[Pann] The reason male idols will never be popular with the public?
Pann: The reason male idols can't become popular with the public
"Men don't listen to songs by male idols. Female idols don't necessarily need to have strong fandoms but will do fine with a bit of public recognition because even women will like them and listen to their music (ex. Mamamoo, Red Velvet, Girlfriend, A Pink). You go to female idol concerts and there are a lot of women, whereas you go to male idol concerts and there are no men at all.
Generally, men don't listen to male idol songs (other than YG. Apparently they listen to Big Bang, Winner, iKON, and Block B, but not units without Zico or solos). Naturally, only fans end up listening to male idol music and their songs end up falling off the charts once promos are over. I'm not an EXO fan but I think unless your fandom is as strong as theirs, it's hard to maintain your position on the charts.
And just the mention of a male idol will have people calling you a stupid fangirl before they even listen to the song while if anyone calls a female idol's song bad, men will be like 'as always, a woman's worst enemy is another woman'.
I'm sure you all know groups like INFINITE, B2ST, SHINee, B1A4, Block B, VIXX, BtoB, BTS, TEEN TOP, Got7. Even if not all the members, you obviously know that their public recognition isn't that bad but one thing they had in common this year was that their digital rank would go up at night, keep falling during the day, and they'd struggle maintaining their position on the charts after promos were over despite high album sales.
As for female idols, their songs are more consistent on the charts because you can't beat the combined power of male + female listeners. They do have lower album sales than male idols though.
That's where the idea that having a high digital rank means you're more popular with the public whereas high album sales means it's just your fandom. Until men find an interest in male idols too, male idols can never be popㅋular with the public. Funny how it's the female fans who end up buying the albums though for even the female idols. Men will never spend a cent on idols.

1. [+137, -7] Men hate male idols and really do only listen to 'Show Me the Money' and Big Bang
2. [+128, -13] I actually can't stand hip hop, it's so funny to me how they act like tryhards while criticizing society
3. [+128, -2] If you look at what men listen to, it's all hip hop ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ teen boys listened to 'Show Me the Money' while teen girls listened to SHINee, B2ST, Big Bang, and BtoB. The poll for the teen males all listed 'Show Me the Money' and one for Big Bang ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
4. [+36, -3] Big Bang has a lot of male fans, I didn't know that was an amazing feat
5. [+29, -0] This is so true... girls will listen to female idol songs and go to their concerts but rarely do guys listen to male idol songs unless it's Big Bang ㅋㅋ they don't care whether the song is good or bad, they'll just call you a stupid fangirl and call you a jealous hater when they're the ons going around male idol articles leaving hateful comments like "they look gay"
6. [+29, -8] God Bang
7. [+23, -2] Guys think that it's always the girls who are jealous haters but they're the ones who make sexual jokes about female celebrities and criticize their plastic work ㅋㅋㅋㅋ both sides need to stop hating and just stop taking an interest in what they hate
8. [+23, -14] I'm a female myself and I rarely listen to male idol songs ㅋㅋㅋ I listen to Big Bang sometimes but the rest are... too tryhard. At least Big Bang has public friendly songs.
9. [+21, -0] Both men and women listen to Big Bang ㅋㅋㅋㅋ people may hate Big Bang but they still enjoy their songs ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
10. [+20, -2] I think it's unfair how men can like female idols and be considered fans but females who like male idols are called stupid fangirls ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
11. [+18, -0] I'm a male and like B2ST. I went to their concert alone just to listen to their music but there were actually a lot of other men. Men who came alone and others who came in groups. B2ST fans were really nice to me as well. I was sitting there alone and they asked if I was here by myself and offered me water, asked which members I liked and gave me a fan? I think.
12. [+16, -8] Stupid fangirls, men don't care about male idols at all. We're simple creatures. Their songs suck and that's why it's not on the charts. What you stupid fangirls are doing are manipulating the broadcast charts so that they win #1 and after they win #1, what happens? They fall straight off the charts. Look at Big Bang... doesn't need to win #1 but are still rolling around on the charts for months now. A good song is most important but stupid fangirls are ruining the purpose of charts.
13. [+16, -3] Men rarely listen to male idols aside from Block B and Big Bang, and more recently iKON?
