Girl's Day, SISTAR, & Dal Shabet graded on their sexy profit

Article: "They've stripped as much as they can?"... Girl groups graded on their sexy marketing

Source: Dispatch via Nate

The chart compares 'before and after sexy concepts' income of girl groups (Girl's Day, SISTAR, Dal Shabet) based on digital, physical, event, and CF income combined.

=Girl's Day=
Female President (6/2013) Almost 8,000
Expectation (3/2013) Around 5,000

=SISTAR=
Give it to Me (6/2013) Almost 10,000
Loving U (7/2012) Almost 6,000

=Dal Shabet=
Be Ambitious (6/2013) Almost 640
Hate, Don't Hate

The number of events they're being invited to perform at has also risen. SISTAR receives 10+ calls a day. Girl's Day, after their first sexy concept last year, had 40 events scheduled. Love calls are increasing since 'Female President'. Dal Shabet is also seeing a double increase in love calls.

Article's conclusion: sexy concepts = $$

-

1. [+358, -15] We're going to have to mosaic music programs in 2015 at this rate

2. [+297, -36] I think later, they're going to look back and wonder to themselves, "What did I do as a singer.....?"

3. [+244, -32] Can we just slap on a 19+ rating on these broadcast shows and make them Las Vegas style with the stripping ㅡㅡ;; Why bother wearing spankies? Just wear your panties~ Or are you not confident in your sagging butt?

4. [+20, -3] ㅋㅋㅋ Since wearing bikinis is okay now... I guess we'll be seeing topless idols soon. It's all just a matter of who does it first.

5. [+16, -2] I'm only in my early 30s and it's been a while since I cut myself off from pop music because it all just sounds like noise to me. I tend to stick to music from the 90s and early 00s. Even though they're old, they still sound trendy.

6. [+16, -0] Talk about turning your sex into a product

7. [+14, -3] Well, what can we say when they're making as much money as they're taking off

8. [+9, -1] They're not singers ㅋㅋ Just about as on level with the cheerleaders at baseball games and racing girls at motor shows ㅋ

  1. wow...so the trend goes like that, no wonder their outfit become more and more panties like :O

  2. All I see is complaints on these articles, but obviously the profit has to come from SOMEWHERE. So if sexy is so bad, why are they getting more successful?

    ReplyDelete
  3. THANK GOD my girls dont do it . f(x) have class.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Well, most of these groups are considered as 'performance groups'. Visuals are a big part of that. They've never really been just about singing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. "[+16, -2] I'm only in my early 30s and it's been a while since I cut myself off from pop music because it all just sounds like noise to me. I tend to stick to music from the 90s and early 00s. Even though they're old, they still sound trendy. "

agree. Looking at S.E.S and Fin.KL who gain much popularity with their baggy outfit and plain make up. Well, world has changed.

  6. Man who ever said
"Sex(iness) sells" was so right it's not even funny, lol

I don't blame them though, you have to do what you have to do in this business, it's sad

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well with those numbers you can see why companies are resorting to the sexy concept, that money is doing some good to these smaller companies.

    ReplyDelete
  8. well apink dont do this . thats why i love apink .

    ReplyDelete
  9. Girl Groups who sell their bodies to win the marketing

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think it's sad that these girls had to resort to sexy to being relevant. Beauty wasn't enough. I mean, think about it, with the boy groups, all they have to do is look good, they do go shirtless, but they don't need to in order to become relevant. It's what sells. Like it or not, only once in a blue moon will a female in any industry become popular JUST because they are talented.

    ReplyDelete
  11. but loving u is also...sexy..it's not all fancy but they freaking dance in tanktops and hot pants...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why the hell are we only talking about girl groups?? If sexy for women is bad, then it should be for guys as well. My fellow men are stripping to pay their rents. OR we just accept sexy is sexy regardless of gender and agree that sex sells. After all, the internet wouldnt be where it is without porn.

    ReplyDelete
  13. People have to realize that technically these groups are from moderate companies who basically live off the living of their artist. Their profit is a huge benefit to the company and if the companies want to grow in a rapidly developing industry, then be it no matter how morally constraining it is.
I just want to know from the girls part, how they feel doing these concepts on a genuine level?

