Conspiracy: What's with all these scandals?

I came across an interesting post tonight that netizens are saying might explain the sudden boom in entertainment scandals as a cover up.

On January 1st, the Korean government passed a new law that grants any member of congress a pension of $1,200 a month from age 65 to death, and this includes any person that was a member of congress even for one day. There are currently 1,141 serving members of which 780 are eligible and the government has set aside \12.876 billion won for this purpose.

Not only is the law itself problematic and full of loopholes that can be abused, but it also comes just after both parties in the election promised that they would be giving up unnecessary political perks. Other areas of needed funding not receiving the bare minimum needed (orphanages were granted $1.50 - a 10 cent raise - a meal per child) are also being ignored in favor of this law.

A petition has been started with over 13,000 signatures and there are several articles detailing the online anger/outrage as well as a movement to bring the issue onto search rankings and Nate rankings but it's still outnumbered by the other scandals going on (the issue managed to jump 513 rankings up to 2nd since the movement started).

  1. I kinda figured it had to be covering up something politically from the sheer amount.

  2. it was kind of obvious. too many scandal in 3 days.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yep, i thought something like this was happening but i wasn't sure.

    ReplyDelete
  4. lol, like i said in the other article 2013 is the scandal year

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm suddenly a little doubtful of SNSD's comeback and the number of articles about it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. ............i just cant. i hope this law doesnt pass.

    ReplyDelete
  7. a scandal to cover up another scandal.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's sad how this type of thing happens everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  9. This explains everything

    ReplyDelete
  10. so correct me if I'm wrong, the government is using scandals to mask the current situation in the congress about this bill? right?

    ReplyDelete
  11. The corruption of Korea's political system has been going on since Korea split... most likely even before that.

Using idols to distract the public from the dirty things politicians are doing is something new... I think it started to pick up back in late 2009/early 2010 when they realized how many people were upset when DBSK split up.

This is sad... I'm an American and politicians here are disgusting (read: the GOP and its crew of misogynistic, racist fucktards) but this is even more so IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  12. the comeback was awful. doubt its anything more.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Possible, there's a lot fuss created over nothing lately, eg; dating

    ReplyDelete
  14. really i don't think this is anymore than whats going on in america. politicans constantly use scape goats ( muslims, mexicans) as a distraction for something they caused or are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Awful or not, there's been many articles about it ranking on the top. Even if it wasn't intentional, the topic still serves as an opportunity for these people.

  17. ....or maybe it's not a conspiracy, but rather just ironical timing?

    ReplyDelete
  18. This makes sense, but at the same time it's a bit odd.
Why is it even possible that something as significant as legislature could be overshadowed by something as insignificant as the currently occurring scandals?
I mean, I love me some gossip, but if I were a voting citizen of Korea I'd be more concerned about the abuse of political power than Rain x Hyori.
I think it's just the timing.
Just throwing that out there, anyone please feel free to prove me wrong :/

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yep, I didn't realize this until I studied some sociology.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Does this really work in korea? entertainment scandals would never be able to cover up political news in my country.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wasn't GD's drug scandal used to cover up the news of politicians gambling in Korea?

    ReplyDelete
  22. are they supposed to write an article every day about snsd?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Suddenly, I'm a lot more interested to see how THIS particular scandal develops over anything the entertainment world has to offer. The law itself is disgusting, but the fact that something THIS serious — something that legitimately affects EVERYONE in the country — is on the backboard is downright appalling.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maybe. But I thought majority of people in Korea don't really care about kpop. Ok so maybe they care about Rain and the military thing, but I don't think they care about GD, Block B, and Lee Joon and that actress girl whose name I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  25. didn't the same thing happen when gd's marijuana controversy erupted? most people laughed off the vips as delusional.

    ReplyDelete
  26. and there was kang ho dong's scandal right after gd's.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is not the first time something like that has been done - Seo Taiji's scandal was suspected by netizens to be in direct relationship to President Lee Myung Bak's fishy dealings.

"Some netizens are arguing that the timing is a bit fishy; the story of the shocking divorce was released only an hour after news claiming that current Korean president Lee Myung Bak had involvement in stock market manipulation, subsequently drawing the media’s attention away from allegations against the president. This has lead some netizens to think that the government released the news on Seo and Lee in order to protect the president from the Korean public’s interest in the allegations."

