On May 14th, SECRET guested on SBS Power FM's "Choi Hwa Jung's Power Time". On the broadcast, Jun Hyosung made a statement that said, "We're a team that respects individuality so we don't democratize the group."

A clip of the statement has been spreading like wildfire online, as netizens are criticizing Hyosung for using the term 'democratization' in a negative way.

One netizen explained, "With the way she used it, she basically intended for democratization to mean that individuality is not respected."

Internet community 'Ilbe' has been using the term negatively and popularizing it with a different definition to mean 'to disappear', 'to demolish', or 'to cause a riot'. The community is notorious for using the word in a negative context.

Netizens are arguing that the context of her statement fits with Ilbe's use of the term and are disappointed with her lack of history and political knowledge.

TS Entertainment clarified that Hyosung used the word without knowing what it meant.

-

1. [+1,089, -276] If she wanted to use the term correctly, she should've said, "We're a team that respects individuality. We're democratic."

2. [+957, -258] How could you not know what democratization means????? So if having no individuality and no freedom means you're democratic, is having individuality a dictatorship??? This goes beyond just being stupid...

3. [+770, -178] She was probably looking to use the word 'standardization'...

4. [+280, -78] Whether or not Hyosung is actually an Ilbe user does not matter... but to have used the exact statement that Ilbe users use to put down democratization just showed the entire world how stupid she is.

5. [+253, -60] Is she crazy... That is the exact statement Ilbe users use... If you don't know what a word means, don't use it;;; How does that clarification even make sense? Wow, I'm so pissed off with her

-

1. [+1,150, -158] Hyosung, are you an Ilbe user?

2. [+1,053, -113] How often did she say such a thing that it comes out so naturally like that? tsk tsk SECRET are now Ilbe goddesses from here on out

3. [+918, -153] Even if there's the slightest chance that she really didn't know about Ilbe, the negative context of how she used the word is unforgivable. I fully believe that she reads the Ilbe boards... She's on DC Gallery a lot, why not Ilbe?

4. [+780, -316] So she's an Ilbe goddess now ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Well, looks like your career is over, so long~

5. [+500, -59] Ilbe's going to be loving Hyosung now ㅋㅋㅋ Ilbe goddess Hyosung, praise her~~

1. [+817, -228] The first idol group member to come out as an Ilbe user

2. [+762, -266] Are you on Ilbe?

3. [+711, -324] Her career has been trashed overnight after it being revealed that she's an Ilbe user

4. [+171, -85] The goddess of Ilbe ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ

5. [+158, -100] Makes me sick to think she reads the Ilbe boards and giggles at their trash. Crazy b*tch.

6. [+157, -94] I really loved SECRET but I can't get over my disappointment and anger in her over her democratization statement. Exactly what kind of brain do you need to have to be able to use that word in such a negative context? If you hate democratization, get out of Korea. Having no brain is not an excuse.

7. [+144, -82] Cannot believe Jun Hyosung was ilbe trash all along...

8. [+133, -80] Farewell, Hyosung. Why the fu*k would you read a board full of idiots like Ilbe and parrot their words on broadcast... You have proven once again that there are such a variety of ways to prove how stupid people just are

Article: Jun Hyosung officially apologizes for 'democratization' statement... "I am reflecting over my misuse of the term"

Source: Sports Donga via Naver

1. [+4,088, -692] A woman on ilbe.... Ilbe users are people that fully believe that women need to be beat once every three days to function

2. [+3,813, -492] I saw the broadcast and it seemed she knew the exact context she was using the word in... I think it's too late for her.

3. [+3,554, -447] Exactly in which country do they use the term democratization in a negative context?

4. [+2,583, -410] Absolutely empty in that head of yours... Pathetic...

5. [+2,508, -495] All aboard the T-ara train

6. [+2,093, -269] Hyosung should've been more careful... You go anywhere and say that you read Ilbe and you're treated like human trash. She's going to get a lot of antis out of this.

  1. I hope she doesn't read Ilbe. They're not kidding at all, it really is a nasty board full of hate and close-minded bigots. I like Hyosung, so I don't want to think she's the kind of person who shares Ilbe views.

    ReplyDelete
  2. what's ilbe tho and why is it so bad..

    ReplyDelete
  3. Trololol and here we go , knew something "scandalous" about her was bound to come up with the increased amount of articles she was getting...

