TV: [Spoilers!!!] The Best Lee Soon Shin (Finale)

Article: Finale 'Lee Soon Shin', IU grabs hold of both her dreams + love.. happy ending

Source: Star News via Naver + Nate + Nate

1. [+3,498, -42] It's not until the last episode that the plot fastforwards at LTE speed

2. [+3,018, -46] Scriptwriter, I'll be looking forward to the name of your next drama... so that I can avoid it

3. [+1,054, -55] We all thought IU would be the downfall of this drama but it was the scriptwriter

4. [+771, -14] Scriptwriter, please never write another 50 episode long drama again ㅠㅠ How could you end the drama like this.. Are you not at all apologetic to the viewers who watched until the end? What kind of ending is this? ㅡㅡ

5. [+725, -13] The scriptwriter should look for a new job

6. [+664, -9] So the entire cast wakes up one morning and decides to turn into nice people... what a conclusion.

7. [+189, -7] I've never seen a worst KBS drama in its history... No fun, no touching moments... All they did was rip at each other in the search of their birth parents until randomly deciding to be nice to each other.

8. [+112, -15] Everyone was worried about IU in this drama... but the true enemy was the scriptwriter.

  1. Lol all these comments about the scriptwriter. Honestly they really did stretch out the plot... which was one of the reasons why I stopped watching :/

    ReplyDelete
  2. there was 50 episodes to this O___o damn

    ReplyDelete
  3. I stopped watching at episode 30 LOL. This sort of drama would've done well if it was 16 episodes.

  5. lol reading the comments make me not want to watch this drama. 50 episodes though? ain't nobody got time for that

    ReplyDelete
  6. I guess in the new drama articles we'll see more comments about the scriptwriter rather than the idols.

    ReplyDelete
  7. this easily should have been a 16 or 20 episode drama, I stopped watching after 12 episodes because I knew I would be left with a disappointing feeling ( which is why I am now picky with the dramas I watch), but IU did a great job and you cannot deny her acting skills.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think this is one of the dramas that i-fans and k-fans came together to blame the scriptwriter. So beautiful.

  12. the final episode was so meta I kinda loved it LOL. But the ending was ...the most random ending ever... he pulled out the ring..and ..the end? WTF was that?

Glad IU released her " gift song" shortly afterwards, it's so cute and sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  13. lol it finally ends? I watched til ep 24 or 28 and i gave up.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Such a waste of a talented actor like Jo Jung Seok. And it was his first lead role to.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i have trouble watching a 16 or 20 episode long drama... there's no way i'd be able to watch a 50 episode long one D:

    ReplyDelete
  16. It just went by so slowly... For 20 episodes nothing happened. I wonder if the scriptwriter just forgot how many episodes she was writing and then she got to the end and realized that she had to finish the script oi...

oh my god please tell me the commenter is exaggerating. if not i think ive read better fanfics than that

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was really looking forward to this as Yoo Inna's first drama since QIHM but I just didn't like this drama.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "2. [+3,018, -46] Scriptwriter, I'll be looking forward to the name of your next drama... so that I can avoid it"

I like it when knets express their negative feelings this way

    ReplyDelete
  21. 15 is the perfect length. 20 is a stretch. 50 is just overkill.

    ReplyDelete
  22. did u just use an akp picture..?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Try a 120 episode one..although Shut Up Family was fun to watch

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not a waste... it reached 30% rating. It's a good start for him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It still did well tho... (didn't have any competition and) reached high ratings ^^

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ssh! ;D I loved this picture. Had to save it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah but it was because there is nothing else to watch in this time slot lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. 120 is just bring it back from the dead and killing it again

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've actually watched every single episode of this drama, and it proved to be a good thing to play in the background while I organize a few files or something. I forget to look for half the episode, and I still didn't miss a thing.

This drama isn't worth even for reading the recaps.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 6. [+664, -9] So the entire cast wakes up one morning and decides to turn into nice people... what a conclusion.

