[Instiz] Interesting idol casting stories

Instiz: Collection of interesting idol casting stories

A Pink's Eunji: She attended a vocal academy before her director recommended that she audition for A Pink. She got in on first try and debuted two months later.

Jessica and Krystal: SM tried to cast Krystal at first but her parents felt that she was too young and declined. They instead recommended Jessica so Jessica joined SM first, then was followed by Krystal once she got older.

SHINee Minho:
An SM manager tried to cast him at a ski resort but Minho declined. He kept following Minho around only to be denied again. The manager then spotted Minho walking home from school and gave him another casting offer. Minho declined. Manager kept following and offering anyway again until Minho finally accepted.

MBLAQ GO: He placed second at a singing competition and was shocked when he found out that the first place winner was someone younger than him. He dropped out of school to focus on his singing before finally debuting as MBLAQ. The first place winner ended up being SNSD's Taeyeon.

EXO-K Sehun: He was eating ddukbokgi at a street food stand when a casting manager approached him. Sehun got scared and thought the person was weird so he ran away. Manager persisted and chased him down for 30 minutes before finally persuading and casting him.

Sunny: She was originally a trainee in a different agency. Her group disbanded before they got to debut so Sunny kind of floated around before she auditioned for SM and got accepted. Ended up being Lee Soo Man's niece.

2PM Wooyoung: He wasn't really given much attention when he originally auditioned for a Wonder Girls' audition. Ended up winning #1 at another public audition and debuting with 2PM.

Tiffany: She was cast while standing in front of a bathroom at a Korean festival.

VIXX Hongbin:
He decided to become a singer after watching a non-celebrity perform at a singing competition. After he auditioned and joined a company, he ended up debuting in the same group as that non-celebrity he first saw (VIXX's Ken).

TVXQ Changmin:
SM's casting manager waited for Changmin outside of his school every day after seeing him play badminton during phys ed class. He was so persistent that Changmin told his mom. His mom was a BoA fan so she took Changmin to an SM audition because she wanted to see BoA. Changmin passed the audition and debuted with TVXQ.

EXO-K Baekhyun: Baekhyun initially gave up auditioning because he failed all of them and began preparing for music college instead. While clearing his throat and practicing outside of his practical exam room, he was cast by an SM manager.

Super Junior Kangin:
He was cast while riding an elephant train at an amusement park.

INFINITE Sunggyu: After graduating from high school, he left home for Seoul to become a singer. He lived alone and worked several part time jobs, one of them being at a cafe. His cafe manager mentioned to a customer that Sunggyu was preparing to become a singer. The customer asked Sunggyu who his favorite singer was and he replied that it was Nell. The customer ended up being Nell's manager and offered him a chance to audition at the company. Sunggyu obviously passed and debuted with INFINITE.

Seohyun: She was cast by an SM manager while riding the subway when she was an elementary school student.

B2ST Doojoon: He was originally preparing for admission into an athletics college but changed paths to become a singer when he saw a Big Bang documentary at home while in his underwear and eating pork cutlets. He became a JYP trainee when he placed 3rd at a public audition. Joined the survival 'Hot Blood' program and almost became a member of 2AM before being eliminated. Left JYP to join Cube and got a fresh start as a member of B2ST, the same group as Hyunseung, a previous member of the same Big Bang documentary he watched.

SHINee Jonghyun: SM originally cast him for his handsome looks when he was a bassist for a band. Ended up becoming SHINee's main vocalist.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "Super Junior Kangin: He was cast while riding an elephant train at an amusement park."

    LOL that's so random.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sehun got scared and thought the person was weird so he ran away.

    Smart kid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. woo for wonder girls? how did that happen, was that supposed to mean that wonder girls is supposedly a boy girl group? lol, didn't understand at all :))

    ReplyDelete
  12. now k-netizens do you understand why krystal wants to quit?! she was casted...she didn't decide on her own path!! so please stop with the bashing and saying she's an attention whore~

    ReplyDelete
  13. EunJi's story will always amaze me, she wasn't even trying to be an idol and yet now she the most popular one within Apink & a decent actress.

SM casting managers are beyond creepy though, but their persistence paid off.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "2PM Wooyoung: He wasn't really given much attention when he originally auditioned for a Wonder Girls' audition." WHAT?

