KARA to go on a Japanese Arena tour later this year

Reader request.

Article: KARA, to go on Japanese Arena tour in October "The biggest scale in history"

Source:
Joy News via Naver

1. [+79, -23] Since when is 140,000 the most in history when other groups are bringing in 400,000 member audiences? Get out with the media play.

2. [+91, -40] I was a KARA fan but stopped after I saw the members stabbing each other in the backs... I don't know if they can recover their image in Korea but it seems they're still doing well in Japan (TN: I have no idea what this is talking about)

3. [+77, -28] My Japanese friend told me that KARA's barely even mentioned on Japanese TV anymore... I guess that's how they're all forgotten. There's only so much a foreign group can do.

4. [+61, -23] This tour might be KARA's last Japanese concert. Their albums in the past year haven't been selling at all and their popularity in Japan has been waivering.

5. [+61, -24] I don't get why the article is calling it the biggest scale in history when the concert is actually a downgrade from their first tour...

6. [+71, -36] Not too fond of KARA.. Their songs are nasally, they can't act, and all they do is sit around uploading fake bare faced photos on Twitter.

7. [+42, -12] The tour is a downgrade from their first tour and yet they still media play it as the 'biggest scale in history'... KARA's first Arena tour was 6 cities with 150,000 audience members... This one's barely 140,000.

8. [+46, -18] Poor KARA fans, KARA only cares about Japan... and can someone please stop Seungyeon from acting.. She's reading out of a textbook, for Pete's sake.

  2. They don't even have big venues outside Asia. All groups make more money from concerts in Japan.Look at big bang dates, 80% of it are in Japan.

  3. hallyu wave started with stupid songs like sorry sorry and gee gee so blame those

seems like korean music industry will become like the american one
boy/girl bands are nonexistent except for like 2

    omg

  12. You don't get the point of the article though. They are claiming that it's going to be "the biggest scale in history" which means that the current planned 140k is already the biggest.

    And TVXQ has 850k. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, thats one thing i do like about it. For example K Hip Hop: Zion-T, Dynamic Duo etc, etc are starting to get noticed and other korean singers and bands like Nell. :-)
Even from the program Immortal Song 2. For example recent : a singer called Moon Myung Jin, an amazing veteran R&B/Soul singer who i discovered trough that show. :-D

ah are you talking about the title?..hahaha
the TITLE is total FAILURE.. i don't know why they put that ridiculous title ..

  17. Yeah, the lawsuit was basically their parents doing with Nicole's mom as the ringleader. I think the reason Hara backed out of it early on was because she didn't fully understand and it wasn't fully explained to her, seeing as her parents weren't involved with the suit at all and she was barely 20 at the time & I think Gyuri and her mom (who has a lot more knowledge about the entertainment business since she was a voice actor) were never in agreement with the idea.

Oh! And another reason that I think Hara backed out, was that the parents (Jiyoung's, Nicole's, and Seungyeon's) filled the report while she was out of the country filming the King of Idols or some other holiday special.

maybe the hallyu wave will fall and something else will over take it
like, idk... the k-indie/underground/hip hop wave XD

like, i don't think international attention to korean culture is falling, just the idol stuff

    ReplyDelete
  19. do you understand that timing is very important?
It's very easy to snatch the oricon top five daily chart when any big groups are not releasing anything

You know they flopped hard when anime character song single can beat them on the chart

    ReplyDelete
  20. what last snsd single? Love&Girls? because it came out last week officially and is still selling. Compare that to SNSD's Girls&Peace which was the last japanese release before Love&Girls which sold 116k in it's first week

  21. SNSD last single is Love and Girls

    ReplyDelete
  47. What about them?more popular than big bang and 2pm?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes! BigBang and TVXQ are always mentioned on magazines as the best k-pops groups. Plus, haven't you heard all the praising Daesung new Japanese album hit daebak, he is the first ever Korean singer to have his album on an A-list nomination of The Best Japanese Fover Album, all the tickets for all of his concerts were sold out. And as far as I know BB is pretty famous, even here overseas, people that don't care about k-pop recognize BB once they hear it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. lmao tell me ur joking right?!?? the current TVXQ have achieved more success than the old TVXQ5 ever managed in Japan before. simplest example, TVXQ5 performed in front of a little over 250K fans for their Secret Code Tour. Current TVXQ will be performing to over 800,000 fans in Japan alone, and many insiders believe that they will be adding more dates due to incredibly high demand.

only a fool would think that TVXQ2 is not as popular as TVXQ5 in Japan.

I feel a lot of K-indie/ballad (you know sweet-music) stuff (Akdong Musician and Busker Busker) is really popular with the Korean public. Also, K-hip hop has been getting bigger and bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not the point...June 24, 2013 at 9:23 PM

No...I think TVXQ is still doing pretty damn well in Japan...I'm not even a Cassie but, I've heard that TVXQ is kinda regarded like J-pop singers (ie well respected despite being Korean).

I don't think Kara started the BOOM. They were a part of it.

BoA and TVXQ opened doors (BoA first). I think SNSD and Kara pretty much went around the same time, and a bunch of other K-artists followed...

