They could've threatened to not attend the show if they weren't given the ending but they knew that they could prove they're the best just by putting on their performance. It actually makes SM look pathetic to be so obsessive over the ending without having achieved anything.

I thought it was great that they got a chance to catch their breaths before they went up to conclude the show instead of sweating and being out of breath right after. I barely saw any Armies who were against the ending so I'm not sure where this 'explosion' is coming from.