    Am I missing something here?

  17. it seems like sm casting managers are good athletes since they chase the people they wanna cast~~

    ReplyDelete
  18. So SM basically just stalks attractive people lol poor Minho

    ReplyDelete
  19. if she didn't enjoy from the beginning, it's better she didn't debut

I think from this we've gathered staff at SM are creepy.

  21. Some SM casting managers are creepers ^^;
    Especially Minho and Changmin lol

"Seohyun: She was cast by an SM manager while riding the subway when she was an elementary school student."

SM's motto, "Get 'em while they're young".

    ReplyDelete
  25. doojoon's is oddly specific LOL

    ReplyDelete
  26. TVXQ Changmin: SM's casting manager waited for Changmin outside of his school every day after seeing him play badminton during phys ed class.

Nah mate this is just pushing it, this shit is just creepy SM NO!

    ReplyDelete
  27. lol SM random street casting stories made it obvious that they go for looks first

"B2ST Doojoon: He was originally preparing for admission into an athletics college but changed paths to become a singer when he saw a Big Bang documentary at home while in his underwear and eating pork cutlets."

I am laughing so hard. The detail omg

    ReplyDelete
  29. lol no, SM groups are mostly by age

    ReplyDelete
  30. well she was tooo young to decide her own path and say that she would quit~ i mean if i had the chance to decide things on my own when i was young....school would be the first thing i would quit!

    ReplyDelete
  31. He does look cute in wig

    ReplyDelete
  32. i don't know whether to laugh or cry at sm casting stories. in front of bathrooms? elephant trains? stalker/recruiters?

    ReplyDelete

    well looks like I'm embarrassed....

    ReplyDelete
  35. Out of everyone in the list. Doojoon story sounds like he really struggled and worked his butt off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. so random yet the most successful, life is not fairrr

    ReplyDelete
  37. too bad sm managers ran faster than him

    ReplyDelete
  38. hot blood men alone says it all. after going all thru that and just be eliminated.

    ReplyDelete
  39. omg that sounds like produce or meat at a market.

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL
SM casting stalkers xD Poor baby Minho T-T Sehun & Changmin too LOL

    ReplyDelete
  41. krystal is too young for her age
she could give more complaint than it's now lol if she debuted too young lol

    ReplyDelete
  42. not sure if it's an impressive talent or just dumb luck that a lot of their street-casted idols ended up being really talented lmao

    ReplyDelete
  43. laugh so much at Tiffany's story!lol!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Beast were seriously meant to be together, lol. Dujun and Hyunseung is just one example.

Yoseob only auditioned for Cube bc Gikwang thought of him first and called him when Hong CEO brought him from JYP.

Yoseob used to be part of M-Boat when it was sister company to YG and called Hyunseung who was floating around with a dance crew post-YG.

    ReplyDelete
  45. nobody forced her to be an idol tho. she could have walked away as a trainee (as costly as it would have been). she did choose her own path in some aspect. while i do think krys doesn't deserve criticism since idol life looks really stressful/awful working conditions.... to completely say krystal didn't understand what she was doing or making her own choices to an extent (i'm sure she might have been pressured by family possibly?) is kinda insulting to her intelligence tbh

    ReplyDelete
  46. cubeenterollmentJune 13, 2013 at 4:18 PM

    we made him feel welcome~

    ReplyDelete
  47. "while in his underwear and eating pork cutlets."
    okay

    ReplyDelete
  48. she debut when she was 14 yeah sure she know how celebrites's lives would be like and have her own choice?
If she didn't enjoy acting/singing and love her member I'm sure she would have quitted

    ReplyDelete
  49. her opinions and views could change many more times in the next few years for all we know. i mean, it was only 2-3 years ago that almost every seohyun article you read was of her being lonely or sad or dejected or wanting to quit the idol life. now she seems much more comfortable. imo, if krystal is just saying this to create an image for herself then she needs to stop (she sounds stupid and stuck-up) but if she truly thinks like that then she should discuss things with her parents and agency.

