TV: 'Real Men' (Amber)

Article: 'Real Men' Amber eventually cries... "I don't know 100 of the words that were just said"

Source:
OSEN via Naver

1. [+19,911, -284] Burst out laughing at "Forget it" ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I have a feeling Amber will be hilarious

2. [+16,664, -221] Can't imagine how frustrating the language barrier must be for her... but that "forget it" at the end... ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+14,790, -218] "For.. for... forget it" ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Hilarious

4. [+11,223, -164] "Forget it"... the one phrase that made me burst out laughing

5. [+2,343, -35] I almost cried with her because I was so proud at how hard she was working through everything despite the difficult language barrier. I did laugh when she said "Forget it", though... She seems likable, like an untainted, innocent soul.

Article: 'Real Men' Amber and Kang Yewon, the two dark horses of the female special

Source: TV Report via Naver

1. [+5,613, -117] Amber's for... for... forget it ㅋㅋㅋ it was daebak

2. [+4,565, -111] Forget it ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I felt bad when I saw her cry but then burst out laughing at that one phrase ㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+3,396, -129] Amber's the best!!! Do well

4. [+785, -25] After getting through push ups and winning #1 in track, why did she look like a little baby when she burst out into tears after trying to hold in her questions because of the language barrier ㅜㅜㅜ I never knew who she was but I can already tell how genuine she is just from the show! Amber fighting ㅋㅋ forget all of your troubles

5. [+696, -27] I feel like she was more upset at being a bother to others by having to ask them questions because of her language barrier...

6. [+660, -19] Amber never saw the light because she's always been buried by Krystal and Sulli so I was so happy to see her on the show ㅜㅜㅜ I honestly thought she'd get hate for how masculine her style is but I think Amber really carried the show today.. I'm so proud. Hope her solo album also hits daebak.

7. [+638, -24] Already calling it that Amber's going to shoot a CF soon with the "forget it" tagline ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Amber, you're doing nothing wrong so find strength! Just imagine your fellow members training at a Chinese army and having to speak Chinese.

  6. Get that love Amber :) Well deserved.

  7. watched it with my dad and he laughed so hard at that part
    Amber is so lovable TT

    ReplyDelete
  8. tbh... i don't really feel bad for amber... i'm an f(x) stan and i love her but she's been living in korea for 6 years, her korean level is not where it should be. I would feel bad for her if she worked hard at learning korean but i've literally never seen her put in an effort besides the mandatory level needed to survive in Korea. Even all her friends speak english.

    ReplyDelete
  22. the difference between her korean and her own bandmate victoria's is amazing lmao. you can tell victoria really works hard.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i'm pretty sure a lot of the terminology used in the military is not the same should would encounter in everyday life in the entertainment industry and with friends though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Amber ♡ such a down to earth and sweet and friendly personality with a passion for music. She's truly one of a kind and has so much potential. I'm so happy that the comments are looking like this. I hope netizens don't try to change her tomboy style but embrace it as who she is.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ah, so the new variety trend is born.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i really forgot she wasnt korean for a moment when i read she will do that reality- i hope she can do better from now on, being not able to communicate is really frustating

    ReplyDelete
  27. for sure, but her korean is poor in general, not just here. it's very apparent in other broadcasts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 6. [+660, -19] Amber never saw the light because she's always been buried by Krystal and Suzy so I was so happy to see her on the show ㅜㅜㅜ I honestly thought she'd get hate for how masculine her style is but I think Amber really carried the show today.. I'm so proud. Hope her solo album also hits daebak.

    ^^^^
But suzy and Krystal not in the same group.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's the point :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. omg i wanted to cry and laugh at the same time after watching it

    ReplyDelete
  31. sure, but i'm sure it would be easier for her to fill in the blanks if she actually spoke korean fluently.

