A review of a famous restaurant in Daegu was shared on an internet community board: "I respectfully greeted the restaurant's grandma as I went in but she noticed that we were a party of two women and she said that she doesn't accept female customers. I don't know if it's because of superstition or because women don't order drinks but... she wouldn't give a reason even when we asked. We were basically kicked out of our seats. I was quite surprised because this is the first time I've ever been treated like this."
Another netizen chimed in, "I asked her why they don't accept female customers and she said, 'The table turnover rate for women is slower, and we get a lot of customers who come in groups of men so it gets rowdy and noisy when they start trying to hit on them and stuff so we just don't accept them.'"
1. [+3,509, -571] The restaurant owner can do whatever they want, no?
2. [+1,492, -215] Women will order food and then take three hours just chatting away so I bet that's why the owner made that rule ㅋㅋㅋ
3. [+1,153, -132] The owner of the restaurant is a grandma (woman) herself so imagine how bad it must get for her to reject female customers? As noisy as things get, she'd accept them if they helped her business.
4. [+1,096, -167] I think that rowdy stuff is just an excuse. The real reason is probably that women take up two hours at a table and some of them even post on SNS or blogs, which comes with its own risks. Honestly, women are quite sensitive and picky. Men will mostly eat and get up 30 in minutes and leave right away. They're also too lazy to post anything about it on SNS ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
5. [+413, -28] I guess the trap here is that the owner is a grandma herself?
6. [+355, -31] It's all up to the business owner what they want to do... whether it's rejecting women or children, or even nightclubs who don't let old people in. It's not like these businesses are public facilities, they shouldn't be forced to uphold something that they don't want to.
7. [+275, -16] It's a private business, who cares who they choose to accept or reject?? How is this any different from nightclubs rejecting old people? If the restaurant fails because they chose not to accept women, then it's their restaurant that's failing, not any of ours. This isn't gender discrimination... it's totally up to the owner. What about all the nightclubs that reject people based on gender or age? Is that discrimination too???
8. [+179, -18] She's old enough to have experience in knowing that this rule will get her restaurant hate and yet she still chose to go through with it which means she has her own reasons too. No one invests their own money into a business hoping that it fails. If this goes south, it's her business that's going south. Just go eat somewhere else if it bothers you ㅋ
9. [+168, -19] It's because women don't care about eating their food and getting up, they sit there debating which Instagram picture to post and request this and that... It's best not to accept women.
