New Jeans' 'OMG' music video calling out haters as mentally ill earns a mixed response

Article: New Jeans 'OMG' MV last scene might make some haters flinch

1. [+171] The comment they depicted wasn't even a hate comment about the singers, it was a criticism directed at the music video and the director decided to use New Jeans as their shield to tie them into sensitive topics like mental hospitals and mental illness... This music video feels like a selfish move from the director.

2. [+107] I don't get why Calm Down Man was in the music video ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+64] Anyone shielding this is either the director or Min Hee Jin herself

4. [+40] The fact that people are uncomfortable with this means it has succeeded as performance art

5. [+34] Like the comment in the music video says, the public wants to see idols dancing and singing in an idol music video, not the inner thoughts of the director of the music video... It actually turned me off how blatant the director was with forcing their intent through the video. Most of us just came to see an idol music video and suddenly the director's screaming at us like "why are you hating on my music video!!!!" out of no where, what do you want us to do... and why is New Jeans being used as your human shields to express your viewpoint?

6. [+14] Whatever the intent of the music video was, I don't think it's a good thing that the director chose to use a comment that was more criticism than hate as a connection to mental illnesses

7. [+12] Funny how the scene is meant to poke fun at all the triggered people and people are really getting triggered over it

8. [+19] If you're triggered by this, how do you exist in real life...? Instead of wasting your time nitpicking at things to hate on them for, why not try to understand the real meaning behind the message? Unless you're a hater yourself, there's no reason this should trigger you~

9. [+21] ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Looks like there are a lot of people in the comments here that need to follow Minji to the mental hospital

10. [+7] Please.. stop looking at things through such a twisted lens. It's just a music video with a unique concept, something that we don't normally see with idols. It might feel different but you can just attempt to understand it instead of refusing to understand it at all.

1. [+185] Out of the recent idol debuts, I don't think I've seen a group like New Jeans where the public has responded so favorably to. This music video feels more like something that should be released by a group that's been in 3-4 years of scandals and controversies, not a barely debuted group... Just feels like the director used them to get their own personal point across, and I don't get why New Jeans had to be caught in the crossfire of it

2. [+126] I do think it was crossing the line to produce an idol MV based around a mental hospital

3. [+113] It is wrong of them to use a mental hospital as a concept for their music video. There are so many people suffering under the stigmas that music videos like this create. For Min Hee Jin and the MV director to act like anyone who says anything to them needs to go to a mental hospital just means they view the public as nothing but bugs.

4. [+102] It's wrong for them to equate haters with those in a mental hospital. And criticizing music videos is rightful criticism and not hate. If you can't even handle that, quit the entertainment industry.

5. [+97] I think the point at 0:25 is right. The MV would make sense if it was a jab towards accounts like Sojang but there's nothing but praise for New Jeans on platforms like Twitter. The only hate they're getting is to Min Hee Jin or their agency so for them to talk about haters on Twitter as their music video concept makes no sense.

6. [+88] I kept wondering why New Jeans was put on an internet stream and now I'm thinking that Min Hee Jin doesn't want a girl group limited to a female-only fandom like Red Velvet and f(x) but a group that also has a male fandom and liked by both. That's the only reason why she would put them on Calm Down Man's stream, a stream that women don't really watch... I don't get this decision. And I honestly see this music video as her using the girls as a shield against all the hate she's been getting. I've never seen a CEO behave like this..

7. [+84] It was already weird that Calm Down Man was in their MV but I felt especially sorry for New Jeans when they had to go on his stream, too ㅋㅋ The group is known for their teenager concept so for these young girls to have to sit there on some ajusshi's live stream.. totally felt like some adult forced them there so they just blankly did what they were told to do. These streams are better suited for rappers or older idols.

8. [+66] Not sure what Calm Down Man was doing in the MV for considering he has a history of leaving comments on DC Gallery calling girls "busted". If Min Hee Jin wants to alienate the girls from their female fandom, then let her get what she wants.

9. [+46] I personally really love New Jeans. However, I had to wonder why they'd include something so controversial in their 'OMG' MV... I don't want New Jeans to get hate because of Min Hee Jin...

10. [+42] The last scene of the MV totally felt like Min Hee Jin being stubborn about all the hate she got for 'Cookie' and lashing out over it. Funny how she always talks about needing to be careful because she's working with minors and yet she refuses to let her own stubborn ideas go. She doesn't seem like a healthy adult to be around.

11. [+22] This is why I'm always put off by CEOs like her who are always on TV and putting themselves at the forefront. She's the one getting hate so why is she dumping that on a New Jeans music video? Classy's CEO is using them in this way too.

12. [+15] All of the kids who watched this and were like "omg the big picture" are seriously missing IQ points

13. [+75] It's funny that they included this because New Jeans as a whole has rarely gotten hate since they were known as an all-minor group so I was like what hate is the MV talking about? ㅋㅋㅋ But now that two of the members are becoming adults this year, who knows how long the minor shield will last

14. [+52] The male fandom never even cared about New Jeans as a whole, just Haerin. It's obvious Min Hee Jin is trying to target them but it's never going to work.

15. [+56] 'OMG' sucks anyway, 'Ditto' is much better
