Ok, netizens (and it seems like this place) don't know what they're talking about. In Buddhist tradition, it's normal to change names after something life-changing happens. His dad died earlier this year, hence the name change, not because of JYJ Junsu (that makes no sense, he's been around for four years, so why only change his name now?). His real name is now Minjun. Jun. K is just his stagename, has been for quite a bit now for his solo work.

This isn't really that bad compared to what they usually get. If you think 2PM is irrelevant, you're seriously kidding yourself. They haven't been in Korea for more than a year, but they're still in demand.
ReplyDeleteHow do you qualify relevance? Relevance doesn't always mean having a huge fanbase. Super Junior has a huge fanbase, but they're not relevant to the public. The only group right now who has both relevance and a fanbase is SNSD.
ReplyDeleteRelevance isn't just counted by how much a group sells (and iirc Hands Up sold more than their last I'll Be Back, and even better lasted longer on the digital charts), it's also their CFs AND the level of CFs. 2PM right now are endorsers for Lotte, Korea Tourism, and Coca-Cola, all of which are big deals. They also have smaller brands like Coway, Nepa, Caribbean Bay, etc. If their situation was really dire, netizens would be calling those brands and telling them to drop 2PM like they did with T-Ara, but they didn't, 2PM lost none of their endorsements. Beast might have more members in their fan cafe but until they get the level of endorsements that 2PM have, they're not more relevant than 2PM.
They're only lying low right now because they haven't had a comeback. Just because they haven't had a comeback doesn't mean they're over, the relevant groups can afford to go away for a bit and not have to do a million mini-albums like the newer groups. When they come back, they'll be on shows and probably have newer CFs. Meanwhile, they're doing really well in Japan (better than expected), they have a tour coming up. Their worst year was 2010 and they survived it, whatever happened this year wasn't as bad as that. They'll be fine, no matter how hard people wish otherwise.
If netizens ever say something good, come and page me. If they are irrelevant, they won't even be interested to even read, much less comment on the article. Wow, so much interest going into an irrelevant band ^^

I can very much say that only TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki are the very famous one(still can't compared to arashi because most of the fans prefer JYJ); then Kara. The rest like snsd(I'm sorry to ruin sone's dream but they ain't big in Japan) and big bang(my friends also say they hate those kpop singers who can barely speak japanese came up on tv) and ukiss(you will be surprise, they are quite know[not famous, but known]) and 2pm(better than bigbang actually)

His dad just passed away this year and his family is the one who is encouraging him to do the change, must be something related to that. When 2PM is always outside Korea, you can't expect them to be on top . Other groups like Infinite who are promoting in Korea more often than they do overseas activities have a chance to shine when big groups are busy working in other countries.

ReplyDeleteThey have Coca cola, Nepa, and Mr. Pizza to name a few which are popular in korea. They've had a total of 22 cfs this year which isn't bad. Sure, in sales they don't have monster sales like tvxq, big bang, super junior, but they did rank # 7 on the top 20 current idols who are top sellers. The numbers fluctuate with their fancafe because it's close most of the year and they haven't been active musically. Even with that, sales for the first leg of their Global tour have been quite decent.

ReplyDeletenot that they care if they lost some butthurt hottest, don't you think? you can see it as a shade on 2pm or simply 2 people asking a legitimate question. you say they have singles in japan, had a tour, etc but they're not really making headlines to at least grab attention. even you can admit, fosho, that their upcoming comeback is, how shall i say this, underhyped? or their global tour turned into asia tour using recycled photos for posters and tarps? other than hottests, not many people hear about them.. the most attention they got was khun's scandal.

ReplyDeleteWhat upcoming comeback? JYP hasn't announced one yet. They haven't done anything in Korea worth reporting on, that's why they're not making headlines. Even if they did, you'd all be calling media play. When they do have a comeback, they'll get their fair share of articles. If you mean their Japan comeback, they literally just started doing promos for the single.

ReplyDelete..they haven't announced a comeback yet and the live tour is divided into many parts. They haven't revealed all dates for asian countries except Japan yet (only 4). They have whole 2013 for that.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason why they had to start touring before making a comeback was Khun's controversy. They had to postpone the comeback, but they couldn't postpone first concerts, because they were already planned.
