When his girlfriend demanded that they break up, the man, 22 years old, came up with the idea to gain her sympathy by staging a car accident where he jumped in front of a taxi in motion. He felt that he could get his girlfriend to feel bad for him if he was hospitalized and stay with him.

Once he realized he couldn't afford his hospital bills, he lied and said it was an accident and got insurance to cover for it but police investigations into his blackbox raised alarms (he randomly ran at the first taxi he saw and twisted his body to avoid direct impact).

He eventually confessed, "I thought that if I was hospitalzed, my girlfriend would change her mind and nurse me back to health."
