Studies found that underweight women who considered themselves of average weight thought of suicide 2.25 times more than the average woman who correctly perceived her weight.
On the contrary, studies found no correlation between a man's weight and the rate at which they considered suicide.
Overall, 20.3% of the women surveyed had considered suicide, while 11% for men.
Researchers said, "This study shows that women on average have an extremely warped view of their physical body and the negative effect it can have on their mental state."

1. [+1,103, -109] Men tend to overvalue themselves while women tend to undervalue themselves.
2. [+1,019, -29] TV has ruined society... women have a misconception that the skeletons they see on TV are normal.
3. [+535, -25] So in the end, people should stop butting their business into other people. It's none of your business what rank a student is, where she goes to college, when he'll find a job, how much she makes a year, what car he drives, when she's getting married... You all hate these questions, right? It's the same with pretending to worry about overweight people. You hate people judging your life so stop judging someone else's physique. If anyone, it should be their family members worrying for them so butt out.
4. [+36, -4] I find that a lot of the kids nowadays don't know the difference between being unhealthily thin and healthily thin. Celebrities are a poor example because they have to look like a skeleton in real life in order to be seen as thin on camera.
5. [+30, -4] I think it's a difference in how men and women perceive weight... I'm a woman and I think I'm on the thinner side and when I go outside, all I see are thin women everywhere... on the contrary, I see a lot of overweight men even on my college campus alone ㅋㅋ
6. [+29, -5] Because Korea's crazy... any average BMI overseas would be considered grossly overweight in Korea ㅡㅡ
7. [+24, -4] I know two girls in junior high school who are both of average weight but I was shocked when I listened to them talking among themselves about how they get called pigs by their classmates and people tell them to diet. They don't consider themselves average but overweight.
8. [+17, -0] I really don't understand why Koreans are so obsessed with what others think of them, it really crosses a line
9. [+17, -0] Because girl groups and idols keep talking about their weight and bodies for needless reasons that anyone who is considered average suddenly gets perceived as overweight by comparison
