5. [+116, -34] She doesn't match the cute concept anymore, she should do something sexy now.

"Spotted on the streets" .... HA HA HA, you guys make it sound like she's turning tricks for blow like Tara Reid or something. Jesus, she made out with her boyfriend on the couch - get over it!
ReplyDelete"5. [+116, -34] She doesn't match the cute concept anymore, she should do something sexy now."
ReplyDeleteSorry~ just can't see IU doing something like SISTAR or even miss A. I'd probably cringe from the awkwardness.
Here's the problem with netizens, they think cute equates to virginity and overall innocent. IU never pretended to be innocent here, they just took her cute concept and defined it with this virgin status. She's talked about dating, she's talked about porn on TV. What about that makes her seem innocent? What, because she's possibly not a virgin she can't be cute? She has to become sexy, like popping her cherry is popping her ability to like cute things and be cute. The fuck out of here. Korea is built off of this stigma that cute = innocent and weak. Int'l fans buy into that shit as well when they bash SNSD and other girl groups for being cute saying they're weak girls when your style has nothing to do with your strength.
ReplyDeleteI sense so many prudes, it's not even funny.
lol she did
DeleteVery true and if they were IU fans then they'd know that in this year alone she's done very sexy things and yet they act like they never noticed.
ReplyDeleteShe was not just randomly spotted on the streets she was shooting a commercial that's why she's wearing that. I hope the article specified that. It just freaking annoys me when "news" media don't bother to report all the facts and try to get a skewed perspective from the readers to accumulate more response
ReplyDeleteTHIS!! Korea journalism is dead.. The articles are so biased and badly written that it's so obvious what replies the writer is looking for
DeleteIt's Cold...
ReplyDeleteThen how do you define innocence? B/c you're right, innocence doesn't equate to virgin status, but it does signify that the person has no knowledge of the subject at hand. Would you still consider a person innocent if on one side, she professes that she knows nothing (much) about dating and that even her watching porn would catch the headlines, and then the other side uploads a picture of her in her pajamas with a topless man?
ReplyDeleteCute doesn't mean innocent and/or weak, it's an adjective that describes a state of something and doesn't put a moral compass on anybody. Nor does innocence and/or weakness...
What is morally questionable is the deception of one's image ... pretending to not know about sex and then going off and having is a deception. There is nothing 'prude'-ish about this.
THIS!!
DeleteJust to play devil's advocate, IU did come off as the "innocent/naive" type a lot of the times until in recent weeks. But I totally agree about cute not always meaning chaste.
ReplyDeleteBut you're missing the point entirely because IU was never innocent. She was cute, and no I don't define cute and innocent. IU went on TV saying she watched porn, I don't think that classifies her as an innocent girl, does it? You're just like the netizens throwing this innocent image on her when she herself never claimed to be that way. They assumed from her appearance she was in fact, an innocent girl. And another problem is, is people even jumping to the conclusion that she did have sex with him. There are other ways of pleasure, not just penetration. She could have preformed oral, for all we know. She was still clothed. What's morally questionable is discussing a girls virginity based off a picture of her and a boy topless together. Believe it or not, many men don't wear shirts when they are at home relaxing. He could have taken it off and not done anything, nobody knows yet everyone is saying she's had sex.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is prude central. Korea is not this no sex haven, they're having it in high shool, in college, before marriage, but IU doing uploading a picture of her and a topless boy is so dramatic because just like you, they took her cute image and her appearance and made it out that she was this innocent girl.
Please, the way she talked about Taeyang should tell you that she's not this Oh so shy I know nothing about boys type of girl.
that media's media play
ReplyDelete3. [+755, -253] She's not even answering any of our questions
ReplyDeleteShe has nothing to say. What's done is done. Everyone messes up, she ain't perfect. What you see is what you get. I wonder how old these netizens are.
"3. [+755, -253] She's not even answering any of our questions"
ReplyDeletewhat kind of answers that will please you???
after all, whatever she'll say later if not satisfied you, you will still say "She's not even answering any of our questions" again right?
oh and if she's cute, she's cute. even now, she's still the cute Lee Jieun like before even when she didnt even try to be one. cute =/= innocence.
used to see this one post at IU's starzone community, "the people that post these hurtful remarks probably from these 2 kinds of people:
1. a truly antis from the beginning
2. butthurt fans that cant accept that they didnt own their artist life"
Lol @ netizen comments. Hahaha
ReplyDeletesome poeple don't like the fact that IU was dating and 25 y.o. man when she was 16 and probably she wasn't a virgin.
ReplyDeletemaybe her new boyfriend will visit her ;D
ReplyDeletedifferent cultures and ideals....
ReplyDeleteagreed, IU is a easy girl
ReplyDeleteif IU was 16 eunhyuk would be 23. :) just correcting you
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that she was 26 when she started dating him?
ReplyDeletewhere is eunhyuk ??
ReplyDeleteshe's going to need him to visit her soon...
i am surprised she still has CF deals...
ReplyDeletedid any netizen throw eggs @ her?
She herself has spoken many many times about how particularly naive she is... that she lacks understanding and comprehension in many 'adult' things... that the MC's and herself would bawl out laughing if she does something 'sexy' (see the latest show she was on w/ Suzy& GaIn and you can tell that she isn't even taking herself seriously when she did that dance). Seriously.
ReplyDeleteBut this isn't what I'm concerned about. It's that I'm strictly talking about the image that she portrays to the entire Korean public. Even her 'fans hoped she keep her pure & charming" image... (http://www.allkpop.com/2012/06/iu-voted-as-the-1-star-fans-hope-will-maintain-an-innocent-image).
