1. [+2,446, -33] It's okay, no country in the world can catch up to your AV content. Have some pride in yourself.

2. [+728, -18] At least the Japanese don't illegally download our content like the Chinese do

3. [+580, -52] Like Kim Goo had hoped, our country has become a cultural powerhouse

4. [+410, -50] Japanese variety shows are terrible... they invite celebrities just to hit them, torture them, laugh at them.. I don't think Japan can catch up until they change their culture.

5. [+108, -0] We shouldn't be sitting back and enjoying this moment. It should be a word of caution because history has shown that nothing lasts forever. There was a time when Hong Kong movies were all the rage, and American soap operas swept up our TVs. There was even a time when Japanese and Chinese dramas were at the forefront as well. Marvel movies dominated the movie industry for the past 10 years but even they're now considered outdated and overdone. I know that our own movies and dramas can't be at the top forever but we should focus on our roots and learn from the rise and fall of content from other countries.

6. [+57, -2] Japan's good at animes, Korea's good at dramas, the US is good at movies; that's just how it is

7. [+23, -1] I remember enjoying a lot of Japanese dramas in the '90s and early '00s... but now??? Seems like they just use the same plots over and over with different actors. Their series are only fun up to the third episode until it devolves into the same "life lesson" with the same boring ending. I don't think their animes are doing that well either, and I don't see them beating Korean content any time soon... especially if they keep going with the over-the-top comedy style that is so unrealistic.

8. [+15, -0] Japan's still at the top when it comes to animation, from children's shows to adult movies

9. [+15, -1] Content from the US is usually centered on discovering new things, undiscovered things, anything that stimulates the viewer. Japan focuses on over-the-top, exaggerated themes. As for Korea, our actors put their whole souls into pulling through with the same makjang plot over and over again, which, oddly enough, never gets boring no matter how many hundreds of thousands of makjang plots we see.

10. [+10, -1] We have a lot to be grateful for towards Japan... When Hallyu first began spreading around the world, Japan helped lay the groundwork. They aren't like the Chinese who are watching everything illegally... Japan's market helped us a lot by consuming Korean pop, movies, dramas... which was a huge push forward since they're the second largest market in the world. Despite ill historical feelings towards our two countries, we should be grateful that Japan was the first to recognize our content for what it is and readily consume it.

11. [+10, -1] I guess the biggest difference would be that Japan produces content for their domestic audience while Koreans consider international appeal. That's why we also sometimes produce movies and dramas that are totally ignored domestically sometimes.

12. [+12, -4] Pfft, they should stop with the exaggeration... Compared to their anime market, Hallyu content barely brings in 1/10 of that.