    ReplyDelete
  14. reminds me of the wise words of lee chang sun

    ReplyDelete
  15. K-pop has singers dressing sluttier and showing more skin a decade ago than the "OMG GIRL GROUPS ARE GOING TOO SEXY" phase right now.

    because netizens don't really matter

    ReplyDelete
  17. I know maybe many people would not agree with me, but I do love Girl's day. I love Minah voice...they are getting better on vocal, and their latest, female president, i really like it. For SISTAR, I'm never their fans, but loving you is my favorite...I don't really like give it to me.

this. early 00s and below were all the great songs that you can really feel EARGASM.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I personally find sexy concepts boring, but they are obviously the most profitable.

no one should be blaming the girls or their companies, the general public are the ones who prefer sexy concepts and there is nothing wrong with that, but they are getting more and more repetitive and a lot less creative, every group that has done a sexy concept recently just do skin exposure and it ends up looking really awkward on stage and there is no sexiness at all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The phrase: "Sex sells" exists for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What ever happened to the law that banned shorts?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Money talks, and it louder then the netizens.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Dal Shabet is the only "too" sexy act for me but SISTAR and Girl's day? not really... it's sexy but not over the top! Especially SISTAR are keeping it classy <3

    ReplyDelete
  24. How are shorts and tank tops sexy?... The outfits weren't but sistar is sexy naturally

    ReplyDelete
  25. They should have just compared Dal Shabet & Girl's Day because SISTAR's concepts have always been sexy.

I've noticed this year that girl groups that have gone sexy after having cutesy concepts are mostly alike. Dal Shabet, GIrl's Day, even TAHITI(who's dance looks like Be Ambitious 2.0) all look somewhat similar. At least SISTAR puts a different spin on their sexy concepts: Loving U, Alone, GITM are all sexy, but none of them have taken it too far & they're not stripping. Starship has done pretty well with them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, like I want to see Manber in tight shorts and a bra...

    ReplyDelete
  27. You'd be surprised how many people are turned on by girls pretending to be cute and innocent.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sex sells, that's never gonna change. Now you can either try to fight it and lose or you can accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. dream off. my girls have class not like your unnirs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. idk, in my opinion, their selling is not related with their sexy concept.
if they have a great song, that's why everyone loves it right?
especially if they bought their digital album, we just could hear the song and didn't see their "sexy" outfit or dance

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm just gonna say that I love sexy concepts. I don't want guys to be the only ones showing skin lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. 1. [+358, -15] We're going to have to mosaic music programs in 2015 at this rate
mosaic you said LOL that's not going to happen forever

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stop acting like some special snowflake just because f(x) doesn't do "sexy" concepts.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love f(x), but just because a group doesn't do sexy doesn't make them classier. It just means SM didn't give them any sexy concepts.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why isn't there a number for Dal Shabet's Have, Don't Have?

    ReplyDelete
  36. lalallalallallalllalallalla i love that :) special snowflake :) why??? because my girls is waaaaaaay up there even though they dont wear something sexy? :) i know rightttt??? :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. because if boy groups strip their clothes on stages there are a lot of FANGIRLS enjoying them that much, louder and louder than the screams for girl groups. can't deny the fact

    ReplyDelete
  38. those legs of them can arouse me already. fap fap fap

    ReplyDelete
  39. IIIIIIIllllllllllIIllIIlJuly 26, 2013 at 2:05 AM

Pretty sure you aren't a really f(x) fan, you are just trying to make them look bad. Nice try.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lee Joon has also touched on this subject

    ReplyDelete
  41. sexy concepts =/= long term profit ....

    ReplyDelete
  42. wow, i thought being sexy is the the cheapest and easiest way for a fame if u have nothing more to offer, no? f(x) and 2ne1 dont need that <3

    ReplyDelete
  43. Because they are talking about idols who are performing on stage where any age group can see it easily if they watch those tv shows. While those man
stripper can only shown to people who already 18/21 and above so they could go in to those strip club and watch guys/girls stripping(But I know there are some people fake their IC). Don't tell me your fellow men strip to a group of teenages(13-16) to earn money O.o But of course if your fellow men are those guys who just want money and can strip to any age groups I have nothing to say. And one more question do your men strip on the public or private room or club..?
One problem is more and more girl groups are wearing lesser and lesser clothes while most of boy group are wearing more and more weird make up. Now we don't really see boy groups strip. It wasn't really a double standard just see how 2pm get bash last time when they just debut and keep tearing their shirt. People also called them man stripper or whatever you called them.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "People call male exposure hot but female exposure cheap"

    ReplyDelete
  45. 2. [+297, -36] I think later, they're going to look back and wonder to themselves, "What did I do as a singer.....?"

    Netizen's words of wisdom ,

well not only talking about the sexy concepts , their songs's lyrics don't have a meaning or I guess I'm the only one who don't understand the lyrics ...

And becoming a popular singer is so hard , you need to be beautiful, and talented but now that is not enough , so many idols sell themselves in order to become a famous singers...

And again "What Does a Singer Actually do?"

