Sexy vs Innocent concepts: which attracts more male fans?

Article: 'Sexy vs Innocence'... which girl groups captured the hearts of male fans?

Source: No Cut News via Naver

sexy: AOA, Hello Venus
innocent: A Pink, LOVELYZ, MAMAMOO

1. [+2,235, -122] Hello Venus changed their style with Brave Brothers and totally failed... A Pink and that new LOVELYZ need to stick to innocent concepts. They can always change it up later.

2. [+2,006, -48] Honestly, Hello Venus fit their older concepts better

3. [+1,688, -252] A Pink!!!!!!!!!

4. [+1,235, -81] Most men don't care whether it's a sexy or innocent concept, they like all of it

5. [+1,093, -292] I'm personally looking forward to LOVELYZ and MAMAMOO

6. [+226, -66] Hello Venus already failed. And who in the nugu is LOVELYZ? In the end, it's all about A Pink vs AOA

7. [+184, -46] I hope A Pink never shows skin

8. [+146, -11] Why couldn't Woollim give LOVELYZ a better name, what kind of name is that

9. [+131, -19] I remember downloading Hello Venus songs in the past because they were good but their new song is a disappointment... If they're going to change their concept, at least do it with a good song... Groups that got popular off of sexy concepts didn't get that fame just for showing skin and shaking their butts. They had good songs. Look at Stellar, their song sucked and no amount of skin could make up for it.

10. [+95, -9] Why can't sexy and innocent concepts co-exist...

Best always at the bottom. and why do they have to be for men to enjoy only?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Both are good for different reasons, but APink is probably doing the best overall right now, with Girl's Day and AOA trailing behind.

Lovelyz hasn't even debuted yet, and HELLOVENUS is a sadly sinking ship.

    ReplyDelete
  5. For me, it doesn't matter whether it's sexy or innocent. Just as long as the song is good.

    ReplyDelete
  6. why not we just appreciate girl groups all in all for the love of god

    ReplyDelete
  7. even if it's not meant to be sexy, they will find a way to sexualize it and make the concept gross no matter what. it's a talent.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I prefer Sexy concept.

But if we talking about sales, the concept with less majority 'CUTE/INNOCENT' wins.

  9. "4. [+1,235, -81] Most men don't care whether it's a sexy or innocent concept, they like all of it"

most of them are simply perv old men..... DISGUSTING. this kind of article is disgusting. who the fucking cares abt what perv men like? FUCK THEM ALL.

  10. the member >>>>> the song >>>> the coreography >>>> the concept

well, they show skin too with short skirts lol...sometimes, sexy n innocent concept overlaps...but people just choose to see and claim what they want to,
personally...i prefer to go for the songs, and vocals, without too much damn focus on concepts n image...it's tiring.

You people say things like "Group X should have stuck with their innocent concept smh how dare does Group X do sexy they're not even sexy" but when they do cute concept E.g : Girls Day, AOA, and like TEN THOUSAND MORE GIRL GROUPS you people dont give a shit now that they start stripping and doing sexy you go "THIS IS DOWNGRADING" but then who is the one feeding and helping sexy girl groups chart???????

Btw IM WAITING FOR APINK TO SLAYYYYY. Apink can even sell more then boy groups. They are the bomb! If they keep up this good work they can be the 3rd selling girl group in Kpop, surpassing fx since SM suck balls, lol. (First 2 is SNSD & TTS)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sexy is not about showing skin. i can't say that Mamamoo's concept is innocent or sexy but i find they're sexy but not cheap..

Lovelyz honestly is a not a good group name but, I KNOW THEIR MUSIC WILL BE AMAZEBALLS.

  18. Riyadh Prawiryo AttNovember 8, 2014 at 1:43 AM

Sexy concept for me is the best cuz i don't like cute concept xD but first its all about good music

    ReplyDelete
  19. As long as it a girl wearing outfits that shows their body/cleavage/legs & dancing lalalalala~~~ im sure all man gonna love it..

    ReplyDelete
  20. RandomgirlontheinternetNovember 8, 2014 at 1:44 AM

Honestly, LOVELYZ is not a good group name but, I KNOW THEIR MUSIC WILL BE AMAZEBALLS.

    ReplyDelete
  21. who r any of dem in general

    ReplyDelete
  22. MAMAMOO

srsly thought a milk brand at first

    ReplyDelete
  23. Who cares, the music is the most important thing not the concept.

