KBS deems a part of Crayon Pop's new song unfit for broadcast

Article: [Exclusive] Crayon Pop reps, "We have edited 'pika bbunjjuk -> bbunjjuk bbunjjuk' for reevaluation by KBS"

Source: Star News via Naver

KBS deemed a part of the lyrics in 'Uh-ee' unfit for broadcast for using the Japanese expression 'pika bunjjuk'.. bbunjjuk just means sparkly.

1. [+932, -42] So I guess if Pokemon was broadcast on KBS, Pikachu's name would have to be changed to Bbunjjukchu

2. [+630, -52] Why is English okay but not Japanese?

3. [+490, -52] Departing from the fact that it's Crayon Pop, this just seems wrong...

4. [+447, -53] This is why KBS is stupid...

5. [+77, -8] Pika bbunjjuk? How's that any different from us using words like bling bling

6. [+72, -7] I don't get why bling bling's allowed but not pika bbunjjuk

7. [+58, -6] Might as well ban English at this rate

8. [+49, -2] Chu Sarang shouldn't be on TV according to KBS's logic since half of her speech is Japanese

  6. Everything is unfit for broadcast on KBS. Even crying babies that have their toys taken away because that's child abuse. *rolls eyes*

    ReplyDelete
  7. As stupid as this sounds, because they used the Korean form of it. The Japanese word and the Korean word sound really similar to each other, if I’m remembering correctly.

    That being said, ugh.

  8. These bans don't surprise me any more ever since they banned lee hyori's chitty chitty bang bang MV for not wearing seatbelts.

  11. I need whoever is running things over at KBS to find a corner, have a seat, listen to the soothing tones of Drake and ponder the direction their lives are going in because if this isn’t a cry for help and a bitch sob of jealousy, I really don’t know what is anymore.

  14. Didn't they do the same to Lee Hyori's for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang mv because of "traffic violations" lol.

I like the fact that they actively upload their sites on YouTube with full English subs but this is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's not even like they said some inappropriate word in a foreign language, OR ANY LANGUAGE FOR THAT MATTER. This is ridiculous. The people at KBS must be bored out of their minds and are just finding random reasons to ban performances/music videos for shits and giggles, honestly.

    Korean
    Banning
    (because we) Suck

    ReplyDelete
  73. lmao ikr.... its filmed in japan, the wife can't speak in korean and always speaks in japanese in her interviews and at home. Chu Sunghoon also speaks in Japanese sometimes and even invited the other family to go to Japan. And a phrase in their lyrics makes the whole song banned ?

SEEMS LIKE CRAYON POP FORGOT TO PAY THE MONTHLY KBS BULLSHIT TAX TOO

    ReplyDelete
  74. That's creepy

    ReplyDelete
  75. Why would 4minute be banned?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  77. 2. [+630, -52] Why is English okay but not Japanese?

err KBS seems to hate japan :/

    ReplyDelete
  78. Why not banning songs with English or Engrish terms? Jeez I lost count of how many times I facepalmed at Korea and their ridiculous reasons to ban songs and MVs. Ranging from gratuitous violence (INFINITE's BTD), promoting suicide (SPICA's Russian Roulette), encouraging crime (Song Ji Eun's Going Crazy), traffic violation (Hyori's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Psy's Gentlemen), looking too sexy while driving (Narsha's Mamma Mia), drug usage (BEAST's Rainy Day), belittling man (Baby Soul's No Better Than Strangers), etc.. I'm sure I've missed a lot..

    ReplyDelete
  79. 'pika' if u change the intonation a bit sounds like korean for lets smoke or wanna smoke

  82. This just seems so unnecessary from my perspective. I mean really, KBS? Then did they ban GP Basic's song since that was the song title?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Aah, so something that sounds like "bitchy" is ok then because NO JAPANESE hahaha

    Censorship in Korea is weirdoland...

    ReplyDelete
  91. They had to change the lyrics when they performed on broadcasts....

    ReplyDelete
  92. By them speaking Korean in Japan it's throwing a big middle finger up at the Japanese because it says "we can't be fucked learning konnichiwa and shit but we'll take your money".

