TV: [Spoilers!!!] K-Pop Star 2

Article: K-Pop Star 2, Judge BoA's surprising tactics

Source:
Mediaus via Nate

1. [+434, -27] Usually on audition programs, the female judge tends to just go with whatever the male judges choose but BoA stands her ground. She judges well according to her own standards and I find myself agreeing with the way she listens to performances. BoA's really the best for me when it comes to female judges.

2. [+291, -18] I think she provides a different perspective from YG and JYP, who look at these talents from the perspective of a producer. As a 13 year veteran, she uses her experience to spot and fix the problems of the performances and praises them to boost morale whether they did good or bad. She's not just good among the female judges, she's good among all of them.

3. [+295, -26] I'm really looking forward to a girl group produced by BoA. She may be young but she's been in the industry so long that she's no longer just a pretty or cute female idol but an amazing artist. She also doesn't let herself get pushed around by Park Jin Young.

Article: K-Pop Star 2, SM YG JYP complete casting, who was chosen?

Source: OSEN via Nate

1. [+254, -29] People say that it seems like Park Jin Young doesn't have any standards to his judging but his standards are actually very simple: don't be nervous when you sing, and be able to touch the hearts of the audience at the same time. I think he just wants the basics of what a real singer needs to possess./

2. [+123, -6] Lee Joo Eun on SM's list... Did she piss off the PDs or something? I've never seen her sing on TV but she's already passed three stages and managed to get up there?

3. [+122, -19] I think BoA has the blood of a producer ㅋㅋ Looking forward to her girl group

Article: K-Pop Star 2 "Is this just a foreign pop song talent show?"

Source:
Mediaus via Nate

1. [+710, -26] Lee Seung Chul once said that your true skills will come out when you sing a Korean song ㅋㅋ

2. [+616, -22] It is true that the show focuses too much on foreign songs. There are a lot of people that can sing foreign songs well but struggle with Korean songs, like Park Je Hyung and Kim Na Yoon from season one..

3. [+499, -23] If they want to become Korean singers, they should understand the emotions behind Korean songs and sing well. No matter how many foreign songs they sing perfectly, no one's going to care if they sing Korean songs without any emotion or understanding of the lyrics.

  1. Although I like a few, this season has been a bit boring so far.

  4. true about too much english song, i mean they're in search for Korean star.
superstark is doing good job with song choosing, and i got to know A LOT of good old korean song from the show, like kim gwangsuk's "becoming dust", "with the heart to forget you". the quality of korean old song can even compare to beatle's n oasis music. it is really good, and beautiful.

  6. Omg JYP picked most of my favorites! And YG got the Akdong duo who are already succesful. I don't know the people BoA picked but I'm sure they're talented. Girl power lol.

  7. why are they trying to act like korean song are superior? there are songs with no words that can make you feel certain ways, it has nothing to do with the language, it's the singer.

  8. BoA seems to have stepped her game up this season. She was my least favorite judge during season 1 because she seemed kind of Jimin biased and she'd make some off-handed remarks in Jimin's favor but at Lee Hayi's expense. Plus, she seemed to not give great song choices to the people she mentored.

But I'm glad she's improved her judging. She has a lot to give!

  9. This season's contestants are sooo boring and forgettable compared to the contestants from seasons 1.

  10. "2. I've never seen her sing on TV but she's already passed three stages and managed to get up there?" -> I hate that they don't show all of the contestants who passed. :/

I disagree with the people here on the comment section that say this season is boring compared to the first one. I felt that way too at first but now I see so many talented contestants and I'm hooked again!

Please keep doing Kpop Star articles, NB. ^_^

  11. yeah, the content of those comments is rather ridiculous.Korean songs are superior for them cause they understand the lyrics. Not because they are more difficult or have more depth. Maybe it's the viewers that lack skills to feel/understand the song, not the singer. ANd if performer sang korean song without emotions then he/she did the same (or worse) with english song, they just didn't notice that.

  12. yah i agree i think there are many kpop song that are reallly touching and i can really see the emotion. but do i understand the lyrics no? but just from how the song is sung i can tell if its a sad song, happy song ext.

  13. They're not saying that Korean language is superior. The first comment basically means that with Korean pronunciation, it's harder to achieve the resonance. When we are speaking English, we pronounce each words from the back of our tongue, closer to the throat because English language requires us to roll our tongue. Contrarily, Koreans talk from the part closer to the mouth, thus sounds lighter than English, and this makes the singer hard to find resonance with Korean lyrics..

The emotional part is a bit hard to explain...It's more of a cultural thing. There are songs that sound catchy or grab your attention even if you do not know any lyrics. On the other hand, there are certain tunes and lyrics that are inherently liked in one particular culture, due to the familiarity that people grew up with. For instance, an American might find a certain melody and lyrics with a particular emotion very appealing to their ears, but a foreigner might not to the same degree. Also with Korean movies & dramas; some foreigners find the acting overly dramatic, but Koreans, who generally are more dramatic in real life than Westerners, are very well used to such emotional expression. The cultural difference plays a lot into this.

  14. BOA is just Awesome, hahaha

  15. Do the participants choose which company they audition for?

    ReplyDelete
  16. i totally agree with u. i started watching the show in season 1 for her but i really disliked how she got biased towards Jimin and Ahyeon and against lee Hi. she once even said that she preferred Ahyeon's voice over Lee Hi. u could tell she really disliked Lee Hi for some reason, and now after the top 3 made their debuts, she was the first to congratulate Ahyeon and Jimin and ask her followers to support them, yet she posted not a single comment in regards to Hayi..

anyways, the past is the past..i really like BoA much better this season. she has become easily my favourite judge especially since she has finally understood how to not be bias towards a specific singer

  17. I think KPOPSTAR is more focused on young singers that can be appealing to other countries too that's why they seem 'too foreign'. And I also think, there are many foreign kpop fans who watch KPOPSTAR than other singing contest shows in Korea. Remember a hollywood celebrity who tweeted about Jimin's performance of Rolling in the Deep? Yeah.. that's one of the example.

The main purpose of KPOPSTAR is..the singer shud appeal both in Korea and other foreign countries too.

  18. I really find haya voice annoying :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. you'll find her annoying on the first episode where she sang IU's Peach but the latest performance 'Chitty Chitty bang bang' she did really well there. She improved a lot.

  20. Future ceo of sm.......and hope she can reform sm

    ReplyDelete
  21. Her comments are different and they make full sense... she has her stance and she doesn't appear to be timid between the 2 CEOs..Awesome, really :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Probably being bias isn't a smart thing to do as a judge. But that's human nature. You may risk your life to love & protect something that you find special, but people around may never understand why nor appreciate what you love =)