But right now I think Kara has more popularity than SNSD in Japan...*I think*

    ReplyDelete
  67. OfficialKARALoverJune 24, 2013 at 9:28 PM

    what do you mean???

KARA becomes the first female Korean artist to hold concert at the Tokyo Dome ("The girls kicked off their concert titled ‘KARASIA 2013 Happy New Year in Tokyo Dome‘ on the 6th at 6PM and the girls sold out all 45,000 tickets to the concert in under 5 minutes.")

    ReplyDelete
  76. They already performed at the Tokyo Dome. They were the first and so far still the only, Korean girl group to hold an exclusive concert at the Tokyo dome

    ReplyDelete

    no

    ReplyDelete
  88. Not the point...June 24, 2013 at 9:43 PM

I think only the REALLY popular groups manage their ground in Japan (seeing as a lot of Japanese people aren't that into Kpop anymore)...so basically TVXQ, BB, SNSD, Kara, 2PM. (there may be more, I just didn't list them).

Anyways, it's hard on K-idols to promote in Japan too because there's so many different genres of music and their idol market is pretty damn huge as well...so...it's tough competition.

    ReplyDelete
  89. OfficialKARALoverJune 24, 2013 at 9:44 PM

Eh...she could use some. I think it's better...I remember she's the one with the 20 inch waist right? I freaked out cause' it seemed like it was too small or something...o.o her waist still looks tiny...anyways...K-idols gaining weight=healthier...at least in my opinion...

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think this is less media play, more poor journalism.
Why would the company media play a concert tour smaller than their last tour as the biggest in history. I think this journalist is just confused. I know, numbers are hard, you add a couple extra zeros and its like why bother double checking right?

    ReplyDelete
  96. And I doubt they can reach the current Tohoshinki's scale.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Yes, BoA is still very relevant in Japan. She's actually suppose to go back to Japan this summer and will release another album. She hasn't been there in a year, but before that she was there for about 2 years. She's a part of Avex, one of the best labels in Japan, and is one of their top 5 artists. TVXQ is also under the same label.

  114. First off, TVXQ still exists. TVXQ is still doing pretty well or better. They are doing things that they couldn't do before. They are also going to perform at the Nissan Stadium which is much more of an honor than the Tokyo Dome.

    ReplyDelete
  115. SNSD and KARA's popularity in Japan spiked over tvxq during 2011 but that's only because they were the front of the massive kpop frenzy in Japan then. That phase passed quickly and all the kpop groups that got so much attention then are pretty irrelevant now. SoKa still have decent fanbases but it's nothing compared to tvxq who dug their own place out and planted real roots in Japan.

I'm saying this as a massive snsd stan lol, SoKa hit it big in 2011 but that doesn't make them top groups

  126. In just the last year, both Bigbang and TVXQ held much bigger Concert Tours in Japan than 140k. I dont follow 2PM but they probably had a bigger concert tour in Japan also.

    1) Bigbang had 6 Dome Jpn Concerts (not Arena but Dome) in November/December 2012
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang_Alive_Galaxy_Tour_2012

    2) TVXQ had the TONE Concert Tour (2012) and is currently having the TVXQ Live Tour (2013) that both will have over 400k concert attendance
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TVXQ_concert_tours

If they are only talking about girl kpop groups only, then Girls Generation (SNSD) just held their 2nd Arena Tour in Japan where the held 20 concerts and about 250k to 300k people attended

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_%26_Peace_Japan_2nd_Tour

Below is a picture from one of SNSD's Saitama Concerts. The Saitama Super Arena can hold as much as 37k people. SNSD held 6 concerts at Saitama as part of their 2nd Japanese Arena Tour.

As much as I love soshi it's ridic that they've been promoting in Japan for 3 years only only like 2.5 members have a decent grasp on the language.

  140. "140,000 biggest in scale for a girl group"
    wrong snsd had the biggest.

"140,000 biggest in scale for male groups"
still wrong because dbsk and kara is a girl group

no matter how you put it it still wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  141. 'robbing an empty house'

    ReplyDelete
  142. Kara's still more relevant in Japan than most Hallyu exports these days, lol. Of course they're not selling as much because they're not promoting as hardcore as they did in 2011 but still. 140k for a girl group is a lot for a shrinking market.

And when I was staying in Japan, if I did see a Korean idol, it would be Kara or DBSK beyond Shin-Okubo in Tokyo or Koreatown in Osaka. They still have popular appeal.

Anyway, I just agree with your comment.

  151. Just mediaplay. TXVQ and Bigbang have held much bigger concerts tours in Japan. I think 2PM even had much bigger concert tours in Japan.

Even if you separate boy and girl kpop concert tours in Japan, SNSD just finished their 2nd Japanese Arena Tour where about 250k - 300k people attended which is a much bigger attendance than 140k.

