Article: miss A Min's photoshopped pic upload under racism controversy... why?

Source: News 1 via Nate

1. [+1,214, -19] What's wrong with her...?

2. [+1,018, -18] So thoughtless...

3. [971, -24] Should just stay quiet

4. [+119, -1] Why would she do that...? She's from America, shouldn't she know better?

5. [+115, -0] What is that;;; If Sunmi and Rick Ross saw this, they'd be pissedㅡㅡ

6. [+110, -3] Isn't she in that group that gets Suzy's hard earned money distributed to them

7. [+107, -0] She grew up in America, she should know what that picture means... which means she put it up fully knowing the implications??

8. [+83, -1] What a way to prove yourself to be an idiot ㅋㅋㅋ Anyone can see that the picture's racist, and more than anything, it's also hating on Sunmi ㅋㅋㅋ Foreigners will have a negative image of Sunmi now... Min should stay quiet and know her place. She's the ugliest in miss A, short, not that great of a dancer... why would she do this to her group's image?

9. [+76, -3] Following Danny Ahn, so many more people are ruining their images today. Why would she upload this?

10. [+64, -4] She should be grateful she even has food on the table thanks to Suzy

11. [+60, -6] Our poor Suzy ㅜㅜ

  2. Makes me curious why she actually uploaded that in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don't think Min is a full out racists, everyone knows stereotypes these days and people laugh and have fun with them. Biggest example Vine being very stereotypical and people never complain....but its was very wrong of her to upload that she is a public figure and she should laugh at that and keep that with herself and her friends. Stupid mistake made.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I doubt Min was being racist. It's just an ignorant and stupid move. Celebs should be careful with SNS

    ReplyDelete
  5. or maybe she just found the picture funny? is not racist just dumb to upload that knowing well what could happen

    ReplyDelete
  6. she probably thought it was funny and wanted to seem "in" with the current popular memes so she uploaded it not remember her status.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Racism or not, by the way which i doubt she uploaded that picture with racist intentions but she intended to point out that Rick Ross is a fat ass.

    ReplyDelete
  8. i don't understand this picture, why would you find it funny? please someone explain to me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. she shouldn't had uploaded that photo. She wanted to show her fans something funny but that didn't go so well. i don't think she was being racist cause Rick Ross really likes chicken. not cause he's black. Min should be careful.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Rick Ross is the U.S version of Onew when it comes to chicken but have no idea why Sunmi is even used for that picture.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "not that great of a dancer"
    whaaaaat ??

    ReplyDelete
  12. "She's the ugliest in miss A, short, not that great of a dancer." Wait what?!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ugly short ? Now whoz going racist here .? U knet

    ReplyDelete
  14. "Rick Ross is the U.S version of Onew " laughed more than I should oops

    ReplyDelete
  15. lots of people make fun of rick ross for craving chicken its just min is getting in trouble because she's a celeb.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i know she was just trying to seem in and funny (and i think this shows the complete opposite) if this is just one of those everyone knows about rick ross and loving chicken things (i didn't know this but reading comments now i know) i'm still surprised she posted this because as a celebrity isn't she aware how much flack they get for being themselves? i mean ya'll are hanging with biebs why diss others in the industry (similar) to your own

    ReplyDelete
  17. i didn't see the chicken until someone pointed it out. Thank you though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Are Korean doesn't like Nigga?
My Korean friend in Ausie hate Nigga wth passion

    ReplyDelete
  19. If that's the case, seems like she had a dumb moment at the time :/

    ReplyDelete
  20. Glad the netizens are a little bit more understanding than all the international fans who are just all like "It's a MEME that doesn't make it racist!!!!1"

    ReplyDelete
  21. bitch must be jealous of sunmi

    ReplyDelete
  22. "She's the ugliest in miss A, short, not that great of a dancer... "

  23. She should have gone for something more...impacting, then. Like this >:D

    ReplyDelete
  24. She's not "bad" but she's not very good either

    ReplyDelete
  25. sunmi was used because the "joke" she made was a play on words with her song - something along the lines of 'Rick Ross - Lacking 24 servings'

    ReplyDelete
  26. ...I don't get it

is she suppose to imitate a monkey crawling on all fours or something?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Can't it be both dumb AND racist?