    ReplyDelete
  50. G.O's story is funny! XDD he must have felt really frustrated, but I wonder if he is now friend with Taeyon!
wait wooyoung joined WG's audition? ._. a guy in a girls audition? xD
SM managers are pretty persistents uh xD
should have added Suzy who like Tiffany got casted near the bathroom lol
xD baekhyun lol just like love, casting happen right when you except it the less!
Seohyun's story sounds like a pedo bear fantasy and reminds me how the new member of T-ara was scouted. At that age, what potential could he have seen in her?? It sounds so wrong!
Doojoon would have been a great athlete.
Jonhyun's fans should have gifted him a new bass not drums!

    ReplyDelete
  51. cubeenterollmentJune 13, 2013 at 4:19 PM

apink has one of those rare chances of becoming a top girl group in the future so eunji was very lucky to be excepted~

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wasn't Suzy casted in front of a bathroom?

    ReplyDelete
  53. lol holy crap. dem SM casting managers though....

    ReplyDelete
  54. she knew she was not ready from the beginning

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yep, the JYP rep made her audtition in the bathroom

    ReplyDelete
  56. Who the hell says "Get 'em while they're young" to some meat?

    ReplyDelete
  57. SM's recruitment tactics: stranger danger or the chance to become a superstar?

    ReplyDelete
  58. actually, g.o. and taeyeon are good friends ^^

    ReplyDelete
  59. lmao Sehun's story will never get old. Good boy always listens what mommy taught about talking to strangers

    ReplyDelete
  60. lol that's so specific "while in his underwear and eating pork cutlets"

    ReplyDelete
  61. lol imagine if your job was chasing strangers around

    ReplyDelete
  62. "SHINee Minho: An SM manager tried to cast him at a ski resort but
Minho declined. He kept following Minho around only to be denied again.
The manager then spotted Minho walking home from school and gave him
another casting offer. Minho declined. Manager kept following and
offering anyway again until Minho finally accepted. "

EXO-K Sehun: He was eating ddukbokgi at a street food stand when a
casting manager approached him. Sehun got scared and thought the person
was weird so he ran away. Manager persisted and chased him down for 30
minutes before finally persuading and casting him.

    That's harassment...

    ReplyDelete
  63. she also got scared and ran away with her cousin but the manager told her he wasn't a weird person and gave her his business card lol

    ReplyDelete
  64. OMG thank you ! best laugh ever !!!!
SM's castings are seriously the best lol xD
i was litterally crying while reading the stories, especially Minho's, Sehun's and Kangin's stories !

SHINee Minho: An SM manager tried to cast him at a ski resort but Minho declined. He kept following Minho around only to be denied again. The manager then spotted Minho walking home from school and gave him another casting offer. Minho declined. Manager kept following and offering anyway again until Minho finally accepted.

EXO-K Sehun: He was eating ddukbokgi at a street food stand when a casting manager approached him. Sehun got scared and thought the person was weird so he ran away. Manager persisted and chased him down for 30 minutes before finally persuading and casting him.

Super Junior Kangin: He was cast while riding an elephant train at an amusement park.

    This made my day ^o^

    ReplyDelete
  65. AN stories are really one of a kind. XD Like lions on the hunt for fresh meat.

    ReplyDelete
  66. no idol is comfortable with the fame in "korea" since k-netizens will comment even about whether you breathed through your mouth or nose!!! in my opinion i think k-netizens make idols suffer a lot to the point that they think any step they take may be wrong~

    ReplyDelete
  67. He told this story in an ep of SH. :D

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think I like people like Sungyu's story more. He really gave his all in chasing his dreams and it paid off in the end. ^__^

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Jung casting story creeps me out though. Jessica joined SM when she was 11... WHICH MEANS THEY TRIED TO CAST KRYSTAL WHEN SHE WAS FIVE.
Can you imagine like ahjussis in suits giving business cards to a five year old? Creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's so funny that there are people who don't have a dream to be a singer yet they get in, while others who work hard from sacrificing childhood don't get in.
I'm looking at you Jokwon, Jay Park...

    ReplyDelete
  71. i meant the "get em while they're..." part =_=

    ReplyDelete
  72. 2013 TREND: shitty songsJune 13, 2013 at 4:29 PM

all SM main vocalists were chosen because of their looks first ....so sm stan stop bitching about "oppa was casted because he is talented "

    ReplyDelete
  73. If a trainee is suck or has problem, then they kick him out. Many SM trainees left SM and couldn't debut.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Omg SM is creepy... Can you imagine all the kids being followed around by people? Woah...