    ReplyDelete
  4. I've always seen previous posts showing how knets despise Ilbe. And I usually shrug it off as mere anticafes but seeing the reaction of knets over one incident... I'm confused whether to believe that Ilbes are really that despicable or these knets (not saying all) are just on the verge of overreacting. So which is it?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hmm, 4chan isn't that bad though. Unless you mean specifically the /b/ board?

    ReplyDelete
  6. aand let the hate begin~

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oops. Now netizens will forever label her as an Ilbe girl.

    ReplyDelete
  8. She still has a nice pair of tits. That counts for something.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Goodbye Hyosung you will forever be dubbed as a ilbe by k-netizens i don't even know what an ilbe is lol

    ReplyDelete
  10. "TS Entertainment clarified that Hyosung used the word without knowing what it meant."

How can she NOT know what Democratize means?

    ReplyDelete
  11. i guess libe is like 4chan. i remeber them getting hate from netziens for making fun of the singer from busker buskers death.

so associating with them is pretty shady in netziens eyes i guess.

    ReplyDelete

  13. Imagine Stormfront, /b/ and the worst parts of Reddit and you're looking at the kind of thing you can expect to see on Ilbe.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lol, in this case they had to choose exposing her either being stupid or risk getting labelled an ilbe, but it's all for naught, she's known an ilbe girl now....

    ReplyDelete
  15. I mean, "Democracy" is such a basic political term and if you went to school, I want to imagine that you learned at least this

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ilbe is where you can find all the trash netizens of Korea, racists, sexists, and scary people.. disgusting and dirty community, the shame of Korea. Thankfully, they don't represent Koreans but the facts that this community is allowed despite all malicious comments make many people worry, it seems like many influent people are from this community or in relation with Ilbe's netizens.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Is it me, or K-Netizens are just full of anger? They lash out cruelly at every single thing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is the other thing that knetizens are complaining that's why there are 2 reasons to fuel their hate and they just had to choose: 1) She's an Ilbe; or 2) She's stupid not to know the meaning of democratization. Either she's an Ilbe or just plain stupid.

I am not saying this as if it came from my mouth. Just summarizing. But to be honest, by reading the trans of her statement alone got me confused as to how she understands that word. And now TS would rather have her stupid than be an Ilbe.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The only online sites I camp at are Twitter and netbuzz (and I'm just doing this now) so I seriously seriously have no idea what those sites are. Gosh, I sound illiterate.. Hahahahaha >_<

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't think Ilbe is that bad, they got some funny shit up there, and tonns of good pictures of idols. It's like a Korean 4chan, or Japanese 2Chan.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would imagine she probably had a gist of the meaning, but probably she wanted to appear very "smart" (being leader and all) by using that word in her statements. The problem is, she used it in the wrong context, thus instead of making her appear intelligent and eloquent, she ends up looking dumb and getting on the bad side of the Korean netizens .

    ReplyDelete
  22. They hate everything. Maybe one day, they'll just pull out a person to get beaten up(This already happened to me when I was in high school).

    ReplyDelete
  23. Like a Korean version of 4chan/2chan, with patriot stuff, sexist and racist stuff, and pervy things. So basically just like 4chan...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Isn't Ilbe the site where some of the users made fun of Lim Yoon-taek & his widow after he died from stomach cancer? And where Hwang Min-woo's mom was subjected to a hate campaign?
I'm just curious, but is ilbe like 4chan, or like /b/?

    ReplyDelete
  25. To me it seems like every Korean netizen is a closer ilbe reader, they are always pressed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Stormfront is a white supremacy site, known for extreme racism and deliberately trying to incite hate crimes against people who are not white. /b/ is a chaotic, random part of 4chan but is best known for the hacking prowess of its members, its free and casual use of racist and homophobic speech and its occasional child porn. Reddit is a big site, but when I say "the worst parts", I mean the parts of it that not only post and defend child porn, but actively campaign for child porn to be legal, for the age of consent in America and other countries to be lowered, and harass and threaten women.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not to mention their bias against idols.

    ReplyDelete
  28. honestly i have no idea why anyone would associate themselves with something bad

    ReplyDelete
  29. okay, I understand that it's really a grave matter for knetizens but I don't think it's right for them to lash out on Hyosung just cos of a word. I'd rather have her hated cos she was caught red-handed on that site. People so quick to assume like they know everything. SMH.