This happens in so many dramas, its truly ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i watched weekend drama my husband got a family and my daughter seoyeong but i rarely watch lee soo shin.. weekend drama from KBS is usually really good but lee soo shin is not..

    ReplyDelete
  33. 6. [+664, -9] So the entire cast wakes up one morning and decides to turn into nice people... what a conclusion.

    Kdramas in a nut shell.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sometimes the comments are so damn snarky. It's freaking hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  35. why are they surprised

literally 90% of kdramas are terrible cliches.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i've watched a mexican drama (aka novela) that was 440 episodes...
5 days a week from 5-6pm for almost 2 years of my life yup

    ReplyDelete
  37. So have I man but that's different, I have seen plenty of novelas but they are easier to get through for some reason while having to sit in your computer with a annoying plot it's hard to get through(glass mask started ok but then :/)

    ReplyDelete
  38. New Tales of Gisaeng is a 52 episode drama and it was great. I think if the script/writing and cast is great, even if it's 100 episodes people would still want to watch. Think of American shows that goes on for seasons and seasons

    ReplyDelete
  39. I dont get why people are so shocked by a 50 episodes drama. I guess I must be crazy when I finished You Are My destiny with 178 episodes.

Anyway, aside for this drama, family dranas arent bad and can be a fun ride and much better than some 16/20 episodes drama Some people said Aint no time for it but perso, I prefer watching a good and hilarious drama a la Unexpected You with 58 episodes than watching three shitty dramas a la Dr Jin, 7th Servant Civil and Big.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's EXACTLY what my mom does: she's knitting, chatting on the phone, or even doing vacumning when she's "watching" these Sunday dramas.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shut Up Family was quite boring to sit through 120 eps, but I finished Temptation of Wife through episodes 1 to 129 without fastforwarding. If it the script is written well I don't mind long drama. It's just at the end, you starts to feel empty inside...

    ReplyDelete
  42. I watched from start to finish. The scriptwriters really screwed the drama. 30 eps. To FINALLY pick up some pace. Then they don't really follow the original 'zero nobody to stop star' storyline. Like I was expecting something like Skip Beat, not this over dramatic everyone I want to punch at some point for screwing IU's character mind around into being a push over.

Ugh, seriously the cast kept me going. If they had this same drama and different cast it would NOT have been entertaining the few times it was.

Still hate all three moms, granny and ex. Don't care what they did in the ending. Still hate them.

    ReplyDelete
  43. In my country, a drama lasted from 1998 to 2001 or 2003. During those years, it was one of the most popular dramas. Like yours, it was aired five days a week. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't know I enjoyed it, mostly because I'm a huge Dasom fan, my little siblings and I like it a lot because it s centered around the family. I haven't seen ToW, You who rolled in unexpectedly/my husband has a family was a long one and fun to I watch though.
The thing about more serious dramas that have a lot of episodes, it that the whole victim/innocent vs evil/mean characters just drags onfor too long, the only reason why I stuck around with glass mask is because I wanted her to get revenge but that took forever

    ReplyDelete
  45. like, i-fans and k-fans have all come to a concensus. The scriptwriter was really terrible..I watched the whole thing though for the 3 couples. IU and Jo Jung Suk saved the ending by releasing a duet LOL. That duet made the drama worthwhile for me XD

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scriptwriter was terrible tbh. I didn't watch all of the episodes but the ones I did watch were fucking boring. Sounds like the finale was the typical k-drama cop out bullshit ending. -.-;;

    ReplyDelete
  47. wait to see turkish dramas, some of those never end

    ReplyDelete
  48. It gave him exposure & experience :) prior to this drama, I never heard of him. I hope he'll pick a great script (and shorter drama) next!

    ReplyDelete
  49. For once, comment writers coming together for a good cause and NOT insulting an 'idol' actor/actresses first. This is beautiful.
*Yes I consider IU to be technically an idol.

