KARA's Seungyeon to play Kim Tae Hee's rival in 'Jang Ok Jung'

Article: [Exclusive] Han Seungyeon cast in 'Jang Ok Jung'.... to play the role of Kim Tae Hee's rival

Source: TV Daily via Nate

1. [+861, -16] Just cast Haha's mother

2. [+777, -16] Is the writer just giving up on this drama now

3. [+705, -20] Kim Tae Hee as Jang Ok Jung, Yoo Ah In as Sook Jong, Han Seungyeon as Choi Sook Bin ㅋㅋㅋ Daebak ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Viewers will totally be able to concentrate ㅋㅋㅋ

4. [+100, -3] Scriptwriter: No one digs my own grave but me.

5. [+85, -2] Okay... They're just going all out now, aren't they ㅋㅋㅋ Might as well add Dongho at this rate, why not?

6. [+81, -2] Pretty sure this drama is important for Kim Tae Hee.. ㅋㅋㅋ But suddenly my anticipation has just dropped...

7. [+73, -3] With the abundance of amazing actors at their disposal, are producers insisting on the use of idols purely for their popularity? You can tell just by 'School 2013' how many talented rookie actors there are...

8. [+65, -1] Let's go all out and just cast Lee Yeon Hee too

9. [+47, -7] Suzy, IU, Seungyeon. The three broadcast channels are really going for it, aren't they.

10. [+32, -0] I think this drama will make history as the first historical comedy

Exactly. If you look closely, the really popular dramas (domestically & internationally) only ever have one, max. two idols in the cast (School 2013, Reply 1997, Flower Boy series). Dramas without any idols are mostly popular in Korea and Idol-filled dramas (Dream High, TTBY, YAB...) are considered big international, but had pretty bad ratings in Korea...I guess producers don't learn from facts...

    1. Uh they do learn which is why they don't care about ratings. Money Ia more important

    2. Dream high had good ratings

      Delete
    3. Don't confuse Dream High with Dream High 2. Dream High's great ratings were what spurred the production of Dream High 2. But Dream High 2's lack of direction led to its bad ratinga. Not all idol dramas are flops. Dream High had a great cast, beautiful storyline and fantastic chemistry between these kids of relatively similar ages. Not the best acting, but it is compensated for in its heart and honesty in storytelling. :)

  5. Seungyeon is very decent. I bet she'll surprise us. Can't wait for april <3
    Fighting, Seungyeonie!

  6. I didn't realize that 32 was considered old..

  7. Netizens need to focus on their own lives. Get that money, idols.

  9. TTBY didn't do good anywhere tho. it flopped in korea and didn't get sold for that much compared to other dramas. SM drama's flop in every possible way

    ReplyDelete
  10. 1. [+861, -16] Just cast Haha's mother

I love netizens so much sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Seungyeon? Seriously? Lol this show is gonna flop hard

    ReplyDelete
  12. So kim tae hee's rival will be played by a little girl (compared to her).......just great. lol

    ReplyDelete
  13. seungyeon is soo cute, look at her big eyes and baby face, aww

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dream High is no way a flop in ratings ...15%-20% is not a flop..just saying

    ReplyDelete
  15. old Kim TaeHee pwned her in term of beauty, brain, popularity and love life, though. Your agurment is invalid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You missed my point.

    ReplyDelete
  17. First Historical Comedy, xD

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm just stating facts.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But because of hardcore SM fans (okay, that sounds weird) the drama still got more exposure than a lot of other dramas internationally. Anyhow, that wasn't my point.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not talking about DH1 only. No matter how hard you try, you can't deny DH2 was.

    ReplyDelete
  21. it's kind of embarrassing how bad it was compared to the japanese version..

    ReplyDelete
  22. Has Seungyeon even acted before? How the heck did she get this role? (I know, I know, most likely from insiders. But still, this a load of bs.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. not a fan of seungyeon, but kim taehee is not a good actrees either.

    ReplyDelete
  24. cameo here and there and KARA's japanese drama URAKARA

    ReplyDelete
  25. a little girl? seungyeon is 26 years old (korean age)

    ReplyDelete
  26. wow the entertainment insiders must be playing dare games to see how many idols they can put in dramas or something...