    ReplyDelete
  32. http://youtu.be/cdDHQ9QXedM

Here's the eng subbed for the first ep. There's the short clip of Amber's "forget it" for those who are curious about it haha I actually literally burst out laughing at that part too lol

    but actually I do feel bad for her for the language barrier, look at her crying ;__;

    ReplyDelete
  38. I always get shocked at the level of victoria's korean compared to amber but then again victoria friends are all korean whereas amber i feel like sticks to her overseas counterparts so she never really improves...i was stunned by her level of poor korean when i watched show champion with her as an MC.....if she just tried harder like victoria and was more confident it would be so much better

    ReplyDelete
  39. ommmmmmmmmmmmg i loled so hard. he was sobbbing so hard and for for forget it XD

    ReplyDelete
  40. she looks like a puppy sobs so cute <3

    ReplyDelete
  41. yeah i agree, but it's def not a coincidence that all of ambers' close friends speak english.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Aw, Amber, get that love! <3

(And is that "forget it" is going to be the next "aing"? I doubted RM would be able to create another trend but if they do I'm glad it's Amber)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Suzy is so popular she overshadows people from other groups!
No seriously, nb probably wrote Suzy instead of Sulli

    ReplyDelete
  50. So first it was Hyeri's ageyo now it's Amber's Forget it. haha

*hope this is a new start for Amber, for more opptys, just like Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Its a fan thing. Amber acknowledges it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Kangnam hit #1 for a while didn't he? Better than he did before his fame, at least.

And Henry did win quite a few music shows, so I wouldn't exactly call it a flop. I think it god the attention it deserved, because tbh it wasn't good enough for it to achieve all-kills or anything

    ReplyDelete
  53. Amber is the new Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  54. aghh I feel so proud lol

    ReplyDelete
  55. Aww, I'm sure she'll work harder to improve. Go get some tips from Vic! :D

    ReplyDelete

  57. Get the llama life with the llama song

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, she actually did the best in terms of the fitness training or w.e it's called. But the media only writes on what will get attention more :P

    ReplyDelete
  59. thats what im talking about :/

    ReplyDelete
  60. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO K-DRAMAS. I FEEL YOU AMBER.

    ReplyDelete
  61. is korean really really difficult? Amber's korean is very poor.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Where can I watch this with eng sub?

    ReplyDelete
  63. i understand where you're coming from but learning a language is hard and not everyone learns the same. don't compare people's level of learning either because one persons way of trying hard is different from someone else's. my mom has lived in canada for 10 years now and despite being able to understand very well, there are still situations where its difficult for her to speak the language herself. my dad on the other hand is very fluent. but know something? my mom has actually put more effort in learning the language, it's just harder for her. be reasonable bro. at least she can still speak basic korean and thats more than most people

    ReplyDelete
  64. And I thought she was super advanced in Korean...

    ReplyDelete
  65. like i said in the original comment, i would feel bad if she was studying hard and trying hard to improve but it's clear that she's not. and that's the reason why i don't feel bad for her. she dug her own grave

    ReplyDelete
  66. amber is the cutest, squishiest llama ever. I always watch a song for you because i like her. She is so damn adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ahhhh Amber is finally making it. Hope she becomes popular and stays that way- then pls be Luna's turn too

    ReplyDelete
  68. Where did you get the indication that she is not trying? Where is it clear at. I dont understand where you got her studying schedule from to be able to comment on it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Asian languages in general are very difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  70. For someone who learned a latin based language first, Korean can be extremely difficult. But Amber's Korean still isn't that good even though she's lived in Korea all this time. I think it's because she purposely makes friends with English speakers so she can speak English in her day-to-day life instead of Korean.

    ReplyDelete
  71. how many years is amber living in Korea?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yes they are, especially since there's so many different ways to say one phrase.