    ReplyDelete
  75. she never explicitly said that she dislikes her job, though. she was talking about the aspects of idol life that she didn't like. it doesn't seem like she's going to quit performing anytime soon

    ReplyDelete
  76. "He decided to become a singer after watching a non-celebrity perform at a singing competition. After he auditioned and joined a company, he ended up debuting in the same group as that non-celebrity he first saw (VIXX's Ken)."

    I didn't know about that. That's awesome~

    ReplyDelete
  77. Why creepy? SM has child actors too

    ReplyDelete
  78. imo she's not ready to be in celebrity life

she doesn't want to be criticized, judge, haters etc

she should stop speaking up and spoiled if she doesn't want to get more criticism

it's sensitive issue, she should disscuss with her parents and management

    she's too childish

    ReplyDelete
  79. Maybe they wanted her to be like BoA and debut at a young age?

    ReplyDelete
  80. sigh she was 14 when she debuted, not counting the years she was in training
How much do you know when you are 10 or 12?
Plus she didn't know how idol life would be until she experienced it
Put yourself in her shoes and think first
She didn't decided to join SM her parents did
Just like how your parent put you in school, you can't you which school or know the life style there until you are in it

    ReplyDelete
  81. Nothing can beat the story of how T-ara's Dani got casted.

    ReplyDelete
  82. she loves her dancing and singing as well as her members
But that doesn't mean she have to like idol lives
Girl is honest, real and brave. It's hard to find girl like her in Kpop tbh

    ReplyDelete
  83. Those people of SM asked jessica first where was their parent. They didn't give their bussiness card directly to krystal.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I love Hongbin's and Doojoon's stories, they ended up being in a group with the people that inspired them.

    ReplyDelete
  85. It's not much different from some of these (like Seohyun's)

    ReplyDelete
  86. True, but I think it's how KKS described the situation that makes it creepy. "I was driving in my car and I saw her in the streets. I couldn't get her out of my mind so I turned my car around"

    ReplyDelete
  87. she doesn't want to quit lmao.. she just said some things that she didn't like about idol life. and let's be honest, not everyone is going to like everything about their job

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well if you ignore the random SM castings, most sound like there was some sort of effort involved.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I would have enjoyed that. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  90. Casted doesn't mean he was chosen to be in a group 100%. He still needs to audition then train & go under tests until they agree he can be in a group.
Casted in a group because he is talented =/= casted from street for his look.

    ReplyDelete
  91. some of them are seriously so lucky lmao. some of these are kinda ironic and lucky at the same time (doojoon, hongbin), and some of these are kinda creepy (sehun, changmin, minho).

    ReplyDelete
  92. So I guess one important factor in choosing a manager for SM would be that, they have to be fast runners. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  93. She came out in a Shinhwa MV at the age of 5. They probablt wanted her to debut as an actress

    ReplyDelete
  94. SM always cast people for looks...but can they get any creepier??
following kids around and approaching them at the weirdest times? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tbh I've always liked how sunny shies away from mentioning her connection to Lee Soo Man... The fact that she initially signed with a relatively small company when she could have called in family favors, and that when she auditioned at SM, she used a stage name and got in without people knowing who she was.... I've always respected her for that

    ReplyDelete
  96. My cousin who resembles Chan Yeol from EXO also once got offer from SM on the street but he rejected. When I heard it I was like "WTF? You could be an idol star and I could see SHINee!!!" But he doesn't have any interest in entertainment industry and only loves to play computer games -_-

    ReplyDelete
  97. THIS SO MUCH LOL i wonder how annoying was that manager following minho lol

    ReplyDelete
  98. SM find looks first
they are trained to be entertainment not only singer

    ReplyDelete
  99. I cried as hard as they did throughout the whole show, especially the one where they cut him and Jinwoon.

    ReplyDelete
  100. One thing i'm curious until now, when was krystal started her training days at SM?

And i ever heard GD was once SM's trainee, was it true?

