Article: CNBLUE completes a successful and passionate London concert

1. [+129, -65] Guckkasten's Ha Hyun Woo once said that he saw CNBLUE and said, "What would they know, they're just entertainers" ã…‹ã…‹

2. [+137, -77] First of all, CNBLUE is not a band. CNBLUE is an idol under the concept of a band.

3. [+98, -67] I remember CNBLUE's CEO said in an interview that he'd be able to make a lot of money out of the pockets of fangirls if he put together a couple of handsome kids and taught them a few instruments. He said CNBLUE was a band he made with such a tactic...  (TN: There are a lot of replies to this reply demanding evidence, proof, etc)

This one's for humor.

  3. Not a fan but... were they not an independent band in Japan before they debuted in Korea? O.o or did I misunderstand something...

  4. ^ Of course they are, they composed and write their own songs...they are consider a Band in Japan,a country where band is better stablish than in Korea. They had their Indie beginnings in Korea, people who consider them just idol band know nothing about them....
To start Yonghwa, Jonghyun and Minhyuk met before they signed with FNC, they met the day the audition and became friends even before knowing they were accepted. While in the company they decided to practice together while others trainees prefer to practice alone...the reason why FNC decided to debute them before other trainees was because they already had an stablish teamwork since day one.

I take all this hate comments for k-indie fans who are butthurt because their indie groups will never get the same recognition in other countries.

  5. ^correction: they had their indie beginning in Japan before debuting.

  6. i don't understand those netizens understanding for the word 'band' tbh. idol or not. if a bunch of people are playing instruments or doing things together together, it's called a band. be it a rock band or a marching band or even a dance band.
Jonghyun once said "So what if we are called an idol band? We're going to be together for 20,30 years ahead.. It doesn't matter what we are called." yeah. basically he don't give a flying fuck about the whole idol thing

  7. To those who think they aren't a band, may I know what your definition of a band is?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think they are a "band" because they play instruments together but it isn't an authentic "band" as they were micromanaged the way idol groups are. Members were taught instruments picked for good looks/talent and thrown together in a band.
In the states real bands are people who have been playing instruments together for years and finally get picked up by a recording agency.
I understand the Knetizens because I have never felt that cnblue were a TRUE band but more like an idol band.

  9. CNBLUE members have learned to live with the prejudice of this people who judge them so lightly so as a Boice i wont care for their comments because this comments only make them want to becameo better as the BAND that they are and they wish to be for many years.

  10. tsk, these "indie" arguments....... tsk tsk tsk. do you know that most of those jrock "indie" bands are basically johnny entertainment in disguise with different ceo? it's a common knowledge if you've been in jrock vk world. i can't link you the article because i forgot which blog it is, i don't even know if it's still exist. i definitely had read one written by jrock fans himself, which contain much more touchy issues. there's another interview with industrial insiders, but it's already removed. you can still read the comments though. here: http://www.hellodamage.com/top/2010/03/01/interview-with-an-ex-visual-kei-record-executive

let's just say, i don't think it's different with cnblue. maybe some of them are good singers, and now one or two of them learn to write music, but i doubt they made into jrock "indie"... as "indie" as you thought.

after all, it's entertainment BUSINESS..... it's an art of BUSINESS.

  11. additional suplement: BECK, hahaha. it doesn't cover all and it's the usual japan manga style full with sincerity and hyperbolic and such, but it definitely says something about those so called "indie" jrock bands. basically they're talented (but still attractive as a core) guys mushed in a group, with full song-writer and PR team as the backup. not that different with idols, right? except that ones can dance, the other ones can play instruments.

  12. They're band and Idol....why question only now? K-netizen really hate somebody in their happy day

  13. Well they are idol band....
They are lucky, a lot of K-indie bands rarely have chance to promote their songs at music shows even though their songs chart well than most of the idol group.....

  14. SMH a band is a band
They compose their own songs and play their own instruments live don't they? The only REAL difference between them and indie bands is that they are managed better and make more money.

    1. compose their own songs... not all of the songs.
play their instrument live........... are you kidding me????! i don't doubt their skill though. well of course, it's the music shows' inability to provide good sound system for band, right? riiiight.

the biggest difference: they're good looking.

  15. except they don't play the instruments

  16. SMH. A band is a group of people collaborating on music. So it means, CNBLUE is a real band.

  19. If you look at the amount of negative votes for the top 3 comments, you'll see that this certainly is not an opinion that is shared by everybody.

  20. When bands like CNBLUE and FT Island play on the weekly music shows (Music Bank, Inkigayo, etc.), their instruments aren't actually plugged in and they hand sync. This is one of the reasons why they are more associated as "idols" rather than a "real band"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Netizens just love to destroy people's careers without evidence, it's their very favourite thing (see T-ara, etc) so I'm surprised they haven't cobbled together some "CNBlue are fake" compilation by now, using out of context photos of them with their instruments unlplugged on stage while they were changing guitars. Come netizens, try harder.

