Even if you did pick a red ticket, you can pass it on to someone else. Thailand has great benefits for soldiers and are paid better than most odd jobs around the country so some even pay for red tickets so they can serve instead.

The rates are usually 70% black balls, 30% red balls but it varies by district since a lot of the poorer areas have a lot more serving for the income. There are some towns where everyone serves too.
