Hallyu sets its sights on China
Article: Hallyu trend picks up wind in China once again... but is it substantial?
Source: News Y via Naver
Article talks about how dramas (like '3 days', 'You Who Came From the Stars', 'The Heirs', etc) and variety shows are picking up again in China but it's not being translated into Hallyu success for companies since it's mostly the individual stars that are gaining brand value out of it and there are still a lot of broadcast restrictions placed by China.
1. [+771, -19] Compared to other countries, Hallyu still has a lot to gain from China.
2. [+767, -55] I really liked the actors for The Heirs but the plot itself was so makjang... I could hardly believe they were high schoolers.
3. [+691, -19] We can't force Hallyu. We just have to keep doing what we've been doing. If it's good content, other countries will recognize it and come find it on their own. Just like Gangnam Style, just like 'You Who Came From the Stars', they have to find interest in it first before we force it onto them. The more we produce content for the foreign audience in mind, the more they won't care.
4. [+407, -17] I'd still say that Korean culture has solidified a position in China, though
5. [+59, -4] Yeah, there's really nothing special to Hallyu content. It's all up to the individual actors to create hits and make all of the money in China.

Article: Japan? America? No, it's China! K-Pop changes focus to China
Source: OSEN via Naver
Article talks about how China might be the future destination of Hallyu and how a lot of idols are already making the move a focus despite the high expenses involved.
1. [+21, -4] This is why idols aren't cultural icons but commercial products. They move where the money is.
2. [+21, -5] I think actors do better in China than idols... Actors aren't just popular to Hallyu fans but to the general public. As long as they manage their popularity consistently, they can be recognized like Jang Nara and Park Hae Jin.
3. [+18, -4] I won't be easy to break in to the western market since they tend to look down on Asians on top of having an advanced culture of their own.
4. [+12, -4] miss A's actually not that popular in China. A mystery since they have two Chinese members.