    ReplyDelete
  28. no she is very good actually

    ReplyDelete
  29. MEME'S aren't ment to be taken seriously -_- ......

    ReplyDelete
  30. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hipster_racism

Trying to make fun of "stereotypes" by having fun with them is just thinly-veiled racism.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kpop "controversies" get funnier by the minute LOL

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wanna guess how much she drank then?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Calling someone ugly or short doesn't make you a racist lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you for the constant updates NB! <3

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't think you understand what a meme actually is. It's not just a picture with words...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maybe for idol standarts lol

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is stereotypical not racist their is a difference

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm happy so many k-netizens (look at those upvotes on the top comment!) basically agree with i-netizens here. It's nice when we all agree like this, kinda makes me feel warm inside. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. she's done racist stuff before so unless she's constantly drunk on instagram then..

    ReplyDelete
  40. Offensive things are offensive no matter if they're meant to be taken seriously or not

    ReplyDelete
  41. I find its not funny at all

    ReplyDelete
  42. Society today has sadly made stereotypes fine. I didn't say she is right, I just said I don't think she is a racist. WE all as human beings stereotype at one point or another, I'm not gonna sit here and ridicule her for something I've probably done myself.

    ReplyDelete
  43. poor Suzy??... I get it she made a mistake but.... poor Suzy?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Because who knows her motivations? Is she trying to be racist or funny? If it is ambiguous, it is better to just not say anything.

    ReplyDelete
  45. you don't need to be racist "on purpose" to still be racist.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh god why did i scrolled down

    ReplyDelete
  47. rick ross & chicken...i don't get your point racist bitch

    ReplyDelete
  48. that's exactly what I think

    ReplyDelete
  49. Now if only netizens repriminded GD like they did with min lol

    ReplyDelete
  50. Looks likes knetz understand the implications of racism more than NB users stop trying to make excuses for her

    ReplyDelete
  51. Now you got me curious. Mind filling me in?

    ReplyDelete
  52. if society "today" made stereotypes fine then she wouldn't have gotten reprimanded and lost fans over this.

    ReplyDelete
  53. lol i have no idea why you are getting downvotes. Min is a great dancer

    ReplyDelete
  54. Making fun of stereotypes hurts people and not all people find them funny.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 7. [+107, -0] She grew up in America, she should know what that picture
means... which means she put it up fully knowing the implications??

    That's what I've said too

    ReplyDelete
  56. Honestly I'm really tired of her fans making excuses for her. Wrong is wrong you shielding her only gets her more hate, what she should've done was formally apologize for what she's done instead of letting her company give a 3 sentence load of crap on her behalf.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I mean he/she did the same thing min did . She poked fun at the black dude due to ofc his complxtion and knet poked fun at her apperance

    ReplyDelete
  58. Celebrity with their SNS is scary these day, every bad move they have will ruins their image

    ReplyDelete
  59. Your missing my whole point. HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT that I think what she did was wrong...all I'm saying is everyone is calling her a racist and I don't think she is. She's just dumb for uploading something like that. She should keep that to herself.

    ReplyDelete
  60. They did, trust me he got called out for it to the point that YG had to make a statement (Something they don't usually do).

    ReplyDelete
  61. are you comparing her to professional dancers? she is better than all of snsd members thats for sure. snsd can't dance without choreos, cept hyo.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I don't think she meant to be racist. She's just very stupid. Why would she even upload something like this? Idols really need to be more careful on SNS.

