'Squid Game 3' earns a divided response
Article: 'Squid Game 3' Director Hwang Dong Hyuk on why he changed the ending
Source: MBC via Nate
[+514, -49] The series is a flop. The best ending would've been one that was slightly corny but still fit the plot.. Just throwing it all in there to get the ending that you personally want isn't the way to do it
[+448, -33] It's a flop. You can tell he was trying to go for a sad family story thematically but it just didn't work
[+420, -26] The boat cop, the defector, the baby, just way too much going on
[+41, -3] They never should've gone with the baby plot. It would've been better if Lee Jung Jae was able to fool all of them into becoming the frontman and destroying the world from the inside out. Unfortunately, Lee Jung Jae's character never displayed that type of intelligence from the first season, so
[+38, -4] There were a lot more mainstream elements in the first season but you could tell the director was trying to get way too artistic with the second and third seasons that it just ended up flopping
[+35, -2] So what exactly was Wi Ha Joon's role?
[+33, -1] He needed to let the series be the commercial success it was meant to be. He tried too hard with all these themes and meanings for the sake of art when he needed to just let the audience enjoy what they all tuned in for... This is the biggest problem with Korean media in general, they always want to end something good with a big lesson or theme that ruins what made it good.
[+29, -6] He wants to be Bong Joon Ho so bad..
[+28, -2] While watching, all I could think was... seriously, who wrote this?
[+26, -0] The director is like Sung Gi Hoon... just managed to luck out.
[+24, -1] Even better would be Wi Ha Joon finding the island, getting a number, and joining the games. What did Lee Byung Hun even do in the third season other than sit there with a few lines? All Lee Jung Jae did was frown the entire time too... while the side characters were doing way too much.
[+24, -6] The baby's CG was so uncanny that I couldn't get into it at all ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[+21, -1] The director's seen way too many Hollywood movies... that frail little grandma managed to kill her son in one shot, then sat around talking after his death, then killed herself ㅜ What mother in the world would kill her own son over some random woman and her baby she met four days ago?
[+19, -1] So many good series ruined by the writer suddenly wanting to leave a big message to the world...
[+17, -1] Still don't get the point of the shaman character
[+16, -1] Should've ended it at 1... 2 and 3 were such hard flops

[+1,110, -78] The director was arrogant. Casting TOP, trying to force all these themes that didn't make sense... in the end, he alienated all of his viewers.
[+820, -82] The director just doesn't have the chops for something this big
[+97, -4] I want to know what he was writing that made his teeth fall out when there was nothing even worth watching? Seemed more like he was getting a ton of casting calls and so he wanted to get them all some good lines so he was squeezing in this and that. The season spent way too long on showing the faces during voting scenes instead of getting to the good stuff like more of Lee Byung Hun's story.
[+78, -3] The director himself was Sung Gi Hoon, riding off of nothing but luck all this time
[+64, -5] He's talking like he's some world class director ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[+59, -12] I don't know that he's going to get another opportunity like this... this was probably the worst series I've ever watched in 42 years
[+42, -2] No matter what he says in these interviews, it's not going to save the fact that his drama itself flopped. No one cares that you lost teeth over writing this show.
[+38, -3] He lost teeth over writing something as pathetic as this? All the netizen fanfics were better than what he came up with in the end.
[+22, -0] It really just felt like he wrote this while being chased on time

[+482, -92] Was Lee Jung Jae ever good at acting?
[+439, -22] The show started and ended with a baby...
[+65, -3] Well, Lee Jung Jae was never known as an actor for his good skills... I reckon the show would've hit daebak if Lee Byung Hun led 2 and 3 as a frontman spinoff story.
[+59, -2] Switching Lee Byung Hun and Lee Jung Jae might've been more impactful. His skills would've been crazy as Gi Hoon. Lee Jung Jae always felt a bit awkward.
[+54, -0] Why was Lee Jin Wook in this? Was barely in half the season, and in the scenes we did see, he was laying down the whole time ㅋ This season felt more like a display of Im Siwan's acting skills
[+51, -2] Once the baby was born, it became too obvious... you can't help but center the plot around the baby after that. No one's going to kill a baby... I don't get why they'd include such an obstacle.
[+45, -1] No clear story of how Lee Byung Hun became the frontman, his dongsaeng just went on an island excavation the entire time before saying "hyung" once and never finding out why his hyung is even there ㅋㅋㅋ I guess the message at the end is that no matter how much you put your life on the line to win something, it's all a lotto in the end ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[+36, -4] So boring, even an elementary school student could come up with a plot like this
[+27, -1] It was over after the baby was born
[+21, -2] Im Siwan's acting was the best out of them all
[+19, -2] Lee Jung Jae was a good fit in Squid Game but that doesn't mean his acting's good... his lack of skills was especially obvious in 2 and 3.
[+19, -1] Lee Jung Jae always has that same face ㅋ
