A lioness was killed when she escaped 20 years of captivity. The ordeal required an hour of tracking by 160 people before she was shot and killed. The death has caused deep sorrow due to the fact that she was born and raised in captivity and was known to be docile. She remained 30 meters from her cage and had been said to have quietly remained there for the hour she had escaped outside. Rescue efforts clarified that they had to kill her out of fear of risks to humans in the area.

[+423, -59] I thought the same as well... If only they had been able to capture her alive...

[+460, -121] Can people please stop bringing up dart guns;; You remember the zebra that escaped earlier this year, right?? He had seven darts in him and it still took three hours to catch him. The dart shots made him even crazier and he ended up damaging cars in the frenzy~ This isn't like the movies where an animal just falls over once you hit him with a dart gun. And these dart guns have to get up pretty close to even get a shot. I understand that it's an endangered animal but it's still a wild beast. There was camping grounds nearby as well as regular people living in the area. Can you imagine if the dart gun had actually caused the animal to act more frenzied and run off into a crowd of people? Will it only be then that you'll ask why no one killed the animal on sight?!!!! Every one of the personnel staffed there were professionals and experts with way more knowledge of the situation than you keyboard warriors~;;

[+196, -35] It indeed was the best they could do. I feel sorry for it as well but we couldn't have done anything else. A wild animal is a wild animal. Just because it was raised in the hands of humans doesn't change that. Think of all of the domesticated dogs that still cause deaths? If this lioness had hurt anyone, people would be up in arms demanding to know why it wasn't killed either...

[+104, -10] I don't think this is fair for her to say when she's reading this news from the safety of her own home. A live capture is not as easy as it sounds... it's difficult to even catch a roaming dog.

[+29, -1] I feel upset as well but I have to respect the people who made the decisions that they did on site. If someone had been injured because of a live capture attempt... what would people have said then?

[+59, -40] Did they not have dart guns? Or what?
- [+4, -0] They said they were scared of risking further accidents if the sedation wasn't enough or they missed

[+19, -0] Get rid of all zoos

[+18, -1] And if someone ahd gotten hurt while attempting a live capture?? A wild animal is a wild animal, just because she was raised by humans doesn't make her a vegetarian. Stop bringing emotions into this.

[+16, -2] Funny how if this lioness had been found in her own home, she'd be the first to order everyone to kill it immediately...

[+13, -0] You ask people like this what we should've done instead and their answer is always "I don't know, I just know we shouldn't have killed it." Their emotions always get ahead of any logic or reason.

Article: Sasoonie was shot and killed... "She was sitting still for 20 minutes, was it necessary to kill her?"

Source: Korea Ilbo via Naver

[+1,305, -11] Us humans are doing such cruel things to these animals just because they can't talk

[+900, -4] Locked up for 20 years.. just to get 20 minutes of reprieve in the shade before she left this earth.. this is too sad ㅠㅠ..

[+674, -15] Meanwhile, people with knives out threatening others in public are taken in alive... why would you kill an animal that wasn't doing anything?

[+317, -4] This is too sad ㅠ.ㅠ I remember going to a park and seeing these huge animals all locked up... I couldn't go back again because my heart broke for them. It's so upsetting to think that these animals are locked up all their lives just to die like this. Whose idea was it anyway to even raise these animals like this?

[+178, -7] Sasoon-ah, I pray that you are happy in heaven

[+144, -1] Can we please save the dart guns for animals like this and use the real guns for the knife attackers? We've got the order for this all wrong.

[+86, -0] Such a sad life. Never got a chance to run in the rain or sun for 20 years, stuck on concrete floors without a toy, such a lonely life... And finally, just 20 minutes before her life was taken from her, she got to feel the green grass beneath her feet, the dew on the leaves around her. Could it have brought her happiness? It makes me so sad to think that her life is gone because of her threat to our own safety. Please be at peace wherever you are now.

[+80, -1] And those 20 minutes in the forest were probably the happiest minutes of her life

[+63, -2] If I were her, I think I'd rather be shot to death like this than go back to being caged up for the enjoyment of others. I beg for the day that animals no longer have to live in pain because of the selfishness of humans. I'm so sorry to all of you...

[+52, -1] All she wanted was a reprieve from her life, to enjoy the shade of nature... I hope we all pay the consequences of our crimes.

[+2,969, -94] But really... why did it have to die? All she was doing was sitting calmly in nature. We have dart guns, don't we? Why did we kill her? Who killed her?

[+2,793, -47] It's said that the farmer who owns her inherited her when he bought the property. He never wanted to keep her so he attempted to donate her somewhere but no one wanted her so he kept her reluctantly. People have said that she was raised there since she was a baby so she's always been super friendly with people and has never shown signs of aggression. The day she escaped, he left the door open to give her food, and she stepped out five meters from her cage to look at some people before basically being shot and killed. Hearing her story makes my heart break even more.

[+2,200, -63] I really think she was killed because everyone was too scared to catch her without killing her otherwise...

[+201, -2] All she wanted... was to feel the dirt beneath her... and rest in some shade...

[+192, -7] Her enclosure doesn't even have a roof in this heatwave... It's clear that she just wanted some shade in the forest. Amazing that us humans had to kill her for it.

[+177, -3] Why are we not shooting these knife attack idiots on sight? Why are we killing animals instead?

[+165, -6] I heard she wasn't even going crazy, she was just sitting there... why couldn't we have captured her alive?

[+116, -4] Wait, her enclosure doesn't have a roof...? ㅡㅡ

[+111, -1] Hearing her story makes me sick ㅠㅠ She just... wanted reprieve. Was it necessary to kill her... ㅜㅜ
