Article: Kim Nam Joo's secret to her body "I starve to the point of loneliness"
Source: Newsen via Nate
1. [+246, -4] I like how she's honest about it. It's way more understandable than celebrities who say they lose weight while eating everything they want. But I wonder how she starves............?
2. [+143, -0] Glad to finally hear an honest response.. I hate fake celebrities who say they eat normally and then starve in the back when the cameras are off. Ah, I need to diet too~ should I try starving as well? But... I always push it back to tomorrow.. ㅠㅠ
3. [+130, -2] Kim Nam Joo's so honest. Other celebrities are always acting like they love eating on TV, saying they never gain weight no matter how much they eat because they're so active. I remember SNSD's Tiffany said she ate 2,000 calories a day but when reporters went into SNSD's dorm, all you could find was a pan of pizza... Kim Nam Joo's the only real one.

Omg.... why...
ReplyDeleteSince when is starving yourself a good thing?
ReplyDeleteStarving herself like that would make her an anorexic, would it not?
ReplyDelete...Well, at least she isn't lying.

ReplyDeleteHonest or not you shouldn't be glad that someone admits to starving themselves...
Is this netizen trying to be sarcastic with saying if they should try starving as well?
Really?????
Why is it so hard to believe that some people have faster metabolisms than others? I eat all I want and I'm skinny as a toothpick seriously K-netizens need to get their shit together... Unless those are just the fat ones commenting
ReplyDeleteIf an idol would have said the same thing.....these comments would have been different.
ReplyDeleteYes i understand the whole celebs lying about their dieting habits being frustrating. But how is admitting that they starve themselves any better.
ReplyDeleteIf she starves, wouldn't her body naturally lower its metabolism because it thinks its in danger? And wouldn't this just result in a faster weight gain once she starts eating again? Don't people understand these things?
ReplyDeleteYou have basal metabolic rate. You can't go lower than that to as long as your input equates to your BMR it'll be alright.
Delete*so
DeleteI'm in the same boat; eat all I want and never gain a pound.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that she's honest but how the hel is this praise worthy o.O?? They should be concerned about her health.
ReplyDeleteThey don't seem to understand a lot of things. They can't even accept the fact that some people just have a fast metabolism.
ReplyDeleteIt's not. But when you have two people staving themselves, and one admits it and the other one makes excuses for her actions, I'd be more understanding of the honest one too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this promoting eating disorders, by saying 'hey if you starve yourself you'll be prettier.'
ReplyDeleteDownvote me all you want but it's the truth.
never fear the downvotes
ReplyDeleteYou'd think that the more successful celebrities would actually be able to get a trainer to work with their diets and work outs, instead of just starving. I'm sure they can afford it though, it just doesn't seem to catch on in Korea? It's not even an issue of money since I'm sure that even a small gym in the street corner has someone knowledgeable.
ReplyDeleteNo. Do not look to follow after her, praise her honesty but not her unhealthy habits. She's hurting herself.
ReplyDelete[+130, -2] Kim Nam Joo's so honest. Other celebrities are always acting like they love eating on TV, saying they never gain weight no matter how much they eat because they're so active. ReplyDeletethis idiot over here appears to not realize how much calories are in pizzas!
lol snsd, they are just trash compared to these actresses
ReplyDeleteshe might be over exaggerating, who knows. they're praising her because thats what they wanted her to say and thats what they believe celebrities do. they cant believe that some celebrities might actually eat everything and maintain their figure...why is that? im pretty sure some of them even exercise to keep their body shape. sometimes metabolism come into play.
ReplyDeletei remember my cooking teacher back in high school said that you can eat anything, as long as its in moderation.
these views on beauty and tolerance that this country has just baffles me. Seriously... i would never praise someone for starving themselves. That just encouraging the behaviour when it shouldn't be. People just need to hop on the healthy diet and workout bandwagon rather than the psuedo-anorexia one. I rather have Yuri tell me her dieting regime 'cause that girl is a health freak when it comes to diet and exercise.
ReplyDeleteWatch this though. I bet if an article came out about her dying from malnutrition or other complications from starving, the comments are gonna be like "Why did she have to starve herself? Didn't she know that she was fine just the way she is?"
ReplyDeleteI know right... 500+ calories in 2 pizza slices I ate today.
ReplyDeleteYou're even worse than trash. Your existence is just pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThat's what they're doing, praising her for her honesty.
ReplyDeleteI want Lee Hyori to tell me hers.
