ReplyDeleteI don't know about this manipulating business but as a person who is not a fan of either, I really have to say that lately sistar's songs have been amazing. i never really liked sistar but loving u and alone definitely hit the mark. On the other hand secrets last couple of songs have really been nothing special. Just.... alright. It might be chart manipulating but honestly sister's been killing it.
DeleteI did a quick search so I'm just skimming details here but it seems Kim Moo Yeol was put in for active duty service but he kept delaying it by lying about taking various examinations. In that time, he was building up his career and pulling in a hefty income... and then when he couldn't delay any longer, he asked for exemption because he was poor and needed to make $ to support himself/family. Eventually, he just enlisted as one of those celebrity soldiers.

But lets say that they did, Alone charted on Melon Top 50 for 5 months and Loving You charted for 4 months in the Top 50 and currently is still charting, it takes a lot of money to manipulate the charts, so what ur saying is Starship Ent who is not a rich company themselves paid people for Sistar to chart that long? I dont think so the fact that Sistar's songs have longevity power proves that they didnt manipulate the charts bc you can manipulate only for so long until they fall of the rankings but Sistar is still charting.
The thing with Korea unless ur like a hard core fan that people usually dont go look up and download songs same like in America unless they hear it over the radio or being played on TV, coffee shops, malls etc. The only songs that get played everywhere are the songs that Chart in the top 10. So if a song doesnt chart well than most people assume that it is a bad song and dont even listen to it.

ReplyDeleteAnd considering Eungyo did so well critically and probably one of KMY's best work he must have wanted to rake the successes of it before he left. And when he was getting really popular he just didnt want to go anymore. I sort of understand but Hyun Bin left right after Secret Garden got super ultra mega popular so that probably sucks even more but he still served as active duty.
I'm not going to explain it all because ash has done most of it. But it's a little sad that as a fan you feel the need to demerit others because of their lack of popularity and success. SISTAR is always promoting non stop, their song are popular with the general public that's why they are where they are.

Agree. I'm not a fan, but they were quite popular during their "Madonna" and "Magic" promotions. They were Sistar's rivalries, but now Sistar has advanced far ahead in terms of music and popularity. Secret is a talented group, so I hope their company is able to find them better songs and promote them better.

TBH I expected more from SECRET their new songs are not good.
looks like TS Ent. focused too much of their efforts on B.A.P. and Secret took a hit. it's a shame, since their members are talented. I agree with netizens; ever since Love is Move, their songs have decreased in quality.

ReplyDeleteDigital charts require Korean ID, one ID per person per download. It's illegal to buy back or in this case manipulate the charts and there exists illegal businesses that can help achieve that but requires a hefty sum of money. And in this case it's dubious that Starship can afford all the money for a 9 months time frame for 2 songs to stay on the chart for that long. It will cause them a fortune before the whole company tumbles down.

ReplyDeleteYou can't really judge a group's success because their new promotions are not taking off. A group always comes back and so, the popularity of Korean groups depends on being consistent. Are they going up? or they have been in an equilibrium? To say that SECRET HAS failed is too early to say. What is more appropriate is that, they haven't been improving as much or putting good songs for these recent comebacks they have. They have to step it up and achieve further.