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's easy to say that as an outsider who isn't a Korean citizen, but think about the news of your own country - do you, personally, pay more attention to celebrities, or some fishy legislation that doesn't get mass media attention? The mass media and corporations and government all work together for this purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  29. huh ? but it's not like they can control the celebrities 's lives ! the scandals already exist and they top complicatedbecause it's more interesting than politic and also less complicated.

  31. And also lee ji ah and seotaiji scandal was suppose to have been exposed to cover up some big political scandal at the time.

  35. I don't think so, because there's been plenty of incidents where around the time of celebrity scandals, a political scandal has been pushed into the shadows. Like when Seo Taiji and Lee Ji Ah had that scandal, supposedly something pertaining to Lee Myung Bak (the former president of Korea) came up until all of a sudden Seo Taiji was revealed to be married.

I don't believe in coincidences anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I remember when GD scandal came out, they said it was also a cover up for the dirty doings of government;; coz to think that the incident happened May~june but it was reported on September(?). So yeah

    ReplyDelete

    1. Not to mention in Bigbang intro song, still alive.

GD did write about that cover up too. Haha

  37. Hah! I kinda had this thought at the back of mind that it was about politics.

  39. Wouldn't it be nice if it's all a giant set up for april fool's 2013. It'll be the biggest set up for the best troll ever and after 1st april we can all laugh about it and forget it all happened, including SNSD's buy 1 get 4 free song...

....and then SNSD would be like pfft, 'dead unicorns are a joke!' And do a proper come back. Block B would be like 'nahhhh actually we were all properly paid' and Rain's not dating Kim Tae Hee, Joon still has his on screen wife and everyone just condemn Go Young Wook, cos child molestation is no laughing matter. :/

Yeah. That's probably not happening, but it's a beautiful world.

    ReplyDelete
  40. THIS. is even sadder when people actually pay more attention to these kind of issues, knowing what is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I KNEW this was what is going on and this is not something new, I clearly remember that time when Seo Taiji and lee Ji Ah marriage was uncovered. All of the sudden you got to see every single detail about the scandal and all the media reporting more and more facts each day as they were making a discovery. LOL. This is also a way of media play and it's used EVERYWHERE in the world, it's just that,... sometimes somepeople tend to think that korea is special in every sense of the word

    ReplyDelete
  42. I see..
I think it's almost the same in every country..
in my country, the government often release unrelated issue to make the real serious scandal being forgotten..
Though the issue they used still about political topic, not about entertainment..

    ReplyDelete
  43. Over here, the entertainment industry isn't even relevant when the words 'politicians' and 'government' is uttered, lolz.

    ReplyDelete
  44. well..that true coz our entertainment industry are not as big as kpop...plus we are not some freaking fan or netizen who obsess with their idol, and only live to stalk them...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, much obsession will destroy our sense to things that should be more priority.

      Delete
  45. Politicians in any given country are bound to be horribly corrupt. Yet they are the ones we trust to run our countries sadly :/

But to your second point, thankfully there is a cap on how much money our president and government officials can make in a year so they are still forced to care about their job somewhat... although they too are still lacking.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It kind of sad when all the media team up with the govt and their very own citizens are more interested with all the gossips rather than the future of their state.

    ReplyDelete
  47. not really.
and Gdragon did consume Marijuana, people didn't event it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rain's, Lee Jang Woo & Oh Yeon Seo's, Go Young Wook's, Jang Nara's, GD and Kiko's, these ones I think they are being used for the government, but SNSD is just bad luck, because of a bad song. And now Block B's "scandal", what will tomorrow brings? That's crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The reason I said this was because I DO care about legislation much more than I do celebrities.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not surprising actually. Esp for Rain's case. I mean, I understand the netizen's rage towards him. But the military making him go on trial was abit of a stretch, since the military was the one who granted him those leaves, wasnt it? So it would have been immoral, but not illegal. The govt may have a hand in this, I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  51. No one saying he didn't smoke it but that it was used as a cover up, which was obvious since the incident happened in May and wasn't reported on until Sept when it was more convenient for the politicians. Just like ppl didn't necessarily invent these celebs dating or that Seo Taiji was divorcing

    ReplyDelete
  52. And they said T-ara's scandal was created to divert attention away from the government's plan to privatise the Incheon airport.

But wouldn't entertainment news be filtered out if people were reading the business/politic section of the news website?

    ReplyDelete
  53. It seems fishy but i didnt think entertainment news would trump over political news especially regarding something this important. Either way that's really sad that those voted in to serve are serving themselves leaving others with nothing..