.....or something......that's knetz reactions play out in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  93. As expected....KBullShit excuses...seems like they don't have anything to do but to ban things for ridiculous reason . u.u
Those elders at KBS seriously need to see the outside world and how it's different from 100 years ago...

    ReplyDelete
  94. That was like, one whole second of the MV. Why should that make the entire MV banned?

    ReplyDelete
  95. The cases are different, because that's an actual Japanese speaking Japanese. Whereas Pikabunjuk is neither Japanese nor proper Korean word. That's why it's banned.

    ReplyDelete
  96. It's not really about speaking Japanese part that's the problem (SNSD and Kara demonstrated their Japanese many times in Korean shows) But the word itself is neither Japanese nor Korean. It's not grammatically correct to say I don't know... "chef cook" in English right? It's like that.

    ReplyDelete
  97. then why have chu sunghoon and chu sarang on their channel. tsk kbs.

    ReplyDelete
  98. which is funny because plenty of foreign artists went to Japan to make money but never bothered to learn their language properly.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Wow kbs. If it wasnt for your kbs world youtube which subs all the cool shows..

    ReplyDelete
  100. [+932, -42] So I guess if Pokemon was broadcast on KBS, Pikachu's name would have to be changed to Bbunjjukchu

You can't ban it because it's the only thing I-fans understand. oh wait, even that we don't understand.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It's not only sm. They don't ban JYP's songs too.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ride Ride Pony Tonight~April 3, 2014 at 12:25 AM

    LOL! true

    ReplyDelete
  104. seems like KBS always banned some group for 'easy' reason..

    ReplyDelete
  105. That's not true anymore. Yen's worth dropped significantly. Kpop stars were always underpaid than actual Japanese stars in Japan. Also, Japanese major broadcast stations practically banned all K dramas and Kpop now so...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Wait...it's grammatically incorrect or correct? LOL if grammar is the issue, 75% of Kpop songs should be banned ><

    ReplyDelete
  107. I believe there's a hidden reason behind KBS banning videos. Seriously, they ban a lots of MVs for the lamest excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Everyday I shock is the best example for this.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hahahaha I know right!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Idiots in KBS don't know English. So they aren't bothered by it. But Pikabbunjuk is a Japanese and Korean combined word, so they know it's wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  111. TBh for a monet I thought they were talking about After School, I was like o.O? XD

    ReplyDelete
  112. LOL I think there are too many to count. Terrible grammar is one of the reasons why I'm embarrassed to let my friends know I like KPop. Like I love Big Bang, but I cringe every time GD says, "more louder!" in one of their songs

    ReplyDelete
  113. Actually something happened. Koreans aren't that welcome in Japan as compared to before. They're not allowed on Kohaku anymore I think and TV appearances became a bit limited too.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Ahh thanks! I realized that got the reason wrong so I fixed my comment ;)

    ReplyDelete
  115. But you know those foreign artists makes a good hundred million dollars out of Japan unlike Kpop artists

    ReplyDelete
  116. i glanced at the title and thought it said "KBS deemed outfit unfit for broadcast" and got a shock because Crayon Pop is so covered up.
lol, its still too early for me to be out of my bed

    ReplyDelete
  117. its ridiculous how they can have the television channel KBS Japan broadcasting in Korean with Jap subs but complain if theres a japanese word used in a song... hypocrites!

    ReplyDelete
  118. ....and not some groups even if there are plenty of reasons (squint and try to sound critical)

    ReplyDelete
  119. There's restrictions. I know foreigners in Korea can only promote in 2 stations and basically there's huge restrictions. Hangeng's case is a good example

    ReplyDelete
  120. Narsha was feeling up the gears haha

    ReplyDelete
  121. well, this scene caught a lot of attention. i think 'attention' and the message of the scene matters a lot more than the duration of the scene. people can make it into gif, can replay it on youtube--> it have influences!
    negative ones, i feel.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hahaha Sarang is not happy!