    ReplyDelete
  101. SM hires Stage 5 Clingers for Casting Managers.

    ReplyDelete
  102. lmao, also just remembered this gem about how Wonder Girls managed to debut from Beast's Win Win episode...

JYP had an internal competition for the trainee groups and it was supposed to be Vocally Talented Group vs Visual Group (all of them boys, mind you) and with no warning, five girl trainees performed too and won the whole thing HAHAHA

Wonder Girls kicking ass even pre-debut

    ReplyDelete
  103. SM casting managers are bloodly creepy

    ReplyDelete
  104. same with 2ne1 dear, they suck at singing but are great performances, shut up

    ReplyDelete
  105. wooyoung really did

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmvzls_eng-sub-night-after-night-show-with-2pm-2am-3-5_shortfilms#.UbovEeeQQRc

    ReplyDelete
  106. I auditioned for SM, but found out today that I didn't make it :(

    ReplyDelete
  107. she's too spoiled and childish

    ReplyDelete
  108. krystal waited till 2005~2006 if i'm not mistaken, jessica joined SM in 2000

    ReplyDelete
  109. Aww it's okay!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. SM manager cast their trainee based on looks... luckily some of them are truly can sing... (but obviously there are some who are just *sigh* at least you're handsome/pretty!! ^^)

    ReplyDelete
  111. what I wanna know is how they can tell which kids will grow up to be good-looking? aren't all kids cute at some point? or is there some sort of face science going on where it's like "ohp you're cute now but your looks will peak when u r 10 and then it's all downhill from there" bc i'd really like to know. even tho it's too late for my own sake. jk

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think they get paid according to the quality of trainees they bring in to SM. So when they see a promising talent(Idol looks), they go all out to get them to audition for SM.
I remember Siwon was casted in front of his middle school and when he went for the audition, all he did was just shake his body a little(Not even dancing or singing) and he was accepted into SM.
Heechul's case is quite interesting too. He was late for the audition, and the casting team told him to go home. But when Heechul showed his FACE, the casting managers were kind of impressed at his visuals and gave him a chance. He ended up singing Korea's National Anthem though cos he wasn't prepared at all lol

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yes, GD was an SM trainee for 5 years. He talked about it on 'Thank You' but it is the info that is known about GD, not new..

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yes he was but then decided to leave... he was younger than 12 at that time x)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Imagine being a parent and an adult stranger comes over to you and says "excuse me, but I was watching your five year old and I like the look of that kid.... Let's talk business"

    ReplyDelete
  116. Imagine an episode of To Catch A Predator...

[SM Manager follows child into a house]

Chris Hansen: Why don't you have a seat over there? So what are you up to today?

SM Manager: See...ummm...I just like the way the child looked...and thought they'd be great for an idol group, that's all, I swear!!!

    Chris Hansen: Mmmhmmm...

[SM Manager leaves, gets taken down by an overzealous police officer in a ghillie suit]

    ReplyDelete
  117. I'm planning on doing the Youth Star Auditions this summer, and auditioning for JYP as, but their auditions are really all over the place at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Casting =/= debuting.. People go months, years of training and several reevaluations to debut.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I dont think that is how Dani got casted, after the whole Christ Brown thing, I alway think that KKS casted her because of her relationship with him

    ReplyDelete
  120. So what? As soon as he says he is from SM, I will accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  121. OMG! What a script.. lol

    ReplyDelete
  122. imo...most of us would have no chance of making it into SM,60% looks 40% talent but that 40% can be quite big..

    ReplyDelete
  123. Try other companies like CUBE, STARSHIP, LOEN and so on!! The big 3 take in a lot of trainees but most of them are dropped!! you have a greater chance to debut under a smaller company ;)

    Good LUCK!! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  124. That could be true. Their extent of persistence is on creepy level. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I fear for your child.

    ReplyDelete
  126. May the best stalker win ^^

    ReplyDelete
  127. Its not creepy if you make it sound creepy. How else do child actors get casted in the world?

    ReplyDelete
  128. I have read about Sunggyu's history about his audition like a lot, nothing surprises, and I even have more info LOL

    ReplyDelete
  129. the bigger the company, the higher the expectations....and they do not do the 2 year debut thing either..they put you behind the door for a long time before debuting

    ReplyDelete
  130. Super Junior Kangin: He was cast while riding an elephant train at an amusement park.
    I couldn't stop laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hahaha Changmin's story is cute. His mom only took him to auditions because she wanted to catch a glimpse of BOA.

