TIME grades Psy's Superbowl CF a D-

Article: TIME magazine criticizes Psy's Superbowl CF

Source: Dispatch via Nate [TIME]

When Wonderful Pistachios shot this commercial, it wrongly assumed that “Gangnam Style” was about to become a historic piece of pop culture and not a one-hit wonder whose appeal wouldn’t outlast the New Year. There’s little effort here to even remix the song or make it especially relevant to nut lovers. Too lazy, too late.

Grade: D-

1. [+106, -5] I remember a program telling Psy to be careful whenever he's signing a contract... They advised him not to pick up every CF or show offer that came his way because it was to his benefit to delay those things... Like they said in the past, a song only sounds good the first couple times you listen to it.

2. [+76, -5] I really hope his follow-up song hits daebak.........

3. [+59, -3] Looks like TIME knows how to criticize. If any journalist in the Korean media tried this, they'd be thrown out.

4. [+16, -0] They didn't criticize Psy's skills but rather the CF company for not being able to utilize Psy to the best quality content they could produce. The criticism is going towards the advertisement company, not Psy.

5. [+16, -8] They're sick of the song? We're about to throw up over here because we've listened to it so much.

6. [+13, -16] Looks like the bubble's about to burst... It seems his popularity will depend on the success of his follow-up song.

7. [+12, -0] I think the criticisms are right. Your long term image suffers if you focus only on short term profit.

8. [+8, -0] I often see Psy being compared to the Macarena hit and I think that there's a huge chance he could end up disappearing like Los del Rio. There's something called a sophomore jinx where stars get too popular with their debut and never live up to that with their second work. This is a difficult moment for Psy since it basically determines his career.

9. [+8, -2] Chin up, Psy

10. [+4, -0] To Koreans who are sensitive and competitive with points and rankings, the criticism hits hard. I think Americans only read these things for fun, though.
