Editorial that ranked the top five worst moments in the 2012 dramas. #5 was a scene in "Can't Live Without You" where 'Seo Ga Young' was threatening a young child to open the door. #4 was in "Oohlala Couple" when 'Na Yeo Ok' had a forced abortion after returning to her body. #3 was the open ending in "Big". #2 was the shocking ending in "Fashion King". #1 was the embarrassing scene in "Big" when 'Gil Da Ran' claims "I love KKJ" at a restaurant in front of his parents.

5. [+54, -12] I was really surprised at the Hong sisters' ability to take Lee Min Jung and Gong Yoo and create such trash. The synopsis sounded fun in itself but the actual process of it playing out had no point whatsoever.

Big was really a total disappointment. Top stars couldn't save it from failure. It's a bit unfair to say that only Gong yoo's reputation suffered after this drama, but it's only logical to think so when he was the only one who did a great acting job (despite the absurd plot)

ReplyDeletetheir acting in this drama was really shameful. At least in my opinion. Lee Min Jung is someone who has been in in the bussiness for some time now and yet her acting was up to a squeaky rookie level.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. Big definitely gets my vote for most disappointing drama of the year. I seriously don't understand how the Hong Sisters managed to ruin something with so much potential. Gong Yoo was the only good thing about it tbh. I'm actually still pissed about Shin Won-ho's so-called role. He was so wasted in this drama.

As for 'Fashion King', I watched it through the end because of LJH. But that ending sure was one big WTF.
the Hong sisters are the best scriptwriters I have ever seen, but Big had the worst ending of any show they have ever created. Gong Yoo is very handsome, and a terrific actor, but not even he could do justice to that terrible ending.

I think the Korean version of Hanakimi is even worse, with Minho and Sulli, it's so bad that I can't even remember the name, I love dramas and never forget their titles but this one I can't even remember the name.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting an ending with unicorns and rainbows, but if they wanted to kill off his character, they could have at least delved into it. Instead, it just happened so out of the blue and sudden. It had me asking, "What was the purpose of this drama again?"

His character is the most inconsistent one in this drama, I guess the choco abs did the damage control. How did KKJ changed into a 5 yr old when his real personality is an 18 yr old! poor interpretation by him w/ poor characterization from the writers to the director.

ReplyDeleteI don't think they got that right. I didn't watched Ohlala Couple all the way through to the end. But from what I saw.. there was a scene where Na Yeo Ok (who at the time was actually her husband) was persuaded by his mom (Na Yeo Ok's mother in law) to her an abortion. & in the scene, they showed her laying in the room & all prepped to do it too. & then there was the scene where Na Yeo Ok returned to her body..but from what I understood, she had a miscarriage. So..it really wasn't an abortion. I mean there was an abortion scene but the whole "she got a forced abortion after she RETURNED TO HER BODY. Unless something like that happened at the end, I don't think the wording or wte is correct

I think it is because of Fashion King's similarities with What Happened in Bali. They have the same screenwriter, director, and producer, and honestly when I was watching FK, I was reminded of What Happened in Bali so many times. I guess it wasn't just me because What Happened in Bali is still such a famous drama in Korea. And people couldn't believe that the ending would be similar too.

man... with pain in my heart I have to agree.. my eyes were shining so bright with Big i was like Gong yoo!!, even when the body switch thing is so passé I decided to watch but then after like 6 eps. all my interest was gone... reaaally crappy drama... even I could develop the plot better... I was shocked because they had the popular and talented actors, they had a good plot, they had a mystery to solve... how could they make it go wrong?...

Omg. I tot something was wrong with me when I'm the only one in my circle who found BIG...well, weird and least inpriring. Thank goodness for this! I watched it for Gong Yoo. Suzy did show some improvement from her DH days. I've seen better acting from Lee Minjung. Things got lost in translation?

ReplyDeleteI actually like Big. I didn't know so many people out there didn't like it. I think it was better than Fashion King (the main females character was stagnant the whole drama. The main male character was bipolar (either really happy & positive or really angry & always getting into a fight & getting beaten. Despite being the main title, there were minimal things that I would call fashionable. The ending was a WTF. There were so many things that didn't make sense & just was there). I mean Big wasn't GREAT but, to me, it wasn't horrible. I think people took the storyline way too seriously w/the whole older teacher & younger student. I'm really disappointed that people didn't like it :(

ReplyDeletei don't understand hong sister's hype, esp among international fans. they always come up with interesting ideas, only to have so little and unrealistic conflicts coming up suddenly in the middle. look, now they can't manage to wrap their interesting idea in "big". had they think an actual plot and not just throwig some random events, this open ending could be something nice. i get that live writing must be stressing, but other writers can pull that out, why can't they? and pople blame suzy and lee min jung too much. sure they aren't acting prodigies, but what can they do with such poorly written characters?

ReplyDeleteKorean drama is plain retard. 20 ep each and u can predict the ending from the 1st ep. the hero is always look stone cold drop dead cool with his stupid make up and lipstick, like Edward from Twishit saga. the heroin is fragile like glass, stupid like cow, very emotional and childish. the only good things about her is funny and very persistence. Then come antagonist, the stupidest part of the drama. Powerful but dumb, weak, emotional and the worst; totally unreliable. they r like goat waiting to be COOLY shred to pieces by Ken doll. Other characters just as good as dead, no build-up or whatsoever on them. They live and die for the couple. i just watched Nice Guy and Secret Garden..couldnt finish them. just.. too STUPID. JDrama, HK drama, US series are WAY BETTER. Korean drama is for the girls who just hit puberty..

ReplyDeleteITA! KKJ was mature and as much as I love Gong Yoo I was surprised to see his interpretation of the character result in KKJ being a bit immature. The ending was a travesty and just really upset that we never got to see Shin as KKJ again when it was his KKJ that I found intriguing first. He had pretty good chemistry with Min Jung too.

i make my opinion base on the 'best K-drama' right now. NG and SG. surely, i cant make conclusion that all Kdrama are suck but their plot is pretty much the same. Plus, with the success of NG, i can assure you that the next K-dramas are as retard as it. i like the good old drama like Full House, My Girl where the characters are much mature and dynamic. idk why i even bother explaining this to you..you wont understand it anyway. well, someday u will.