    ReplyDelete
  73. if she was studying there would be some kind of improvement, no matter how slow. her level of korean has been the same since 2011. On top of that she doesn't even practice korean, all the people she hangs out with regularly speak english

    ReplyDelete
  74. I really want to watch this. Does anyone know where to watch it? :D

    ReplyDelete
  75. it's not too difficult. you could learn to write it in a day.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thats similar to what my language teacher told the class at the beginning. Everyone picks up language at different speed. Some learn easier and pick it up right away. For others its super hard and difficult. And then you have those normal people who learn at average rate.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Its not that shes not trying its just she probably felt she never needed to learn anything other than basic level...when f(x) debuted amber relied on krystal so much during radio and tv and fans used to joke that she was a translator but victoria couldnt rely on anyone so she just learned her korean by reading children books and improved so much that even SM town seniors are impressed ...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Nope lol they did 3 tests, her scores are high on other two plus the first physical exam is only 10 out of 100. She actually got a 7

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's actually Sulli

    ReplyDelete
  80. Looks like Amber is this edition's "Hyeri" this time around, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I watched the part when Amber cried, it was so funny yet I can't laughing because she was sad. hahahhaa amber is just funny and cute

    ReplyDelete
  82. She's good, but there's still a lot she doesn't know. Foreign idols always have trouble with certain Korean terms & phrases no matter how good their Korean is.

    ReplyDelete
  83. you srsly calling a person who speaks 3 languages lazy and saying she isn't trying bc her froficency isn't up to your standars?
    srsly?

    ReplyDelete
  84. There is more than what you see on social media. Her 24 hrs is not shown on daily on social media. And I seriously doubt that she has not improved at all. Its been awhile since she's struggled with her Korean on national TV. No one is completely perfect at a second language and is bound to struggle now and again.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Lol #7 on the 2nd article. Henry did shoot his cfs with neckslice in them both kfc and sprite :))))

    ReplyDelete
  86. she appears to be a common type of expat by surrounding herself with folks that speak her language and hanging out in english speaking establishments. it's apparent from her speaking that she hasn't immersed herself in the language.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Idk I thought iheartfx would sub it, but they're busy co-subbing Ailee & Amber's One Fine Day along with AngelicAilee.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Its a systematic language not an easy one.

    ReplyDelete
  89. the thing is that it's not her struggling every now and again... it's literally that her level is not fluent

    ReplyDelete
  90. ----> QIANNIE <----January 26, 2015 at 1:43 AM

yeah i remember vic even bought a korean phrase book to learn in WGM. and she has improved so much since then too

    ReplyDelete
  91. I regret choosing Japanese for University TT.TT

    ReplyDelete
  92. but she's barely even trying... like i dont understand why y'all are trying so hard to defend her. Her level of proficiency in Korean is not where it should be and that's a fact. The reason why is because she has not immersed herself in the language. Also an obvious fact which i'm sure she would admit to if she was asked.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Henry didnt win yet lol he did wel with trap but that was before real man

    ReplyDelete
  94. Aw, it'll be alright! You can do it! I'll be cheering on for you, haha, fighting!~~ (it'll all be worth it in the end, remember that ^^)

    ReplyDelete
  95. se's ok in converzational korean i mean she can host a show by herself and all but the army has an specific terminology and concepts you only hear in the army and by soldiers so it's her fisrt time hearing them

    ReplyDelete
  96. Honestly, 8 years is a decent time to learn a new language.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thats common with foreigners to surround themselves are people that share a common language. Amber speaks english, some chinese and korean. Her daily life is not submitted on social media where their things posted with her foreign friends. She hangs with a lot of korean people as well. A reason why her "forget it" was popular is because it was a term that its used in modern korean.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I can feel your pain

Damn. I'm going to be that guy and say that her Korean is very disappointing considering the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  100. from what i read, the trainer uses a different type of korean language, not just the daily one. It's more formal. That"s why she didn't really understand. Amber and vic's korean are around the same level

    ReplyDelete
  101. I mean...I don't know what you're point is and tbh you kind of don't make any sense?

    ReplyDelete
  102. It was more likely the terminology of the context what threw her off. I mean, she's never been in the army before: that context, for her, was new.

    ReplyDelete
  103. IntenseFeelings_UglySobbingJanuary 26, 2015 at 1:48 AM

    Lmao at that girls reaction.

    ReplyDelete
  104. What I saying is that judging her from hanging around people who are not korean, which is viewed from social media. Social media does not show everything.