    ReplyDelete
  27. i am kara fans, but i am worried over seungyeon's acting since i thought she wasn't that very good at it (based on urakara) but well let's see. i hope it turns good.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dream High was one of the best korean dramas ever so..

    ReplyDelete
  29. why r these people always complaining. there must be a reason why all these idols r being casts. if the actors of the dramas dont mind then lets just watch the drama. yes this drama might be important for kim tae hee but she cant act for shit. the suzy they hate acts way better. i watched both dream high and iris, and there were times where kim tae hee made me cringe. although i do agree that idols should leave roles for rookie actors cause how r they going to grow big if they r not being given major roles and that lately every drama has to have at least 1 idol with a major role but. i dont know cause its a major dilemma for viewers but i guess all they can do is just tolerate it and i am sure the PD and the top actors will realise in due time that it isnt really worth it to hire all these idols as lately all this hallalya bulshit aint going no where. the only people who laterly r benefiting from it apart from selling the drama is lee min ho, jang geun and yoochun in terms of popularity in asia and no other idol or actors r getting famous because of drama production

    ReplyDelete
  30. 5. [+85, -2] Okay... They're just going all out now, aren't they ㅋㅋㅋ Might as well add Dongho at this rate, why not?

    This made me LOL XD

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yet all these netizens fail to realize Kim Tae Hee is not much better. Or they probably do but ignore it since she's an ~actress~

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm sorry I'm not seeing the problem, if you're going to bitch about the use of Seungyeon bitch about the use of Kim Tae Hee as well because she isn't exactly that great of an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  33. wtv Minho is now very popular in Asia.

    ReplyDelete
  34. lol, yoo ah in will get a hard time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I said compared to kim tae hee. Meaning is it really realistic to have seungyeon as (KIM TAE HEE'S) rival and it be realistic. No. ( no offense)

    ReplyDelete
  36. If you look closely, so far this drama only has 1 idol.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ah, thanks.

I was wondering because I didn't think it would be fair to criticize if she hadn't even gotten the chance, but if this reaction is based on something, well.... :/

    ReplyDelete
  38. actually saeguk drama is really difficult than modern drama.
not everyone can do saeguk very well.

why she must doing it for her 1st drama.
    for Yoo Ah In.

    ReplyDelete
  39. really i feel bad for yoo ah in, i hope this drama will successful

    ReplyDelete
  40. Kim Tae Hee already got tons of criticisms when she was confirmed to play the lead role.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Netizens don't bitch about Kim Taehee's acting anymore 'cause everybody knows she's not a great actress by any means. What they're bitching about is casting an idol for a big role in a buzzed about drama.

    ReplyDelete
  42. you must not have watched a lot of korean dramas then...

    ReplyDelete
  43. You just wish you'd look as good as Kim Taehee does when you're 32.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's a popular, trendy drama, but by no means does it warrant any spot in any "best ever" lists.

    ReplyDelete
  45. pretty sure k-netizens didnt watch her japanese drama though

    ReplyDelete
  46. Reply 1997 has more than two idols in their cast but they still did well. Eunji and Hoya are current idols, Eun Jiwon is a past idol, SIG is a singer (it's not like he's been taken very seriously as an actor like Shin So Yul is).

    ReplyDelete
  47. okay, then. i just felt the comments above are little bias

    ReplyDelete
  48. 4. [+100, -3] Scriptwriter: No one digs my own grave but me.

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  49. I almost stopped watching Ghost after three episodes because she was basically just a dead fish crying all the time. After the third episode, her scenes were cut and they added more of the Mad Cow dude, So Ji Sub, and the bad guy with the glasses and all was well.

SM has really beautiful actors, actresses, and idols... but jesus christ only a handful out of the 40 people on his roster are actually talented. -_-

    ReplyDelete
  50. The first Japanese version (Ikuta Toma + Horikita Maki + Oguri Shun), not the second one made in 2011 with Acchan. The 2011 version was pretty bad, but TTBY was seriously the worst. Even worse than the Chinese version...

