[Nate Poll] 'Assisted suicide', agree or disagree?

Nate Poll: What is your opinion on people visiting Switzerland for 'assisted suicide'?

1. I agree, "The decision to voluntarily die should be a right" - 89% 11,894 votes

2. I disagree, "People should find worth in living longer" - 10% 1,305 votes

3. Other

Vote talks about how 1,749 people have visited Switzerland where assisted suicide is legal to voluntarily end their lives for various reasons like already suffering from life threatening diseases. The world is in debate over whether it should be allowed or not.

1. [+448, -16] Assisted suicide should be something the patient himself decides. Life is precious but if you're living life in pain that doesn't make life worth living anymore, any treatment that extends your life is meaningless. Patients who can't be medically treated to recover to a normal state of life should be given the right to die as they wish.

2. [+345, -15] I think terminal patients or patients in a lot of pain should have the right for assisted suicide. Every single day is one of constant pain...!

3. [+302, -11] As someone who suffers from constant pain and has to take all sorts of numbing drugs to survive, I, too, wish to end my life without pain and just leave comfortably once I'm a bit older but this damn country won't allow it. Every year, I see more and more patients suffering from pain syndromes commit suicide but I don't want to leave the world that way, I just want to leave comfortably ㅠㅠ

4. [+18, -0] Yeah, I don't see the point in treating terminally ill patients just for the sake of keeping them alive and keeping their pain at bay. Sometimes dying comfortably is the best. Why leave the patient to the point where they're bleeding and screaming in pain on their death bed?

5. [+18, -2] With stuff like assisted suicide, it sounds like a way to provide patients with more decisions now... but imagine when it becomes normalized and families are suddenly hit with huge treatment bills so the patient ends up having to choose assisted suicide just to spare their family of the bills.. wouldn't that be so sad?

6. [+15, -0] I don't think some people understand what assisted suicide means. It's not something granted to people just wanting to end their lives because of depression or avoiding old age... it's for terminally ill people or people who can't recover to a stable state of life through any medical procedure and have to live their lives in pain through the help of painkillers. They're basically living in pain, waiting for the day they finally die. Some people choose assisted suicide because they want to die with dignity. It's always the ones who don't understand the pain of others who think they can have an opinion on the subject. How can you look at someone you love in the eye as they writhe in pain and say, "You should live for as long as you can~" that's so fake. Why is it so wrong for patients to want to leave a positive image of themselves before they leave? To want to leave the world in a proper state of mind?