ReplyDeleteIt's not hard to believe some people don't gain weight, but your attitude about this doesn't help those who are really struggling with body image and weight issues..
ReplyDeleteDieting is a serious issue for other people, what that actress said may just lead people to follow suit. Rather than shield those people who say they don't gain weight in the ent indus, Instead of enforcing healthy eating and not starving, I don't know why you would add insult to injury by calling commenters 'the fat ones'.
And even though i'm underweight myself, I'm not as complacent as to assume metabolism will keep me in shape all my life.
What? this article+comments is supporting people starving themselves. I'm not the one condoning unhealthy habits... Whether or not you're happy with your body is up to you I was addressing the fact that these people insult individuals who say they don't need to starve themselves to be skinny probably out of their own insecurity. Might wanna re-read it buddy!
ReplyDeleteYa except there is no proof of the other people starving themselves at all, and it's wrong to assume they do and act hateful towards them merely because they are skinny.
ReplyDeleteHyori did lemon-detox recently and failed LOL Honestly though, queen Hyori was born with that, some people just have it.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are naturally thin people like Sandara of 2ne1. But thats not the case 90% of the time, and we are talking about majority here. People dont really care if they diet though, its just sometimes its good to be honest with their actions.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure by "starving" she did not mean real starving. She is just way too rich for being that stupid. I guess she just works hard for this look by following extreme diets and work outs, maybe even harder than younger girls because she is not that young anymore, and thats what she meant by starving.
ReplyDeleteShes sooo onthe eating disorders road... Thats not healthy at all!! I lol a how eeryone wants to lose weight and are willing to stare to death but dint even think about stuff like working out... And there are ppl who eat and eat and are slim..! I know ppl that eat like theres no tomorrow and are skinny as hell!! Some ppl are like that while others need tokeep an eye of what they eat..
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything in your previous comment besides the last line... but can't you see how "Unless those are just the fat ones commenting" throws people off?
ReplyDeleteIt's sort of rude and hugely prejudiced.
But why do they need to be honest with their actions? Im not condoning lying but why do celebrities need to inform us about what they eat or dont eat.
ReplyDeleteEvery single thing they do is already scrutinised by media and netizens. Now netizens want the truth about what they eat?
As long as my biases look healthy and energetic while performing and dont look sickly/weak/malnourished, I couldnt give a shit about them lying about what they had for lunch or smt.
1 pan of pizza in a dorm shared by 9 girls.
ReplyDeleteIdk about you, but my pizzas are usually cut into 8 slices and 1 slice is definitely not enough. Even with a 2 liter bottle of soda.
How can all the members of snsd have a fast metabolism. lol
ReplyDeletesunny doesn't have one (if she drinks as much as the members say she doest because alcohol actually slows your metabolism down... it slows everything down, actually).
and judging by the lack of tone in tiffany's legs, she doesn't have a fast metabolism either. Just a bunch of jiggle and no muscle. sooyoung has more muscles than tiffany does.
oh dam i never expect that cuz her body looks really healthy at the year ends award. and she was wearing one fine dress. she beats out all the other actresses that night. o:
ReplyDeleteWouldnt coming out saying you starve yourself, as a celebrity, just get other young kids to start starving themselves? I mean the others are lying for other peoples' own good, no matter how obvious it is..
ReplyDeletethose thighs....O_O, eat a pork chop
ReplyDeletedon't worry. most americans don't believe in this thing called "fast metabolism" it's no suprise considering that over 60% of this country is overweight. these same people would get extremely offended if anyone is called fat, but the minute they call someone skinny or a stick , it is suddenly okay.
ReplyDeletethere is so much double standards with that, it hurts just as much to call someone skinny, but calling someone fat is a HUGE no-no
i like how you are getting thumbdowns for no actual reason, i'm assuming all of those people must be overweight.. don't worry. i'm in the same boat as you. i've been stick skinny my whole life, when i was young people would accuse me of being anorexic ( always the fat girls) they just couldn't understand how i was so thin.
ReplyDeletebut when they saw me eat it was so strange that i ate as much as them, even more then they ate but stayed so thin.
Lol...SNSD members have a ferocious appetite. They can't help it with this kind of dancing!
ReplyDeleteMam., That lacey black dress of yours is STUNNING!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw that, my No was to comments of following her behavior of starvation.
ReplyDeleteAhh, then I'm sorry : ) I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteIt's likely that they have a regular metabolism but the fact that they are so busy uses up all the calories they eat. They also probably eat very healthily compared to most western diets.