    ReplyDelete
  30. oh hyosung I love you but sometimes your mouth shoots out nonsense I'm pretty sure she didn't know what that meant

    ReplyDelete
  31. There was also pictures of an Ilbe user sticking his penis in a dog, IMO, 4chan doesn't seem as bad as ilbe unless you're on /b/ or some other shit board then they might be on the same level. The travel board, animal/nature board, and technology board are pretty helpful actually.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ok now it does sound like /b/, but it doesn't make me hate her..

    ReplyDelete
  33. The guy was from ulala session. He was the leader and yes they basically said he faked having cancer to get attention

    ReplyDelete
  34. Are u kidding me... It is generally a horrendous site.

    ReplyDelete
  35. what is the /b/ board?
because I dont use 4chan, lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. [+2,508, -495] All aboard the T-ara train

Proof of by popularity: To being with, this article isnt about T-ara at all nor is related to them by any means but look at the crazy vote. Knetizens cant ignore them at all. (off topic)

Thought it was dumb of Hyosung to use that word without think twice but as long as she didnt mean any ill intention, should it be fine? Why are Knetizens so obsessed to bash idols/celebs? The word "dick" or "fuck" are profanities but depending on its use, it can be a praise well. For eg. He is dick but 'fucking' talented or the reason I like him is because he has that 'Dick' attitude. Not a Hyosung fan at all but ... Well, Knetizens never fail to surprise me. Each and every next thing is blown out of proportion. I really admire and respect all the celebs/idols of SK. What a hard life they have!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. K-Netizens act like they're all godly and pure of any sins, when their actions are in contradiction to that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Stormfront-White supremacy,Neo-Nazi internet site

/B/-a section in 4chan filled with morbid things such as gruesome pictures, racism, and pedophilia.

    Reddit-similar to 4chan in a sense.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yep, that's the same site. IMO, it's slightly worse than 4chan , imagine the usual k-nets comments on normal news articles, but on steroids...

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love her so much but sometimes she can be really stupid. And I do think that she doesn't know what she have said.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I HIGHLY doubt Hyosung is an ilbe user seeing as they hate most people
in general and especially celebs (think of the "lovely" people behind
doing things like humping a cardboard cutout of Suzy and sending it to
her on twitter or spamming the comment boards saying that Lim Yoon Taek
deserved to die after he passed away from cancer).

    I honestly
just think she is just not the brightest bulb. Given Korea's difficult
history in the past and their ilbe problems, I understand why they are
reacting like this but I really do think it was just a misunderstanding of the word on Hyosung's part and she didn't mean it
offensively. Poor girl, hang in there. Lord knows I said some stupid
    shit I misunderstood too.

    ReplyDelete
  42. aha get it now, thanks

    ReplyDelete
  43. The fact that she used the term means she's either an Ilbe user, or really ignorant... and neither go down well with knets, unfortunately. :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. "after it being revealed that she's an Ilbe user"

She wasn't even revealed to be an Ilbe user. They just assumed. And Hyosung has to suffer because of their impulsive assumptions.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I didn't see something like this coming.. many people have very busy schedule and are not very aware of what's going on in the society, but since she mentionned netizens reactions to her body change more than once, we know that she reads communities reactions, because Ilbe deals with idols too, it's so obvious that she knows this influent website and the way people express themselves. The girl image is screwed for few months at least, this "Ilbe goddess" nickname is probably worst that Gdruggin one, too bad for her. Last time I said that when she talks about her body, she sounds like the "stupid girl" from Pink song but I bet she's smarter than what she shows..now I'm not sure anymore~ Maybe she needs this kind of scandal to focus more on her career and stop downgrading herself like she did recently while talking about her chest. No hate towards the girl but I can't hide my disappointment from someone that I see as a a great performer.

    ReplyDelete
  46. But just a thought. These netizens are angry at Hyosung for allegedly (which they themselves have accused her of) lurking in Ilbe because of the term she used but.. if these same netizens were so pure and all, how would they even know that Ilbe use such terms? Them knowing means they also go to that site frequent enough... doesn't that make them guilty themselves of the same thing they accuse to Hyosung?

    - This!! Coundnt have said it better.

    n what is 4chan?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm guessing she was trying to look smart and use what she thought as an intellectual word, but end up choosing the wrong one? lol. Politic is a big no-no in the celeb world somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hating is a big word anyway, I don't think she deserves hate for this, but I can understand how disappointed some people could be.