    ReplyDelete
  63. People on allkpop were defending her like mad and its sad as hell because even knetz know better

    ReplyDelete
  64. This is a racist stereotype >.>

    ReplyDelete
  65. did not i say she was wrong? Do you have selective reading. My whole point was that I don't think shes a racists, just ignorant and insensitive.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Maybe she honestly was just making a joke about Rick Ross in particular liking chicken a lot, I don't know. The implications are very obvious though and seeing as Min has lived in America and uses her Twitter as a public figure, I think she should have thought more carefully before uploading the pic. Even thirty seconds of thought would have been enough to conclude it's safer just to not make the joke.

    ReplyDelete
  67. she's most likely not going to apologize, just not use SNS for a week or two. that's the cowards way out, when you have tons of black fans who are hurt by this, at least give us the respect to say that you're sorry for being gross and that you'll do better, not deleting instagram and twitter off your phone for a week and letting it cool down.

    ReplyDelete
  68. please americans pull shit like this all the time. so many people think they have some black friends and they suddenly have street cred, exempt from being offensive because they're "in"

    ReplyDelete
  69. ok lets min's enjoys..i barely see any article abt her..lol...

    ReplyDelete
  70. i am more curious as to how is this racist or how is it funny? :/

    ReplyDelete
  71. But it's ok to make blackface joke on tvshow? Hmmmm.......

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ok let's just pretend that this isn't racist. It would still be incredibly offensive because she's making fun of someones weight and on top of that she used sunmi's body to deliver the joke. Not cool either way

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think it is obvious that she mainly wanted to call Rick Ross a fat fuck which is another minus.

    ReplyDelete
  74. That applies also to the vast majority of idols out there. SNSD isn't really any special exception in that regard.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes, she was dumb and that was racist. However, the body shaming is unwarranted.

    ReplyDelete
  76. i've seen pictures like this (rick ross & chicken or some other food) so seeing her upload this i assumed it was a jab at his weight...which isn't exactly 'right' either

    ReplyDelete
  77. it might have been funnier if she put Onew's head instead. people wouldn't mind this much, because it seems to many that she's either being racist or making fun of Ricky's weight.

    ReplyDelete
  78. you can just check her instagram, there's a video of her rapping along with a song w/ the n word in it instead of just rapping the other parts. she wants ppl to see how cool and "down" she is because "n/gga". and she imitated "black american english" on some variety show nobody watches and her apology was something like "sometimes you do things you don't want to do" and then that was the end of it. I don't think she'll ever actually apologize for doing racist / insensitive things because she thinks she has a black card for dating a black dude and knowing some black people. It's upsetting.

    ReplyDelete
  79. One million applause for you! This is the BEST comment. She should stick to taking caption less selfies.

    ReplyDelete
  80. even if she meant it as a joke, i think its really rude and not funny at all. she shouldnt have posted this pic.
I'm really disappointed in her rn.

    ReplyDelete
  81. No one sane wants to be racist on purpose. It's horrible because it's not on purpose . It's not meant to hurt feelings, but it's what they truly believe and that's what's disgusting about it. People who are unconsciously racist are just as bad as those who do it consciously because they refuse to believe that they have a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think if the chicken was replaced with a cake people would of got a different message.

    ReplyDelete
  83. http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/kc9W2LrFPZM/hqdefault.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  84. She did something racist, how does that not make her racist? She's also dated a black dude, does that keep her from being racist? Does that balance it out? Those are rhetorical questions, because no, it doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  85. it only means you are stereotyping.

    ReplyDelete
  86. i know its hard for people to understand but this pic isnt racist and min isnt either. international fans arent really defending min but more like the internet culture. offensive memes vines jokes are a norm and its the unwritten rule to not take it too seriously and get offended. its hard to explain but that just the way it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  87. You also said she should laugh at it and keep it between her and her friends which makes no sense at all. Im just commenting on how stereotypes arent supposed to be funny.

    ReplyDelete
  88. it's hard for people to understand you don't have to be intentionally racist to perpetuate a racist agenda and the "joke" card doesn't excuse anything, just a lazy way of sweeping things under the rug.