    ReplyDelete
  50. well i guess u didn't watch any of the high kick series then

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ikr! we have drama which name is 'kurtlar vadisi' and this drama started in 2003 and this drama. is still airing because of high ratings

    ReplyDelete
  52. i tried to remember anything memorable scene from this drama, but nope,.. nothing
    worst kbs weekend drama indeed

    ReplyDelete
  53. lol I gave up at 20 even though I love IU I just can't stand it anymore

    ReplyDelete
  54. 2. [+3,018, -46] Scriptwriter, I'll be looking forward to the name of your next drama... so that I can avoid it

HAHAHA!!! omg! this alone is making me not to watch the drama

    ReplyDelete
  55. i stopped on eps 32 coz it's freaking boring ... but i guess i'll continue since IU is awesome on this drama

    ReplyDelete
  56. but the dramas with more than 100 episodes are 30 minutes so... 120 30 minutes episodes, would be 60 1hour episodes... not much too :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Worst drama of the year, I couldn't even bring myself to finish it (Idk how I even managed to watch 40 episodes), glad I didn't know, these comments tell me I made a good choice

    ReplyDelete
  58. Not the first K-drama to have a less-than-impressive ending.

It's not even uncommon for scriptwriters and heads of production to half-ass their shit along the way nowadays. Korea needs a legendary combination like Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg to produce something of exceptional quality.

    Dramas are rapidly becoming formulaic.

    ReplyDelete
  59. 50 episodes.
Does everyone remember YoonA's Your're My Destiny? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  60. Whut wait 2003? Lol its like ten years! Are the cast still the same or?

    ReplyDelete
  61. yup i still know the songs too -___-
its like engraved into my memory lol

    ReplyDelete
  62. Actually, some of the longer I.e. more than 20 episodes korean dramas are not as bad as what is said below. Try watching Gaksital. Joo Won's acting probably will blow you away. Or 'The one who rolled in unexpectedly'/'my husband has a family'. I simply adore this drama. Its just so ultra good until I'm speechless. The acting is good, the story is not draggy and even fun and lighthearted. Revenge dramas are long, like 'wife's temptation'. It still made my blood boil when I recalled this drama. There's a lot of long dramas few years back which are really nice too but I can't remember the english translation of the dramas.

However, there are some that are really long and draggy. This drama is just 50 episodes. There's a korean drama called 'Smile Again' which is about 150 episodes and the plot was so draggy in the middle and towards the end. Goodness. I admired my perseverance.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ......... one hundred and seventy eight WHAT

    ReplyDelete
  64. Haven't watched the last few episodes yet. I probably enjoyed this drama more than many of you guys. I think the first 30 episodes are solid. There are a few episodes I really liked (of course with such a long drama I don't expect every episode to be enjoyable). But it goes downhill after the reveal of the birth secret with some really unnecessary plotlines (Choi Yeona going crazy, the Shin papa affair etc.)

Good: Acting (esp JJS, IU, LMS), chemistry (all three lovelines of the sisters are satisfying), a few funny minor characters (the waiter and bread man's assistant), fashion (esp restaurant oppa's shirts OMG)

Bad: Writing (obviously), editing (there are many times that one scene goes to another scene without even any transition), some really useless characters (I'm looking at you, Shin CEO's sister), a lot of dysfunctional families (the Lee family is not even like dysfunctional but in a fun sort of way, just dysfunctional and depressing).

Conclusion: I've seen better, I've seen worse.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tbh I honestly think that some scriptwriters (I hear your voice) are former fanfic writers.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The moms and the grandma annoyed the hell out of me lol. Even my love for IU couldn't make me continue

    ReplyDelete
  67. It was quite a nice drama but I'm wondering why Im Soo-hyang and Sung-hoon aren't in the lead roles after "New Tales of Gisaeng". I thought their acting was decent and they have visuals.

    ReplyDelete
  68. i think its cause soooooo much goes on in novelas. they don't always focus on the main plot, you usually know they background story of even the most insignificant character, where as in kdramas everything that happens has to do with the main plot so it gets boring faster

    ReplyDelete
  69. I like IU but I can't watch 50 episodes. LoL. and I agree with the scriptwriter realizing that she needs to conclude this drama.