    ReplyDelete
  105. i think so. i became conversationally fluent in japanese after living there for a year because not that many people spoke english around me.

    ReplyDelete
  106. it's common for people who have moved to another country because they needed to. Amber didn't need to. She moved to Korea because she wanted to, and so she should try harder to speak the language. Also which Korean people who don't speak english does she hang out with often? i can probably count on 1 hand the number of non-english speaking koreans she meets w/ on a regular basis + has in depth convos

    ReplyDelete
  107. Here is ep 1. Ep 2 is not out yet
    http://kshowonline.com/kshow/2956-[engsub]-real-man-ep.89-female-cut

    ReplyDelete
  108. From a Korean friend, I've heard that there is many ways to say one sentence in Korean, hence why it becomes a challenge. Plus the fact that they may have underlying schedules that don't get publicized, therefore not getting enough proper time to sit down and study properly for at least multiple times a week. You gotta commit hard when you're learning a language.

    ReplyDelete
  109. LOL you're talking as if you're with her 24/7 chill

    ReplyDelete
  110. i think even though she lives for a long time in korea, it'll still be hard since there are really terms that are not used in everyday context or in typical conversations. especially now that she's in the "army"

    ReplyDelete
  111. I don't think so I learned korean by watching korean drama and variety shows for the past 6 years. I'm pretty fluent now. I can understand and speak however I can't read or write yet. I should get it soon.

But as with all languages that are not in your native tongue you have to practice and keep up with it on a day to day basis if you don't speak it a couple months you will forget. I used to be fluent in Hindi but I forgot most of it after not keeping up with it for a couple of months. I can still understand but I can't speak it.

"Amber, you're doing nothing wrong so find strength! Just imagine your
fellow members training at a Chinese army and having to speak Chinese."

    Amber's first language is English.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I wonder if she'll actually grow her hair out for their comeback. Victoria said before that's what she wanted to try & do.

    ReplyDelete
  116. especially when you have to learn suffixes to make your sentence more respectful/appropriate. ugh, you get called out for it when you forget the suffixes. #thestruggleisreal

    ReplyDelete
  117. Oh dear lord jesus! Besides her korean idols there are non-celebs that she hangs out with on a constant basis that post pictures on Amber on their own insta. You seem to do alot of judging (HARD) on something you have no exprience own. You did not move to korea to become an idol and decided to take on a third language (even though her chinese is not as fluent). 8yrs might seem like a long time you, because youre looking at it from the outside in. Imagine living it, like I said her Korean has improved maybe not at a speed which you want to acknowledge because its up to par on what you want it to be. But its good thing your not Amber. I hope in a similar situation you would be as hard working.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Look at the amazing upvotes!! I hope amber will succeed too in her upcoming solo debut!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Korean is easier to learn than Chinese (most Americans have a problem memorizing characters) but almost exactly the same as Japanese for most Westerners to learn.

That makes it easier than Spanish or French but not that hard if you're pretty good with languages.

The main issue is that you don't need to learn Korean in Korea, because everyone you care to speak to can understand your English. That's why Eat Your Kimchee has been in Korea for like 6 years and can't speak squat.

Sam Okyere said on Ghanian TV that the first few years in Korea he couldn't speak any Korean and didn't even try. But after the Koreans gave him a career for being African he worked hard to learn the language. Sam is passably good and quite charming on shows with his Korean (his comments are scripted and memorized though) so anyone can learn Korean if they put an effort into it, many foreigners simply don't try. The main thing is, you don't really need to speak Korean to pick up chicks, I mean if you did, the fluency of foreigners would be off the charts 3 months after they arrived in Seoul.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yup, and this is like army speech where she has to understand the orders and the trainers are basically screaming it out so, I understand her having difficulties. I think her daily Korean would be acceptable though.

    ReplyDelete
  121. (bark)(bark) I heard barking sound (dog) by reading this comment...