    ReplyDelete
  46. You seem to have forgotten Chocolate Love.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Let me quote Lee Joon here why is it that men who are sexy are hot/cool while women are called cheap. Unfair system.

    ReplyDelete
  48. we're talking about girl groups because that's what the article is about

    ReplyDelete
  49. only the fangirls. fanboys are enjoying it to satisfy their desires.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just because a group goes for sexy, it doesn't mean they have nothing left to offer. There are groups that enjoy changing things up to try out new things. Stop generalizing & putting down other girl groups just to make 2NE1 & f(x) appear better. If you want to go there, SNSD has never done a sexy concept either but I'm not about to put Girl's Day down because they ditched their cutesy concepts.

    ReplyDelete
  51. =SISTAR=
Give it to Me (6/2013) Almost 10,000
    Loving U (7/2012) Almost 6,000

is this the number of physical sale?

    ReplyDelete
  52. You couldn't be more wrong. BEG have some of the best vocals in kpop and the best idol rapper, yet are the some the sexiest women in kpop.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's basically all of the money they earned off of that song based off of Physical sales digital sales and money they earned from events.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh btw, I'm guessing you forgot about this performance.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 2PM's comeback was quite provocative I guess. Did anyone say anything about that? Shame that it kind of flopped really.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Why does this comment get many down votes when it is true?

    ReplyDelete
  57. That was a musical version of Coyote Ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think this really only applies to Dal shabet and Girl's day. They are probably making more money because of their sexy concept.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Netizen logic:
Cute/aegyo = grow the hell up you're in your 20's!
Sexy = stop stripping as being slutty!
    Like WTF.

    ReplyDelete
  60. these number aren't good tho... sex sells but only to a certain point. offer more substance boys and girls and you'll have a brighter career.

    ReplyDelete
  61. or Mr. Boogie!
as much as I love Krystal & Sulli and how hot they look this comeback, their skirts were way too short for their fans to complain about exposure.

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's a pretty known fact that sex sells. But just like the cutesy image was shed by girl groups so they can become 'mature' I feel like that will happen to the sexy image. It's just going to be thrown away.

Honestly, the only way an image can last long is if the group is talented. BEG are literally the sexiest girl group, yet their talent over shadows the concept and makes it work.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not to mention that both of them were only like 15 at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  64. For them to be the trend right now, they are not that expensive

    ReplyDelete
  65. ....can u read? Im questioning the article and therefore the conversation that followed.

    ReplyDelete
  66. this! girl are the one who complains not guys who are supporting these girl group (with a few females)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Not sure if you are stupid or just stupid. Or both.

    ReplyDelete
  68. she is stupid obviously

    ReplyDelete
  69. If that's the money that they make from a single song, then it's really sad. Even if that's net profit after the company and staff cut, that's basically nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  70. and if they have a hip hop concept they are tryhards

    ReplyDelete
  71. Edited to "You'd be surprised how many people are turned on by girls who are cute and innocent"

Not going to dispute that at all, but the one thing they have going for them is that I don't think they are actually pretending very much. They're all pretty much as naive/immature/young/whatever as their image portrays them to be.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Though maybe I am not that clever, but seem like you are not that clever too to say others are stupid. You should brush your mouth. Remember when you are point finger to others there are another four are pointing back to you:)

    ReplyDelete
  73. All girls in kpop have done sexy concept at some point in their career even f(x) and 2ne1 so stop judging and get over it. There is nothing wrong with being sexy.

    ReplyDelete
  74. stop repeating his words goddammit, thats the point.

    ReplyDelete
  75. well honestly...most of kpop groups who do hip hop are tryhards..*cough*YG*cough*

    ReplyDelete
  76. Right. .cuz hes he only one who thought it. Hes the only one with opinions. Fuck off.

    ReplyDelete
  77. lol what about Glam, Evol, t-ara n4, d-unit, tiny g....are they from YG?

    ReplyDelete
  78. really? have you looked at the releases this year?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I did brush my teeth in the morning, thank you very much for caring. I CANT point a finger at u atm. As u can see...this is the internet. And finally, trust me. You're pretty stupid. Proof? Your goddamn comments.

    ReplyDelete
  80. that doesn't make any sense...you seem like a frigid Christian virgin no offense.

    ReplyDelete
  81. she is probably 12

    ReplyDelete
  82. Dont u dare criticise christian virgins. They arent stupid. Or retarded.

    ReplyDelete
  83. yeah and their songs make no fucking sense.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think Girl's Day should thank Tony. But to be honest, I did love their songs more that SISTARs

    ReplyDelete
  85. It's still no better than those clothes in the 90's for idol groups. Like ahdjrkensf.

