Article: 'Halloween' has become a banned word in the broadcast + performance industry, erasing all traces of it... "as it should be vs this is going too far"

1. [+1,753] We should be figuring out ways to fix what's wrong and make sure this doesn't happen again. When the Sewol Ferry tragedy happened, we also tried to get rid of school trips and made no advancements from what caused the problem in the first place.

2. [+475] The holiday should've always been limited to little kids sharing candy. This happened because adults tainted the essence of the holiday and used it for their own commercial reasons.

3. [+345] Do people think erasing the word will make everything that happened go away???? This is such a ridiculous method of dealing with it

4. [+241] But Halloween itself was never the issue. This all happened because a huge crowd formed for an event that wasn't under any control. At this rate, why not just close up Itaewon too ㅡㅡ

5. [+201] This is going too far, isn't it? It may not be our holiday but it's a holiday that's enjoyed all over the world. Just because a terrible tragedy happened in regards to it doesn't mean you get rid of the whole thing. It's not like viewers are the ones coming forward saying Halloween makes them uncomfortable, why is the industry going so far without asking anyone else what they think?

6. [+102] I don't think the industry understands the crux of the matter. The point of this tragedy is that we all need to work towards having a better security system in place to protect our citizens, that we all need to learn order in crowds, so that none of this happens ever again...

7. [+307] They're way out of line. If an accident were to happen on a subway line, are they going to get rid of that entire subway line? We're technically in a countrywide mourning period until Saturday so I'll follow orders till then but I don't think people are going to comply with industries getting rid of a whole holiday like this.

8. [+82] I don't think the industry is trying to eliminate Halloween, just erasing it during the mourning period, which I think is the right thing to do.

9. [+66] Perhaps we should be more concerned with making sure that the alleyway in Itaewon is safer...

10. [+74] Surely this is because Halloween might now cause a trauma response in some people?

11. [+53] We have a ton of fireworks and cherry blossom festivals all year long, with crowds that rival that of what we've seen in Itaewon. I guess we should rip out all of our cherry blossom trees too?

12. [+41] I think this is a good thing. There are a lot of people suffering from PTSD because of this incident.
