ReplyDeleteTo be honest, it makes sense too. Each of Big Bang were groomed and trained in their individual talents for years before they debuted. One Direction was thrown together through a singing competition and none of them were signed to a company beforehand that trained them in vocals (though a few might have had vocal instructors?). So, the comparison between 1D and Big Bang really doesn't hold any water.
Hyuna has great charisma, she was the best during her "change" days..

Most of the artists that are worldwide like JB and One Direction were not trained and taught how to do shit like Big Bang and other idols were. They didn't have a company spending time trying to show them shit, they taught themselves. People can boast about this real artist shit with Big Bang, but at the end of the day, Big Bang was formed by YG, trained by YG, and monitored up until this point by YG. They are another creation, IDK why VIPs act like Big Bang are some mythilogical creatures that came out of the woods already knowing how to do everything.

What companies do is recuit people who are either talented or who have potential. The trainee days are to refine their skills, teach them how to perform, and also it's a period for the companies to figure out who to put in what groups.

Korea and Japan have companies that are talent agencies, dance schools, singing schools, acting schools, and record labels all rolled into one.
America's entertainment industry is different, in that talent agencies record labels, and dance/music/acting schools are all separate entities. American record labels will sign people who impress with their talent, but you have to think about what that artist went through to become that talented.
Although, you should probably know that even American artists have vocal coaches, dance teachers, and acting tutors as well. It's just that they're hired rather than provided for by their record label.

Can't really knock something or a system just because it's different. Korea, Japan, and America have different ways of doing things but all three countries' industries have produced really talented artists... Big Bang included.

The Biebs is ok. Unfortunately, it's not just kpop fans being elitist he really does have a poor image with the general american public (that is not teenage girls aged 13-19). Big Bang, on the other hand, is generally well-received and well-looked upon (scandals aside) by the Korean public even outside their so-called target market. That is why the comparison does not sit well with VIPs. Image is a huge part of pop music as well, you should know.

One Direction is just as much as an idol group as Big Bang because they were put together and trained. One Direction didn't make it in X-Factor as soloists and Simon Cowell put them into a group.
ReplyDeleteI started to like BIGBANG when I was 16, and it has been almost 6 years since then. They are the only boyband or per se mainstream pop act that I listen to these days if you dont count Maroon5. And probably if I listened to their music now, I wouldnt have paid attention to them tbh. But I would still argue BIGBANG is better than Bieber and 1D united. I dont know if Bieber and 1D write their own music, I dont listen to them, I dont even know if they can sing, I've heard only one of their most popular songs, and even if they did have all of these qualities in them none of them had an impact that BIGBANG had on society during their debut days, at least in Korea. Well they are Korean artist in the end. They changed ballad-centered kpop world to more upbeat songs; Lies, Last Farewell and Haru Haru were phenomenal not just because they are good songs but it actually moved public's music interest to something else than just a ballad. They made hip-hop clothes mainstream in Korea, they set trends. I am not saying they invented hip hop clothes or upbeat songs, but they were the ones who made it popular to general public in Korea. And thats why they are even after so many scandals still staying strong, no matter how many shits netizens talk about them they still look forward to their new songs and actually buy them. It can be shown in any chart of korea since 2007. As far as it goes to worldwide impact, I dont think they have a big chance, but I was happy when NY times acknowledged their talent which they never did for any kpop artist before.

ReplyDeleteI don't know how you can assume that GD's status as a writer and producer is some kind of "media play" when he has numerous songs copyrighted under his name. You cannot get a copyright of a song under YOUR name if you didn't create it.
I think even people with only the slightest familiarity with the legal system understands at least that much, so why don't you?
I think it's very plausible that 1D knows about Big Bang. A year ago, there was an article that mentioned them both (while praising Big Bang). Plus, since Big Bang won at the EMAs last year, the chances of any "global" group knowing them at this point seems VERY likely.

There is usually a co-producer/composer to help them; nothing wrong with that, just that what comes out of that is really nothing to write home about most of the time, just like lots of other pop idol singer-songwriters.