ReplyDeleteShe was too old to have fast metabolisme....starving or conntrol food intake would br a good solution..
ReplyDeleteWhere on earth do you learn to calculste people metabolism rate by looking at their muscle?
ReplyDeleteI had to do all those thing by blood analysis.....
They may not have fast metabolism....but they move a lot than u n me do nothing infront of this monitor....i think they ate a lot but surely less than u and me....
My friend using liqour after giving birth to heat the body which result shed her fat.
Yeah actually I agree too. Koreans are way too conscious about their body image for their own good. I think even far more than Americans and their pressure to get hollywood bodies, because they go all the way as to go for plastic surgery when a plain old diet doesn't do the trick.
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn't agree with McGruff (not hating on him, but the delivery of the point) was only the fact that I think it isn't very nice to tell koreans to get their shit together and that they should be the fat ones who got offended and must have written those posts..because image conscious is something almost everyone suffers with, not just koreans...so lots of people don't have their shit together.
if McGruff IS right, that they are the overweight people who got upset, then that's like poking in their face telling ugly people how ugly they are, and that's the part where I feel it doesn't help already upset people feel even more upset.
Personally, my best friend is so uncomfortable by the fact that she is severely underweight, and despite efforts, she CAN'T gain weight. I can't help her think otherwise, that it's okay to be the way she is. Society created a perfect image, and it sucks.
wow.. she gets praised for starving? oô idk.. this is kind of.. weird, or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteStarving yourself, wow. It's cool that you were honest but I'm not going to praise that.
ReplyDeleteI never said all SNSD members have a fast metabolism
ReplyDeletesince when she became an actress. if she was an idol, it would've been a different response. remember actress/actor>>>idol
ReplyDeleteI remember when Anne Hathaway told how she'd literally made herself to look like she was dying to get the figure she had in Catwoman... Means she really didn't approve of the unhealthy beauty standard we have today...
ReplyDeleteSo if it's not for a role then why starve yourself for an certain image? Oh wait I forgot, you can't be pretty without being super skinny, silly me.
LOL this comment is SO me.... "....Ah, I need to diet too~ should I try starving as well? But... I always push it back to tomorrow.. ㅠㅠ" LOL
ReplyDeletebut hey better do a healthy good diet than starving yourself.
Netizen Buzz has more sensible people. No need to fear the downvotes like justlol said xD
ReplyDeleteOh no don't worry, we know about fast metabolism. But we also know that anorexia and other eating disorders are very common in the entertainment industry. The Korean industry is no exception even if fast metabolism is common in the Korean bodytype.
ReplyDeleteJust look at the diet plans of idols such as Secret, Kara, T-ara, etc. They're eating one sweet potato and like a leaf of lettuce for dinner. Before you guys start spewing bullshit of "THAT'S KOREAN CUISINE. BUT SWEET POTATOS CONTAIN STARCH." that diet plan is NOT healthy at all.
Korean Cuisine consists of lots of meat and having ONLY one sweet potato per meal is ridiculous and will not give the necessary vitamins and nutrients for your body.
Plus add in that they do extraneous exercising and dancing.
So yes, idols may have fast metabolisms but that doesn't hide the fact that eating disorders are still out there and it's sad that instead of wanting change for it, fans are going:
"OMG UNNIE. YOU'RE SO SKINNY. I WANT TO BE SKINNY. MAYBE I SHOULD START EATING LIKE THAT".
Yes let's all praise a woman that could pass out any minute just because she's hungry. Great logic Korea.
ReplyDeleteNo excuses or admitting can change the fact that it's stupid.
ReplyDeleteWe know about it. Most of us just don't exercise and eat the wrong things.
ReplyDeleteWe can assume Seohyun didn't partake in the pizza, since she hates unhealthy food.
ReplyDeletewow that's such a bad example to give to the youngest !
ReplyDeleteand why bringing an idol into this again ?
i bet if Tiffany said she starved she would have been bashed endlessly.
netizens are really stupid.
My secret to maintaining a good weight is coffee.
ReplyDeleteLol, I lose appetite and end up eating less rice or less portions. In the mornings, the caffeine basically knocks out those cravings for a mcmuffin or some fatty lunch meal.
I didnt say they have to say everything they eat. But some celebrities say ridiculous things like "I eat ramen before I sleep and thats how i keep my body thin". Instead of saying bullshit like this, they just need to stay quiet. Or if you choose to say your secret, be honest and fair.
