yeah, BIG BANG and 2NE1 should thanks PSY, he opened the doors for the American Music Market.
YG baby~
Psy should thank BIGBANG cz they basically makes YG name
ReplyDeleteBIGBANG and 2ne1 cz they were yg money maker for 2011 and the previous years
But no, they don't need each other gratitude
They're hyung dongsaeng after all
Yg fam ♥
sohee the most beautiful korean woman I've ever seen
ReplyDeleteSaranghae, Sohee. ♥ K-Netizens are always so so kind to WG... most of the time.
ReplyDeleteLee Hi would flop in america...
ReplyDeleteSohee's proportions oh my what
ReplyDeleteuri yoseobie fighting ^^q
ReplyDeleteis that even an issue right now? when did anyone ever talk about lee hi going to america?
ReplyDeleteExcept when they talk about their singing skills. Besides Yenny and Sunye, the rest are horrible.
ReplyDeleteso far the only ones trying to take advantage of yg success in the west is hyuna and snsd. well, cant expect anything less from cube and sm
ReplyDeleteWhat hapenned to Lee Hi in the MAMA epik high performance?
ReplyDeleteshe was like a robot ..
but she's the best female singer in YG, better than Bom and all. Lee Hi is like the korean version of Adele.
ReplyDeleteevery kpop group like suju, shinee, bb, snsd will even flop. so lee hayi is just amongst them.
ReplyDeletethe way Lee hi look at the camera XD
ReplyDeleteLee Hayi was a bit too off
ReplyDeleteWhat SNSD ???? lol
ReplyDeleteAilee or IU >>>> Lee Hi
ReplyDeleteYang Yoseob is the next Xiah Junsu.
ReplyDeletelol She's always had that "look" when she performs, ever since "K-Pop Star." But the song was also out of her element so I'm not surprised at the obvious stiffness. xD
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure I agree. Her voice is definitely unique enough to raise eyebrows. If she keeps singing songs like "1, 2, 3, 4" and not "Scarecrow" I think she'd be able to raise some attention at least.
ReplyDeleteprobably nervous
ReplyDeleteher stage presence is KPOPStar and in korea is different
IU will flop is US too
ReplyDeleteonly Aillee
i was more disappointed at her actual singing...nerves aside, it simply shows that the song doesn't suit her; she's just not comfortable singing in that range and all the while evoking a sense of 'coldness'. Her natural singing voice radiates warmth and it sounds much better that way.
ReplyDeletebest female singer in YG currently is Gummy. And best in YG doesn't mean she's one of the best in korea. She's got a good voice, but singers from urban zakapa, w and whale etc have a much better chance of gaining a niche fanbase overseas with the right promotional resources.
ReplyDeletein korea '1, 2, 3, 4' may be popular, but in the american context it sounds basic tbh, because that kind of song has been done by so many soulful vocalists and way better. Her soulful voice alone won't make her stand out given the abundance of singers in the states with the same sort of vocal tone but with better skills and stage presence etc. And i doubt US will find her awkwardness endearing either; her personality is simply too bland. I think the artists who can actually gain some sort of attention in the states are some of the indie bands (provided they can get enough marketing to back them up) because they've actually got the voices and music that are unique to the american music scene. As of late certain indie bands in the US have had some success and i think more listeners are moving towards non- mainstream music
ReplyDeletepsy success not yg success
ReplyDeletethey havent even tried to advance to the US, how can they thank psy?
ReplyDeleteNot only BB or 2NE1, because PSY only opened the doors to K-Pop, but Americans don't really care if an artist is under the same company.
ReplyDeleteHehe, so proud of our Seobie ♥
ReplyDeleteAilee did flop in the U.S. She was signed to an American label before she went to Korea to becom an idol
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that someone remembers Gummy
ReplyDeleteI agree she has a fantastic voice, but her singing is nothing special
ReplyDeleteI can agree with that. The song, although soulful, is lacking and her personality wouldn't be endearing in the States. They'd probably find her more weird than how Koreans find her, and that's not particularly good in this case.
ReplyDeleteI hope YG works with her in that regard. Her awkwardness is cute because she's young but five years down the line when she's a grown woman it won't be so cute. :/
Sucks that she's been 'ignored' by YG for so long. I've been a K-Pop fan since late 2009 and I've never seen/heard her promote on par with Big Bang/2NE1, even though she released a mini album in 2010.
ReplyDeleteA lot of it has to do with this barrier that Asian Americans have to deal with in the entertainment industry. People are too stuck on Hollywood's portrayal of Asian stereotypes to really give people like Ailee a chance. Far East Movement is the only exception but even they have kind of faded into obscurity :/
ReplyDeleteSohee is gorgeous, wow!
ReplyDeletebeautiful Sohee <3
ReplyDeleteand natural beauty too.