    ReplyDelete
  50. MTEEE. I like Hyosung but that really made me smh.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 4chan is an image sharing site, and /b/ is the random thread...but it is pretty much all nsfw, sexual content, weird fetishes, violenct imagery etc. the people there are like scum of the internet...the content there is seriously disturbing. They even share child pornography there.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Shit that you dont want to even know about, esp when you're a female or a female idol.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Basically b is the worst of the 4chan boards. There is little to no moderation so it is plastered with sexual, violent and illegal content/discussion. Other boards are far more structured but the nature of b is that you can do or say whatever you want regardless of consequences. B is famous for its raids on places like habbo hotel and against other sites for fun.

  54. 5. [+253, -60] Is she crazy... That is the exact statement Ilbe users use... If you don't know what a word means, don't use it;;; How does that clarification even make sense? Wow, I'm so pissed off with her

Well there you go. Just be glad that you don't understand them.......

  58. Some background information:

In south korea there is a group of people claiming that the country shouldn't have been democratized and should just have remained an autocratic state with an military dictator. They even think that north korea made south korea democratized in order to mess up south korean society. Ilbe is a website where those kind of people gather.

Ilbe users distorted the use of the term 'to democratize' to 'to oppress people's freedom' because they think democracy is a bad thing. The majority of south korean think Ilbe users are making fun of blood and deaths of many people sacrificed during korean democratization by distorting the meaning of the word. And Hyosung, while I can't tell she did on purpose or not knowing, used the term in the exact way Ilbe users do.

Of course I understand outside of south korea it must be hard to understand why korean netizens are so upset about her words. But this is not just hatred toward idol celebrities, but a problem related to history and political background.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Fuck it, they have hurt T-ara, they are not starting it with SECRET

    ReplyDelete
  60. yes maybe it's misunderstanding

or Kor language one word means a lot??? ~ aah I have no idea,,,

    Hyosung 화이팅!!♥

    ReplyDelete
  61. she brought on herself, why use a word you don't know? c'mon

    ReplyDelete
  62. I understand idols not wanting to talk about politics, because they will get hate for any opinion, but it's different than not knowing the basic about politics. I am pretty sure most of the idols are not that dumb and know about politics, they just keep it to themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Honestly speaking, she probably lurks in those kind of boards to see if the Korean males are responding well to her chest. Probably likes reading comments about it tbh since she always seems to draw attention to them in interviews and whatnot.

    ReplyDelete
  64. i think she just probably wanted to come off smart in her comments so she used a fanciful word that she thought had the same meaning as democratic when it's actually something else.

next time just stick to easy words like 'we all have our own input' or something easy. it's bad but it'll die down after a few months because it's just a slip of the tongue thing rather than committing actual offenses like drink driving or bullying.

    ReplyDelete
  65. in this case, it's actually distorted from it's actual meaning to take the meaning of something else, if you read all this in English without knowing the Korean definition of 'democratize' was and you googled, you wouldn't find anything or much wrong with the translated statement. however, with the knowledge of how korean terminology works and how ilbe has transformed this word into a slang that means something else.

    ReplyDelete
  66. she can only talk about her boobs

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am pretty sure they aren't that ignorant on what is happening in their own country either.

    ReplyDelete
  68. and right now she's on the top of search engine everywhere :(

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hello, I'm Koran. Although I can speak English well, I leave a comment.
Iibe is not a mere community...um..They are just crap!
Everyone breaks contact with ilbe users. Ilbe users also know that people hate ilbe.So They thoroughly hides that they're ilbe user. Now Hyosung's incident is a huge issue. Her image will be difficult to recover. She will be treated like a T-ARA...

    ReplyDelete
  70. the people who attacked little psy.
    thanks to foreign media's ignorance.
all koreans are being seen as racists.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think what they should say is that she didn't realize the word has changed from it's actual meaning though? to take the form of slang and something negative

'Internet community 'Ilbe' has been using the term negatively and popularizing it with a different definition to mean 'to disappear', 'to demolish', or 'to cause a riot'. The community is notorious for using the word in a negative context.'

if you read this whole controversy in English without the added knowledge of how Koreans think of this word and Ilbe, you wouldn't think there was anything that's gravely wrong with her statement.

    ReplyDelete
  72. these scandals escalate too damn quickly...

    ReplyDelete
  73. but it's true that many of them are racist right?

    ReplyDelete
  74. korean netizens are pretty much always negative on nate.