    ReplyDelete
  89. IDK what part of 4chan you crawled out of but most people take jokes that insult their humanity pretty seriously. Because it's not funny and it's cheap. "Haha black people eat chicken" is a weak-ass joke.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Shitty people in general. There's shitty people and stupid ppeple everywhere. It is a taboo in America socially to pull that shit off.

    ReplyDelete
  91. of course, i'm just saying it's not as far fetched as people think. i actually like min a lot but she's a classic example of "doesn't apply to me".

    ReplyDelete
  92. this whole comment section is a mess. I don't anything funny about this photo. But i don't think she was trying to be racist. And i'm not trying to help her. Cause i'm also disappointed in her. The photo is offensive in many ways. She did a stupid move and she'll learn from it. She needs to understand that she's a public figure.

    ReplyDelete
  93. doubt it. they'd then accuse her of making fun of fat people which i'm pretty sure is what she was doing in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  94. i agree. it was a really dumb move

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm pretty sure ANYONE who enjoys those stereotypes and laughs at them is racist. Those stereotypes are racist, she's partcipating in them and therefore that is racist.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ugly and short aren't stereotypes though. They're physical characteristic. It's subjective and potentially rude but it isn't stereotyping.

    ReplyDelete
  97. 4. [+119, -1] Why would she do that...? She's from America, shouldn't she know better?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ignorance doesn't excuses racism or culturally insensitive behaviour such as this!
And she can't even play the ignorance card since she apparently spent enough years in a racially diverse country such as the U.S to know this kind of things is not considered appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Exactly and sadly fat shaming is so normal that its not really offensive.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Thats not racism, that's stereotyping.

    ReplyDelete
  101. What if Rick Ross loved pizza instead of fried chicken so in the pic there would have been pizza slice and not fried chicken. I wonder how different reaction this pic would have gotten.

    ReplyDelete
  102. She's from America, and even natives Koreans know that the image is racist, so she doesn't really have a vaild excuse lol.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Holy cow :/ Those are some serious issues she's got >__>

Cheers for the info mate :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. what???? Stereotypes help fuel all types of oppressive shit, why do you want to redefine racism just because it has to do with this girl? It's racist. It's a racist stereotype.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Regardless of whether you believe Min is actually racist or just dumb, the upload IS racist. And tacky on top of it for using Sunmi's body. Glad people called her out on it and she got a wake up call.

Just out of curiosity though, was there ever a knet reaction to racist stuff Suju's pulled?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Knetz love this kind of stuff against idols.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yeah, I understand. She used to be one of my favorites but I am not going to just support her when she thinks thats okay. And I think that she know better to actually believe that she's "allowed" to make fun out of some pretty shitty beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Doesn't like what she has to say, but they go and bash her appearance anyways... Ok because that makes sense.

I don't hate Min and in no way am I defending her, but that's just some hypocritical shit. I hate it whenever people have to bash another person or other people just to prove a point.

    ReplyDelete
  109. You see, I don't believe this is racism. Racism is hatred towards a race. And clearly Min was just making fun of a man who is KNOWN to love chicken. End of story. People are looking too much into it with the history and stuff. Even the title says "Rick Ross" and not some other name like idk "all black men like chicken" or "look @ this n****, he luuurrrvve chicken"; that I can definitely understand as racism.

In no way was Min aiming hatred towards a black man who happened to love chicken. If anything it's more of a stereotype. It's not even anything negative either, the man LOVES fried chicken! Who doesn't?!

Here is the oxford dictionary's definition of racism:

    **noun[mass noun]

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races:theories of racism

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior:a programme to combat racism**

Now correct me if I'm wrong but in no way did Min say anywhere at all on that photo that all black people like fried chicken, that they're all the same. That's racism. And in no way did Min say that her being Korean was superior to Rick Ross being black.

It's a meme. Whether Rick Ross be black, white, orange, yellow, green; the man will probably still love chicken no matter what. Y'all jumping to conclusions that it's racist when there is no evidence in that photo that it is racist. Just a man who loves chicken and that 24 hours isn't enough for him to eat and gather all the chicken he can get.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Wow it took me a long time to see that fried chicken down there. I was connecting Rick Ross to zebras... I was so confused.

