Article: Park Jin Young "I thought my first movie would really do well" indifferent response to failed movie
Source: Newsen via Nate
1. [+361, -69] Whether it was a success or a failure, Park Jin Young lives his life to the fullest... It's difficult to be a producer on top of all those other things he's doing but he still enjoys what he's doing, and how amazing is that?
2. [+307, -43] I knew it would fail
3. [+250, -38] I knew it would fail too
4. [+49, -12] Anyone could tell that the movie would fail ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Looks like investors see things differently from the public... Regular people can already tell whether a movie will do well or fail just by the cast and the poster, but investors keep investing in other movies that don't do so well.

Well, the plot sounded dumb as fuck so I don't why he'd be shocked by it tbh. I mean the title is "5 million dollar man" LAME.
ReplyDeleteStill like the guy, but 2012 is just not the man's year in good decision making.
well at least he tried :) how was he supposed to know it would fail. now he knows lol
ReplyDelete1. " still enjoys what he's doing, and how amazing is that?"
ReplyDeleteexactly and that why I love JYP !
why do netizens hate on goo hyesun for trying then...
ReplyDeleteHere's the plot of JYP's movie, Five Million Dollar Man: "A director orders a manager to deliver 5 million dollars of lobbying funds. The director has plans to kill the manager and skim the 5 million dollars for himself, but the manager finds out and fights back." (From asianwiki)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how anyone could think a movie with that as the plot would be anything BUT a failure.
JYP lives his life without abandon and follows his passions... But more often than not, his meticulousness and habit of micromanaging everything himself does him and the people around him more harm than good.
He fails to look at the big picture. All he sees is ONE way to accomplish ONE task and he goes through with it, blindly, merely laughing when he fails. He shouldn't laugh. The lives and careers of dozens of young people who rely on him are in HIS hands, they shouldn't be taken so lightly.
Look at what happened with Wonder Girls. They were at the top of the industry for a few short months before he got it into his head that they fare the same in the US... which they obviously didn't. Meanwhile, in half the time it took for WG to get to the top, SNSD quickly took their place and, in comparison, SM Entertainment is smart enough to hold onto that #1 spot.
Look at miss A, 2PM, 2AM, 15&, Baek Ah-yeon... All of these groups are talented in their own way, but he approaches their music, image, and promotions only ONE way... HIS way. And look at where they are now.
JYP Entertainment is filled to the brim with promising singers, dancers, and actors but none of them will ever accomplish anything more than being simply an "idol" because he is stunting their careers.
The only one with any brains that JYP ever had was Rain, who used his popularity to launch a name for himself despite breaking away from the company.
THIS!
Deletesnsd should thank jyp for letting them be the nations girl group
ReplyDeleterain.. still the best one to come out of jyp
ReplyDeleteIm glad 2AM was quick to realize that they will forever be 2nd option to 2PM so they bailed and left for Big Hit ent. Hitman Bang treats them as top priority nowadays, they stopped using JYP's tracks since 2009. happy for them.
ReplyDeleteWELL SAID!
ReplyDeleteLmao he just keeps serving up the flops
ReplyDeletePeople honestly need to educate themselves on how JYP works. I know it's kind of a clusterfuck, but 2AM obviously can't be bailing on anyone since contracts are a thing. BigHit is a JYP subsidiary. 2AM is still technically under JYP, and if BigHit decided to go independent like Cube did, they would have no rights to 2AM as a group. I don't understand why people hate on JYP for this since it's literally the best thing he could have done for 2AM. JYP sucks ass at producing ballads. Hitman Bang does not.
ReplyDeleteAmen to everything you said. Except for what you implied with "look at where they are now". WG is still much-loved despite not being nation girl group status anymore. The older JYP Nation groups all have a solid fanbase and are able to chart decently. They may not be breaking records or winning all the awards, but they do well for themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat said, JYP Nation stans definitely have a love-hate relationship with the guy. I think JYP is fantastic at building a niche for his artists that helps them stand out (WG with their retro Motown concept, 2PM the beast idols, etc), but once they gain a bit of success he gets lazy. That would be fine if he wasn't such a control freak, but after JYP groups peak, their material tends to get sloppy. All his company needs is a new creative direction. I know some foreign producers worked on Wonder World, and a lot of people agree that that's one of WG's best albums. There are also a handful of talented composers among the JYP Nation artists that could really go far if JYP would just give them more freedom. JYP isn't as involved with 2PM's Japanese stuff, so I'm hoping that they're able to be more hands on with their Korean comeback.
tl;dr I respect JYP's passion, but I wish he'd realize how much potential he's burying in his own company with all his pointless ventures. FOCUS goddammit.