But this thing has gone serious.

cuz in korea, we are looking forward to the May 18th movement for democracy celebration which ilbe people deny and believe it was a rebel supported by north korea.

ilbe people treat people of kwangju(where the movement happend.) as slaves of kim jong un.

even make fun of pictures that has the movement stuff.

like i can't even explain due to the variety of mockery and my short english...

    btw, i'm from kwangju

    ReplyDelete
  75. Between this and Secret putting 4minute down with their overconfidence when their song was released, lol. I really like Hyosung since Oh My School but gurl...

Stop saying stuff you don't know about or don't mean. It's going to ruin you. Netizens are always out for blood.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thank you for your comment.Poor Hyosung :( There are certain words, you can't use either ?

    ReplyDelete
  77. no, it's more like reddit lol

    ReplyDelete
  78. Obviously this is being blown way out of proportions...People should really learn to calm down..I mean whatever personal grievances they have against this 'IIbe' community should not be an excuse to start a witch hunt for no reason other than the fact that a so called type of word is being used.

Do the people in Korea have any idea how silly they look when they go around persecuting people like that. How does that kind of barbaric behaviour make them any different from those 'IIbe' uses they claim to hate?

    ReplyDelete
  79. You're an idiot. You don't even read Korean or know what ilbe is. Ilbe is just a photo message board like reddit. Learn Korean or GTFO!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm sorry, may I ask what Ilbe is? I heard it once, but I can't remember what it is now. LOL. And I'm too lazy to look for its meaning. OTL

On a side note, the problem is that people in general spout out words even when they don't really mean it. I know that a dictionary wouldn't always be available, but it would be a much better idea to simply say another word that you know (and would somehow explain what you want to say) rather than use a word/s that you don't know and end up being laughed/frowned upon.

    ReplyDelete
  81. How is it grave? Jesus she just minced her words during an interview and they've gone and attached a whole lot of negative shit to it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. there's no other reasoning and no place to hide for hyosung. she's either just stupid or an ilbe, no win win situation. it's going to be hard for her to recover her image, she pretty much lost it in one night. popularity goes quick in kpop. as much as i hate how idols act so perfect, sometimes they need to because there's just no excuse for saying stuff like this in that context. honestly she's a little bit of an idiot. i feel sorry for members now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. From what I know, an Ilbe is a community..a bad one. They have opposing views on serious issues like beastiality,rape...etc. While the public knows it is wrong, they think otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  84. If I distort the word 'monkey' to mean... a wad cash stolen from federal reserves, does that mean that everyone must never use that word again

    ReplyDelete
  85. only ilbe user use the word 'democratization' negatively, there is a big difference between using it negatively and just knowing it that ilbe users use it negatively

    ReplyDelete
  86. You're right, I'm an idiot, I feel so lucky to have you on my path so I can understand that, I need more people like you in my life, thank you. Sincerely.

    ReplyDelete
  87. yeah well, they also managed to give rice cakes a negative connotation so...never attempt to understand.

    ReplyDelete
  88. An example of how an assumption is spread as a fact... aka how a scandal spreads in Korea

[+253, -60] Is she crazy... That is the exact statement Ilbe users use...

    then

[+1,150, -158] Hyosung, are you an Ilbe user?

    then

[+1,053, -113] How often did she say such a thing that it comes out so naturally like that? tsk tsk SECRET are now Ilbe goddesses from here on out

    then

[+500, -59] Ilbe's going to be loving Hyosung now ㅋㅋㅋ Ilbe goddess Hyosung, praise her~~

    then

    then

[+144, -82] Cannot believe Jun Hyosung was ilbe trash all along...

    ReplyDelete
  89. People need to vote this up so folks overseas can understand the context, lol.

I didn't even know what was going on until I saw this. Thanks for explaining.

    ReplyDelete
  90. So TSent basically admits that Hyosung was being stupid and using words she had no business using? Well this is what happens when you try to sound intelligent, now she's gonna be known as an Ilbe user or The goddess of ilbe & that is not something you want attached to your name.

    ReplyDelete
  91. That's why school is important~ she sounds so stupid

    ReplyDelete
  92. He must Korean ilbe user. you're not idiot and you're right. Sincerely. ilbe is not just a photo board but worse than 4chan /b/

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well when you have guys sexually harassing a life-size cut-out board of Suzy in public and sending it to her Twitter, or sticking their genital parts in a puppy, you tend to question whether they are fit for normal society.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks a lot!!!
I was really confused, because I understood that the Ilbe thing is bad, but I didnt understand the connection with what Hyosung said.
    ^^

    ReplyDelete
  95. Thank you! Only a Korean would really have the capability to explain these issues thoroughly.