    ReplyDelete
  24. sexy vs innocent? he's two in one.

  25. 2. [+2,006, -48] Honestly, Hello Venus fit their older concepts better

i use to love hellovenus becoz of their bubbly and cute image . this comeback song really trash song. fail. very fail .

i waited for so long and they comeback with this sexy concept. really disappointed.

    APink says "NoNoNo!"

    ....

While butt dancing in short skirts in pastel colors.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's better than Lovelyz

    ReplyDelete
  32. weird name.
but the talent level in that group is just absolutely amazing, i must say. 👌

    ReplyDelete
  33. +131, -19] I remember downloading Hello Venus songs in the past because they were good but their new song is a disappointment... i understand what hello venus hope by change their concept( like aoa, gsd) but one important thing they lack is good song..everybody have their own preference but for me..their song is just typical BB sound...just bland...i hope they can do well for next cb..fighting!

  37. 7. [+184, -46] I hope A Pink never shows skin https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/B1ygdOfIcAA-MaY.mp4

    ReplyDelete
  38. I will debut a girlgroup without any clothes, and said their innocent are like newborn babies, newborn babies don't need to wear any clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. same, i thought they were more of a mature concept..

    ReplyDelete
  40. Honestly, all that matters is what works for the group. Apink got popular with the cute concept so they are sticking to it for right now. Girls day really tried for the cute route but that only got them so far. Nobody was checking for them so they switched it up and now look at them. The same thing goes for AoA. They tried to bring something fresh and bright to the table but they weren't doing well so they changed it up. One concept isn't better than the other, it's just the luck of the draw.

    ReplyDelete
  41. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 1:51 AM

Uhhhh. The KPop companies? Considering they bring the money to the yard?

    ReplyDelete
  42. as long as the song and the performance are good and reasonable, it's ok to me :)) cute, innocent, sexy, erotic, badass, funky, alien, whatever, I don't care :))

    ReplyDelete
  43. Who ever said they have to be for men to enjoy only?

    ReplyDelete
  44. THE thing is pastel color put black silver and leather in place of pastel with same dance and same girls you'll see the light

    ReplyDelete
  45. people are already comparing Lovelyz to a lot of older groups and put them in categories when they haven't even debuted.........I don't know if that's a good thing or not, someone needs to make a pro-con for me =)) I am glad that people are checking out them and curious about them ;; Lovelyz is a weird name, I hate it at first but after a while I became comfortable with it...

I like both concepts, I like any concepts as long as the group has the kind of music that I can enjoy and that the girls are enjoying doing the concept. I don't really like it when I see performance and there are members who looks too uncomfortable. But overall, concepts are not that important for me.

...also, 'And who in the nugu'...is that the new version of 'who the fck'.

    ReplyDelete
  46. yeah it's basically like saying "what turns on men more? being sexy or acting innocent?"
    both are for sex fantasies..

    ReplyDelete
  47. 10. [+95, -9] Why can't sexy and innocent concepts co-exist...

    I know right?

    ReplyDelete
  48. "And who in the nugu is LOVELYZ?"

    WHO IN THE NUGU LMAO

    ReplyDelete
  49. seriously you dont need sexy concept.. what you need is innocent but look sexy at the same time.. lol and also you also need good song! thats very important.. overall what i saw, not so many girl group have very good songs.. kinda disappointed of it coz they prefer concept more than looking for VERY GOOD song that suit with them..

    ReplyDelete
  50. Does Sticky Sticky sound as weird in Korean as English?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't know you notice this or not but after switching to sexy concept, AOA and Girls day's songs got so much better and catchier. GD's songs used to annoy the hell out of me but they're fine now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. well, it's doesn't give sensual feeling.it's give out innocent aura...

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm getting sick of Brave Brother's songs lately...the girl groups doing the sexy concept with his songs end up being too similar. I likes Hello Venus' old lively image better

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sexy or a blend of the two work best tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well considering it's hard for girl groups to gain female fans companies will just market them towards male fans because it's easier

    ReplyDelete
  56. Please. They are all sexualised concepts. I would even argue that the innocent concept is a virgin fetish.

    ReplyDelete
  57. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 1:58 AM

    :p Oh I totally agree.