    ReplyDelete
  122. She already dyed blonde and probably cut it too , i hope not tho

    ReplyDelete
  123. Not mad, just frustrated. This person has comeback for everything. Can win with this one.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Amber is hard working in other things but not in learning languages. All of the languages she's learned she learned from just living. I'm sure she studied up to a basic level of Korean at the beginning but after that i'm pretty sure she didn't study hard. Like i said i literally have no idea why you're being so defensive when i'm literally just stating the obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  125. there's this ^^~ im watching it rn

    http://kshowonline.com/kshow/2956-[engsub]-real-man-ep.89-female-cut

    ReplyDelete
  126. literally all you're doing is making excuses for her. Face the facts. I'm not saying she's lazy or a bad person, but i don't feel bad for her in this case because it's her own fault and her poor korean skills have been a topic of a lot of people, fans and non-fans, since her debut. She should have fixed it or at least shown signs of improvement or effort by now. That's literally all i'm saying.

    ReplyDelete
  127. You say that like you know her day to day life. We don't know how much she studies Korean and I'm sure she speaks it quite a bit since she has to speak it in order to understand what's going on around her. Amber's Korean is good conversationally, but there's a lot of stuff only native Korean speakers would know.

    ReplyDelete
  128. aww i feel bad for her :/ it's nice to see knetz comments sympathizing with her and understanding that it's because of the language barrier & that it's not easy for her.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I dont think I made any excuses for her. Just looking at it from a side that your not. All you seems to say is what she is NOT doing. Making a situation that is black and white, where there is alot of gray area.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Yes, i understand that some things only natives will understand, but the problem is that she has not immersed herself in the language and it's evident in her Korean skills. If you compare her to other foreign idols like Victoria and Fei, you will see that her Korean is lacking and it's something she should work on.

    ReplyDelete
  131. She should hang out less with English speaking friends, & try to speak Korean more often.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Lol, Koreans aren't bothered by it so why are you? I don't get why such a positive article gets comments from people like you. It's like you purposely try to disagree with something even if there's nothing to disagree with just to say something. Now I know why some people say international fans need to get off their high horse.

    ReplyDelete
  133. ... and like i said.... she works hard in other things.... just not in learning korean... why are you so defensive... please calm down.... it's not a huge issue... i'm literally... stating... the obvious... please read this comment 3 times over before replying back because you're clearly not getting it

    ReplyDelete
  134. People are being such hypocrites. Amber obviously learns Korean at a rate much slower than others. So she couldn't understand what he was saying? Does that mean every non korean idol should be bashed for not understanding what someone is saying to them? This reminds me of Tao he didn't know the correct word for shark and he was having a difficult time expressing what he wanted to say. Korean idols debut in Japan all the time but they have a translator with them when they go on variety shows. Y'all need to chill Amber can hang out with who ever she wants too English Speaking or not! If her Korean was really that big of an issue she wouldn't have been a member of f(x).

  137. As a fan i want my fav group to be the best they can be. I'm a critical fan. that's it. and it actually does bother koreans, just because they're not talking about it here doesn't mean it doesn't bother them. Or just because the people in these comments aren't bothered, it doesn't mean that koreans in general aren't bothered by it. She's been criticized a lot for her poor korean.

    ReplyDelete
  138. thank you a lot. Still trying cuz have no other choice after all :(

    ReplyDelete
  139. I get it. I took a huge step on my last comment. I thought is was pretty neutral. Im not trying to continue this argument. (trying to ease myself from this) I was more on less trying to explain myself, since you said I was making excuse for her.
Literally I laughed at your comment~

    ReplyDelete
  140. some foreigners say Bahasa Indonesia is easy, though

    ReplyDelete
  141. You can't compare her with other idols because everyone learns at a different pace. Amber had other English speaking trainees around her, Victoria didn't so of course she had to learn. I'm not saying she's perfect, but you're putting her down as if you know her life in which you don't. We don't know if she really doesn't put in an effort to speak Korean, but she can hold a conversation/read/write it yet you say she's not trying? By your standards, Ailee's Korean must suck even though her parents made her speak it at home, but there's a lot she doesn't know due to her not being a native speaker.