And no, this isn't an issue of virginity or not - heck, I wouldn't be surprised if less than 50% of female idols are no longer virgins. Once again, it's the image and the backwardness that comes along when an image is deceptively crafted ...
As for Korea is not prude central. People (especially teenagers) have sex, regardless of culture, religion, or ethnicity. But it's the CULTURE that creates and enables what is 'culturally' acceptable. I'm pretty sure that MANY teenagers in some of the most conservative regions in the world are having sex, but I wouldn't call them 'prude central'. It's the culture's way of dealing with it.
it's enough already, just leave her alone gosh!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I agree with some of your points, IU did play up the naive/innocent image that people associated with her. And I think that's why netizens are "offended." If you've looked at the articles posted here, most of the comments from k-netizens aren't berating her for dating someone secretly or for having sex at her age, but of being "fooled" by her image. And yeah, they are taking things a little personally, but it's a big thing that she didn't solely keep the ~Innocence~ as her stage persona, she included it in how she acted on other programs that allowed her to show more of her personality.
ReplyDeleteTo make an odd comparison, it would be like an American artist supporting Vegetarianism and promoting it, only to be caught eating a steak at a restaurant. It's not /wrong/ for them to eat it and enjoy it, but it comes off as hypocritical and that their whole persona was phoney just to make more $$$$
look at the crowd watching her. most people don't care or have gotten over it.
ReplyDeleteaw damn, i would have liked to see some egg throwing
ReplyDeleteSlut, go and ride your ugly oppa's cock...
ReplyDeletesheessh..... these people really should be fanfic writers.
ReplyDeleteHer company did, not her. Netizens just bought it. IMO if we're going to blame her for selling a false image of herself, her company deserves just as much, if not more blame.
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between keeping an image and being just like the image. Well, whatever.
ReplyDeleteBased on all this talk about sexuality in Korea, I did a quick look up and I was actually surprised. Over at nih.gov, there is an archived article from Korea about adolescent sexuality which was published in 2011. According to that article, a survey done in 2005 among high school students indicated that 16% of the survey participants were sexually active.
Here's another interesting statement ""...a study that was carried out in Korea in 2000 revealed that 47.5% of female students aged 15 to 16 years were sexually active" Just like @Boom indicated, this does not mean penetration.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3250591
Along with that was a statistics like "96.7% teenagers use the internet daily; 37.3% have watched pornography"
It looks like these netizens should not be throwing stones at IU especially since that would be hypocritical of them.
there's a difference between trying sexy things and being an easy girl. you sure troll a lot.
ReplyDeletewhy is all your comments so vitriolic? ah well, you can be a sour puss troll.
ReplyDeletemost celebrities sell an image. should we condemn everyone who does that?
ReplyDeletewoah... are we spreading false rumors like it's a fact now? well, u can always write a good fanfic off it but that doesn't make it a fact
ReplyDeletelook at her outfit, IU looks like a 5 years old, so innocent and cute.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I said, no. Especially in KPOP where the artist is rarely in charge of their image, it's all the ent. agency in charge of them.
ReplyDeletenation's slut! so oppa should be plural
ReplyDeleteshe's gonna ride mine soon :D
I don't think IU is an innocent girl.
ReplyDeleteheh. i don't buy this netizens were "fooled". they keep up with all the shitty gossips and watch the headlines of news avidly. so, iu & her company has been trying to break out of the mold since 2011 and they have known that she is not the "perfect", "innocent" that they claim she portrayed. they followed her through articles and interviews but now try to claim "i was fooled"? BULL SHIT.
ReplyDeleteas a matter of fact, it's these same netizens who took a photo with not enough details and made a scandal out of it. it's these same shitty media reporting and pressed as hell netizens/antis who made false claims like they were on a bed naked and allegations like after sex photo. they seem to enjoy tearing people down and spreading false rumors and start throwing it around like it's a fact.
instead of news and journalism, why not just call it what it is? gossip rag.
meh. you need a translator and a dictionary or something 'cause what she claimed in a lot of shows is that she is easily fooled/duped or put it a nice way - she's naive. you sound like you are trying to convince yourself and others on why you now feel you can look down upon her and hate her. if you hate her, hate her but don't make up lame excuses like this
ReplyDeletenope. since 2011, she has been trying to break out of the mold.
ReplyDeletewhy should be answer questions? netizens, antis or whatever hell they are along with the media will only want to hear their version of the "truth" and if it doesn't jive with what they want to hear she'll be called a liar anyways.
ReplyDelete[+122, -38] Anchovy's wife..
ReplyDeleteLMAO! what was that suppose to mean anyway? Eunhyuk is anchovy like? or word play of his name? ROFL!
5. [+116, -34] She doesn't match the cute concept anymore, she should do something sexy now
WORD!! ^^
I'll take your word for it.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right, wished we had more smart people like you here, This place is full of overprotective delusional morons.
ReplyDeletementions of wanting to go drinking, clubbing, & getting a boyfriend - 2011
ReplyDeletementions of crushes and what not (before 2011)
mention of porn (2012)
you can search for it yourself
I knew about the porn talk but the stuff she said last year is news to me...or maybe I've heard it before but just dismissed it because it wasn't a big deal to me.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you! this place is full of easily butthurt fans who will come at you with a pitchfork if you even say something slightly bad about their idols... pathetic.
ReplyDeleteWhen did I ever 'look down upon her'? When did I ever project my own self onto her? When did I say I 'hate' her? You're ridiculous and you have no other way to defend or rationalize what netizens are truly thinking.
ReplyDeleteNo one is out to 'hate' people on purpose, don't hate on K-netizens and others just because we actually constructively criticize what we saw. It's ironic that my words spew much less hate than what you've said about me.