    ReplyDelete
  96. and ilbe and hyosung use it grammatically incorrectly. only ilbe users use word democratization like this '민주화시키다'.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh, I see. This part just really bothered me. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Are you a Korean ? If Yes, thanks !

    ReplyDelete
  99. KoreaBang covers Ilbe quite a bit, and to say the least they are crazy. :/ Oh Hyosung, words mean things. I hope she's able to recover from this, because she probably isn't actually an Ilbe user (at least I hope not).

    ReplyDelete
  100. OK, then. She clearly fucked up.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Did Hyosung really said it grammatically correct ?

  102. Thanks for posting this. I was seriously confused over the contextual use of the word and why it is such a bad thing. Initially, I felt that Hyosung was just being very ignorant. The whole sentence itself seems laughably contradictory. If the group encourages individuality, then why discourage democratization? Wouldn't one actually want to encourage democracy, considering her context?

    ReplyDelete
  103. This was what all of us needed.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Perfect. I respect your explanation and knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just sounds like she mixed up her words during an interview and the grammar made it come out as something else. The context was her talking about group politics, not national politics.

    ReplyDelete
  106. The interview is about her GROUP not about POLITICS whatever !

    ReplyDelete
  107. But I'm guessing the context is the same?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I honestly believe that this statement was due to ignorance. The whole sentence is a complete contradiction. She probably intended to try and appear intelligent but ended up using the wrong word. "We're a team that respects individually" alludes to her supporting democracy but unfortunately by trying to be too smart she ended up coming across as a bumbling buffoon.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Learning and agreeing to the comments explaining Ilbe and eventually the knetizens' reactions doesn't mean we agree to their accusations against Hyosung. It's just us, or at least me, wanting to see things from the knetizens' perceptions, too, because assuming that they're just hating or overreacting would make us just as impulsively assuming as them.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I don't see how you'd mix up a word like "democratize" in a sentence like that though. If she meant to use the word in its original context, then she painfully contradicted herself all in one breath.

    ReplyDelete
  111. when did they put 4minute down ?

    ReplyDelete
  112. How is it the same though? I personally believe that a sports team needs a captain and a coach. Two individuals with most, if not all the power. Does that mean that I also believe in fascism in national politics? Hell no. Two different things.

    ReplyDelete
  113. All that stuff is normal on 4chan or 2Chan...
The cut out board picture made me lol when I saw it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The main problem in this case is, she used 'democratize' as a pejorative term. Her line, 'we're a team that respects individuality so we don't democratize the group.', does not sound naturally, unless democracy really is something oppresses individuality or Hyosung thinks democracy suppress people. Whether she said about Secret or Korean politics does not change the the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  115. http://enewsworld.interest.me/enews/contents.asp?idx=35115

    ReplyDelete
  116. this. only ilbe users say 민주화시키다(democratize by force). its different from 민주화하다(democratize). there's no way she could've heard it from non ilbe users. not sure she read ilbe boards though. ilbe users are everywhere. you can easily find them on nate, dc gallery etc.

    ReplyDelete
  117. looks like she know the meaning of ilbe's democratisation. I mean if she doesn't know, she wouldn't use it as her sentence will not make sense with the real meaning of democratisation. girl, what are you doing by associating with a piece of shit.

    ReplyDelete
  118. We respect the teams individuality so we don't do a majority vote on what another person needs to change... is what i got

    ReplyDelete
  119. No, not the politics but the use of the word. Coach making controlling the team, good thing. Dictator controlling the country, bad thing. The context of the word control is different because it is also used differently. But Hyosung used the term 'democratization' in a negative context which, no matter which scope of politics you apply it to, is still negative. I hope I'm making sense.

    ReplyDelete
  120. yup. I hate to say this but she will be forever called "ilbe idol"
I hope she could make her name clear in a short time

    ReplyDelete
  121. what I understand from this article is she refer the word that ilbe user always use. so, netizens assume she's ilbe

    ReplyDelete
  122. She properly said ilbe term. Korean can't be used 'democratize' in that situation. She said ungrammatical term(democratize). It means that she knows the meaning of that ilbe term being used, And she frequently saw that site.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yes, that. So this is another reason why it also doesn't matter to knetizens that she just used it for group politics and not national.

    ReplyDelete
  124. no human deserves to be treated like trash on rumors alone, give me physical evidence that hyosung is the next hitler and t-ara are a bunch of unforgiving bullies, then i'll believe what i see. even then, i possess a fundamental human emotion called forgiveness.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Netizens, Koreans or not, most of the time overreact but sometimes we also need to see what makes them overreact especially on serious matter like this.