ReplyDeleteshes suppose to represent the queen of ice or coldness in that song with her hauntingly cold image and husky voice. sigh..
ReplyDeleteAilee did flop in the US becuz there are wayyyyy too many singers like her in the US. why should we care for her when we have the likes of Beyonce, Alicia keys, and mariah to give us the catchy songs and the great vocals!???
ReplyDeleteLee Hi is different becuz her voice is not forced and becuz shes a SOUL singer who is only 16. even in the US we don't have a marketable soul singer with commercial appeal in the market right now. this girl could do very VERY well with a strong single in the US becuz shes appealing to that market too with her commercial look and unique voice.
pple can't stand her cuz shes from YG and they obviously see her as a threat to their "perfect" little unnies and idols. out of all the rookies who debuted this year, Lee Hi has got to be the most criticized and bashed rookie to date!
ReplyDeleteshes actually extremely witty and has a very charismatic personality. thats what made koreans love her so much in kpopstar! she also has a very strong backbone and doesnt mind fighting for herself. watch her strong heart interview and u will how she even backfired against Ahyeon who criticized her look by telling her that to put more make up on her face cuz her skin is filled with pimples and spots.
ReplyDeleteeven the head of SBS said that out of all contestants he saw on kpopstar Lee Hi has the most charismatic and interesting personality he had ever come across. shes not afraid to reply back and be witty becuz she has never been trained before.
she told YG in the bts of her MV filming that she doesn't care if anybody finds her weird cuz that how she is and she won't change.
u probably have never seen an episode of her speaking or talking on a show so its really not fair for u to judge her personality as "bland" just based on a MV which BTW LOTS of americans have been praising nonstop.
she was first praised and talked about on the US Billboard music update show and website, then US Wall Street Journal wrote a segment about her voice and talent, and now CNN is talking about her.
all reaction vids on youtube by americans who have never heard of her before have been very favourable and praised her vocals and naturally/not overdone attitude.
look at Adele for a sec..does she need to go around prouncing on stage and belting one high note after the other? no, most of the time shes sitting or standing and singing a ballad.
if she can do it, then this girl definitely can but she will need a strong song to support her and lots of english language training
what i meant by 'personality' mostly pertains to performance/on-stage personality, first impressions mostly come from there and then ppl would actually bother to find out more about you through interviews and such. Only the people who started out watching her on kpopstar would be more knowledgeable of her off-screen personality, but most would judge based on performances and there's nothing wrong with that. Those americans who do praise her vocals on youtube are mostly alr familiar to kpop so im not surprised, because like i said, she does stand out in kpop but i don't see her as a standout act in US. And btw im not denying her talent, because she is a good singer, so praises are relevant, but that has nothing to do with grabbing attention in a foreign market. And again, media coverage is all good, but not likely to help her gain a foothold in the music scene because news outlets do not represent overall public interest. Same goes for other top kpop acts that have received news coverage from some of these sites but have not made much headway despite actually trying to venture into the market.
ReplyDeleteAdele can afford not to be a diva on stage because her songs are sincere and she executes them with emotion, so the songs do actually resonate well with the public (same goes for Leona Lewis to some extent). Currently Lee Hi is still not at that level in terms of delivery; if you're relying more on talent (as opposed to sex appeal or overblown antics like lady gaga) then expectations will be really high and i don't think she can meet them because plenty of American teens on talent shows are either on par with her or can do better. She's a star in kpop but outside of that (even amongst other non-idol korean singers) she just isn't.
Expectations are always high for former top contestants of talent shows. Plus the fact that she's had a lot of marketing backing her up and her status as a 'monster rookie', ppl have the right to set higher standards since she's not just some random cookie-cutter idol. Most ppl aren't bashing on her i think, just not that impressed compared to her performances on kpopstar, so i think constructive criticism is warranted.
ReplyDeleteyeah i really like IU and Ailee. If anyone i think Ailee has potential to be sorta successful in the states.
ReplyDeleteYes it is nice.. I remember her back in the day of classic yg. when it is was Se7en that was the moneymaker back then. lol
ReplyDeleteReading netizen's comments on Yoseob's article.
ReplyDeleteAww. My proud fangirl's heart.
I love her but it was painful to watch.
ReplyDeletenot only that, she didn't sound good
ReplyDeleteAchieving success in america it's all about luck and having a big label to back you up
ReplyDelete"Lee Hi has got to be the most criticized"
ReplyDeleteyou must be joking
Yoseobbie, you're doing well <3
ReplyDeleteAsdfghjkl. I don't think any other kpop artist will make it in the US other than PSY. Because any other artist in the US can match up to any Korean artist you throw at them. Like.. Ailee - Beyonce,, Lee Hi - Alicia Keys or Adele. The biggest reason PSY made it was because he was completely different from everyone else.
Does YG pay CNN I can't think of any other good reason
