feed themselves by concert and digital sales and have to other jobs like venturing japan, guesting on other tv shows etc., which do no good to their music career

  7. Thank you for posting about it, I was one of the people who asked about it! Thanks again.

And I'm really sad how some netizens just have t destroy something they aren't happy with.

They say they just wanted to win money? What about these netizens who were winning about not being free? They also wanted money, not wanted to loose THEIR money. You know, the IF members MUST donate/give off their money but these netizens CAN'T and WON'T because they are such hypocrities!

Yes, and these netizens are the same who waste a lot of money on their oppas/unnis stuff. Remix song? Buy it. Limited edition? Buy it too.

    Repacked editiong? Buy it.

They waste so much time on useless things but get pissed when someone ask money for something that is worth it?

  11. Korean idols concerts considered shorter and more costly compared to chinese / western artists who comes to my country. And sometimes korean idols fanmeet (not a concert) are more expensive than chinese / western artists concerts. dafuq.

  12. poor k-idols/singers.

    cheap concert tickets,illegal music/video downloads,cheap tv variety appearance fee,etc.

yet knetizens are expecting too much from them but giving them(idols/singers) practically nothing.

what a tough world kpop artists are living in.

  14. thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you for translating. T.T how some people in akp justify some of those netizens action pissed me off. whatever their excuses, it's obvious that the reason why they're being whiny is because they dislike gil. the date, the overpriced ticket, everything can be discussed nicely if not for their prejudice to gil & gary. they've been harassing him for YEARS, every, single, week. and now gil finally depart, are you happy now???? how come these people call themselves as "fans"? not only they mess with IC, they also trample gary's career in RM. it's really heartbreaking. i'm really crying right now. i still don't want gil or gary to depart.... nooooo.... T.T why why why can't they keep their vicious comments to themselves??? whyy???? do netizens need to be slapped by this kind of action before they really stop? must they wait for t-ara or bigbang do something bad to themselves so they finally quit harassing them? if they don't like it, then don't buy it, don't give a damn about it.... if they hate on the company, then point your finger at the authority, not maliciously harassing a person over half baked facts... T.T again, thanks for translating this stuff. i'm glad there're many supportive fans... >.<

anyway, it's more known as IC, not IF~ ^^

  16. see what the knetizens did to the artists whom they professed to love!!!how much more to artists & idols they hate.

i guess cruelty is innate in them

  17. to Anon who replied to me.. I know them because I follow K-idols and groups alot. Netizens would comment artists and celebs to commit suicide asa they are in scandals!! They would even sing petition of DEATH and send those to respective artist/celeb house!! Once an eye-sore in K-netizen's eye they will bring HELL to those artists/celebs!!

Anon Sep 22, 2012 5: 37 AM, K-netiznes arent loyal fans of anyone!! As long as idols listen well to netizens, Netizens love them but as soon as a scandal appears netizens are ready to burn alive the same idol!! Look at T-ara( I'm mentioning this as a fan of t-ara so your prospective may not be same as mine), they are dragged into every other idol's scandal( GD's Comeback. Seungri's scandal, Ho Dong's CB, Secret's CB, 2pm's CB, Nichkhun's scandal and so on) and are cyber bullied!! Netizens dont forgive and accept mistakes as if they are god and dont make any mistake!! Feel sorry for those kpop artists, they are living in a tough world!! Btw, you quoted" I guess cruelty is innate in them" and I truely agree that!!!

  19. this is one of those stupid issues... I personally thought people in SK/knetizens really liked IC...! ugh and as usual this is the so called "fans" doing... if they love like this, i can imagine what they do to those they hate...
so they think they need to get free concerts all the time? "if youre got at something, you never do it for free" theyre on their right to make profit from their efforts... and they can even take all the money, make a bed and roll on it if they want because every artist in the world does it... now there wont be more Gil or Gary on TV... :( at times i think celebs in SK need to adopt the "i dont care eh eh eh eh eh" attitude when things like this happen...! they need to take a break when they did no wrong...!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Another reason (on top of a massive mountain of existing reason) why k-pop record labels and idols should NEVER listen to netizens or comply with any of their demands. When they do, everything just turns to shit. They would have been better off sticking to the initial ticket price and saying "if you don't like it don't buy it, fuckheads". Netizens will destroy k-pop.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's such a contradiction that the KNetizens are causing this problem to their own country's artistes, while the international fans are all so supportive. Charging a fee for a concert is necessary as they still need to cover the costs and since proceeds will go to the charity, I don't see any issue on this. Even if the proceeds are not for charity, it can still be treated as a normal concert. I don't understand why the KNetizens are kicking up a big fuss. Why are people so critical? I cannot believe there are such senseless people thinking there will be free concerts. If they don't want to pay, then so be it. I believe all of the artistes are performing for free...it must be very sad for them to be criticized for making money out of this. Anyway, it is with much regret that both Gil and Gary decide to leave the shows, but I think it would also be good for them to let this saga cool off and concentrate on their music career. It's such a regret...I still cannot comprehend why this can happen when I really do not see any issue with this. Maybe all the fans should write a petition for this concert to continue...though I think chances are slim as they have already announced the cancellation. But at least they can see that the fans do support them.