    ReplyDelete
  126. It's not like democratization is flawless, it has its negative points too.

I don't quite understand the Ilbe thingy. Can anyone explain, please?

    ReplyDelete
  127. at least T-ara has fans ....secret in the other hand are hopeless

    ReplyDelete
  128. Koreans are always pressed and look for an excuse to hate on someone. That's just the way they are, we could condemn it all we want it will stay that way.

    ReplyDelete
  129. finally have a celeb "repping" them?

    poor hyosung :(

    ReplyDelete
  130. someone already explained what ilbe means here

    ReplyDelete
  131. what exactly did she say then? i'm not nitpicking, it's just the only source i have for the press con.

    ReplyDelete
  132. People can stupid at times, and make big mistakes. I don't really understand what's going on, all I know is that Hyosung used a wrong term. Maybe you should first know what she really meant before stating something that could hurt other people. We don't even know if she meant it or not, or maybe she just used the wrong term. Please before saying harsh words to her maybe you should first think about how it's gonna affect someone.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Check the most popular comment.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Ilbe users not just say 'korean democratization also has brought some negative aspects.' Rather they completely deny achievements of democratization, with groundless claims like 'It is Kim Jong-il who stands behind South Korean protests to spread social conflict' or something. Ilbe's distortion on the word 'democracy' is based of that kind of viewpoint on society.

    ReplyDelete
  135. she used a 'special' word that use only by ilbe

    ReplyDelete
  136. That clears up a lot, thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Yes. She is so Stupid but she is my bias .

    ReplyDelete
  138. Well, I was going to ask don't people know that

    ReplyDelete
  139. my god.....she really is stupid.
even if TS's explanation is true and she really didn't understand the term, to use it, you actually need to have heard it before. and ilbe users are the only ones who use it in the exact context she used it in......
either that, or she really is part of the ilbe trash.......

    ReplyDelete
  140. She wasn't saying that but I haven't watched that video too... That was something that the journalists said from the point of views not hers...

    ReplyDelete
  141. oh God, now every article about her or secret will have " ilbe" everywhereeeeeeeee

    ReplyDelete
  142. Bet her past is being looked into by keyboard warriors as we speak.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Omo... hyosung onnie :(

    ReplyDelete
  144. aigoo this is really bad.. now knetizen will hate secret like t-ara case.. sigh

    ReplyDelete
  145. I can not imagine Hyosung as an ilbe. JUst cause you mutter one word does not mean people can automatically judge and categorisie you.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I guess Hyosung just ruined her career then. You only have one time to mess up before you're finished. I wonder if they're going to start taking down Secret next?

    ReplyDelete
  147. They'll probably start digging stuff up about Hyosung's past now.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Probably. There will probably be new posts on it the rest of this week.

    ReplyDelete
  149. And there would be another chaos again....

    ReplyDelete
  150. She screwed her cute image now she will forever be associated with Ilbe.

    ReplyDelete
  151. That's how it is. They usually dig up stuff from their past to make them look even worse. I wouldn't be surprised if they started digging up stuff on Secret as a whole now.

    ReplyDelete
  152. this!! now i feel sorry for hyosung

    ReplyDelete
  153. It would be a long week for me now.... They probably would find "bad side" of Hyosung now... The other girls are so lucky if their past remains hidden...

    ReplyDelete
  154. Democracy is one of the reason of economic collapse in America and Europe. The government and banks ares still wasting money protectecting those untalented lazy ass people (citizen/immigrant).

    ReplyDelete
  155. Please no.. It has been a long road for them to reach this position =,= I thought they liked JiEun and Hana? *Sunhwa isn't counted, you know why* ... And well... She still can survive if TSE and herself save her from all of this mess.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Not sure whether she's an Ilbe user or not, but one think for sure: she really is stupid for not know what 'democratization' is. She always says unnecessary things, she is just being a noisy girl on many shows. An empty cart is usually like her.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Could anyone explain to me what "democratize" even means? Also, what is llbe?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Not sure whether she's an Ilbe user or not, but one think for sure: she really is stupid for not knowing what 'democratization' is. She always says unnecessary things, she is just being a noisy girl on many shows. An empty cart is usually like her.