    ReplyDelete
  86. There is a lot more to the increased interest in those respective groups than sexy concepts.

For example, people tend to forget that Girls Day initially gained interest with Sparkling Sparkling. Which was a pretty cute concept. The reason why there doing well these days be is because first of Expectation was a good song. Yes it was a sexy concept but they could have a sexy concept and a bad aong and it would have tanked. Expectation garnered the initial interest than there was the whole Tony Ahn and Hyeri scandal. Along with female president being a decent song. Which equals more events, more Cfs more money.

With Sistar they always had a sexyish concept most of the time. They have also raised there profile since last year as well solidifying themselves as digital queens and currently on top of the music world. No wonder events are increasing for them

I think the only girl group that a sexy concept as some benefit is Dal Shabet, they were nugus before at least now there getting noticed for something.

    ReplyDelete
  87. My personal opinion, it's ok to be sexy - just try to keep it to a "comfortable to watch" range i.e Lee Hyori. Let's say you're watching music broadcast with your kids or parents, and the dances are too suggestive to the extent you feel awkward watching it with kids/parents, then I'd say that's too much (case in point: Bikiny's MV).

People will say I am biased, but guys tearing their tops on shows = not awkward to watch. Girls stripping in any way, whether top or bottom = kinda awkward only because women has more sensitive parts to look at i.e boobs and vayjayjay. I think SISTAR does well, because their costume can be sexy, but I am more focused on their dance moves.

    ReplyDelete
  88. you dont know them irl so stop it,girls arent as innocent as you think they are,if cube gave them a sexy concept.do you think they will refuse it cause theyre innocent and naive?no.its all in the company's hands.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hearing this I wonder how Crayon Pop will evolve LOL I hope they won't. They're really cute and fun.

    ReplyDelete
  90. You can be sexy without being slutty and I think that's what netizens are getting at. Like Lee Hyori some of the outfits she wore during Bad Girl were woah and if any girl group member wore them they would have gotten shut slammed. But Lee Hyroi didn't you know why? Bc she pulls it off with confidence.

Honestly, Dal Shabets leg dance and Girls Days butt dance is asking for attention. Like look at us. But they come off rather cheap than sexy. Idk that's my view on things

    ReplyDelete
  91. I was talking about TRYHARDS..you know the ones who claim they have ''swag''

    ReplyDelete
  92. too much skin exposure is a no-no.. degrading women..

    ReplyDelete
  93. but it's pretty likely that sexy concepts don't make a significant difference to the money a boy group brings in. you won't see a huge increase in a boy group's revenue just for taking their shirt off. boy groups don't seem to benefit that much from it so it's not worth bringing up in an article like this

i would totally be in favour of more sexy boy group concepts though lol

    ReplyDelete
  94. Don't understand this articles logic, loving you was probably a more sexy consept than give it to me.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hanna J. Salamanes RuizJuly 26, 2013 at 2:55 AM

They're not anymore promoting about their songs but their bodies. And it is so sad cuz they just like selling their flesh for a good marketing result for the benefit of their company. But they don't even think or care about themselves & how are their parents feelings

    ReplyDelete
  96. This was already proven to be profitable a long time ago so why the fuss now? Also this works for both genders, females and MALES alike!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I hate it when girls throw around the word slut...it's so sad that girls always get slut shamed for being sexy

    ReplyDelete
  98. Wow. That was the point.

    ReplyDelete
  99. sexy but classy is something that the idols and the company should aim for.. don't let the sexy concept make the idols look cheap

    ReplyDelete
  100. Learn something from Lee Joon, K-netizens. AND COME ON, they are not even stripping. -.- I don't see the problem. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  101. and I was taking about k-netizens judging girl's concepts like if any girl try to be sexy she is a slut
if she is cute she is too old for that and she does hip hop concept she is a tryhard. I was not talking about Yg. You are obv a troll

    ReplyDelete
  102. I really didn't see anyone calling 2PM strippers. The thing is. we are talking about double standards. It's not about who gets the right to strip from how long they debuted. These groups are not rookies, and they still get called out on it.

And really, even if 2PM were called strippers, it's not about that, but the words the population uses to describe boys and girls. When boys strip or are sexy, the majority of people either doesn't care, mentions something about modesty, or fully embraces it. Whereas when girls do it, suddenly the are downgraded to sex objects, or they are cheap. You see how it changes? When men strip nobody ever thinks that's the only think they are capable of doing, but when a girl does suddenly it's the only thing she is good at? Men can be sexy, and they can be anything they want to be, it's just that they are hot. If women are sexy, suddenly that's the only thing they are good at. Men won't be judged by their appearances alone, but girls will?

