On the contrary, there were a lot of comments also along the lines of those translated below. I know this was also a concern among i-fans judging from the comments I read here last time. YG fans are definitely happy about there being a lot of YG featurings in Epik High's work, whereas there are just as much people against it. There's a clear divide from what I see.

I agree with the second part of your post. Epik High always had featurings with relatively unknown artist (and also really talented people, and as much as I love Bom, her voice sucks nowadays). The most famous person they collaborated with was probably Younha. This really doesn't sound like them.

ReplyDeletefunny how people are complaining about the featurings and YG yet when for example when Tablo released his album or when they released 'It's cold' they fans say 'ahh EH as expected' or 'i was surprised by the ft, the person sound great' or 'they sound the same, they didn't lose their colors' etc, etc.

I kinda get the frustration over YG artists' influx in their album but I really don't think YG is putting pressure on Epik High. To be honest, "It's cold" really does sound like any Epik High song (Umbrella, One, ...), they're simply mad it's featuring a YG artists... sigh...

Also the part where he wrote the song to fit Taeyang's vocals (rather uncessfully imo). Pretty sure it was /Taeyang/ that was told to feature in Tablo's work not the other way around...
Delete^^^Way to miss the point. It's Cold does sound like Epik High, but if Epik High weren't in YG they would have never chosen someone as unexperienced as Lee Hayi. They have worked with established singers, veterans who would never need any instructions with recordings. People like Lee Hayi and Park Bom make no sense with Epik High.

epik high hasn't changed musically, if they did it's because of their own tastes and trends, not cause YG forced them. some of yall are so elite and childish. taeyang featured in ONE of ten of tablo's songs. the other NINE songs features other artists that aren't from YG. you guys are so blind. tablo NEEDED the backing of YG (or any other big company in fact) after the shit scandal those losers made him go through.

While Epik High DOES work with lots of veteran singers, they ALSO work with lots of indie bands and newer, up and coming groups that have not yet made a name for themselves. Lee Hi may not have worked with them necessarily, but some other rookie female singer? Maybe.
A lot of these netizens are just so stuck up in the semantics. "o-m-g epik high in yg?? must mean they go mainstream" "omg yg artists gonna feature bye bye old epik high"
i think we can expect great music from epik high as always, as seen from the quality of "it's cold." i really dont think the album is only going to be saturated with yg-only artists, but even if it were: who cares as long as the voices fit in? People talk about the "old Epik High," but artists change over time. They're tastest may grow different, and so it's unreasonable to expect the same sound every time, and get mad and blame something like the entertainment company if it's different. Tablo himself said he loves working in YG, and I don't think he would not say that on his own accord. If their new sound is different from before, so be it, we will see who likes it and who doesn't. Stop hating and just enjoy the music.
I honesty don't care anymore, if the song is to my liking then I'll buy it, if it's not then I'm not. but I somehow hoped they would have a ft. w/ Younha again for some reason. I'm going to wait until then
ReplyDeleteAs an old fan of Epik High, i'm not a fan of Tabloo going to YG, i understand why he did it tho but his music & MV style has since changed and if anyone was actually following EH's older works you would know why most of their older fans say they've changed.......There's a difference in development and growth musically and the change that they've had....

Like someone said before, Tablo (and so Epik high) needed a new company to back them up after the scandal, and on latest news, only YG enter in the picture to take them. People are complaining about how EH lost its color, and other BS, when there could have been No more Epik high AT ALL.

ReplyDeleteWhy are people assuming other artists won't be in their album? We all know YG artist usually get to choose who they want to feature. For example GD who had, Kim Gun Mo, Yuna, Jonghwan and etc etc. Tablo also had Jinsil, Sora, Bumkey and others featured in his Fever's End album.

Tablo's album sounded just like Epilogue and It's Cold sounded just like Umbrella and their older songs. The only thing that changed was their styling/MVs and tbh... was EH EVER in charge of their styling/MV? Probably not (except when they were under their own label maybe).
I just find all these YGE featurings interesting TBH. I'm 100% Tablo has a choice on who to feature on his albums because unlike y'all I KNOW Tablo is a smartass and there's no way he signed a contract that would fuck him over (again). Bom's probably out of convenience bc Bom IS just right there, so it's easier and it's less work than to figure out how to divide profits between 2 companies etc. But Lee Ha Yi is more interesting bc it was OBVIOUSLY a way to promote her name and Su;Pearls. To me, this says that Tablo is planning on staying long-term with YGE and implicating himself more since he is also considering and working for the company's future interest. Interesting!

Jumping in on this a bit late, but I'm a long time EH fan who was also a bit iffy about their company choice. I admit it's a bit elitist, but I just think it's a dangerous move for them considering their fanbase. I also don't see Epik High enjoying having a vapid mainstream audience either. Obviously the exposure isn't ONLY going to bring in bandwagon fans, but I'm already seeing an influx of mindless YG stans who just want more bragging rights over how "talented" YG is compared to other Korean companies. This kind of empty hype/bandwagoning is something I know they don't like, so I just find this whole situation... unfortunate. That said, YG obviously has a lot of resources, and they need to make money, so I'm not gonna be a shitty fan about it. I LOVE "It's Cold", and imo Lee Ha Yi actually fits EH's style really well. Taeyang's feature in Tomorrow, on the other hand, just didn't work for me, and I feel the same way about Bom. I'm not trying to knock on "mainstream" artists here; I do enjoy 2NE1 and BB as separate entities, but it's hard for me to believe that EH would have chosen these rather odd features given all their collaborations with people who are clearly vocally superior.

Or, he could tweet about anything but YG, but he choose to say things about YG and they all have all been positive! So stop hatin' and just enjoy the music.

ReplyDeleteThese are basically my feelings, and I thought that would be the deal when Tablo first came. Now YG just seems overexcited to have formerly underground artists on their label. It's all about credibility and validation for them lately.

BUT every other featuring had someone outside YG. Tablo had tons of indie and less known artists on his solo, Psy had tons of outsider featurings and even GD had the guy from Nell and Kim Yuna.
Bom and Lee Ha Yi does not spell out a YG invasion of Epik High's music. I think its just a bunch of hipsters who hate on YG because they can't call Epik High off the mainstream anymore.