    ReplyDelete
  159. More like the government and big Banks are to blame for the economic downturn in America...remember the government trying to "bail" out all of the banks and big companies during the recession.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Because she IS INDEED STUPID. All she did were just selling her body on media.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I'm sorry but I still don't get what she said that was so wrong... I know what democracy is and she said that her group is not democratic so does she mean that they're basically like slaves with no free will or something??? I'm so confused. Could anyone explain t to me in simple words? Politics are my last area of interest so I find it hard to follow...

    ReplyDelete
  162. How can she not know what what Democratize means? Didn't She visit a school? Didn't they taught her in School about the meaning of the word Democracy?
Seriously in moments like this I wish she was not the leader of Secret. I love this girl group but I don't want the same thing happen to them as it happened to T-ara.

    Sorry for my poor English.

    ReplyDelete
  163. No. Nothing there is funny at all.

The really awful thing about the shit they post is that they truly believe whatever it is you think is so funny about the site.

People on 4chan or whatever parody public figures and shit, but it's pretty much a joke (unless someone's trolling).

But no. The people on Ilbe genuinely believe in things like women should be kept at home and for breeding purposes, that if a woman gets raped she was asking for it by dressing sexy, that homosexuals are abominations and should die, etc. etc.

None of that is fucking funny.

    ReplyDelete
  164. it's quite different in this case because the roots of their reason seems deep. it's leaning towards their history and foundation as a nation so us int'l fans ((i assume you are)) have no say whether they are right to do this or not.

    ReplyDelete
  165. billiondollarbabeMay 14, 2013 at 12:22 PM

so. see doesn't know what democratize means??O.o eeeee

    ReplyDelete
  166. It's all so premature though. Unless they can find actual proof she's been on ilbe, this is just netizens braying for blood.

actually, i'm afraid that's what ilbe users are probably trying to do now considering their fucked up views of the world. is it possible to trace users on ilbe? or are they anonymous like 4chan?

    ReplyDelete
  167. procrastinatoroftheuniverseMay 14, 2013 at 12:47 PM

well...the danger of a true democracy can actually lead to the oppression of minorities as the majority
is more likely to rule and protect their own interests at the expense
of the rights/interests of minority groups. i think it's called tyranny
by majority rule. it's a very valid reality but something most people
don't learn about (at least most americans don't). in the case of
americans, it's rather shocking how many of us think that america is a
democracy when it is ACTUALLY a representative democracy and the various
checks and balances at all levels and between parts of the government
exist to prevent (or at least try...) the oppression of minorities

    ReplyDelete
  168. That's what I don't get, for me democracy= free will/respect for individual opinions soo..... "We're a team that respects individuality so we don't democratize the group." <----- wut??
It seems like she is an airhead not a right wing radical, so can anyone explain what's going on??

    ReplyDelete
  169. I learn politics, but well I have no idea what democratization means in this article.

    ReplyDelete
  170. maybe there is something i don't get but from an american view what i understand this is a political issue........right......i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Well, looks like she's not gonna be able to sleep for a few days. praying to god she's not an actual ilbe user but rather made a stupid, ignorant mistake

    ReplyDelete
  172. oh c'mon it's clearly she's just dumb. she doesn't even hv the brain to think like that. even if she open the ilbe page all she sees is just rainbow I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  173. AKP always cover shit for some idols. They are paid for it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. don't worry. if they have a real talent like Bigbang it wouldn't matter.

The real value of an idol as musician will only be seen after they get old or get into a scandal.

    ReplyDelete
  175. This is so dumb. She doesn't deserve all this hate.

    ReplyDelete
  176. They have a business relationship with TS ent. >>>>>>

    ReplyDelete
  177. ha! i laugh at all the whatever secrets fandom is. why? talked trash about t-ara when queens still supported secret now its their turn and guess what you will get no support from me secret and its not secrets fault is their fandom so yeah sorry

    ReplyDelete
  178. T-ara is still treated like thrash, I'm guessing you're only excited that your t-bullies have another company in their T-ara hate train.

    ReplyDelete
  179. this proves k-netizens will go apeshit over anything

    ReplyDelete
  180. it seems like netizens are always craving for scandals and reasons to bully someone ! the girl made a mistake , she apologized now get over it !

    ReplyDelete
  181. WOW!!
And just like that it can all be over. (not that her career or anything is over but DAMN its gonna take alot to get out of this one).

I can completely see where they are coming from. But I also truly believe that she didn't fully understand the meaning.

But lol at them straight saying that she is actually a user on those sites as if its fact.