    ReplyDelete
  160. if you are referring to ournia's comment about the strategy of bulk buying CDs in order to get tickets to concerts, TVXQ does not use that strategy.

i am a member of their bigeast fanclub, and we do not need to buy many CDs (or even any copy) in order to win any tickets to go to their concerts/fanmeets.

we enter ballots in order to go to those, and winning is based on our luck. and no purchases are needed.

SNSD and KARA are different. They do not have fanclubs i believe, and have no ballot system because of this that their fans can use. so their companies have to come up with other ways on top of selling tickets through official ticket sellers.

    LOL...hehehehehe

    ReplyDelete
  162. it's more easy if u doing that in Tokyo Dome. I remember SJ SS4 concert at:
    Tokyo Dome = 55.000 x 2 = 110.000 people
    Kyocera Dome Osaka = 40.000 x 2 = 80.000 people
    ____________
    190.000 for 2 places.

imagine if SJ puts much effort for Japan arena tours, I guess they will draw more people.

Idk about others stadium in Japan :3

    ReplyDelete
  163. I think it's more of them cost cutting cause why would you need to media play for TVXQ? They already produce good results w/o having to.

    EXO however...

    ReplyDelete
  164. I used to be a fan of KARA but I stopped after I realized that the only reason I liked them was because DSP knows how to pick good songs for them. The girls themselves are so boring to watch and lack singing talent. Seungyeon is the best singer, yet she's average if you compare her to other girl group members. Lipsyncing is something that I ABSOLUTELY can't stand and they do it so often that I can't follow them anymore.

I still enjoy their songs but I refuse to call myself a fan.

And the only reason they're in the news is for their selcas, which are not all that amazing tbh.

yes... Ofc its SJ ..hehehehe they are popular ..

    ReplyDelete
  168. nope tohoshinki do not use that strategy. if say big east (tohoshinki's fanclub) wants to go to the fan meeting (which is held annually i think), they have to first sign up to the official club and then if you are lucky you get picked to go to the fan meeting. if you do buy their cds (which i do), we get the normal usual stuff like; making of the music video, their pv and sometimes other pv is included in the cd too.

even when tohoshinki just started in japan, what they had was this 'card meeting' i think. its where if ppl are interested in them you can meet up with tohoshinki and they give your a card about them so you get to know them.

  176. "The biggest scale in history"....where did it say "in history" in the title? I think the writer was saying "the biggest scale ever" FOR KARA, which is true this will be bigger than their first. I think NB purposely mistranslated it because they want comments from tvxq and snsd fans who regularly visit this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  177. yes, we do need to buy a copy of the album in order to ballot and attend. after all it is a TIME album release commemorative event, and one copy of the album is all that's needed for proof of purchase.

but i thought we are talking about bulk buying strategy??
because that's what i was commenting on .... that TVXQ does not require their fans to bulk buy anything in order to ballot and attend concert/events etc.

Well you are you talking about singing ...everyone had their own taste and differences ..I've watch hundreds of KARA's live perf .and i'm amaze specially HARA who always in her level not trying hard..

but in the end of the day ..its your own opinion after all..

i don;t argue if the topic is talent because its personal opinion ..i'm just here about their RECORDS and Achievement ..

    thank you

    ReplyDelete
  188. They HAVE achieved a lot in Japan, that I won't argue about.

But since this IS a KARA article, I think it's ok to discuss other aspects of their music.

I understand that you're a KARA fan and you'll always defend them but really.. "specially HARA who always in her level not trying hard.." --> what is that supposed to mean?

Why does Hara get special treatment as if it's ok for her to be mediocre? I HAVE heard her sing .. if you can even call it that.. and I have yet to be impressed. She can barely hold a tune. Nicole has potential but that nasally voice needs to go. They should've all gotten vocal training years ago because none of them can sing without straining their voices.

    ReplyDelete
  189. OfficialKARALoverJune 25, 2013 at 2:04 AM

I can't defend them about Music talent because in my opinion KARA did great and improve a lot ..specially Jiyoung can sing any very well now with guitar ..and gyuri she's a pianist and actress ...seungyen voice is my most favorite ..and Nicole musically talented and Best Dancer too ..HARA improve a lot ..she's always average and never get exaggerated about her singing level DSP giving her right parts of the song... so that's my taste of music ..even some people don't like it ..well its my taste after all..

but in terms of records and achievement ..i can defend KARA because i have all details .

    ReplyDelete
  190. SNSD 2nd Arena Tour = 20 concerts (the tour was originally 14 dates but it was increased to 20 concerts because of the high demand)

    1) Six concerts @ Saitama Arena (Max Capacity 37k)

    2) Fourteen concerts @ other venues with average max capacities of around 8k - 12k

So what exactly do you mean you dont know how it is possible to reach 300k? It is very easy to reach 300k because SNSD had 6 concerts at Saitama (6 x 37k = 222k) assuming SNSD soldout all venues. And SNSD adding 6 more concerts to their tour tells you that there was demand.

    ReplyDelete
  191. sorry but may I say that you're an idiot? What's the wrong hell with "disband"? Now that you say they disband? Oh girl, SM and AVEX still use the name "TVXQ!" If you aren't a member of their fandom, just don't comment this stupid question. It's so immature!