    ReplyDelete
  70. reminds me of Sung Si-won (Eunji).

    I should start writing fanfics...

P.S: I Hear Your Voice is just too awesome. Never knew a drama could be so good.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Unexpected you was a great drama and i agree those three dramas was shitty. I stopped watching them after the third ep.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yes, I wonder about that too! Perhaps they are not in a good entertainment agency? Im Soo-hyang was in Iris II, but lol I think Sung-hoon appeared in a mv and that's about it

    ReplyDelete
  73. That picture is all over the internet O_O

    ReplyDelete
  74. yes. she was like one of the main casts for Iris II and I Do I Do but I didn't watch both dramas.

    ReplyDelete
  75. shinhwa dongwan's kbs drama Cheer Up Mr.Kim is quite good, it's 124 episodes, eventho the plot is too draggy in the end, it's decent and the rating is great too. i cant believe it i finished that 124 episodes of drama tho xD Only watching bcs of dongwan lol

    ReplyDelete
  76. The main leads get to revenge or wake up fr coma to make it more successful around 100 ep.

    ReplyDelete
  77. anyone knows what's the next drama ?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yes except main girl because you know every drama need main guy who are in pain because they didn't meant to be together etc... just one episode is between 90-110 minute:/...by the way, main guy bought 300 apartmant thanks to income from drama...he is fucking rich now

    ReplyDelete
  79. LOL idk why I do it. If nothing's on, it feels too quiet. If it's just music, it's still a bit lonely. So a drama fits just fine xD

    ReplyDelete
  80. LMAO, yeah it's very long but it's a daily drama with episodes of 30 minutes so it's not that bad.
Gotta remind you that it's full of makjang stuffs so of course, you are going to be addicted until the very end. I remember watching the drama all night long during vacations xD.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 8. [+112, -15] Everyone was worried about IU in this drama... but the true enemy was the scriptwriter.

    YESSS... Damn scriptwriter...( >_< )
I stopped watching weeks ago, because i couldn't take it no more !!

Well, the next drama is also going to be 50 episode, but im actually exticed for this one cause, one of my favorite Korean actresses is playing lead in this: Lee Yoon-ji (The Great Seer, The King 2 Hearts). And i love her acting. The teaser was seemed good and was funny to. So im keeping my fingers crossed that this one will make up for the disaster that is "The Best Lee Soon Shin". pfff ( ">_> )

    ReplyDelete
  82. Royal Family, with Lee Yoon Ji. Also known as the little sister of Lee Seungi character in "The King 2 Hearts". Good actress ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  83. i love this drama..totally makjang!!
but now i think i should just read it at dramabeans.
not gonna waste my time waiting for it every sat-sun

    ReplyDelete
  84. amaya aguero monzonAugust 26, 2013 at 5:15 AM

LOL and l was thinking of watching this drama !!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Horrible drama that killed the golden slot.
Awful is an understatement for this drama.
We went from Ojakgyo Brothers > My Husband's Got a Family > My Daughter Seoyong *record Scratchhhhhhhhhhhh The Best Lee Soon Shin.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Omg this. I don't always watch this drama but I'm still able to understand where's it heading and what happened before loool. This drama's plot is moving ~*~too fast~*~ that I can even watch whilst doing my papers and read fanfics.

    ReplyDelete
  87. ROFL whut??

    ReplyDelete
  88. oooh ya turkish dramas are painfully long!
And some of them have seasons like it's not enough to watch 100 eps or so one time nooo you have to watch another season and sometimes another one!
But to be honest there are ones who make it worth your time.

    ReplyDelete
  89. lol it's true^^

    ReplyDelete
  90. they were like the closest thing to "idol" in latin america ,
    it was insane

    ReplyDelete
  91. Lol you people should watch an Indian drama. You ain't gonna be alive when the last ep airs. That's how long they run.