And while SM's casting methods are sketch for sure, keep in mind they look out for child actors as well and don't decide off the bat the kid is going to be an idol.

    ReplyDelete
  132. lol well in order to get peoples attention, sometimes you have to do crazy and creative things.

    ReplyDelete
  133. i can't imagine if she's in SNSD she's gonna complain 24/7 and SNSD members getting annoyed by her

    ReplyDelete
  134. I really want to audition for Loen and Starship. Not so much Cube because the sexy image isn't really my thing. I also want to Audition for Woolim, but you have to live in Korea to audition for them. Also I can't get to Korea to audition for Loen and Starship. :(

    ReplyDelete
  135. B2ST Doojoon and Hyunseung's stories proves the phrase ''everything happens for a reason''!
    Fate..

    ReplyDelete
  136. YES! he wa there for 5 years, but he only go like once every week, or something like that he get really sick of it becuz he did not see anything moving, so he left he was really disapointed and did not wanted to be an artist againg, but then YG saw him in a MV and call his mom ( he was 11)

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't know what's funnier, these stories or the comments here on NB. We need more articles like this!

    ReplyDelete
  138. BoA's brother auditioned for SM and she got cast.
Then he became a film director, he made Only One, The Shadow, Disturbance...

  139. http://x-clusive.sg/2012/05/06/cube-exclusive/ you should read this about Cube though. it's an exclusive interview with one of the executives.

and tbh, if you see their debuted trainees, you'd know it's not about image or visuals (lol I love BtoB but they have Minhyuk and Sungjae and that's it). they only push that onto Hyuna bc she's really good at it.

  140. Wait, why were "Woner Girls" supposed to be boys? xD

    ReplyDelete
  141. Admittedly, I still don't know whether to feel pressed or happy about Eunji's situation, given that she replaced a member the rest of the girls had been training with and held dear only /two/ months before their joined debut and on top of that, has become the most popular member with a 4d wall between her and the others with ease...
I remember her saying in an interview that she was scared the girls would reject her (relatable of course) and that she was ready to throw a bitchfit if they did lol

LOL someone hasn't done their research. Tiffany wasn't just chilling outside a bathroom and got scouted. She sang during that festival and an SME scount who was there asked her if she'd sing in SM's global singing competition and she said and ended up coming first place, then she was offered a contract with SME.

    ReplyDelete
  145. it was a blessing tbh. the public recognizes her and her continued relevance on the music charts + an actress is pretty much the only thing ensuring Apink have some form of success when they return. And Naeun too, in a smaller way.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I am crying now. Maybe the creepy guy in sunglasses that followed me the other day was trying to cast me...why did I have to run away? D:

    ReplyDelete
  147. Are you guys going to film it and put it on youtube?

    ReplyDelete
  148. lol, the boys certainly thought so.

    ReplyDelete
  149. S the bottom line in all this is that sm managers are stalkery and creepy. But have amazing luck.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Is Hongbin's story really true? Sounds cool.

    ReplyDelete
  151. disqus_kmJLXWT6FnJune 13, 2013 at 5:16 PM

Yeah cause Tiffany being asked to sing in SM's global auditions after being scouted singing at Korean festival and wining, then moving to Korea at 15 without her parents or family was such an easy thing to do.

Don't assume just cause people were asked to audition or casted they didn't struggle.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't think it's good to bother good looking kids on street and cast them that way if there are more talented singers running around from one audition to another and only losing in looks, but I like most of the idols mentioned above so I guess it all depends on fate? :P

  153. B2ST is a group that was truly meant to be together
    Doojoon-almost 2AM member
    Hyunseung-almost Big Bang member
Junhyung-member of disband group xing w/ukiss Kevin
    Yoseob-kikwangs ex back up dancer
Kikwang- was supposed to be in a group with jokwon in jyp but went solo under cube, then joined beast.
    Dongwoon-almost 2PM member

  154. LOL! Wooyoung xD !

    ReplyDelete
  155. What I'm worried about is her overshadowing the others' efforts and achievements, A Cube pulling a Miss A and promoting excessively only her until she's the next Suzy and her letting her popularity get to her head. Negl I feel as though partly all of those three already apply.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I don't know what your nationality is, but esp. Cube has quite a lot of foreign trainees, so you might have a bigger chance (if you are a foreigner that is^^)

    ReplyDelete
  157. He definitely was going to get noticed that way.