This doesn't happen all the time, but I've seen it plenty, plenty enough to be worrisome.

    ReplyDelete
  103. What are you, six years old? "Make me" no thanks. That'd be pedophilia.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I don't like all the skin showing these days by men or women but I prefer them having a sexy concept above I'm a woman but I act and dress like a 5 year old concept.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's actually the opposite for me when it comes to SISTAR. Sometimes, especially when I come in here, it feels like I am the only one who likes Female President

    ReplyDelete
  106. Can I be a nuisance and say that's why I admire f(x)? They are this psychedelic group of cute, curious women with that next-door girl kind of look, and a dash of tantalising skin with no sugary aegyo thrown in there just for the sake of it?

It's like people doesn't give SM credit enough for managing their girl groups in that sense. You bet hell will freeze before SNSD and f(x) are blamed for the typical fanfare other girl groups usually do.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I'm a girl and I'm not complaining either. It doesn't bother me

    ReplyDelete
  108. but they have done some sexy concepts though not overly sexy obviously but they are girls after all.....there is nothing wrong with that

    ReplyDelete
  109. well, you can feel those who comments like are the jealous fangirls. fanboys do love all the concepts what the girl groups do.

    ReplyDelete
  110. those k-netz are jealous fangirls. fanboys do love all the concepts what the girl groups do.

    ReplyDelete
  111. One would logically sell better after each comeback. This article has very little point.

    ReplyDelete
  112. disqus_OcIgNM9dBHJuly 26, 2013 at 3:18 AM

    no shit.
don't those groups claim to have swag too?

    ReplyDelete
  113. They did refuse it though. Their company pushed them to have a more mature concept for this comeback and they didn't want it. They are waiting until their youngest graduates from high school.

    ReplyDelete
  114. i like sistar, sistar's dance and song is seriously addicting, but yeah. the problem is the clothes

    ReplyDelete
  115. but cl got less love calls after the bulge concept....

    ReplyDelete
  116. lol t-ara n4? hip-hop? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  117. yeah their dance is quite provocative.. but yes it didn't make any headlines.. seems like no one cares about 2pm..

    ReplyDelete
  118. ooo yeah i remember that police uniform that seo in young wore for one of their MVs

    ReplyDelete
  119. what does cl have to do with this?
    she did hip hop.

    ReplyDelete
  120. You're not alone - I generally prefer boy groups, but I fucking love Girl's Day. I've liked them ever since I first saw the video for Oh! My God. If you haven't watched the episode where they were guests on After School Club, you have to do it now. The girls are hilarious, and for once I didn't die from secondhand embarrassment. I like Sistar a lot too but Give It To Me was just meh...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKtt2SRwTVY

    ReplyDelete
  121. welcome:) But normally you should brush twice a days. Did I say you pointing at me? I only say others;) Look like you are not clever too. welcome to the stupid club:D

    ReplyDelete
  122. lol if shorts and tanktops arent sexy then i dont know what is

    ReplyDelete
  123. Korea should stop gender discrimination, they always blame the girls for what happen, and they have to admit that they enjoy sexy girls and boys, who doesn't

    ReplyDelete
  124. That's what most "Uncle Fans" are right?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah, sort of. The cute female idols tend to have more uncle fans than others. Take IU for example.

    ReplyDelete
  126. take girls day for example, everyone thought they were all innocent, cute & naive girls but then BAM!
    sexy concept.
and let me say that this worked for the best, their popularity skyrocketed.

    ReplyDelete
  127. igab was probably in the middle of sexy & cute.

    ReplyDelete
  128. But I did. You never saw it doesn't mean people didn't say or write it before.

'When boys strip or are sexy, the majority of people either doesn't care'
Are you sure about that? ok they didn't care but they look down on them like how they look down on girl stripper too.

'When men strip nobody ever thinks that's the only think they are capable of doing, but when a girl does suddenly it's the only thing she is good at? Men can be sexy, and they can be anything they want to be, it's just that they are hot. If women are sexy, suddenly that's the only thing they are good at. Men won't be judged by their appearances alone, but girls will?'
To me at least i disagree with it. Just try to find articles on both girl and guy strippers, comments about them are about the same. Or find those video that interviews customers and stripper.(of course didn't show the face)

And I don't know if you know, In one country(i think is Japan) if you married a girl who act AV before or stripper(sorry I forgot is which job about is related to these jobs) other guys will be envious and jealous about it. As for Guys I forgot already but should be the opposite of them. If I didn't remember wrong they will choose to hide it from their partner. For guys, I am refering to GV not AV

  130. There's a reason why I chose the word immature instead of innocent. I don't think all of Apink are angels, but I just wanted to make the point that the way they do cute isn't really as manufactured as some other groups. They pretty much act their age (and when one of them just turned 17 - it's pretty young) and are kind of ridiculous at times, and I think that's the main reason why they've been able to acquire the sizable fanbase that they have.

