Aside from your weekly music shows, we all know that idols sometimes perform at colleges/festivals/other minor events to make extra cash. 'Entertainment Relay' revealed that top idols can make up from $40,000 to $60,000 USD per event. Other idols normally receive up to $20,000 USD.

1. [+250, -11] It'd be better for colleges to just invite a few talented students up to the stage for festivals and use all that money they're spending on idols to lesson the financial burden of tuition instead...

2. [+207, -10] Does anyone think that's a justifiable pay that idols deserve? Entertainment companies are calling all of the shots and these event organizers are catering to all of them... The world is seriously getting crazier by the day.

3. [+201, -35] I heard IU earned about $40,000... I wonder how much she can get now.

4. [+47, -3] This is why everyone and their mothers are trying to be idols

5. [+43, -1] I still can't forget the time f(x) and SHINee came to our district for a festival and we all waited for a long time thinking they'd sing at least one song but they just greeted us and left ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Everyone swore ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

6. [+43, -3] Are idol songs even deserving of being paid $60,000 to listen to...

7. [+36, -0] Maybe this is why SNSD split into Taetiseo.... (TN: article mentioned that the money is divided between the members fairly)

8. [+32, -1] <2012 College Event Pay> SNSD ($50~60k), Big Bang ($45~50k), IU ($40~45k), SISTAR ($38~40k), KARA ($33~35k), T-ara ($30~35k), miss A ($25~30k), 4minute ($25k)

9. [+29, -5] Especially SM's songs aren't deserving of being paid $60,000

10. [+26, -1] Wow, so they only sing one or two songs and make $60,000 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

  2. To give readers some idea.
if snsd gets $60k per event, depending on their indivisual contract to sm, 20~50% of each members share goes to the company. so if snsd has 6 members participating the event, each member equally gets $10k but depending on their indivisual contract, youna might gets $8k and transfers $2k to sm and hyoyeon might only get $5k and the rest $5k goes to the company.
its been a couple of years since ive graduated but those figures look old. i dont think snsd or bigbang say yes to the college festival organizers if they only gets $60k per event. i was a warden of my dorm and our dorm organized a festival in 2009. We contacted after school, choi jaehoon and other not known comedians for the festival. and even after school, then rookies, asked $ 20k for two songs of the event. usually +alpha is required to host a class idols and comedians.

  5. The figures are a lot more than what i imagined them getting. I always thought theyre getting paid a few hundreds, thousands at most for the bigger groups.

  6. It's definitely a lot more than I thought they earned.

I wonder how much SHINee earns for each of these events.

  7. Yes, the company gets most of it. It's not so unfair, if you look into it with true perspective... however this comment:

Makes me sad. How unfair for someone who pays to get such a mediocre show!

I mean, if they're making money out of it, at least do your best, make your artistes do their best!... and what i've seen in fancams in most of these shows, performers tend to lipsync and everything.
    tsk tsk tsk.

  8. Funny how some of the comments are so negative, but when every time i show up to thse college festivals it draws a HUGE turnout with loads of cheering. So far i've been traveling around to different universities and they were quite enjoyable. I find it funny that After school still asks for low rookie ish pay, but in the end they get contacted for a lot more shows because schools can afford actually afford to pay them.

It doesn't work like that. This doesn't affect tuition fees.
There will be more interest in the festival if idols are featured. The fees for the idols are more than covered by the companies that sponsor the festival anyway.

  10. It can be anything. as you can see the general public sees negatively idols getting much money for a couple og songs less than 10 minutes on stage. So the company tend to media play on those money and tend to report less than what they really get. idols specifically ask ti the organjzers that i am ok to only get $60k but you should akso give a tour package to wach one of our parenrts. or you should buy us a car. or if the cillege is a business power houses like mine, yonsei univ. idols specifically ask to the organizing comitee that sits various business chairman that if the specific conpany plans to broadxast a new cf next winter, should use us to endolse. and many more cases. for A class idols, its a bit of risk of image draining to appear college fesrivals so i am pretty sure Snsd(100%) tvxq, suoer junior, bigbang(maybe) ask +alpha fir the event

  14. Is there even one thing k-netizens do not critisize/hate on? Except for Won Bin??
It's really annoying how they treat idols...

  15. That's actually discount price. I don't think BB has done any college shows since like 2009 but I know this year when they did a show in Vietnam, they charged 500K for 30 minutes (about 80k/song).

  16. well how do you treat justin bieber, one direction and rebecca black or others disney singers?

  17. And yet idols don't earn money? Your oppar and unnier earn more money than you will ever do in your lifetime. Forget about the "sob stories" they have. Idols are rolling in their cash. I don't see how sad and tragic and horrible life they have.

  18. that's a lotttt of money, wow. 2 person's one year of salary. the schools could invest in making the school and programs better rather than hire celebs.

  19. people will like what they like. no sense in saying they should put the money to something else.

  20. the people talking shit in comment sections are a minority, really. so many boards just turn into a pointless snarkfest because it's easy to get votes/points/karma.

  21. There's much to say how geography effects the music industry. S.Korea has an advantage due to its small size it can cater top artists everywhere, including colleges and regular music shows, signings, college fests and other things. The music scene in USA, due to its size this is not possible. In one year it was easy to attend on avg. 2 shows a week nearly all free. This is the advantage K-pop has over other countries.

  26. Is it idols or the management company that asks? I have doubts that idols directly voice out what they want or do they?

  27. Lol $40k-60k is just a normal number. That's standard price for popular artist in my country too here in some SE Asia. WOW I'd like to invite f(x) on my collage festival if the price are like that!!!!!!!!! Actually we can invite them for every month. Need 10 students to be donors, just gage our car certificate. Since we will get the money back because of ticket sales

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think I've seen any Big Bang or SNSD in college festival since... 2008? or 2009? I also don't think they'll get (only) that much, since they're on top right now (netizens may disagree with this, but we're not blind. They're at their peak of their careers right now).
About the +alph, I also think it happened in many countries. Well, in my country, there are some cases like that, but not often. With the craziness of S.Korea entertainment industry, I'm 100% sure it is possible.