    ReplyDelete
  158. lulz
What if I say I'm from SM?

    ReplyDelete
  159. I think they're starting to focus on Naeun recently (photoshoots, WGM). They just needed to push Eunji to have some income and recognition I guess...

    ReplyDelete
  160. Look for double eyelid, perfect v line, straight nos, etc etc

    ReplyDelete
  161. omg these SM casting managers sound like stalkers

    ReplyDelete
  162. don't forget that the members successfully stopped Junhyung from being kicked out of the company as a trainee. it shows that their friendship was strong even before they debuted :)

    ReplyDelete
  163. It looks like A Cube are pushing Eunji as their cash cow to make up for the loss they caused with their failed marketing strategy (or whatever else was the cause for a /rookie group/ to take a goddamn /one year hiatus/ right when they were starting to crawl up the ladder to success with a more than satisfactory debut year, smdh)

    ReplyDelete
  164. tbh, that's not really true. Pre-debut, Naeun was the most known to the public bc of her being "Beast's princess" + she was in a cable drama that rated even higher than Reply 1997 and she's gaining mainstream popularity on WGM. People talk about her every week.

I think that ACube is playing this like 4minute where they excessively promoted Hyunah before her success finally solidified and they allowed the others to have sub-units (2Yoon), Gayoon having solo photoshoots in magazines every month, Jihyun in variety + dramas, etc.

I'd like to see them promote Namjoo more because bb girl can sing + she's cute as a button + fantastic dancer.

Tons of models and even actor/actresses are casted in the same way. It's not creepy as some are making out. Looks do play a part in it but at the same time all of these people still had to audition and train for years in order to make the cut after being casted.

    ReplyDelete
  166. HAHA YALLL R JUST TOOO FUNNY ON THIS SITE

    ReplyDelete
  167. Sehun and the other boys must be laughing now because he was so scared of the manager. LOL.

Didn't know that there have been so many interesting stories about how idols were cast.

    ReplyDelete
  168. exactly lol she's talked about this before and its known she sang in sm's global comp so pretty silly to act like someone was stalking her outside a bathroom when in fact someone heard her sing and liked what she sounded like so afterwards looked for her and asked her to come along and sing for sm.

    ReplyDelete
  169. it's good business sense to send Eunji out there as the representative of the group. and i would rather Apink be represented in the public by someone who has the public on the side more or less because it will generate more positive press for the group.

and let's be honest, Apink need that so badly right now especially if they continue to be dumb as hell and add that new member. fans will lash out.

    ReplyDelete
  170. To me it seems as though internationally, Eunji is definitely more recognized and nationally, Eunji and Naeun share the same spot somewhat? I've always had a hard time pin-pointing which out of the two is more known or popular in Korea tbh
I've seen various people say "who the hell is Naeun/are A Pink" when the WGM rumours came out while at the same time saying "Eunji is in a band? I thought she was a soloist!" or that they only cared about her and didn't even feel like bothering with the rest. That and that she is the only worthy one in A Pink and the rest were all black holes. Hm.

I'd like to think the 4minute strategy in and for itself is pretty bullshit and that's something I would have forever held as a grudge against A Cube if 2yoon and Name is 4minute hadn't happened.

I agree with that! I can't wait for the others to get more spotlights, Namjoo specially. I like her singing a lot (even if not necessarily her timbre) and she's got enough variety skills imo. In fact, I want Bomi on variety more, too. Chorong needs to have more chances to show that she's the leader, Eunji often enough takes her position instead (which I highly disapprove of).

    ReplyDelete
  171. Of course I'll confirm is he really from SM =.=...
SM is one of the greatest companies.

