The last time Korean artists performed at the NHK event was in 2011 with TVXQ, SNSD, and KARA.

1. [+171, -14] BoA is not a part of Hallyu. She's a J-Pop singer who worked her way up from the bottom. Of course she's also a K-Pop singer but she's a Japanese singer in her own right who promoted without the need of an interpreter.

2. [+141, -11] No one in Japan considers BoA a part of Hallyu. She's a J-Pop artist who worked from the bottom up and created the foundation for what is Hallyu today.

3. [+135, -12] BoA is really so amazing;; it's been years and yet she still maintains her position at the top

4. [+117, -16] So in conclusion, BoA is jjang!

5. [+74, -13] BoA-ya, we miss you

6. [+32, -13] BoA's class proven

7. [+20, -3] Why should Korean artists care about attending this anyway?

8. [+24, -10] Glad that BoA is attending this though. Korean singers are still promoting actively in Japan and I'd still like to see a few them of at their year-end ceremonies. The Japanese market is important after all.

9. [+11, -1] K has been promoting in Japan for a long time and married a famous Japanese celebrity as well so he's pretty much considered a local star there and gets invited to events like these without much restriction. BoA worked her way up from the bottom to get recognized for the status she is today and paved a path for her juniors but because of the anti-Hallyu wave there, she was restricted from major Japanese broadcasts and promotions. Still, she has an amazing career history in Japan and 'Meri Kuri' is still a song that's loved 10 years into its release, which is how she was invited to this event. It's a meaningful gesture that shows her class and status there.

10. [+13, -6] Japan has the second largest music market after America. Their market is 15 times bigger than Korea's, which is why idols keep heading there. What they sell in Japan is more than what they sell in China and SEA combined.