BUT ANYWAY...wow I'm so disappointed in Min...she was one of my faves. She definitely should know better. No one can give her any excuse. The "but in korea they don't know blah blah" is old and not true (well except for the really elderly maybe) and ever since the hallyu wave or w/e idols especially have been exposed to other countries. Same with people who listen to music that isn't Korean. Besides, didn't Min live abroad or something at one point?

    ReplyDelete
  111. As a black Kpop fan this kind of behaviour reminds me that the same idols I like, respect and look up to might very well be racists, xenophobes and/or culturally insensitive people. And might not even appreciate the fact that I am their fan because of my race.

    Not a pleasant feeling...(︶︹︺)

    ReplyDelete
  112. I'm actually not even defending her. I just personally in my own opinion as a black female think its just a stereotype and that she was not being racist. But think what you want. I have lost respect for her for being a complete fool. I don't think anyone really gets what I'm trying to say...its like you all think I'm defending her blindly, when in fact I'm not. I just don't think shes a racist. That was my original point and I'll leave it as that.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I can't speak about what she meant by this, but at least I can say for sure that she was very foolish.

    ReplyDelete
  114. There are a ton of memes and jokes on the internet that aren't suppose to be taken "seriously" but are still offensive. In this case, we are dealing with stereotypes. Does it make Min a horrible person? No, and it doesn't necessarily mean she's racist (since I don't know her personally, I can't tell if she is or isn't). But, It was a dumb move on her part.

    ReplyDelete
  115. to me this is just stupid and ignorant from min, she did something really stupid and may offend many, but i dont think its totally racist

    ReplyDelete
  116. i guess everyone who watches Vine videos and laughs at them are racist now too? Stereotypes are wrong, and I don't think they're right...but its everywhere sadly. Vine makes millions out of people stereotyping right left and center.

    ReplyDelete
  117. If you think someone doing something racist isn't racist then I'd like to hear what you think "real" racism is.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'll agree that she shouldn't laugh at them and she should learn to better herself, I just meant it was something she should have kept between herself. She clearly found it funny...its a meme.

    ReplyDelete
  119. vine isn't 100% racist videos, though. almost none of the ones I've ever watched were based in racism. who are you following on vine that that's all you see?

    ReplyDelete
  120. These Knetz know where its at, instead of some people constantly trying to defend with lame excuses, what she did was/is wrong, and I hope she learns from it

    P.S. Thank you Knetz

    http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/standing-ovation.gif

    ReplyDelete
  121. I feel like you don't read what I write. Anyways I'm done. Agree to disagree?

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hell yeah they called yesung out so quick >.< the same with GD so far all the ones who did racist things got called out for it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I feel like she is trying to hard, its embarrassing

    ReplyDelete
  124. What are you talking about? OMG. Do you not watch vines that have "WHEN WHITE PEOPLE DO THIS" "WHEN BLACK PEOPLE DO THIS" ---those are stereotypes, its the exact same thing Min did. She stereotypes that Black people like fried chicken...

    ReplyDelete
  125. I know right, NB is on a roll~

    ReplyDelete
  126. she grew up in the US so being ignorant is out of the question

    ReplyDelete
  127. is that....a dick???

    ReplyDelete
  128. Social Media...... the career killer

    ReplyDelete
  129. don't think she meant to be racist. but she was.
and even if she truly didn't mean to be, you really have to be careful about what you share as a celebrity. no matter what you do, people will be offended - so when you actually do offending shit; there will be an uproar.
and people keep saying "because she grew up w/ black people/ in the usa she should know better" but the problem is the blurred lines that come with that. people start to think it's ok because they have so many friends of that race, and if their friends find it funny when they make those jokes, it's okay for them to continue to make them. growing up in a completely multicultural place i've noticed that a lot of racist comments get pushed under the rug because we're all so used to making cracks at each other to the point where it's offending but we know the other person means no harm.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Can someone translate what the korean article says? I am curious to see how they explained the controversy in a way that the citizens understood our side

    ReplyDelete
  131. Well I defend her a little bit because now some people really seem to think Min is racist who hate black people. I mean no matter how I look at this it was just meant to be a joke a fairly popular Rick Ross meme + kpop fusion picture. So I would call her stupid not knowing what the consequences might be and her responsibilities as a public figure but not a racist.

