JDY: "I chose the movie 'The Road Home' because I felt that it was a work that had a positive message for both families and actresses."

Son Suk Hee: "I think I can guess why you think that since lately, there aren't many movies where it's about a female character or led by female roles. That's what you mean, right?"

JDY: "You're right. I keep thinking it'll get better but movies have always been centered around male actors and male characters. I sincerely hope that it will get better (for females)."

1. [+336, -13] People may argue that it's like that because there are more talented males than females but the thing with our country is that Koreans judge actresses based on their looks and hate on them if they're not beautiful. It doesn't matter how great at acting you are.. if you look average, you're only going to be getting minor roles. We will never get a female Kim Yoon Shik or Song Gang Ho. Actresses like Moon Sori or Jun Do Yeon (I personally think they're beautiful) who are known for their acting (as opposed to their beauty) are people who already have connections with directors, which is why they're cast so often in movies. They're the minority.

2. [+172, -29] As the saying goes, a woman's greatest enemy is another woman. In our country, we will never be accepting of female celebrities.

3. [+145, -12] 8 out of 10 Koreans think that an actress of the lead role level needs to be beautiful above anything else. That's why Gong Hyo Jin always gets hate... and that's why we'll never get female talents to the likes of Song Gang Ho, Choi Min Shik, Ha Jung Woo, Ryu Seung Ryong... You can be outstanding at acting and be stuck in sub roles if you're not pretty.

4. [+10, -0] As a female, you can't get a lead role if you're not pretty. Have you ever seen someone like Ra Mi Ran get a lead role? And the funny thing about the movie 'The Alumni' is that the lead role is Han Yeri but it's Kim Yoo Jung who is being promoted on variety shows.

5. [+7, 0] She's right... there are very few movies where a female character has any depth, let alone a movie centered around a female character. I really hope for improvement.

6. [+7, -0] Because Koreans only want to see beautiful women on the screen

7. [+5, -0] Because when a female is on the screen, female audience members are thinking "Where did she get work done?" and male audience members are thinking "At what point in the movie does she strip?"

8. [+4, -0] Aside from Gong Hyo Jin, I've never seen a female lead who wasn't outstandingly beautiful. People say that the industry is severely lacking twenty something actresses right now but I think it's only because they're looking for beauty over talent;; There are a lot of male actors who look unique or dare I say even ugly/not traditionally handsome. Roles like Samchunpo... but the opportunity is never given to women.