  131. I got into kpop a few years ago due to it be different from north american music where it's all about sex, money, and drugs. Sad to say, with the direction the industry is heading, it'll be transformed into this kind of music in at least 10 years. I really hope that company authorities wake up to realize that one of the biggest reasons why so many international fans turn to glittery kpop is for its purity, and that they'll cease with these concepts. This article is saying that these groups are getting money from companies, but where's the income from fans and the public? Look at how big 'Gee' and A Pink are with their innocent concepts. Continuous sexy concepts are okay, but with lyrics that suggest sexual motives and clothes that are so revealing might not be for the best in the long run. As a girl myself, I do see the unfairness with these girls and the responses they're getting for their outfits. However, it is not their clothes that are the problem, but the public and their way of reacting towards them. I still have to admit though, that their shorts/dresses are getting shorter and shorter...

tl;dr Too much sexiness in a conservative country will get bad response from public. Another meeting with the sociologist, stylist, and accountant might be a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  132. sexy concept is not about the clothes. yes nowadays fx wore short pants and skirts, show abs and legs but their dance and song is not provocatively sexy like sistar or girls day

    ReplyDelete
  133. wtf nonono has swaying butt dances and thats screaming school girl innocent sexy look at me fantasy

  139. Eeeiiii... Don't compare Female President with Expect... Compare it with Twinkle Twinkle, Expect has a sexy concept too you know

    ReplyDelete
  140. The overall concept wasn't sexy though. Chocolate Love was kinda sexy, but SNSD has never really had a sexy concept.

  141. Sort of adding to what you've written: Most countries have different forms of a patriarchy developed cultural system and this puts gender stereotyping on both genders, and a lot are senseless and based on archaic values that might have once been reasonable in a different time but are redundant today yet are held onto simply because they have always been that way. Each gender has a pre-ordained box they are meant to fit in with perks and problems, some are based on biology/medicine which is fine but much of it could be ironed out and genders could be viewed and treated more fairly. A lot of people know all this but they take single parts of this limiting system and are blind to the rest. Some people who try to undermine feminism by pointing out the woes of the male sex in society don't see its exactly the same sexism, gender stereotyping mentally that are causing such issues but it takes on different forms and in different places.
Its like men can walk around shirtless but will likely have their sexually questioned (and be called emasculating insults) if they wore hot pants. However there are people protesting against men going around bear chested. Women can wear hot pants (but may also be disapproved of) but they can't go completely topless (but in some places bikini tops are ok).
Men who shave get called 'gay', Women who don't shave get called 'gross'.

Men dressing like women are taking a step down and its a form of ridicule, but its okay for women cross dress as men because that's a step up unless they look too much like a lesbian then they get insulted and gossiped about.
I'm sure everyone can think of their own examples and may even know someone they've insulted based on their style and dress without knowing that individual personally or stopping to question the senselessness of judging people for these qualities or how successfully they've been indoctrinated to the conformist view of what is 'proper' for genders to dress and act when it actually has no bearing on their potential attractiveness to others and yourself in any personal way. You can train yourself out of these modes of thinking and this might be a step in the right direction against prejudices over gender stereotyping.

What the hell are the netizens complaining about ! It's the public fault that makes them like this, They try the sexy concept once and everybody loves it of course they are going to keep with it !!

    ReplyDelete
  143. They've always had bold sexy concepts in K-pop. But even the sexiest concepts in K-pop can't compare to the sexiest concepts in Western pop. In Western pop you can perform on TV in a g-string and bra. You couldn't do that in Korea. And in Korea they have to try do it a little more tastefully. For example, they will do lots of butt shaking and stuff, but in America the artists will open their legs wide and squat and thrust. It's much racier in America. K-pop is still a level where it hasn't gone too far, but Western pop can be a bit much when there's singer's there that only do sexy concept but never anything else. At least group's like SECREt, Girl's Day, Dal Shabet etc change their concepts and go from cute to classy to sexy. In American pop it's almost sexy concept 24/7

    ReplyDelete
  144. The purpose of this article is simple: It's been NEARLY two weeks since Sistar and Girl's Day were last gang bashed by jealous fan-girls.