    ReplyDelete
  172. out of all these, sunggyu turned out to be the luckiest
    kangin's just LOL

    ReplyDelete
  173. Well the moment they pull a Miss A, they might as well make her leave the group and let A Pink rot in A Cube's dungeons some more; it's not like her popularity has brought as much attention to A Pink as a whole as it should have.

    ReplyDelete
  174. disqus_kmJLXWT6FnJune 13, 2013 at 5:32 PM

they left a lot out though haha she was actually singing in a competition there and she came second. an am scout was there and went up and asked if she wanted to sing in sm's global casting and she came first. she then was offered to sign with them. she didn't just get into sm after being spotted in a bathroom lol

    ReplyDelete
  175. You don't have to. I didn't mean I will sell my child or something lol

    ReplyDelete
  176. lol so true look at Changmin soehyun and jonghyun for example some of the best voices in SM and idols in general

    ReplyDelete
  177. of course, people will always say that about nugus they can't be bothered to google. i always just refer them to Apink News and watch them shut up.

tbh, even if it's hard to take, i understand why Cube did what it did with 4minute. they did it with Beast too. for a long time (and even Beast acknowledges/jokes about this), Beast = Kikwang + Dujun (to a lesser extent). Kikwang had so many acting + variety roles under his belt and a lot of people talked shit but all of these things served to do only one thing in the end: make sure the public knows the group.

i believe just like how Hyorin got people talking about her group from her run on Immortal Song 2...Eunji and Naeun will take Apink to higher highs. I really do. Always look at the bigger picture.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Have patience. That's all I can tell you. Miracles do not happen overnight for girl groups from small companies. The fact that Apink has two popular members is already a gift in itself and rather than being bitter at Eunji for her perceived faults (for being popular? come now), I would rather thank her and pray she got even more popular so people will look forward to seeing her in her group.

If you're a fan of Naeun, you'd watch her in anything, right? Same thing for a fan of Eunji...they might start out as a fan of one and end up loving all six (or seven).

    ReplyDelete
  179. Kangin was cast riding his doppleganger, fine.

    ReplyDelete
  180. they have a software for it, actually. it was mentioned on that story for abc or nbc news

    ReplyDelete
  181. a bit correction..she participated n won CJ/KMTV singing competition and at the same time went through audition with SM (d bathroom story, she sang too at that festival but didn't win)...so basically, there are 2 companies trying to sign her at that time, and she chose SM coz of boa ^^

    ReplyDelete
  182. Well personally, unless I'm hardcore biased, I can't be bothered to check out everything the artists I'm a fan of do and even then if I don't like it, I won't watch it. But I see your point, albeit, I'm going to keep my further thoughts on this matter to myself as it doesn't seem like this place really shares my views.

    ReplyDelete
  183. BEWARE SM managers all around the place so if you want to get casted, always look like your best when in Korea.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I think for TVXQ back in 2003, the special one was Chang Min and Yoo Chun. Chang Min for being able to train and still be a straight-A's student and Yoo Chun, for being casted and train for only 6 months or so. Yoo Chun really has it easy, to the point where Jun Su (who had the longest training) hated him. And now, they can't get off each other's skin lmao.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Super Junior Kangin: He was cast while riding an elephant train at an amusement park.

    LMAO WHAT!?

    ReplyDelete
  186. :( Poor Wooyoung.

    Look at Seulong's face. Lololol

  189. Yup! ^_^ http://bigbangupdates.com/2010/01/big-bangs-g-dragon-was-sm-trainee-for-5.html

He went to a ski resort that Lee Sooman was holding some dance competition at when he was 8 and was recruited as a trainee.

"When I trained under SM, it wasn't a big company yet so instead of practicing every day, I would go once a month or once every 3 months. SM officials don't probably remember me anymore but I danced a lot. I wasn't handsome but I had a mischievous face and followed directions very well. There was even a time when I sat on the laps of Shinhwa members."

After about 5 years, he stopped being a trainee because he wasn't sure he wanted to be an idol anymore. When he was 13, Sean (from Jinusean) noticed him and told YG about him and became a trainee with YG and met his BFF, Taeyang. ^_^

  192. Um Tiffany wasn't casted outside a bathroom she got into sm because she got first place in their singing competition in 2004. An sm scout asked her if she wanted to sing in it after hearing her singing during another competition at a Korean festival.