    ReplyDelete
  132. "even by idol standards she is better than all of snsd" I never said that snsd are better than her so what's your point?

    ReplyDelete
  133. GD didn't do blackface though, its was for his Coup De'tat photoshoot and MV. It was dumb of him to upload it though, people would get the wrong idea, and they did.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Some people seriously need to educate themselves more, learn more about a topic before you talk please, this is just....smh

    ReplyDelete
  135. I don't think she got a wakeup call. she just got a bunch of angry tweets and IG comments and will probably never mention it again in a week when she's back to tweeting ASAP Rocky lyrics and IG'ing her dog. Until she actually apologises herself I don't think she really cares outside of getting "bashed" on SNS for good reason.

    ReplyDelete
  136. [+76, -3] Following Danny Ahn, so many more people are ruining their images today. Why would she upload this?

    becearful with your SNS.

    ReplyDelete
  137. yes, same with Taeyeon and Yuri !

    ReplyDelete
  138. Yes, you are right. Perpetuating a stupid joke that has historically been used to demoralize black people is in no way racist. It just randomly exists on a bubble of the author's creation.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Whether you want to believe it or not your shielding her

    ReplyDelete
  140. Amazing. Korean netizens are seeing the racial implications whilst most international comments have been in defense of Min...WOW

    ReplyDelete
  141. <<<-----------pls rate this brain
did you really have to use the word 'monkey'????
you get a 0/100000000 from me for that stupid statement.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I think it would help a lot of you out to learn what microaggressions are and how they work to realize that "intent" means squat when it's taken as something hurtful. Your intent doesn't have to be "I hate black people" when you say I'm "pretty for a black woman" but that's still racist.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Unlike most blacks, I'm not offended but I don't support this either. Whether she intended to make fun of Ricky being black or being fat, she's dumb either way.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I think a lot of what SJ did was more ignorant than racist. Besides the stuff they see on American TV, they don't know any better of being racially sensitive. I don't remember all of them, but the most recent thing with Yesung. I think that he was more doing cosplay than blackface. He was just trying to portray Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury(since the comic Nick Fury is white). They all learn from it though and usually don't do it again.

Min should know better though, since he did live in the US and especially since she was in NY which is incredibly diverse.

  145. lol thats what i mean by diff communities cause kpop fans believe everything is 4chan(never been on it). this stuff is on common sites like fb and twitter with thousands of shares and retweets(by people of all races too). alot of people find it offensive and just as many are unaffected by it too. thats just the way it is. either u like it or you dont.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I read it and you can't give me an example of real racism? Because if you can perpetuate racist stereotypes without being racist then what's real racism then?

  148. Stereotypical racial humor is the lowest common denominator. It takes little thought. Mostly appeals to immature people. Vine's main demographic is like, 14-17? Not saying all teens are stupid but... that would explain why cheap racial jokes are so popular there.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Fans are using the excuse on how this meme is popular. But just because jumping off bridges becomes popular, it doesn't mean you have to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  150. honestly idc if i get downvoted and i'm not even min's fan so no i'm not "shielding" her for this but......idk man i've seen rick ross x chicken memes on facebook before. posted by black people. i always thought it glaringly obvious the point was to make fun of his weight, not the outdated "lolz black ppl n chicken" joke. the man constantly raps about chicken and even owns a chicken restaurant. i thought the controversy would be about her being a public figure and fatshaming him which is pretty rude in and of itself, but i think it's reaching a bit to think this was done with racist intentions. i DO think min probably has some ignorant ideas about black people, though. her "black american imitation" on that show w brian joo was side-eye worthy for sure and i definitely think that merited some calling out.