I'm not entirely sure that I buy that WG is still well-loved as many i-fans seem to think. Sunye softens up their image a lot and Sohee is hailed as some sort of great beauty, but as far as their music goes... No on in Korea has any illusions about it—it really stinks.
ReplyDeleteIf Wonder World is considered WG's best album, then that's... pretty sad. It was mediocre and forgettable. It won no accolades and the only track that got any recognition was "Be My Baby". All the other songs didn't even break the Top 5 on any charts.
I sort of agree with you about the "gaining momentum" thing, because it's true in relation to the older groups. But what about Baek Ahyeon, JJ Project, and 15&?
The first two... I think I can understand why they didn't really make it big. But Park Ji-min was the WINNER of SBS Kpopstar. Her debut song should've been a slam dunk, especially because the Korean public had a hand in making her the winner... But instead he chose to stick her with some other girl no one knows and let her flop.
When you compare the success Lee Hi has with YG and Park Ji-min with JYP, the difference is astounding. You listen to Lee Hi's song and look at the music video, and you can literally SEE the amount of effort the company put into her debut. The song was especially written to show of the voice she was recognized for and no expense was spared for her MV and promotional performances on music programs.
JYP needs a new... everything. Producer, creative director, marketing team... Something needs to be done about it because I seriously cannot take it anymore. If another year of flopping for JYP artists passes, I'll give up on them all. It's too sad.
what a lame storyline, and he expected that to become big? LMAO
ReplyDeleteJYP is really trying to hard! =_= watching his mama stage was... i cant stand to watch it till the end. fail jyj fail!
WG still sells very well digitally despite bascially never being in Korea. They're not topping the yearend Gaon digital charts, but they're definitely up there, and that's a testament to the fact that the general public is still interested in what they have to offer. They're obviously losing steam though, if you compare Like This with 2DT.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of Wonder World, tbh I'm not a Wonderful and their music doesn't appeal to me anyway, so I can agree that it was pretty forgettable, but that's our subjective opinions. I definitely don't agree with using performance on charts as a measure of quality. They finally moved away from the catchy pop tune formula and the general consensus I saw internationally was that a lot of fans and non-fans enjoyed it. It also wasn't full of filler songs, which is a plus. There's a couple solid feel-good songs on there.
My impression of JYP debuts is that they tend to suck (minus miss A). I do agree that the 2012 debuts were handled exceptionally poorly though. I don't think JJ Project had a bad debut necessarily, but their subsequent marketing has been horrible. I'm still holding off on judging, but seeing as JYP has clearly bitten off more than he can chew, things aren't looking up. Since you brought up Jimin, I am legit pissed about how her debut was handled. She was head and shoulders above Lee Hi, but like you said, unlike JYP YG actually put effort into Lee Hi's debut.
But anyways, I think it's safe to say that we mostly agree on how badly JYP has been handling his company, so idk why we're writing essays to each other lol. It's just that "flopping" is definitely a word people throw around too easily when it comes to JYP. I would say miss A is dangerously close to flop territory, but everyone else is solid... for now. We'll see about the debuts though.
Oh, just gonna comment on "none of them will ever accomplish anything more than being simply an "idol" because he is stunting their careers" because I missed this point. This is definitely the biggest thing I'm worried about, but tbh this applies to idols in general. Lately I've been feeling like people are getting sick of idol groups, so soloists and bands have been creeping up the charts. Even for a versatile group like Big Bang, I don't see anyone but GD and maybe Taeyang having a long-lasting solo career. In JYP's defense, all the 2PM members have had solo projects this year, and they've been way more involved in their own careers than they were first starting out, so I don't think it's AS bleak as it seems.
u said fail jyj fail omg i actually though "meh not worth it to say anything to this person" but that last sentence crack me up XD
ReplyDeletehave u ever heard of "to each their own"? u dont like his MAMA performance and thinks its a try hard. others might think it took great effort thus loved that performance. so yeah
Lol every JYP article is the same, always the same hate from the same haters.
ReplyDeleteI pity each and every one of you. Please spread your hate somewhere else and start following JYP because all of the top commented hate are outdated. No time to argue with a bunch of haters, seriously.
I don't know about the movie, but it looks like many netizens out there are the future pillars of the entertainment industry.
ReplyDeleteomggg =_____= didnt even realise it ><
ReplyDeleteyeahh i used to love his performances but now, dunno... kinda not really feel it :)