Section 17, Article 2 of the fan girl charter DEMANDS bashing of said girl groups before, during and after major releases from other groups, i.e F(x) and BEG. As you can plainly see, that time is niiiiiiiigh. -_-

    ReplyDelete
  145. "Cute/aegyo = grow the hell up you're in your 20's!"
you're funny, that's actually the reaction of most ifans rather than knetizens

    ReplyDelete
  146. no, actually the netizen's comments can be quite important in korea

    ReplyDelete
  147. are you kidding me? this concept is far from a sexy concept like dalshabet and girlsday. Nowadays everything is called a sexy concept uh

    ReplyDelete
  148. But not all north American music is about "sex money and drugs" though what are you on about.

    ReplyDelete
  149. it explains why they keep using the sexy concept...
i have nothing against being sexy as long as it doesn't look cheap.
look at Bikiny ! their songs was pretty catchy but watching their MV made feel feel so uncomfortable for them. The sog was basically an excuse to show their areas, butts and boobs.

i wonder what these groups feel when they meet their seniors in the music programs' waiting rooms ?

    ReplyDelete
  150. well...at least I don't see someone dancing in booty shorts in korea and hyuna does not count, her shorts are not the type which shows their butt cheeks

    ReplyDelete
  151. Sistar is pretty good at the sexy concept....but they arent good with cutesy concepts

    ReplyDelete
  152. if they mature, their concepts will probably be quirkier when the time for the cute concepts end...lol as in the lee jung hyun kind of quirky.

    ReplyDelete
  153. My teacher told me once something like "internet was first designed/invented for porn" but I'm not sure if it's true or not...

    ReplyDelete
  154. after a certain age, they can do the same thing but it has to be less of the ridiculous outfits...except the mv will be creepy as fuck @_@ lee jung hyun's V is creepy in the beginning

    ReplyDelete
  155. still doesn't explain they have tried sexy/is trying sexy at all

Apink just get fans in another way that work for them the best and doesn't get hate as much as sexy concepts does

    ReplyDelete
  156. true,ACUBE actually listened to them, and Apink thinks it right

when they aren't ready for sexy, they aren't going for sexy

even if they try sexy concept in future,i dont think it will be something like Female President or that Dal Shabet's song

it's going to be something like 5 My Baby

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-TqUWglS9A

    ReplyDelete
  157. This is only in semi-relation to your post, but I feel like so much blame on fangirls' behaviors, but normally it's both female and male fans slut shaming female idols way too much. This needs to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  158. can't deny that they got known thanks to it (dal shabet is now remembered as the camel toes idols...btw after that I can't believe they received more calls, I thought they'd be ridiculous and not gain a thing). So they won for now, but on the long run it's gonna ruin them as they will have bad reputations and only performanes in bars given sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I said their concept is not overly sexy...so obviously it's not like delshabet or girl's day but they are showing some legs and they look good and it's not like they only have weird outfits all the time....

    ReplyDelete
  160. what about genie?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Your are saying this like it's a crime being sexy.....you need to watch their latest video then RPPP t's a little sexy especially Krystal and Sulli

    ReplyDelete
  162. ongdongee0breakdownJuly 26, 2013 at 9:50 AM

    their image gradually becomes importunate.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Most Kpop girls balance out cute and sexy concepts, so why are netizens tripping? Girl's Day have done a number of cute congs before they made the transition to sexy. Sistar suits sexy concepts better than cute ones, but they've also done a few cute concepts, as tie ins to a sexy comeback.

Netizens sound bitter. They always do. Not liking sexy concepts is one thing, but they are derogatory and judgmental to the point to being jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  164. They look great to me.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Same thing Lee Joon was saying.

    ReplyDelete
  166. they looks great, have reasonable singing talent and are making money. Netizens what is your deal yo. If sexy concept didn't sell, nobody would do it...

    ReplyDelete
  167. That's why she's on a new SBS show right? Less love calls LOL

    ReplyDelete
  168. Just another netizenJuly 26, 2013 at 11:12 AM

#1 hilarious XD but, nah. I doubt it...

#3 aren't alot of the music shows 15+ rating? I thought I saw the viewer discretion thing on Music Bank (the one on KBSWorldTV) says so...