I'm just laughing because it's so true, A Pink uses this formula time and time again.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Mamamo, Lovelyz. Weird names. Kpop group names getting more and more weird.
And i think mamamoo concept is not innocent.
Brave Brother needs a long hiatus. So tired of him

    ReplyDelete
  59. When I first got into this group before they officially debuted, I was really hoping they'd change it by the time of debut.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Innocent concepts are just sexy concepts in disguise #truth

    ReplyDelete
  61. they're not that different when you think about it. both fetish-y and problematic concepts that were conceptualized by men in suits.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hellovenus' now completely under Fantagio and they're probably chasing after insta-famous with sexy concept & brave brothers' combo. Honestly speaking, even though Pledis is suck with promoting & managing their artists, Hellovenus' way better when they were still managed by Pledis. Their concept wasn't totally innocent and far from sexy, their cover arts & typographies were perfectly suitable for their concepts & songs and those were one of the reasons I liked them. But right now, I didn't know what to say but wish them all the best since they're totally after my opposite taste of music & style.

And for AOA & APINK, they're probably going to stick onto their best concept (sexy and innocent) for quite times since the're clearly getting famous because of their concept. Maybe they'll stick onto their safe concept until fans/netizens started to complain the way they were complaing about SECRET's concept.

As for LOVELYZ, I didn't know what's gotten into Woollim to choose lovelyz as their group name since INFINITE is a perfect name for a group just like BIG BANG. Maybe they didn't have good inputs they used to once they were debuting infinite four years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Whoever says Hello Venus comeback failed, you are totally wrong man. They rank no. 1 on 3 korean famous search engine on their 1st comeback stage.
    P.s: ignore my grammar

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes just think it like; one is a sexy-vixen-dominatrix and another one is a innocent-yet-sexy-schoolgirl. Both concepts are often found in porns tho.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The best of both worlds lol XD I only get into a group by listening to them first, and then I discover the members, their personalities, and their concepts. I honestly don't care about how the girls dress, just sing well (and of course, act nicely!), and I'll route for you ^-^

    ReplyDelete
  66. while copying SES songs, hahahahha

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't care, honestly. It's not like the members don't look gorgeous as hell in sexy or cute costumes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. In related news Lovelyz drop their pre-release on the 10th! :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. And the NUGU award goes to....... this is a category i would vote for.

    ReplyDelete
  70. And here we can see the real face of feminist..

    ReplyDelete
  71. first song called "birthday suit"

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think SNSD is a group that's succeeded with blending sexy and cute. They've always had "sexy" concepts, but they've never been the type that aim to twerk at the audience. I've found that their sexy concepts were always tasteful (although I will admit that the upskirt kick in ITNW was always strange). Plus, their sexy were always mixed with some sort of aegyo. I think that's how they've retained fangirls, too.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I feel bad for A Pink. The day they go sexy will be the day uncle fans explode.

    ReplyDelete
  74. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:09 AM

    ACube: "It's an homage, damnit"

    ReplyDelete
  75. it seems that in s.korea showing skin only counts if its above the waist for girls, as long as your butt is mostly covered it counts as decent

    ReplyDelete
  76. Best always got low upvotes even If it's not at the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am not a fan of girl group but I am so looking forward to Mamamoo's comeback. These girls are amazing. Honestly their concept is not innocent at all. Theirs is more a mature and elegant concept and it honestly fits well with their songs. The way they sing and perform just....woah....I need more groups like them.

    ReplyDelete
  78. why didnt ACube just change Apinks name to HOMAGE, cuz they qualify on every level.

    ReplyDelete
  79. HV failed? they were the number 1 search term on Daum, Naver, and Nate after their first comeback stage and last time I checked they were charting ok. Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  80. they've only released one song.. do they even have a concept..

    ReplyDelete
  81. 8. [+146, -11] Why couldn't Woollim give LOVELYZ a better name, what kind of name is that

    my feels exactly

    ReplyDelete
  82. i have been calling them mamaoo all this time

    ReplyDelete
  83. "HELLOVENUS is a sadly sinking ship."

Not really...if they had stayed the same and pretended nothing was different nobody would have looked at them again so I think what they did was for the best.

They made a shocking transformation and are getting hate from it but it is also attention they never got before even while they were a cute concept group.

