The thing is.. all those stars has something to back them up. Britney & Christina has their past stardom & Christina is a powerful singer (she's not perfect all the time but you can not deny her voice). Rihanna ..well that's her image.. things that are scandalous is not really scandalous when it comes to her. Plus basically all her songs are hits. She's not great at singing but she's a great performer w/swag people can't deny. Nicki Minaj basically has YMCMB behind her to hype her up.
DeleteHyuna.. no past fame to support her endeavors. She can dance kpop-strong but it's not that strong or impressive to grab attention. She can't sing. & her ability to perform & put on a catching stage, is..um.. shaky/inconsistent.
It's true that there ARE stars in America that has no talent but still have an alright career but the ones you mentioned are not good example AT ALL.
My gripe with Hyuna is that she really does have the feel that she isn't trying nearly as hard enough on stage as she should. Sometimes, she looks like she wants to be anywhere but on stage performing and other times, she won't even open her mouth to sing the words. A lot of the times, she won't even attempt to sing, just letting the MR do all the work for her.
ReplyDeleteAside from Hyuna, all the other singers you mentioned can carry a tune. It all goes down to who has the singing ability to heck with all the blunders except if Hyuna will be introduced as a DANCER and not as a SINGER.

The States preferences are different compared to South Korea's so most if not all of her appeal in Korea is non existent in the States.

ReplyDeleteYep. And I've seen her LIPSYNC though entire performances. There's a vid on YouTube of "Get Me Bodied" where she wanders around on stage while the backup dancers do all the heavy lifting, and the only time she uses her mic is to yell at the audience.

Trust me, these hard-bodied Korean chicks have everything they need as far as looks and talent. The only thing they need to do learn English. HyunA could swallow this country whole if she could rap or sing in English without a goofy accent.
But no one would contest the fact that Beyonce can sing her butt off. Plus, most singers use backtracks and Beyonce isn't an exception to the fact. Hyuna has nowhere near the same credibility that Beyonce has.
ReplyDeleteI think the issue is that the guy sounded a LOT louder than HyunA, probably because he had a real microphone while HyunA had one of those wimpy little headsets. I suspect that HyunA sounds fine in the studio where they can turn up the gain really high. During a live performance, however, they might not be able to amplify HyunA's soft voice without nasty feedback.

The bad thing about it is, you don't see an ounce improvement in her "rapping/singing" and even her dancing skills has become limited. It's more of gyrating, touching and close-up shots. It's not even dancing anymore. But, the thing is there are other idols who also didn't start out as passable singers but more of weak rapper/dancer, but after a few years you can clearly see some improvement in carrying a tune and doing "live" performances, though not consistent. BUt Hyuna is CONSISTENTLY bad and almost always not LIVE and she's to above even mouthing out the lyrics.

ReplyDeleteI've noticed that in K-pop, they will typically use headsets when they are lipsyncing a stage and use a hand-mic if they're actually singing live. So a lot of idols lipsynced to a previous live recording last night not just Hyuna.

She gave one of the WORST performances on SNL of all time, and after about 2 seconds of fake controversy from internet know-it-alls, she went on to become a bigger star than ever.
I know Beyoncé and Christina have a lot of fans, but the reality is that their stardom is built on their looks, not their voices. Yeah, they can sing better than HyunA (when they're sober), but so what? These are not opera singers we're talking about, not even Broadway musical caliber... just pimped out pop stars.
They used to make black people drink at separate water fountains, but it didn't stop the Supremes from becoming the greatest girl group of the 60's.

It was the same during 'Volume Up' promotions, 4Minute members did their best, and Hyuna was just dancing there barely moving her mouth... Her laziness is just hilarious. She could be good, not the best, but good rapper, but she'll never be if she's going to act like that. It's sad.
ReplyDeleteI watched this particular performance and it was obviously that Hyuna was hardly singing whereas Hyunseung, who had a hand mic, sounded exceptionally clear and perfect. Really did feel more like a solo stage with a glorified backing dancer.

And you shouldnt think that US labels only take beautiful/sexy people with not much talent many produce their own songs. Hyuna sometimes has good stage presence but she CAN´T sing, her dancing is good but nothing compared to shakira or even Nicole scherzinger. And her rapping? Sound more like talking in a erotic voice to me. Dont misunderstand I actually really like her as a person she´s adorable but talent wise she´s no one worth mentioning.

i honestly think she hates being on stage. She always looks dead in the eyes whenever she looks at the camera. And her dances are very lackluster like she is going through the motions.