    ReplyDelete
  142. the thing is, i don't go around expecting people to be better at things like languages without knowing how hard they try. i usually see amber in shows understanding well enough but having a hard time pronouncing things, she stumbles on her words a lot and that probably has much to do with not using said words that often. between friends certain words don't come up as they would during broadcast.
almost anyone who wasn't born speaking a language and had to learn it later on would have some troubles. i don't feel right sitting around, judging her abilities, & making assumptions about how hard she may or may not be working as i am a person who can only speak english and has never been into an environment where i would have to learn another one. it really just sounds incredibly.... big headed of y'all to sit around and talk about what you expect of her so simply.

  143. or hanging out in that mexican restaurant, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  144. It's common for foreigners to sorround themselves with people they speak a common language with. It has nothing to do with trying to speak Korean more often. If your not fluent(near native level) then your still going to struggle with certain Korean phrases no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  145. She have been in SK for a for a very long time, why cant see just learn the damn language already?

    ReplyDelete
  146. daily Korean and formal Korean is different. if you aren't used to
language used in the army it will be difficult to understand with along
the pressure of shouted out commands, esp for a foreign girl.
probably there are even Korean guys who having troubles with it and getting punished.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Vic is MUCH better than amber let's be real lol

    ReplyDelete
  148. My cousin is fluent in Japanese, but his best friend is Japanese so it was somewhat easier for him to learn. I needed him to translate something for me lol

    ReplyDelete
  149. That means she'll probably cut it off.

    ReplyDelete
  150. So I guess everyone knows military lingo...Then everyone else should also know medical jargon, etc. as well...

Army terms are different from the normal convo though..

    ReplyDelete
  152. She was always doing these shows and a whole bunch of stuff, so I assumed it was really great.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Conversationally, she's fine, but with traditional and some formal terms, it's a struggle.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I always thought she was quite good at Korean since she's been there for a long while now. Maybe it's just all the different terminology.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Lool because Henry had warned her so much about them

    ReplyDelete
  156. i'm not expecting anything of her nor am i judging her. as i have said, it's pretty common (and understandable) behavior to often speak in a language that you're most comfortable with and surround yourself with people who share a similar culture and language. sometimes that makes you insulated from your surroundings and really inhibits your ability to pick up on language and truly practice your skills. as a former expat, i know. a foreigner could get by in seoul without knowing a lick of english. and based on the information that amber shares about her life, she's relatively insulated. idk why y'all are acting like this is some great insult, because it's not. it's pretty common.

    ReplyDelete
  157. True, but put Vic on this show & she'd have trouble as well.

    ReplyDelete
  158. She has to balance Korean, to speak in Korea, English to speak with friends and family, and finally Chinese because her mom understands mostly Chinese. She has stated before that when she improves in Korean, her English deteriorates. There was a year where she was struggling with her English and she couldn't form sentences. When her Korean and English are stable, her Chinese fails her. Its not that she doesn't try, its just really difficult managing languages being an idol with busy schedules. Its not like she has allocated study time for these languages.

  159. IntenseFeelings_UglySobbingJanuary 26, 2015 at 2:16 AM

I'm speaking generally, though. Amber isn't very fluent in Korean as a whole. I'd understand but her Korean isn't good considering she has been in the country for about 8 years. I can completely understand being like "Wtf" when you go to the Korean army with Korean as a foreign tongue, but otherwise her Korean is lacking considering the circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Even native speakers get mixed up with some stuff, Hyoyeon gets confused sometimes. It's not the fact that she doesn't know Korean, it's the terminology that the army uses that she doesn't get.

    ReplyDelete
  161. amber n henry ftw! show them u two <3

    ReplyDelete
  162. If she immerses herself in the language she will learn it faster.

    ReplyDelete
  163. ya the language always used in the amry is formal and hard

    ReplyDelete
  164. Nowhere in my comment I said she wouldn't, I just replied to that "vic and Amber's korean are around the same level" which is simply not true.