    ReplyDelete
  123. nothing. just stupid people being stupid

    ReplyDelete
  124. Korean technically don't freely promote in Japan. They aren't allowed on some of the bigger music shows.

    ReplyDelete
  125. aw, KBS you little attention seeker doing all these unnecessary and stupid things just to show your authority and relevance~~

    ReplyDelete
  126. Why is it negative though, is my point. Why should it be banned? What's so bad about it? She isn't naked or anything and if you watch the MV, it looks way less suggestive than that silly small gif.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I had to read the headline twice!! I was looking for the word sexy concept to pop up.

  132. yep. one of his nicknames is 김다정 which means 'warm-hearted kim'

    ReplyDelete
  133. Fei is as gorgeous as ever

    ReplyDelete
  134. But even so, that's still different. Encouraging youngsters to drink is not the same as using a (non profane) word someone at the station didn't like.

That would be like American radio stations banning pitbull because he keeps saying "Dale", or Drake because he said YOLO.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I didnt pay attention and was shocked hearing "b*tchy b*tchy" then it turned out to be "bichi bichi" and they translated it to "shiny shiny"

    ReplyDelete
  136. Are you high ? 70% of KPOP income is from Japan.
BB, Kara, etc... are pretty much Japanese artists when it comes to income, sell 10x more concerts tickets there than in Korea, are in variety, ads, etc...

What are you comparing ? Avril Lavigne vs some nugus kpop group that is irrelevant in Japan

    ReplyDelete

  139. You're right. It's not about Japanese. It's about using correct expressions. My english is bad so I'll write in Korean

  151. This made me laugh not even going to lie

    ReplyDelete
  152. huum... Jia and Fei were attending lots of fashion shows last week, they have their own radio show now, Fei went into variety and appeared a lot more than Jia on tv and etc, you don't really follow Miss a, do you? because JYP is trying, but if people don't want Fei, it is hard.

    ReplyDelete
  153. ::sigh:: now other stars are just super cautious about receiving gifts from fans...at the airport...but if I remember correctly, not every idol members can receive all gifts from fans...most of the time they just walk on by

    ReplyDelete
  154. just a correction. I don't think they're banning the whole song, they're just editing the part :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. No, her mom is Japanese!

    ReplyDelete
  156. there is no picture that he went back, or video? why it isn't posted yet? I'm sure if he did went back, his company would media play about it, because they said he was too busy to see the fan, the fan also never posted anything talking about this. So from where you took this info he went back? I only heard he took other fans' gift in another airport day.

    ReplyDelete
  157. her mother is Japanese

    ReplyDelete
  158. Wow so contradicting. Actually before the famous drama you come from star .....? Kim Soo Hyun was infamous for being rude and bad attitude to the producer and staff. Now after the drama get famous, everyone are praising him.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Shiho is Japanese Chu sunghoon is Korean in superman returns he talks a lot about Sarang learning Korean through songs and reading I think

    ReplyDelete
  160. 70% of KPOP income comes from Japan alone.

There are not many western artists that can claim to be bigger than Kara or BB in Japan.

Also KPOP idols are from the 2nd most anti-Japanese country (after China) where Japanese artists are not welcome.

  161. everyone will be more careful after this..but i think idols like exo might not able take gifts n fanletters coz their fans are like..army fans+fansite masters with big dslr..huhu

  162. Why KBS dont ban Mr Mr for promoting bondage theme? Nurse and patient role play is very famous in Porn

  163. The one high is you. Except for Boa, TVXQ, Kara no Korean idols made more in Japan than what they made in Korea. When it comes to income whether it's CDs or concert tickets cooperating Japanese companies took most of the profits (That's why Japan promoted Kpop in the first place) So it didn't matter they sold 10 times more or whatever. In the end, they didn't bring as much. (and since 2013, Japan isn't interested in Kpop anymore, so...) Idols make most money by filming commercials. Since average Kpop groups filmed at least 5 times more commercials in Korea than in Japan, their Japanese income never exceeded Korean income.