    ReplyDelete
  84. people say this but have you seen snsd's earlier stuff. they were straight up performing with lollipops. infantilized af.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sexy concepts attract general attention, innocent concepts attract more potential fans.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Apink n Lovelyz for me.......
i'm a Panda for 3 years n Apink need to stick with that concept because Hayoung still a student, even Hayoung tried sexy dance before but thanks God i think they'll waiting for Hayoung being adult n change the concept ^^
also Lovelyz, finally after 123456782787827 years Woollim give them debut!!!! yaaay!!! looking forward for them, Baby Soul, Yoo Jiae n Jin already have pre-debut MV so we already know their quality...
    both Apink n Lovelyz fighting!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Most men don't care whether it's a sexy or innocent concept, they like all of it

it's true, my boss is korean, he likes all girl groups lol

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well newborns wear diaper.... So the girl group should wear it ryt?

    ReplyDelete
  89. A Pink wears school uniforms half the time for their stage costumes, and their outfits aren't sexualized. They can show all the legs they want but it's not as a big of a deal as showing off your chest/cleavage. (I'm not defending them, but this is what I heard.)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Stellar's Marionette is so good tho

    ReplyDelete
  91. Cute concepts fulfill a lot of kinks so. I personally dont care about the concept as long as the song is good

    ReplyDelete
  92. Shaking my head. Swaying your hips is one thimg but purposely twerking your ass to be desireable is different. Learn the differences.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Everything is nice to look at tbh. In the end, if they have catchy songs, I'll pay attention to them even if I'm not fond of their concepts or images. As a guy, I can't lie and say I don't appreciate every girl group lol

    ReplyDelete
  94. Eh. SNSD tried to be Rania's Dr Feel Good with The Boys but they can't pull it off. Noone in SNSD has sex appeal imo

    ReplyDelete
  95. fanboys don't care much; they could like both... innocent for days & sexy for nights

    ReplyDelete
  96. 7. [+184, -46] I hope A Pink never shows skin
So are we all agreeing their short-shorts and mini skirts with the upskirt shot wasn't showing skin?
OK deluded fan, whatever floats your boat

    ReplyDelete
  97. Copying SES songs? You mean the one part in NoNoNo that only has a similar melody to one SES song that international fans continue to bring up time after time?

    ReplyDelete
  98. i like AOA's new concept. excited for the MV

    ReplyDelete
  99. Is Sweetune going to be their producer?? Cuz if so I'll lap that shit up. I'm such a Sweetune fangirl

    ReplyDelete
  100. Those "pervy old men" are the people that are even keeping most of these girl groups alive.

    ReplyDelete
  101. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:31 AM

APink would never ever do anything suggestive:

  102. Not for their debut album. But the girls have worked with Sweetune in their solo singles so maybe they will work with them somewhere in the future. Woollim and Sweetune are in a very good relationship anyway, they're almost depending on each other lol.

    ReplyDelete

  105. This is so fucking disgusting that you're even sexualizing the girls like this. What makes you think this is even okay?

    ReplyDelete
  106. reminds me of this

    ReplyDelete
  107. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:35 AM

xD And... delusional fangirl goes to?

    ReplyDelete
  108. lol have u read fanfics? this is nothing compared to that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. They turned off some fans, though... and Brave Brothers gave them the weakest track they had.

They had something special when they debuted, and they actually managed to have a solo concert very early. I don't really see that happening for them anytime soon, if they're not going to do something to retain a fanbase.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Um??? Just because fanfics exist it suddenly makes it okay to turn innocent actions into sexual ones? Mind you Eunji was underage in a few of these gifs.

    ReplyDelete
  111. are you seriously comparing apinks nonono butt dance to other sexy group dances.
how is swaying your butt a little the same thing as, let's say, AOA's miniskirt dance. I love them both but oh my god some of you people are ridiculous. not everything that has to do with shaking butts fall into a sexy concept ok.

    ReplyDelete
  112. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:39 AM

Gee, it's not like KPop CEOs live off of exploiting virginal fetishes of Korean men...

    ReplyDelete
  113. what the actual fuck is this supposed to prove? that the people who make these gifs are completely taking the girls actions out of contet and sexualizing them?

    ReplyDelete
  114. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:40 AM

Ah yes, the low camera angle was purely meant to highlight the exquisite lining of their inner dress.