    ReplyDelete
  51. ...for his acting...?

Or is it his rapping that's caught everyone's attention...?

    ReplyDelete
  52. 15% ratings, but that's because they casted idols in most of the lead roles. Everyone who reviewed the show couldn't get over how awful IU, Taecyeon, Suzy, and Wooyoung were at acting (and the plot line was really fucking stupid). Kim Soo Hyun was the only person in that drama with even a speck of talent, and his acting was still a little rough during DH1.

  54. Reply 1997 and Dream High are rare cases though. It doesn't happen often

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lol, I'm actually watching Ghost right now and she's so bad, she just takes away from it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That prob gets a lot of ratings cuz younger teens watch them. But 15% is nowhere near popularity. For a drama to be considered a sensation, the average rating should be above 30%.

    ReplyDelete
  57. KTH already got a lot of flak. The netizens are probably tired to talk about it again.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I read all or most of the reviews in Dream High from Dramabeans, dramacrazy ,koala, and other blogs..most of them liked the show and actually thinks the idols were casted perfectly. The story was nicely plotted, thus the positive response. It's not only Kim Soo Hyun but all of them including the writers and directors were good in making that drama. If you can't accept its popularity then that's your problem. Your comment is subjective anyway so I will not take that against you.

    ReplyDelete
  59. 2 they said. one is someone named sunghyu., is he the guy from infinite? sorry, i dont knw infinite that much

    ReplyDelete
  60. 30 running to 40% and above are national drama already. 15-20%+ are "hit" dramas. Since OP said( before editing her post) that DH is a FLOP. Regardless of what demographics who watched that drama, DH was far from being a flop in Korea. It's as popular as A gentleman's dignity, Nice Guy, and Bridal Mask and others within that scale in Korea (rating wise). DH at that time was no. 1 in time slot beating Athena.

  61. 2. [+777, -16] Is the writer just giving up on this drama now

XDDD I laughed. A lot. Netizens never fail to amuse me. :'D

    ReplyDelete
  62. lol why haha'a mother all of a sudden?
and dongho joke will never die huh? xD

    ReplyDelete
  63. people should stop being so rude and prejudge without actually seeing Seungyeon act this role out first. Seung yeon has acted before and has done a decent job, don't criticize if you haven't seen her. i think ppl should only criticize of say their opinion things like that if they have watched the idols act. i've seen LYH and Suzy and IU all act and i can say they aren't good actors, I'm only saying this because I ACTUALLY HAVE SEEN THEM ACT. don't be so rude and compare Seungyeon to these ppl bc she hasnt shown what she can do yet.

    ReplyDelete
  64. tbh i only think suzy and taecyeon are the worst actors in DH1 lol...the rest are fine..and kim soo hyun is definitely the best there

    ReplyDelete
  65. I watched the japanese version for like 13 times and cannot even finish the korean version :(

    ReplyDelete
  66. yeah but for knetizens actors are always better than idols.

    ReplyDelete
  67. lol, of course the fans will say they loved it and the idols were casted perfectly. Because they're fans! they're biased! lol

    ReplyDelete
  68. reply1997>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DH

    ReplyDelete
  69. your opinion, sir, but all of them are just basic as fuck

koreans need to raise their beauty standards.

    ReplyDelete
  70. both versions are embarrasing

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with you! Who are we to judge! Do we have the qualifications to judge? How you see some things could be very SUBJECTIVE! I totally disagree with E.J.! For me, KTH is a very convincing actress! I love her LSIH, IRIS, and MP! Well, it is nature of some people to look for faults... let us try not to be a hater.

    ReplyDelete
  72. leveled them with the beauty of his actingkim tae hee

Many new truth has 15 and 16 years know nothing Starring
Kim Tae hee has a performance is only mediocre and the directors elected by that is the ideal type Korean!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Wow, u need an eye check, but seung yeon is not even remotely pretty. She's ok when she does her music due to heavy makeup, but in the drama, she looks ugly, and I don't find her one bit pretty. KTH is a lot prettier than seung yeon.
