SM will wait 3-4 years after debut to start giving their groups weird songs and start lengthening their hiatus so that the fans transition over to their new rookie groups. That way they're not impacted when their original groups retire. YG, however, has been hanging on to Big Bang and seems to have no intention of passing their fans on to their new rookies. Sure you can argue that the groups have different charms or whatever but idols are 80% about marketing. YG is screwed once Big Bang leaves.