    I also attach exhibit A:
    http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2014/11/sexy-vs-innocent-concepts-which.html#comment-1682561462

    ReplyDelete
  115. I understand they are underage but Eunji put the fcken award in her mouth. If I wanted to be innocent I wouldn't be doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  116. "Look at Stellar, their song sucked and no amount of skin could make up for it."
Uhhh I dunno, I thought Marionette was a good song O_O

    ReplyDelete
  117. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:41 AM

Or that KPop CEOs intentionally market a sexualized virginal portrayal of women that is fucked up.

    ReplyDelete
  118. A Pink have already stated before that they genuinely enjoy their concept. It's disappointing that so many of you are out to prove that A Pink subtly seduce everyone with their innocent concepts, as if the girls can't think for themselves.

It's like you all don't pay attention to their music, and fans have already said that their music is healing to them. Even the lyrics encourage happiness, like NoNoNo, if you bothered to even take a look at the translations.

    ReplyDelete
  119. A lot of these new "sexy" groups won't last. Fanboys are very fickle, they change groups like every week. Right now AOA is the trend because Seolhyun. The moment her visuals drop the slightest, they will move on to the next group with a cute member. That's why groups with loyal fangirls (SNSD, 2ne1) are always on top. I think Apink will be the only group that will last a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Newsflash, not everything you pretend to put in your mouth is related to a dick.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Tho I remember The Boys being one of those era that fangirls came rushing in

    ReplyDelete
  122. thanks for your info, but I figured that out myself when I began to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Sexy should be classy sexy not sexually suggestive. I didn't know Mamamoo is cute, I thought they're more like retro sexy?

    ReplyDelete
  124. they are actually told what to do by their company so even if they wanted sexy they are not gonna get it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  125. You have a point. There are many loyal male fans, but fangirls in general have the most loyalty to their idols.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I actually enjoy A Pink's music.

I've personally noticed that people who flip shit about their concepts are a majority of the people on NB. Y'all chant about A Pink's concept like a prayer more than their own fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Lol Mamamoo isn't cute/innocent, the article is wrong about that one.

    ReplyDelete
  128. mygrandmashitsonyourbiasNovember 8, 2014 at 2:45 AM

I mean, playing into the fetishes of men wanting innocent virgins who passively do sexual actions without having the agency to find a man on their own (Mr. Chu) is a sexy concept...

Fucked up, but a sexy concept nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Stellar had plenty of good songs you dumbo

    ReplyDelete
  130. and I suppose apink directed that camera angle?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Lol you don't even watch their shows, do you? They cringe when people ask them to do aegyo on variety shows, but they're not comfortable enough to perform sexy concepts either as proven by their Weekly Idol segment when the MCs asked them all to show a sexy dance. I don't think they're purposefully portraying apink as some kind of sexual fantasy. they're just marketing the kind of cutesy, innocent girl that some Korean men like. and that's just in their songs. apinks charm is that they're super cutesy on stage but are really boyish offstage and that's what brings in fans. but also apinks fanbase has a large number of female fans as well.

Now HV are picking up the pieces and are going on a new path that seems like it could lead somewhere. They're not eating a banana in public though. It's not "sexualizing something that doesn't need to be sexualized", these are clear actions meant to appeal to the male gaze (or anyone interested in females).

Seriously. If you doubt me, show these GIFs to any friends who have no interest in A Pink and are older than like 15. It's a very intentional marketing strategy.

You don't accidentally pretend to have never been kissed, have MV after MV showing you in a school girl fantasy, have you stimulating oral sex on stuff you normally would never eat that way (sorry, how many people try to eat trophies?).

You can accept it's a marketing strategy, or you can deny it. It doesn't mean the subtext isn't there. Dressing 20 year old women as school girls and claiming they've never been kissed isn't "innocent": it uses innocence to sell a virginal fantasy.

You say every other concept by theirs is also copied, yet no one has been making a big deal about their outfits until they hit it big with NoNoNo. Ok. Tons of ideas get recycled, and A Pink aren't the first or the last.

the problem with the gifs that you keep bringing in is that they're out of context. I can easily take a random ugly screenshot of a handsome idol and show it to someone who doesnt know who it is and ask if they're handsome or not. its basically the same thing.
just like other idols say they've never dated before and they hide their relationships. yes its a marketing strategy to say that they haven't dated/are not dating because when things like that come out the fanbase decreases bc people for some reason can't handle that their idols can date.