  151. she gets a free pass because she dated a black guy, she's not racist!!!1

rme I don't understand all these unnie/oppa apologists here

    ReplyDelete
  152. I've only seen black people make those vines and the other ones get passed around until the white person deletes it because ~they didn't know they were racist~

    ReplyDelete
  153. It's actually interesting because half the netizens that see the "racial implications" are most likely the same people who are actually racist in every day society. You don't know the nasty ignorant racist and stereotypical things I've heard Koreans say about blacks. Even the sweetest person has a thing or two to say about black people and it's nothing nice. That's the sad reality.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Rick Ross happens to be black which makes things look worse than it is. The man honestly loves chicken to death and everyone knows this. She's poking fun at Rick Ross as a person for loving chicken not because of the colour of his skin.

People who find this racist, obviously still see people through their skin colour rather than a person with likes, dislikes and love for things or food. That is the problem with people. They're so wound up in trying to find every little thing wrong and try to make it out to seem racist when it could just be a person who fucking loves chicken regardless of their skin colour.

    ReplyDelete
  155. someone care to explain this to me? i don't get anything

    ReplyDelete
  156. Example:

    Racism:
I won't live next door to lady, cause she is black.

    Stereotyping:
Have you heard black people like watermelon and fried chicken?

Like I don't understand what you don't get.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Back in the states, wasn't Min really cool, actually, wasn't she good friends with a few black people? I could have sworn I saw a shit load of pd pictures of her and all the people were black or something.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I wonder if she did this with that guy from shinee that loves chicken would she still be called racist? lol

    ReplyDelete
  159. This picture is both racist & disrespectful. Even if the picture wasn't racist, she still would've been criticized for disrespecting Sunmi like that. I mean Sunmi is her sunbae.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Min has no business posting a meme that can easily be racially insensitive if posted by her, rather than, IDK a Beyonce or Rihanna. That's how context works. And tbh I've never heard of this meme before today.

    ReplyDelete
  161. people in the comment section here should check out wshh comments

  162. /hugs/ I know how you feel bb ):

    ReplyDelete
  163. I don't get all the drama

Rick Ross and his obsession with chicken are well documented. What is racist about this? Except for the fact that the person who uploaded the picture happens to be a non-black celebrity?

    ReplyDelete
  164. QUE TIENEN LOS IDOLS (ALGUNOS) EN LA CABEZA? ¿QUE?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Wait... did she say the lyrics of a song out loud? I want to know exactly what you are saying before I mock you

    ReplyDelete
  166. Now that i-fans can't find a way to defend Min, you guys are just telling Knetz to "stfu" lol

    ReplyDelete
  167. I don't get the problem with saying an idol did something wrong, it doesn't mean you hate them or they're a bad person. She fucked up and she got dragged for it. All the excuses in the world isn't going to change a thing. Hopefully she learns from it.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Didn't Taeyeon say that Alicia Keys was pretty for a black woman?

    ReplyDelete
  169. Nope knetizen's Gumbo is the African food blacks(and many other races in america) eats. Min trying to make a joke, but that's abit careless.

    ReplyDelete
  170. but aren't these kind of racial stereotypes jokes or this level jokes quite common thing in US entertainment business like on tv series, movies and especially stand up comedy. So for me it is quite surprise how big this thing got and how many people are really offended by this.

    ReplyDelete
  171. umm, get over yourself. Stereotyping and racism are two different things. Not saying stereotyping is right but racism is a whole other thing so please calm down. Also are stereotypes not based on truth? Does Rick Ross not love him some fried chicken? Umm yes. Do I as a black female like fried chicken? Yes. Was I offended? No. Get.over.it. BYE

    ReplyDelete
  172. A lot of things are racist, this is not one of them. It's more of a fat joke than is a race joke.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I know, however fried chicken is actually a misconception of african american's favorite food since it wasn't made by us originally.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I wasn't excusing her tho. I was saying she's dumb for saying doing this when the picture can clearly be seen as negative even tho her intent wasn't negative.