  164. TVXQ appeared in Kouhaku 2013. TVXQ and Big Bang have decent TV appearances (Seungri has his own TV show) but the other groups.. they seldom on TV. I think it's because the incidents in Music Station Super Live 2011? cmiiw

they are not saying SM is doing wrong, they are pointing out how KBS is always biased toward SM.

  167. It's obvious you don't know much about miss A. At first Suzy was the least popular and promoted member but after dream high everything changed. Thye tried to promote all of them. Min was in a movie and on variety shows but the public didn't like her that much. U can't do anything about the fact that Korean public prefers Suzy. Jia was on Master Chef and DWTS and she got a lot more popular but public still prefers Suzy. Jia is in a drama with Nichkhun and both of them (Jia and Fei) have a lot of activities in China. They have their radio, they often appear on dancing show and Fei is judge in dancing show and host in cooking show. So don't say that JYP doesn't care. They do what they can but you can't do anything if she's not as wanted. If that will make U happy Suzy is also losing a lot of popularity after her scandal with speech but people still don't really seem to want Fei that much. So please, stop making Suzy guilty of everything and do your research first. Oh and there is NO leader in miss A.

  168. "8. [+49, -2] Chu Sarang shouldn't be on TV according to KBS's logic since half of her speech is Japanese"

    lmao exactly

  169. Ohhhhhh that's why. Then it is understandable. Even tho it's a very minor thing, I think only the correct ones should be used on national TVs so people will know.

  170. Oh, about that... i think when it is about ilbe most of knet will give bad comments about it. It is like they hate ilbe to the death.

  171. 2PM? Their latest CD/DVDs peaked at #1 in Oricon charts. Maybe Japan is still interested in kpop

  172. So, Music Bank changing the scoring system 3 times because of SNSD means nothing? They once did it DURING SNSD's comeback (The Boys I think?) and they still kept winning.
    KBS hates EVERYONE.

This is a graph I got from a Korean article.
It seems YG doesn't make more in Japan than what they make in Korea.

  176. Sorry for my bad english.
Infamous? lol. Who said he is rude? That was just rumour that about young good actor has bad attitude. There is many good young actors there too. How do you know he is?. As for his co-star in Secretly Greatly that was mistranslate. His co-stars, staffs, producers always like to work with him and praise him. He is really well respected all his surrouded people.. Go read thier interviews and watch videos. For example: Tell me if he was that rude and that bad attiude. Do you think his past co-stars, producers would like to work with him??? Jun Ji Hyun who worked with him twice. do you think JJH will work with him again and will give him her first drama, movie on screen kiss if he was rude?, Suzy- She's been always working with him ever since Dream High. Jun Eun Pyo aka Hyung sun- eunuch in TMETS. During YCFTS Soohyun invite him to cameo. If you watch thier interview. You will know how much he adore soohyun.Did you ever follow his article, news, videos? Just dont say bad thing about a people who you dont know them well. I didnt mean i know him very well. But i think i know him better than you. He is not perfect and he has flaws too. What i want to say is he's not rude person. Definitelly NOT. That rumour is definitelly not him.

  183. Its what korean person said:
"""Frankly I was very very surprised that there are some people here who believe him to be arrogant because he is generally known to be shy and bashful. I'm a Korean netizen too and I frequent some of the largest Korean online communities pretty often and he is very well regarded in all of them, even in the male-dominant community. I can guarantee that there has been no such criticism. And be careful with the netizen comments in portal sites because they are full of trolls and overzealous fangirls who take it upon themselves to spread bad rumours about their idols' rivals.

As a fan, we cannot know real personality of celebrities but if you follow them long enough and speak the same language, you get a glimpse of what they are like in reality. What I've found over the years is a shy, dorky and sometimes quirky boy who are extremely serious about acting. Well...I don't even need to defend him. He can defend himself good enough I think"""""""""""

  184. Tbh me (and I bet a lot of other ppl) would be less annoyed if they didn't push everything into the very last episode. Like please don't make a season long couple break up in 2 minutes. Please don't kill off a titular character with one vague, half-second, scene. The creators were jus asking for hate.