    ReplyDelete
  22. just because you can play a guitar it doesn't mean u r a rocker, really.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ^^
It is an absolute fact that their instruments are not plugged in when they are performing on TV music shows. If you don't believe this, youtube their performances and see for yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol everything about CN Blue is idol-like except for the fact that they play instruments. Yonghwa did some acting gigs, appeared on WGM and CN Blue as a whole have been on variety shows.

I actually consider them an IDOL band.. like FT Island.

  25. It's ironic that while non Boice fans who went to the concert had only praises for their live performance and showmanship saying they were truly a rock band but their fellow citizen only bash them...what CNBLUE did in London was promote korea, why would they bash them like that? i can't process.
PS. to the person who comment regarding their looks...i wasn't aware of the fact that you need to not be good looking to be able to be in a rock band. On another note, their songs are 90% self composed and they don't performe live because music shows don't allow it...they have performe live in real Music TV shows like Soundplex, YHY, Chocolate and real japanese music programs.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ^
It's possible that people bash them because they simply don't like their music. Just because they're Korean doesn't mean that all Koreans will necessarily like them. The same goes for bands from any country. I can't name one band that's universally liked in their home country.

    ReplyDelete
  27. ^^ did i complain about them being good looking? no. but that's basically the virtue of idols. they're talented and have strong presence on stage, yes, like every other idols, but that's not the basic requirement in idoldom -- you can train for that. to be an idol, you must be attractive too, preferably young. let's say they don't have both, i don't think they'll debut under fnc or cnblue. and just because yonghwa (and sometimes jonghyun) composing, doesn't necessarily all of them are talented song writers and "true" artists. all of their title tracks are handed by professional producers though.

i don't know why cn blue/ft island fans want their group to be viewed differently than the rest of kpop idols when their company and the members themselves embrace their status as idols. not less, not more. yes they're talented idols who can hold strong performance, no one is going to argue about that. but they're definitely different from the rest of k-rock scene. same like bigbang will be forever different from the rest of korea hiphop scene. nothing wrong with that. but they're different, get over it. this is what annoys people the most: the FANS.

  28. just like ft island, they a bunch of pretty boys fake playing their instruments and pretending to be a band lololol

  29. "their instruments are not plugged in when they are performing on TV music shows"
"bunch of pretty boys fake playing their instruments and pretending to be a band" these statements are obviously come from people who only watches music shows.
forever in denial about FTI & CNB can actually play instruments live. coz everywhere on youtube, there's live performance video from YHY Sketchbook, You & I, Chocolate, Concert DVD
HOWEVER these people prefer to watch music bank, inkigayo, mcountdown etc. SMH.
even my big bro who plays music and listens to metal songs appreciates CNBLUE & FTISLAND as a band. in the end of the day, it's all about who produces good music. it doesn't matter if they're idol or not.

    ReplyDelete
  30. "All their members have acting gigs now..."

Well that further adds to my point that they're more like idols and less like a real band.

I like CN Blue's music.. but c'mon they're not a real band. They're somewhere in between idols and an actual indie band.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ^^
CNBLUE (and their agency) *choose* to perform on the TV music shows. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's probably the best way to gain popularity among music fans in Korea.

However, choosing that route comes with a price, which is when people question their credibility as a legit rock band. I am actually a CNBLUE fan and I own many of their albums, but I can see how indie rock fans would question a band who hand syncs during televised performances and shares a stage with pop groups. Things like this may contribute to the *perception* that CNBLUE is not a real band.

Personally, I do consider CNBLUE a real band, but I'm not going to question or be bothered by someone who thinks otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  32. CNBlue is a music band by any definition. They can sing, compose and perform as an ensemble using different musical instruments. They have to their credit songs that have made it to top of the charts in various countries. They have played live for hours on stage in various countries.
Does acting and being good looking stop them from being a music band?
If their instruments are not plugged at an event by no means indicate that they do not know how to. It could be just simply be limitations of that particular venue or program.
Really cannot understand WHY the question even arises? I could understand if people discussed their music or songs but this is just pure sensationalism nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  33. still the question of idol band.... its already been 2-3 years since their debut, still cant get over with????? probably because they are good looking thats why they are questioning them about being a real band. how frustrating that they are koreans but not appreciated in korea.

i would like to give an example. if you are familiar with larc-en-ciel a very very famous japanese band. with some of the members are good looking too especially the lead vocal hyde. hyde have already 2 movies and the members appear in variety shows too. are you questioning them also as idol band too???? because both larc and cnblue has been in guesting in variety shows, dramas or movies????

    ReplyDelete
  34. yeah you're pretty much right ...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just because they do sth else plus music, they're not a real band? You guys expect a band to be always playing their instruments and not do sth else? Well, I personally fell that they are idols, and CN Blue is an authentic band. They are idols because they attend variety shows and act,, and they do awesome live performances, well if you guys do watch and listen to them. Only fans would know them. Ppl outside fandam wouldnt know, just like hpw some ppl think that suju's songs arent good and dojt deserve the best album of the year when their songs are good. Seriously, if I were a celebrity I would have commited suicide. CN Blue are hardworkers as all of us know, and if we still say that they are not an authentic band, then they might as well get out. If you guys do follow them, Japan sees them as a true quality band.
