Article claims Avril Lavigne's 'Hello Kitty' is K-Pop influenced

Article: Even Avril Lavigne is copying... what is in store for K-Pop's future?

Source: Korea Ilbo via Naver

Excerpt: "A few weeks ago, Avril Lavigne released her new track 'Hello Kitty' with a music video shot in the streets of Tokyo, Japan and the repetitive lyrics of 'Ka-ka-ka-ka-kawaii!' The song and music video, however, did not give the impression of J-Pop but rather K-Pop with its similarities to Psy's 'Gangnam Style'. Chad Future, an American solo artist, is also famous for his various Korean idol covers. He recently released 'Lonely at the Top', a song different in style from what we know as K-Pop, but with full use of music video cliches often seen in K-Pop idol groups.

This flow is nothing visual but K-Pop's influence is definitely growing. If K-Pop is viewed as 'Asian' in the west, K-Pop also represents 'futuristic and modern' elements in Asia. K-Pop will continually be reproduced and consumerized outside of Korea. K-Pop, in the future, might just become something we're the most familiar with but now longer completely ours. Where does K-Pop's future lie?"

1. [+3,241, -38] Thinking that Avril Lavigne copied K-Pop is delusional.

2. [+2,855, -34] She did not copy K-Pop, she obviously copied Japan.

3. [+1,924, -45] I don't see K-Pop growing that far. There are tons and tons of singers who sing well in America alone, why would they bother with singers from another country? K-Pop is purely for the visual aspect with fashion styles, dances, etc.

4. [+1,600, -57] I watch reaction videos of foreign YouTubers and they think of K-Pop as bizarre ㅡㅡ K-Pop is still something new to foreigners. A bit more brainwashing and maybe they'll get it.

5. [+1,139, -24] K-Pop is all about what you can visually show

6. [+195, -1] Lavigne loves Japan ㅋㅋㅋ (She really loves Hello Kitty), her music video has nothing to do with K-Pop

7. [+191, -3] ㅋㅋㅋㅋ As if Avril Lavigne would copy K-Pop ㅋㅋㅋ

8. [+114, -1] Avril Lavigne is going around shouting 'kawaii', how is that connected to K-Pop at all?? Would foreigners really think that??

9. [+94, -1] I don't know what this journalist is thinking. That music video has so many dislikes and the most voted comment on it is calling it 'retarded'... how did the journalist come to the conclusion that the music video represents K-Pop's future;;

10. [+77, -0] I doubt Avril Lavigne even cares about K-Pop ㅋ

11. [+74, -0] Journalists who don't know anything keep writing half assed articles about K-Pop becoming globalized so anyone who doesn't know any better just goes on believing that K-Pop's the best and it's actually trending in America;;