    ReplyDelete
  92. oh!soap operas! I've watched those too!Though I don't know if they were all mexican or brazilian,spanish.... I've watched Maria la del Barrio,la usurpadora,Marianna de la Noche,Esmeralda,Gata Salvaje .... I watched them with my grandmother when I was little>< lol! they showed all these in greek TV><

    ReplyDelete
  93. Rebelde Way?? OMG I loved this :D Mia was my favourite^^!!~~~ and also watched floricienta, chiquititas, romeo y julieta^^~~

    ReplyDelete
  94. Turkish dramas are the new trend in my country after the latin american ones. They're evertwhereO.O I don't even open my tv anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Based on these comments, it's sounds like a really bad drama..... After watching my favorite drama "I Hear Your Voice", I wanted to watch another drama during my freetime. Is the drama good enough for me to watch or is it really as bad as everyone says?

    ReplyDelete
  96. [+3,018, -46] Scriptwriter, I'll be looking forward to the name of your next drama... so that I can avoid it

[+1,054, -55] We all thought IU would be the downfall of this drama but it was the scriptwriter

[+771, -14] Scriptwriter, please never write another 50 episode long drama again ㅠㅠ How could you end the drama like this.. Are you not at all apologetic to the viewers who watched until the end? What kind of ending is this? ㅡㅡ

[+725, -13] The scriptwriter should look for a new job

[+112, -15] Everyone was worried about IU in this drama... but the true enemy was the scriptwriter.

Yes! I'm watching this drama because of IU, Jo Jungsuk and Yoo Inna but damn, this will be my last drama of this writer-nim. All of the actors and actresses of this drama are so awesome, we have the veterans like Kim Kapsoo, Lee Misuk, Kim Yongrim and even the child actress, Kim Hwanhee but the real enemy of this drama is indeed the writer-nim.

Jung Yookyung writer-nim, you've wasted all the great talents in this drama.
even your last weekend drama also not doing so good in terms of ratings... /sigh

then again, I have to give credit to the whole production team and the actors and actresses that no matter what, they still succeed in finishing off this drama. Good job everyone! and thanks for giving the opportunity to IU so that she can show her talent as an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  97. LOL Gosh thats exactly why I can never watch any turkish drama, like the story starts out great but then it just gets dragged on and on and on and more unncesesarry events happen so I get frustrated and just ragequit watching them.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I wanna know what drama I should watch next after IHYV, it was just so good everything else I try now seems shetty

    ReplyDelete
  99. Gakistal was so good, every episode was interesting. Baker king Kim tak gu was another good one with many eps.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wait, how can the writer not develop a story when tey have like 50 eps. To do so!? I was going to watch when it ended for jo jung suk, yoo in na and IU but with these comments, i think ill pass... I get all sour whn great actors are treated poorly by the scripwriter who wants to waste their talent with half assed stories u.u

    ReplyDelete
  101. I read re-caps and bored outta my minds alr. IU was decent, but scriptwriter person...pls pls pls I beg of you, find a new occupation.

    ReplyDelete
  102. i was talking about the mexican version , since is the most known , in the rest of latin a
but i saw the rebelde way movie ;(
and OMG !!! floricienta ( everybody started to wear her shoes )

    ReplyDelete
  103. stopped at 35,it was not that good.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I've watched many 50eps dramas but often had to skip cos the story was dragging too much, except for : Unexpected you, which if you ever wanna try has a great pace, no stretching of mysteries and many pairings and characters growing up with touching moments and funny stuff related to typical Korean culture :) The speed of the story was as fast as for a typical 20eps drama yet they extended the drama and it kept getting better. A true exception^^

    ReplyDelete
  105. This drama sucked pretty hard, YET it had 30% as ratings just because of its airing time (Korean prime time: 8pm in the weekend, if I'm not wrong). That's pretty unfair, when I think of (sometimes cable) dramas that are of better quality and that are shorter but go unnoticed because of their airing time and channel they're on. It's just sad. If at least the ajummas who "watch" (while doing chores and stuff) the weekend shows would stop if the show sucked, instead of sticking with it, the show wouldn't get ratings it doesn't deserve :/ at least the scriptwriter will now be avoided :p

    ReplyDelete
  106. i watched from beginning till the end just for the supporting act like hye sin- jin uk the baker guy, yoo shin- chan wu, and chanmi-manager jo. I feel no chemistry at all between IU and presiden Shin.