    ReplyDelete
  165. She lost alot of weight recently ,but i prefer her chubby cheeks

    ReplyDelete
  166. In the army you have to change the ending of every sentence basically. If you do it wrong you get punished (standing on your head/pushups/running laps/getting beaten) and so it's really difficult. It's not easy.

    ReplyDelete
  167. is it subbed yet? wher can i watch real man subbed?

    ReplyDelete
  168. The thing about army speech is that it's super formal and there is a LOT of terminology and shortened words/slang they use that most females don't know to be honest (they don't need to serve in the army) and you have to change your suffixes for everything and it takes time getting used to. I think she did very well and she can obviously speak and understand well enough in a normal context.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I agreed with you, Vic's Korean is better than Amber's. It's quite obvious, she was forced to really learn it especially since she's leader. However, I simply added that she'd also have trouble if she were on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Because just like with any language, there's certain lingo different occupations uses. She's a female idol who doesn't even have to think twice about seeing a military base on a normal day. Doctors use lingo, military soldiers use certain lingo, and even cops use certain lingo.

Since you speak english, go ahead and tell those who don't know what a 10-4 is or a code eleven is when the police are talking?

    ReplyDelete
  171. You just have to use the ㅂ니다/습니다 form of the verb which is simply the formal form, it's the first thing you learn when you study korean lol I don't understand all these "army language is different" cause except for some specific terms it's really not

    ReplyDelete
  172. lmao changing the way you speak after learning it all your life isn't easy...and saying there are only a few specific terms isn't true at all. There are so many different words/expressions and slang they use in the army

    ReplyDelete
  173. Huh Krystal and SUZY? Shouldn't it be SULLI?

    ReplyDelete
  174. It's not "changing" lol formal verbs are used in everyday korean too

    ReplyDelete
  175. idk if army speak is just formal korean, but if it is, ia. formal speech in korean ain't like keigo where you're basically speaking a whole 'nother language. it's korean 101 are is already built into some of the introductory phrases that everyone learns.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Pardon me if there are military language she didnt know, i didnt know about that, u dont have to attack me bcos of that u piece of shitty poop

    ReplyDelete
  177. That's not the problem. The problem is, she's not in the military, so she doesn't understand military jargon which is nothing wrong since she's not in the military. Doctors use different lingo with one another that they wouldn't use during their everyday lives as well as soldiers, policemen, firefighters.

Since you speak english, explain what a 'code eleven' is, then. Since you speak english, you should know what a term commonly used by police officers is since it's in english even though you're not a police officer.

See how stupid that looks? That's how you and the rest of you look trying to jump on someone not know all of the intricacies of a language, but try to write the person off as "not fluent" because they don't know occupational jargon.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Yeah i was watching the variety show Amber did with Ailee and was surprised at how she struggled even with conversational Korean. I thought she was more proficient :/

    ReplyDelete
  179. Amber don't cry baby!!! <3

    ReplyDelete
  180. Well that explains it, its weird if she cant understand the daily language although she have been in SK for years

    ReplyDelete
  181. but i'm not acting like it's a big insult?
to say you're not expecting or judging contradicts what was said in your former comment. you clearly said her skill "isn't where you'd expect". it seems that you're comparing her progress to your own and how fast you picked things up due to your environment without knowing hers. (which is where the big headed comment came from.)
and i see your comments are mainly picking at her understanding (seeing as that's where her problem was in the episode) but her understanding of the language doesn't seem that bad most of the time and it isn't being taken into account that shows are carefully and heavily edited to make it seem like she has no clue about what's going on all the time because they think it's funny and endearing.

    ReplyDelete
  182. From what I've seen there are specific army terms but not that many. If the speech form was so highly specific then everyone would have an hard time, not just amber. I'm in no way trying to downplay her efforts or anything like that, I'm a big amber fan and I know she's an extremely hard worker, it's just very frustrating to see as a fan that her korean is just not getting better with time ._. She could have so many more variety shows requests with better korean skills, lately she's been hanging out more with korean speaking idols like girls day Minah so I hope she can help her lol