And please....I'm from US..people do shit like this all the time here so I don't see why being from US make it more inappropriate. It all come down to people doing dumb things.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Umm what? "Until the white person deletes it" I am dying. You guys take everything so serious its sad. It doesnt even make sense LMAO

    ReplyDelete
  176. I no longer eat Gumbo a long time ago. My favorite is more towards fried rice mein.

    ReplyDelete
  177. wtf. You clearly don't watch Vines.

    ReplyDelete
  178. you need to get laid because it is not that serious boo boo

    ReplyDelete
  179. Only thing I find racist is this manipulated society system putting a social food chain and my race is a the bottom of that food chain. *rolleyes*

    ReplyDelete
  180. Most probably not because he's known to love chicken which I don't get because Rick Ross is ALSO known for that. The difference is that people ultimately jump to conclusion it's racist because he's black (regarding history and stuff) but they fail to see it as two men who just love chicken.

People want to get rid of all this racism but it won't go away if people still keep that same frame of mind and just see people for who they are which is people and not constricted by skin colour and bring up history. Yes it's an absolute disgusting and terrible thing that it happened to those ancestors but how the hell are we suppose to move forward and try to reduce racism or ultimately eliminate it, if people still have that same frame of mind? You have to let go of something to move forward otherwise it's just holding you back. It would be completely different if she went "Oh look it's black man, they all love chicken! Let's all laugh! hahaha!" That's racist which perpetuates hatred towards that race group. Omg sorry for ranting to you in reply, all this stuff just get me riled up.

    ReplyDelete
  181. (thanks for not responding rudely!) i agree, it would be pretty easy to take this the wrong way without any context. i guess i just never thought of it in a racist way since i haven't heard people make a "black ppl luv chikin" joke in years and as an avid hip hop fan i hear people clowning ross for his weight all the time. even the DJ's here in miami (RR's hometown) stay cracking jokes about his size on the radio. whether she meant it in a racist way or not, it's foolish of her to not think before she shares such things on social networking.

    ReplyDelete
  182. It's about Miss A. Min gets the racist tag, this issue will get associated with Miss A.. and then Suzy gets pulled in. That's why they feel bad for her lol

    ReplyDelete
  183. I stared at the picture for 5 minutes trying to figure out what everyone was talking about and then I finally noticed the fried chicken on the bottom right lmao. W O W.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Yep because racial stereotypes are always funny. (sarcasm)

    ReplyDelete
  185. uh, no. it was an honest question.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Lol...I find it funny tbh but I have to admit it is indeed racist..

    ReplyDelete
  187. I actually agree with you, she was stupid for laughing at his weight, but i really doubt she is racist lol

    ReplyDelete
  188. .....yeah I'm pretty sure the KKK and Nazis are racist on purpose. I don't understand why you would think racism isn't on purpose and there's no solid conclusion that showed racism is a mental illness.
Whether Min is racist or not is another issue because no one know who she is for real. The only thing we can decide is that she was ignorant to post a meme joking on Rick Ross and Sunmi's 24 hrs song.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Woah, that's Sunmi's body? o.O

    ReplyDelete
  190. im cryin

i love me some fried chicken tho

    ReplyDelete
  191. How is this not a "race joke"? Black people have always been stereotyped that they all LOVE fried chicken yet this isn't true. Stereotyping is a form of racism.

    ReplyDelete
  192. Have no idea why you got downvoted for this

    ReplyDelete
  193. I hope people realize that it is so much easier to admit something is racist and make a change for the better from that day forth instead of denying anything just short of KKK membership can be considered racist and hurtful. Racial issues would be solved a lot quicker and we might actually achieve that "post-racial" society we're so desperate for without putting in any work. But nope! As long as being accused of a racist act is considered more hurtful and dehumanizing than the actual racist act, we'll be stuck in this vicious cycle of deny, deny, deny, with a healthy dose of sticking our heads in the sand.