    ReplyDelete
  107. actually it makes sense to these kinda of dramas. It's just that the scriptwriter for Lee song shin was a bit lacking. I've watched the drama and I'm almost at episode 40 but they've been dragging the story too long now. They still haven't resolved one issue and it;as already been 30+ episodes. A fine example of a drama with lots of episodes(30) is Kim Tak Gu. That drama was intense from start to end. Sitcoms also reach more than 100 episodes but they never drag nor bore. A great example is High Kick. It;s one of the best sitcoms I've seen. It's so good sometimes that some of the story elements they have in the show is almost better than most kdramas. I recommend watching those two, especially High Kick if you;re into funny, dramatic shows(it has all). Kim Tak Gu is greatly recommended for a Kdrama.

    ReplyDelete
  108. and Big right?

    ReplyDelete
  109. LOL For some reason I watched the entire series, but there's not a single episode where it took me more than 10 minutes to watch. I would literally skim through the episodes...It was okay, not 50-episodes worth though...And I agree, terrible ending.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I will probably quit watching it...some animes go on for a few seasons and I have stopped watching fairy tail LOL

    ReplyDelete
  111. *cough* fashion king *cough*

    ReplyDelete
  112. I never watched it after a few eps..lol

    ReplyDelete
  113. Secret Garden still has one of my favorite endings, cause although it was a happy ending the mom was still a bitch and the other characters didn't do a complete 180 personality change.

    ReplyDelete
  114. if the show was only focused on the character of Lee Soon Shin and not every single person and there family that came into contact with Lee Soon Shin 16 episodes would have done the trick.

BUT, Because it's a family weekend drama they had to tell everyone's story. It made the episodes feel reeaalllly long. i ended up FF through to the story lines i liked best.

    ReplyDelete
  115. they are ready for the cliches. it's just that the way that they(scriptwriters) speed through the ending was really lack luster.

    ReplyDelete
  116. i bet if you put all of IU and Jo Jung Seok's parts together it would only come out to about 16 episodes worth of footage. Somewhere during the show it went from "Lee Soon Shin is the Best" to"Lee Soon Shin's Family and Friends".

    ReplyDelete
  117. any links to subbed dramas?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Lol I like watching some k-dramas that are a little over 100 episodes, like My Daughter The Flower or Bride of the Sun but after reading the comments from this article I wouldn't watch this even if it only has half the number of episodes...

    ReplyDelete
  119. omg I hated the ending of Big. I just liushdlciasuhdlicuhluh

    ReplyDelete
  120. Just read the news that Sung-hoon will be starring in new drama, "Passionate Love (열애)" ... Seohyun will in the drama too

    http://www.unionpress.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=218685

    ReplyDelete
  121. ooo, i'm not a fan of Seohyun, but if the plot is good I'll give it a go. Thanks for posting! I didn't watch Iris II or I Do I Do lol, but I hope Im Soo-hyang will star in a new drama soon

  122. I watched like the first episode of Iris II, was bad and hate the plot of I Do I Do... so I didn't watch. Hopefully will get to see her in a good drama soon.

Maybe I'll give Passionate Love a try. The female lead "Choi Yoon Young" is the one who has a love-line with Lee Jong-suk in the movie, "As One (Korea)".

  125. Just don't watch any rom-com ?

You should watch dramas like White Christmas, 49 days, Bridal Mask, Heartless City...

If you like japanese dramas just watch Kaseifu no mita (or Kazoku Game in the same type), Maou, W no Higeki, Soredemo Ikite Yuku
Or maybe that's not your type.

  127. Really ? White Christmas is amazing. It's short (8 episodes) but I DEFINITELY recommand it. :) I'm pretty sure you haven't seen it yet because if you did you will remember it for sure.