    ReplyDelete
  169. when I first landed in kpopland, i thought the sexy -cute comebacks were extremely bipolar... when i watched "Gee" and "run devil run" or "Madonna" and "Shy Boy" back to back, I was like "are they the same girls?"... its true the sexy concepts are on a rise now but they act like its the 1st time it happens.. Im also surprised that if k.netizens comment they dont like the sexy concepts then how these groups have climbed so far in charts and their mvs hit million views?? theyre clearly hypocrites lol

    ReplyDelete
  170. Well no one can beat sluttiness and bitchiness of theses k-netizen can they? They basically bitch about everything they see

    ReplyDelete
  171. Since they're sexy so just leave it be lmao

    ReplyDelete
  172. I don't understand why people hate on Girl's Day that much. Dal Shabets song was indeed problematic and I understand the backlash but Girl's Day song was ok. Yes the lyrics where stupid but I thought the song and the dance were fine. They might not be Lee Hyori but their live performances are actually pretty good. It just seems like Girl's Day has become the group everybody loves to hate -_-

    ReplyDelete
  173. It's not just K-netizens though.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Well, I guess it is because there was the long 'cute' era in between, so people weren't quite ready to see the 'sexy' concept again.

    ReplyDelete
  175. This is a flawed chart. I should hope groups get more love calls with each comeback because more people know them. Companies don't want nobodies promoting their products, and event organizers don't want to invite groups when no fans will show up.

I bet Alone, which was also a sexy concept, has less profit than Loving U because by the time Loving U was released, Sistar was riding on the popularity of Alone. It's a snowball effect.

    ReplyDelete
  176. ...you obviously have no clue what happened, you spoke a bout netizens accusing some idols or whatever that theyre tryhards and I told you that some actually ARE tryhards, you're just deluded,i am not a troll just because I dont agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Don't blame them, blame society. If it wasn't profitable in the first place their CEOs wouldn't force them to do it, now would they?

    ReplyDelete
  178. that's what I was thinking. Like they may drop the cutesy part but I don't think they would drop their quirky aspect.

    ReplyDelete
  179. sexy doesn't always mean by mini outfits, showing boobies, legs or such things.. showing your butts and shake it.. a woman with jeans and over size shirt looks sexy tho..

they looks cheap.. poor those girls.. their CEO turn them into cheap one.. not sexy...

    ReplyDelete
  180. I actually liked Girls Day before the whole Tony Ahn and Hyeri thing and there excessive media play. Expectation was a good song the dance made sense with the lyrics everything just worked well. But Female President the song is pretty decent it's just the dance is cheap it makes no sense with the lyrics and there just asking for attention. Idk they seem like try hards now.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Yes, you are right. Not all is about sex, money, and drugs, but you can't deny that those topics are more popular in north american music compared to kpop. And.. that wasn't the main point of my comment...

    ReplyDelete
  182. ...that is like lady gaga dressing normal for her stages LOL

    ReplyDelete
  183. it looks cheap when it is done the wrong way....it looks classy when you aren't wearing panties or booty shorts that show off your butt cheeks

    ReplyDelete
  184. SISTAR's 'Loving U' was pretty sexy, but it was cute-sexy.

    ReplyDelete
  185. It's a Ssanti concept. ;) and yeah, their change will probably be a little different than what we are used to seeing but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing!

    ReplyDelete
  186. I wouldn't even know what to label T-ARA N4's song. I'd just label it as 'experimental' cause it was another one of those songs this year that isn't exactly easy to describe.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Girl's Day's butt dance was the LEAST criticized thing about their comeback in my opinion. The MV outfits and the way the MV was edited were what people criticized more, the butt dance is actually awesome to me and it's my favorite part of the dance haha! I think it looks really cool live with the tail part of the outfit... but the way they edited it in the MV makes it look cheap even though it's not.
Yes, it has no relevancy to the lyrics or anything but neither does KARA's butt dance, SNSD's Genie leg dance, Dal Shabet's dance, the hip hop portions of SNSD's I Got A Boy... majority of dances are made without any relevancy to the song so I don't like judging that very much. Girl's Day had an eye-catching dance and they shouldn't be made fun of for that. SISTAR19's Ma Boy was focused on their body waves (which most men clearly loved watching for obvious reasons) yet nobody criticized them at all. It's no different really.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Girl, are you 10 or something??! You sound so childish and immature!

    ReplyDelete
  189. As a guy who is gay, I am a LOT more open minded when it comes to concepts than other fans. I enjoy when girls do sexy concepts and display confidence, or cute concepts that make me feel happy (although aegyo voices are a no no... cute without aegyo voices like A Pink's NoNoNo is my style). I can appreciate guys showing off abs and being confident, and also being innocent and funny on stage. Even if they wanna be cute or do aegyo, fine with me.
When it comes down to it, it's exactly what you said: jealous girls are the ones who are criticizing these idols.

    ReplyDelete
  190. It's cause Hyroin can actually sing. Ma Boy was a reallllly good song. The waves aka body rolls are actually really hard to do. And is also a legit type of dance form.

    ReplyDelete
